I found that the Ardenne had a decent amount of speed. I had to outrun bounty hunters, and found this breed did pretty good. (Quick note: I found the best way to outrun bounty hunters is to get off the main roads and ride across the grassy plains.) Even though my two favorite horses are the Dutch Warmblood you can get when going hunting with Hosea, and the Golden Missouri Foxtrotter, one thing I LOVE about the Ardenne, as opposed to the two previously mentioned breeds, is that if you're ambushed by a cougar or by an npc, it won't buck you off and leave you stranded. I would say the Ardenne is probably one of the best in the entire game. Not super fast, but if you want a purely reliable horse, the Ardenne is just that. I used the iron grey ardennes when I got the game, and it was my best friend. RIP Joey, you big badass! I have the strawberry roan for online, named it Opie. Such a great breed. Cheers for this!
Thank you for this guide. I really needed a tougher horse for this playthrough, since I was having such bad luck with my horses dying due to critical shots from O'Driscolls/bounty hunters, and general mishaps while traveling. The worst example being when my American Standardbred, who I'm not even sure I had given a name to, was killed during a raid on an O'Driscoll camp. I was out looking for the Jack Hall gang treasure at the time, far from any stable, so I had to pick up my saddle and walk eastward through northern Ambarino, trying to get to O'Creagh's Run for the last part of the treasure hunt, which was long, tedious, and nerve-wracking, since I could always hear a bear off in the distance. After watching, I went to the stables in Scarlett Meadows, sold a Nokota I think I stole from a bounty hunter, and bought a Bay Roan Ardennes I named Brutus. He's a MUCH better fit for my aggressive playstyle, and with him, I was able to go everywhere I needed to get the materials for the Legend of the East satchel. *Brutus. Is. A good horse.* *This. Is. @@kat_8984 Yeah they didn't give me any of the pre-order benefits even when I pre-ordered it. Of course I did try to get that fixed and even showed them proof that I should have gotten it they just set the ticket I put in as solved.
I'm glad I watched this video cuz this is the horse breed that suits me. It's big, intimidating, brave, high health, high stamina and most importantly has good handling unlike the shire which I tried for a while and I hated every second of it. I really like this breed and I wouldn't have known it was the best for me if I hadn't watched this video so thank you very much! I just feel like this is the best value for money horse in the game.
The Ardennes was my absolute favorite horse for an entire playthrough after using the Black Shire all through my first run. I loved that horse but didn't like the Heavy handling and it's lacking courage stat with wildlife, but I love the giant horses. The Ardennes was the next obvious choice for me. I went through hell and back with mine and even had to revive him at one point after getting too large of a bounty and having to face down 10+ lawmen. I was honestly very scared I was gonna lose him but I was able to kill them all and revive him in time, I immediately gave him the best stimulants I had and rode back to camp to brush and pat him. I'm now on my 5th or 6th playthrough and I found my forever favorite breed, the Dutch Warmblood. Being able to buy the better Chocolate Roan coat in Chapter 2 sealed the deal for me. Now my preferred stable setup is Ardennes, Dutch Warmblood, Missouri Foxtrotter, and I mix up what goes in the 4th slot. Mustangs, Turkomans, Hungarians are all ones I like to use often. I named my Dutch Warmblood Tobacco and he's NEVER bucked me off in my 50 or so hours using him. Bears and Gators startle him a bit but he never takes control from me, even without calming. TLDR: Giant War/Work horses are awesome. You don't need speed when you're riding a juggernaut.
I love this breed. Currently on my first playthrough and my favorite steed thus far is the Bay Roan. Mine is a mare, I dyed her mane and tail black to match her feathered legs. Her name is Penny Dreadful!
The first time I rode from Wapiti Reservation all the way east to Roanoake on the most northern road was with my Ardennes. A dozen wolves and a Grizzly later, she was still super chill thru all the attacks and then got to haul all those pelts. They are so wonderful under pressure, and great for the mountains when speed can be unsafe on the ridges, and there's lots of predators.
I have one of these fine horses in real life, he looks more like a mealy dapple bay, I've hade him since 2011 and his name is marston, truly amazing creatures
This is a great videos, almost all horses breed you have been reviewed. Please could you make the video about the Missouri Fox Trotter horse breed because that in my opinion is the best horse in the game and also about the Thoroughbred horse breed
you are very knowledgable and informative. You have a nice voice too. I like your accent. I guess you are Australian. I am from New Zealand. If you are a new zealander i apologise ;)
I had a iron grey roan I called her Rat Sven (don’t ask why) she was such a good girl, the best. The very first mission I did in chapter 2 was with Hosea hunting that bear so I had her pretty much the entire game up until chapter 6 when your horse has to die. She had only ever bucked me off once and when I realised you could calm the horse while riding it, she never lost her cool. She was perfect for Arthur, I miss her.
This one is an absolute tank. Somehow I have a tendency to find bears, wolves and snakes on my travels, and while my arabian is fast, it goes into panic attack every time it even sees a dead snake. And the swamps are pure hell with arabians, gators everywhere means that you’ll be running after your horse more times than actually riding on it. Ardennes just don’t give a s#it about predators, which is for me, the best thing about them. Anyway, nice review
I had a Gray Ardennes named Ryle, she was the best horse! She was the bravest horse I ever seen! Ryle was loyal and never bucked me... When she got killed it hurted so much... I miss my Ryle... Even if a get a new gray ardennes, it will not be like Ryle! She was perfect...
My pink Ardennes fell off a bridge because it was hit by a train, and it was still alive.... you have a very nice narrator's voice btw, with a very familar accent, good stuff.
Awesome videos thank you, I'm trying to buy/break/steal every horse right now so this series is perfect and I keep referring to it. The Iron Grey Roan was special/ultimate edition content in the U.K. I've got the Ardennes and the thoroughbred but not the treasure map that came with the preorder edition
When I first came across an Ardennes horse in the game, I was a bit shocked because their neighing sounds so different from the other horses, which I totally didn't expect :D
Have it and love it, call it - Braveheart - with the magical Nagodoches saddle this Horse becomes a Super-Horse, even speed becomes enough for overall play, except top races... Watching your videos is making me furious cause I can only have 5 horses online and you made me wish for some 10 breeds, I just cant go over the Arabians poney size, cheers and many thanks
For anyone who want the strawberry one. Try roam around east of strawberry town. I found one just chilling at the side of the street. I am at chapter 4 when I found her.
Saw this horse from Bill and suddenly love it the hair on its foot muscular limbs and huge body thought it was a shire given toyou at early game but shire lacks hair on its foot only to find out its ardennes also wishing theres brown and black coats available.
Hi. I've been watching your videos to know which horse to replace my white arabian; I mainly want a horse who isn't afraid of predators, so which would recommend more, Ardennes or Hungarian halfbread as you stated it was a fearless breed? Thx.

Your videos are so well produced!
I just found your channel and think your RDR2 horse reviews are top notch ! Thanks .
I love these videos ! . I'd enjoy seeing other rdr2 videos from you about weapons and saddles.
The Guy what chanel
I love this breed. Currently on my first playthrough and my favorite steed thus far is the Bay Roan. Mine is a mare, I dyed her mane and tail black to match her feathered legs. Her name is Penny Dreadful!
Nice name,love the reference!
There is an old legend in the west about a man with a bear head and an Ardennes iron horse... ^^
Amazing video as always.
Wow you know your horses. Bought the Kladruber for my Trader on your recommendation. Good purchase!
Mine don't seem to like me very much it used to be fearless but now it kicks me of at the meer sight of a single wolf
Are you planning on doing the thoroughbred overview video soon?
The first time I rode from Wapiti Reservation all the way east to Roanoake on the most northern road was with my Ardennes. A dozen wolves and a Grizzly later, she was still super chill thru all the attacks and then got to haul all those pelts. They are so wonderful under pressure, and great for the mountains when speed can be unsafe on the ridges, and there's lots of predators.
Love your voice and enjoyed the vid, soothing. On my way to Van horn now to buy the strawberry coat
I love the thicc horses in the game. I think Arthur looks best riding around on a chunky horse
Amazing! Can you do the thoroughbred next?
rdr2 is the reason why the ardenner has become my favorite breed of horse I have not known him before ... thank you rdr2
Do more I love these even as a old player 😁😁😁
Your voice made me sub. The content grabs my attention
I love these reviews, keep it up!
I have one of these fine horses in real life, he looks more like a mealy dapple bay, I've hade him since 2011 and his name is marston, truly amazing creatures
Got this horse in the beginning when you could trade in that black Shire. Absolutely my favorite horse.
in my country we used Ardennes back in the day to move lumber and help plow our fields as they have great pull strength.
Ok this has convinced me to get one in rdr2
What will you review next once you’ve finished all the horse breeds?
I like how you make every horse look good
This is a great videos, almost all horses breed you have been reviewed.
You made me truly interested in a bread I never considered before!

The iron grey is a boy horse no matter what 🤦♂️🤦♂️
@@alamo0243 no it isn't. Quit spouting bullshit.
Thanks! That was decent. 🕺
Greetings from Germany
Ja so sind wir Deutschen 😉👌
My pink Ardennes fell off a bridge because it was hit by a train, and it was still alive.... you have a very nice narrator's voice btw, with a very familar accent, good stuff.
I love the iron grey Ardennes
Awesome videos thank you, I'm trying to buy/break/steal every horse right now so this series is perfect and I keep referring to it. The Iron Grey Roan was special/ultimate edition content in the U.K. I've got the Ardennes and the thoroughbred but not the treasure map that came with the preorder edition
When I first came across an Ardennes horse in the game, I was a bit shocked because their neighing sounds so different from the other horses, which I totally didn't expect :D
These videos make it harder for me to choose any thing😂
Can you do weapons profile? This horse videos are very helpful 😊❤🐎
I love that horse. I ran over other riders with that lol
Been lookin forward to this one for a minute
I sold my Missouri Fox Trotter as the Ardennes has become one of my favorite horses. 🐎
Really REALLY love the Straberry Roan Ardennes. It really suits JM. Love me some red horses.
that’s one of the most stunning horses in the game IMO. the coat and size is great
Have it and love it, call it - Braveheart - with the magical Nagodoches saddle this Horse becomes a Super-Horse, even speed becomes enough for overall play, except top races...
Bloody love this horse brilliant video 👍
Why does strawberry ardennes shows in the stable with the star sign like gang members' horses in the epilogue?
Great video!
horses forever, because there a rarer coat. sorry you had to wait a year for this answer XD im still playin story mode in good ol 2020 lol
i wish i could have the iron grey ardennes ;n; i didnt think id like the game as much as id did and didnt preorder, curse past me lol
I feel the same. Rockstar sucks we the their downloadable content
I have never been bucked off by my Ardennes at any point in the game
Same even when I was hauling a bear pelt and being chased by 6 wolves at its Hooves it was completely calm
Yeah, my online experience sadly is nothing but buck off... I'll have to see in story how it does.
Very helpful and informative. Thank you
Did you know that one of the Van Der Linde gang members have a Ardennes has one except it's brown?
Yep! That's Brown Jack, Bill Williamson's horse
It has the worst stats than all Ardennes but its still unique.
@@Lucas02000 as well for the stats of Neil II and Neil IV (Uncle's horses)
Saw this horse from Bill and suddenly love it the hair on its foot muscular limbs and huge body thought it was a shire given toyou at early game but shire lacks hair on its foot only to find out its ardennes also wishing theres brown and black coats available.
The Iron Grey one 🥰🥰🥰😍😍
How about a weapon series for RDR 2, similar to your horse series.
You have such a beautiful voice...
Hi. I've been watching your videos to know which horse to replace my white arabian; I mainly want a horse who isn't afraid of predators, so which would recommend more, Ardennes or Hungarian halfbread as you stated it was a fearless breed? Thx.
I just adore Bills Horse Brown Jack. Such a Cutie
