Because it's a wild feral horse & can't be purchased in stables, it always gets admiration from NPCs. My Tiger Striped Bay frequently gets admired.
I have both the wild pay and the grullo sun and they both get compliments constantly

The Mustangs are my favourite breed in the game. They look so good, and are the most reliable. Strength and toughness is more important to me than speed!
Definitely one of my favorites. I kinda favor the shire though. I like ramming bounty hunters and other predators to death. It's pretty satisfying to completely run through a bounty hunter trying to catch you killing him and his horse sometimes lmao.
Absolutely agree. Between my Fox Trotter and Wild Bay Mustang, I favor my Mustang every time.
I love them as a secondary horse! They are pretty good horses. I prefer larger breeds for main horses though
HorseYast yes i agree....... but..... a mustang is not a breed.. it’s a referral and comes from the spanish word mesteño or monstenco meaning wild or stray. All the horses that are “mustangs” are feral horses brought over by the Spanish hundreds of years ago. Spanish horses or their descendants but over the years they became a mix of numerous breeds. So there isn’t a “defined breed” that can be pinpointed

I think the Missouri Foxtrot is the best all around. It rarely ever bucks you off. It's the fastest in the game. It has a lot of health and stamina. And it looks pretty good.

@No Sellout 0.00 I noticed that the speed stat makes a microscopic difference, and with bonding level 4 you get infinite stamina, so the only traits that matter are health and loyalty. The Ardennes has max in both of those.
@No Sellout 0.00 The best saddle is the Beaver Roper saddle because it affects health Regen which is the most important trait. The health core goes down faster than the stamina core, and horse items restore both, which means you want slower health core depletion than stamina.
I own a Mustang in real life he used to be a wild horse. He is one heck of a horse. He is fast. They need to upgrade those stats a lot more.
And fix the appearance. They look like cobs

Anyway at level 4 I suppose neither breed suffers too much. I lucked out catching a Grullo early on in story mode and to date it is still an all time favourite. At level 3 I beat both the count and the Lemoyne rider without tonics on the Grullo and other than shaving some corners I was on the path. I still consider the Mustang end game quality.
In single player there is no situation aside from scripted ones the Mustang could not get me our of oh the trouble we stirred and the races won. Tough and brave against all predetors plus an early warning system. My Mustang always alerted me to cougars laying in wait or other near by predetors without getting out of hand and willing to stare them down while I lined my shot. Yes they have a point of no return but more than enough fuse to get things done.
In on line my Grullo still has managed the podium against the best of the best Arabians role horses thoughbreds MFT ect and is excellent for missions and free roam.
One other thing I don't get: how could they have missed the American Quarter Horse????
Is the size in game accurate or are they off because I feel like some horses are way to small

I've also realised that when your in the Mustang and going through the towns the townsfolk compliment your horse a lot

Really enjoying your RDR2 horse videos, they go way beyond the usual stat narration you tend to find on RUclips. I particularly appreciate the physical descriptions, the size and handling verbal and visual comparisons between breeds, and how the different breeds behave in stressful surroundings involving gunfire and predators. I know this is hard work but I hope you keep it up and eventually cover all breeds. It would also be great if you could perhaps start mentioning your personal preferences when it comes not only to breeds, but also specific coats or horses within breeds. Subscribed anyway, great content!
Thanks a bunch Dan, glad you're loving the series so far :D It's been super fun so far so I'll definitely be pushing out a video for every breed available at least. As for personal preferences, those will probably be separate videos as I wanted to give a neutral approach to each breed so that I do my best to not simply bash a breed cause it's "bad". I'm more of a coat person rather than a stat person anyway x)

I've had the grey Mustang since early chapter 2 after I took it from a bounty hunter, and haven't changed him since. They are reliable and calm, had a pack of wolves right at his hooves and a cougar stalking close and he didn't buck me off. Plus I love the little stripe they have on their back.
lol i was just about to say that's the one thing i don't like about them. I just make sure to always have one pelt on the back to cover it up lol.
My favorite horse in the game. The Tiger Striped Bay with the Rattlesnake Vaquero Saddle. It's the only horse I use in story and online. Absolutely phenomenal mount.

I love my Grullo Dun, he was the first horse I'd ever tamed and I spent hours looking for him. I also get a lot of compliments from NPCs when I'm riding him. His name is Gimme S'more and he's the best.
The great thing about Mustangs is the small stocky frame. In war horse situations you literally zoom and buzz around cabins or encampments. Many warhorses are larger more lumbering targets.
The mustang is 10 times better than the andalusian horse in every way imo
This is series is REALLY helping me choose my next horse! I mean I'm one to be loyal to a day one horses, but I like my horse being able to do more than just Gettin me to towns and carrying hunted game for me or the camp.

Might just be my favorite breed in the game. Tough, lean but muscular, and very very brave. I dunno, there's just something special about having one. Catching 'em in the wild and becoming best friends. I'm on my second playthrough right now and my Wild Bay hardly reacts to anything. If you're having trouble finding them in The Heartlands, I'd suggest checking out the Big Valley area around the Trapper and that big open field with the little creek. I've seen a few Mustangs up there so I think they share spawns with the Standardbreds and Morgans up there.

My mustang is the wild bay and I found her at a camp with some random NPC.
Went looking for a mustang in the heartlands and instead found bounty hunters. They happened to have a mustang. Works for me.

For anyone wanting to find one as early as possible, once you unlock the stable, head just north of where the L in Heartlands is on the map. That’s the top of a small hill, where the Mustang spawns. Be there at around noon in game time and there should be a Mustang waiting for you. I got both common coats back to back. The only thing I wish is that the Mustangs were a medium sized horse and not small, but I still love mine.

I’ve had a bounty hunter spawn with a wild bay at mcfarland’s ranch, at the same time as a grunillo dun and me riding the tiger striped bay, I called her Bengal 🐅💕

A Grullo Dun spawns early game in story mode guaranteed every time to the south west of lake Qwanjila. Up in a little nook area. I've ran 3 different playthroughs and picked her up right at the start of chapter 2 each time.
I love my mustangs! My first grullo dun got ran over by a train when Arthur got glitched into it while he was skinning an animal. My loyal boah tried to catch up with him but died being ran over. Arthur cried a bit when he picked up his saddle 😔
Really wish there were a few more wild horses that were occasionally competitive with the stats you get when you buy one. There should be more than just wild Arabians with strong stats. An occasional Mustang with 4 and 4 would be great!! Or even a random Fox Trotter!! That would be even better! They really should offer random horses from time to time. A wild Hungarian with extra speed or a fox trotter with a random coat. That would have made the horse's so much more personal!
Tiger striped bay is a machine. My favourite horse and I named him “Arthur” in respect to our dear friend and brother Arthur Morgan.

@@yourboydoublepinkeye I've tried, once you try and go past great plains an invisible sniper will automatically take you out. Rockstar also patched up all the glitches you can use to get there early

I feel like I was pretty lucky when I came across both the wild bay and grullo dun in the wild, I was able to tame both of them and take them back to emerald ranch. I named them after the twin brothers from Texas chainsaw massacre (Chop Top and Nubbins) since I also had a Ardennes I named Bubba.

@@m.m.6615 Mustangs are far less fussy than Turkomans, when accelerating and around predators. I love my Turkoman but he is tempermental and if-y around predators and thrashes his head around going into full gallop, Mustangs are more level-headed and calmer

Aw I miss my baby Vincent Adder. He was Aurthur’s Grullo Dun I had since chapter 2. He died because I’m in the epilogue now. Mustangs are good horses, mine was very brave and even in the middle of a gun fight he’d come to me when I whistled. I recommend them, and though they are not the fastest horses they get you where you need to be.
You can get another one from del lobos and the already tamed so you just gotta follow it on John's horse, jump to horse or lasso it and hop on then you got yourself a mustang
I know I'm hella late to the party, but these videos have been super dope. You did a really good job with all of these. Wrangling wild horses, getting them bonded, and selling them while keeping my favorites is one of my favorite things to do to make money on the side and take a break from the game, and you've done a great job summarizing the breeds. Good job, my dude. Rockstar did an amazing job making all of these horses feel and look unique.

Weird the “wild” Mustangs only have 3 coats, and they are brown and grey. Seriously Mustangs have painted coats, all black coats! They could have done better with their coats I think

I had the Grullo Dun Mustang for Arthur for the majority of his story. Love that horse. Great for hunting and shootouts. Now in honor of Arthur, I have John riding the Tiger Striped Bay Mustang. Fantastic breed.

Me too 😂 I delete my game, go offline and play it extra without updates, so Arthur can own the tiger striped with the Saint Denis glitch. Named him John. Later John becomes the same horse, and it's called Arthur 🥰
*spoilers* I got my Mustang on the mission where you rescue Sean. I hung around the area looting afterwards and more bounty hunters showed up. One of them happened to be riding him

This is my absolute favorite Horse in the game, especially the Tiger Striped Bay! :D
What I love about it is the unique colors & patterns, especially in the Uncommon coat, and also the fact that it will not even think about bucking me off almost all the time when its scared (Unless its a Cougar). The reason why I prefer Mustangs over the better ones like Arabians is that I prefer Work & War horses. In other words, a Horse that can run for a really long time, but can also take gunshots like its nothing. So I believe the Mustang is the perfect Horse for me that can do these jobs. However, what bothers me a little bit about them, is the fact that they don't have as much stamina as an uncommon work horse and not as much health as an uncommon war horse. I honestly believe Mustangs deserve better stats than that apart from acceleration. Also, unlike their War side, they are NOT that slow either, so I think the speed should be increased a tad bit. Apart from the stats, the Mustang is an absolutely amazing Horse and I recommend it to those who want a Horse that can run for a very long time, and can take gunshots like a champion. My absolute favorite mount. Although not incredibly fast, he has quite the stamina and today my wild caught mare stared down 4 wolves and held herself together during a bounty hunter ambush and a robbery.
The speed stat is almost inconsequential, it makes such a small difference. Health and stamina are far more tangible, not to mention temperament.

She is brave, and gallant.
She has a Tiger Striped Bay
She is fast and strong.
But most importantly,

These horses have always been a very reliable breed. I give them all five stars.

Personally I like both the Tiger striped and Grullo Dun best, the Wild Bay has the same coat as a mule! It’s like a beefy mule basically lol 😂
Anyone else feel like they are alot faster than their stats say and their stamina drains much slower than other horses?
I have a wild bay that my boyfriend spent forever finding me. I swear I can full gallop across the entire map and never have to worry about stamina. I can barely ride the other breeds at this point

Nice video! I've noticed that the wild bay mustangs tend to spawn with the Del Lobo gang in end game territory, so that is one way of nabbing one.
It angers me that rockstar got the appearance of the mustang so wrong, so enjoy my little rant.
First off mustangs don’t have feathered legs, just google mustang and take a look, I don’t know if Rockstar doesn’t know what mustangs look like but they got the design all messed up, second they’re too short, I used to own a mustang and he was a little bigger than a Quarter Horse, the mustangs in game are only slightly bigger than the Morgan, I hope that they get a remodel but I doubt it, aside from that I want them to come out with more coats, like a Kiger Mustang (spirits coat) and maybe a black and white pinto.
Good god rockstar actually listened to my rant, rockstar gods, if you are reading this add the new mustang coats to story mode, I doubt it tho.
I just got me a female Grullo in Online today, named her Wispmother and rode her up to the snowy place for a collector thing, and I kid you not, she does the cute happy little trot in the deep snow and swished her tail like she was wagging it. I have a skinny Skyrim horse xD
One of my all time favorite horses, in real life, was a little mustang mare captured from Utah and adopted out to someone in Montana who couldn’t handle an untamed horse and surrendered it before my dad took her in. She was a short, kinda mangy looking thing with a dark bay coat and a bold white face. And damn was she hardy! Once gentled and broke that little mare was the star of the ranch. We got her all cleaned up nice and shiny and she was so well put together, this horse could literally climb rocky sides of mountains with no hesitation or slip ups. And when you opened her up she ran like hell. I was so excited to see RDR2 had mustangs! Truly an icon of the American West and the spirit of America. If you’re an experienced horse person, I suggest adopting a mustang. Their loyalty and resilience will surely have you remembering them as one of your best horses.
That's amazing! I just had to agree 100% with you on this comment! Understanding mustangs and what phenomenal creatures they are, I had to immediately buy one in RDR the moment I could. I've enjoyed a load of various breeds in the game, but my original mustang is still my #1 go-to horse for all my RDR needs.

You can get Tiger Striped Mustang early in chapter 2 as Arthur if you have mod to disable the sniper and also to lose the law pursuit in NA

I’m glad that there is appreciation for the wild bay coat. It doesn’t seem to get much praise as everyone always wants the tiger one instead. The wild bay coat is very underrated. I think it’s a beautiful colour, and looks truly like a wild mustang

This horse is an underrated beast! Just purchased the buckskin Mustang and even at level 1 it’s able to handle gunfights perfectly and hunting. Hasn’t whined once.
I have the mustang in red dead online and for some reason he always needs to be revived, I’m only level two bond though. Although it’s not relevant my thoroughbred let a cougar run under him without freaking out.

Right now my arthur horse is the wild bay mustang.
Let me tell you, NPC camps were my saving grace. I had just lost my gruello dun that took me three real days to find, and had to go to Saint Denise to get a stabled horse. I’m riding out of the city and what do I see, a gruello dun standing right next to an NPCs campfire. I wasted no time running up and jumping on that horse. I couldn’t believe my luck.
I love Mustangs in this game because they're a big soup pot. Bit of everything. Decent stats across the board. Pretty coats and great temperaments. Also I'm lowkey nostalgic for Spirit lol.
Other Places you can get Mustangs
-A cowboy will be walking on a path with a horse carrying supplies. Sometimes it’s a Apalusa other times it one of the two Mustangs
-Big Valley is another location for them.

You can also find a few mustangs in little creek river, east of hanging dog ranch. There is also eagles, bucks, deers, and both kinds of bear. Little creek river is home to exceptional wild horses.
My all time fav horses in the game are the fox trotters! Look wise the draft horses!

I’ve noticed that the Wild Bay Mustang will spawn if you have a height bounty in Valentine, the officers will chase you on them. I haven’t seen any with bounty hunters yet so they do only have the Grullo Dun variant.
They don't have licensed cars in GTA, but they have licensed horses in Read Dead.
No company claims ownership of a specific breed of horse. Meanwhile with cars you have to obtain the rights from a specific manufacturer.
Got a mustang named Cleo. Absolutely love her she’s not scared of anything and will look a bear in the face. She doesn’t like to jump fences as we fall over fences about 8 times a day lol. But she jumps a lot of unnecessary stuff. But I love here she does good for Bounty’s but when I really need her to get away she does just trot to me like she doesn’t care. She reminds me of the horse I own in real life. But great video
