I had this horse pretty much through the whole game. We had a rocky relationship. As he'd often leave me for the wolves and I'd accidentally break his legs down a cliff. But his speed and blue roan colourings and my carrots kept our relationship going.

A blue roan was the horse that carried my Arthur to safety from the O'Driscoll hostage camp the very first time I played the story-mode. Had a soft spot for them since. Finally picked one up in Online (reverse dapple) and I'm further convinced that horses that can only be bought with gold have an added bravery buff. Yes I got the blue roan nokota female in the plains near Cumberland with a wild herd of Appaloosas, rare horses spawn there so I suggest looking around this area.
Anyone who wants a Nokota very early, don't worry, you can get one right as soon as you start chapter 2. Right near Horseshoe Overlook, directly right of Bards Crossing you will find a stranger. He wants to sell you a treasure map, he has a pack horse and it is a Blue Roan Nokota. As the horse is skittish, try not to blow his brains out, it will run away. But, also be warned, he will ride away as soon as the encounter is done with. So, you can have one of the best race horses from the start of the game.
I'm starting to think the "bravery" stats are completely RNG across all breeds. I've been experimenting and I got a lvl 1 bonded reverse dapple nokota that I was able to run around a cougar for like 10 passes without phasing him. At that point, I ran away because I think I struck gold with this nokota's temperament and want to experiment more with him at lvl 4 bonding.
I found my Nokota in the beginning of Ch.3 when I got ambushed by Lemoyne Raiders. One of the Raiders had a white Nakota and after killing him I took her and she has been my only horse since then. Before that I had the black Shire that Hosea gives you, but as much as I wanted to keep him, I really did have to sell him because he rode like a damn tank and was extremely difficult to maneuver. He also wasn't all that brave as he would buck me off near wolves. But my beauty, Koda, has seen me through some extremely tough times, which I see now, is kind of rare. All the horses I've had (I've already played through once before) have bucked me near gators and even snakes, but my Koda never does. She's fast and brave and beautiful. I think I really lucked out with my specific Nokota!
I found the white Nokota with arrows stuck in its side and bleeding, pulling a wagon that had a dead rider full of arrows. I took the horse, gave it some horse medicine (not sure if that had any effect) and put it in the stable. When I got it out again, it had healed from its wounds and the arrows were gone. It was a pretty immersive way to get a new horse!
For my first play through, I got ambushed by Lemoyne raiders and managed to snag a Nokota. I used her through the rest of the game and I cried like a baby when she died. She was a damn good horse that never bucked me. I've used different horses in both the epilogue and in my newer play through, but that Nokota was still by far my favorite horse. Nokotas are seriously underrated in this game.
I just commented sharing almost the same situation! Except this happened in my second play through. My Nakota is just the same as yours and I've had a bunch of different horses because of my last play through.
the nakota also seems to have the best conformation/animations to me. Some of the other horses look really stiff/unrealistic especially in a slow canter but not this one
I had the Mangy Nakota. I got it from the Murphy brothers when I was setting up camp in Annisburg. I just find this horse really adorable. I named her Ragdoll
In my current playthrough, I’ve had a beautiful Blue Roan Nokota mare since chapter 2 (I’m in chapter 4 now, and will have her all the way to the end). Her name is ‘Viola Lee’ after the great ‘Viola Lee Blues’, a song which the Grateful Dead covered on their debut album in 1967. Even in heavy combat, and when facing bears and other predators, she hasn’t bucked me once. Magnificent horse.
I caught a nokota in Chapter 4 after an exhaustive search through Big Valley. Rode above the treeline for days, got mauled by a grizzly when I dismounted to catch one, and rode a second one off a cliff when bounty hunters showed up. Finally managed to catch a blue roan on the mouth of the trail at the end of the valley, then wolves and bounty hunters forced me to exit north east into the Grizzlies in a huge loop downwards back to Lemoyne. It was arduous, something was out to test me for sure.
I got mine for free using an exploit at the Saint Denis Theodore Eckhart stable. I used a wagon and entered the stable, and I shot at the ceiling which gave me a wanted level and allowed me to walk in the stable without any navigation screen. I patted and bonded with the horse. Went back to Shady Belle, boom there it was. I'm maining this one over my Silver Dapple Pinto Missouri Fox Trotter for now.
Thank you for alerting me to this breed! I have the reverse dapple roan in the online part of the game! I love my Hati, he's one of my favorite horses. And remarkably calm around gunfire o.o
I have a female Reverse Dapple Roan in story mode (as John), named her Loulu, she is surprisingly brave around wolves, haven't tested her around gunfire yet but she is such a sweet girl but she doesn't like to stand in water if I get off her to do something though, even if I tell her to stay lol. She just trots to nearest shore and have to call her back, even level 4 bonding she does this and none of my other horses do
I was actually able to find a wild white roan Nokota outside Hanging Dog Ranch in Chapter 2. I soon learned that that area can spawn ANY of the wild horse breeds from Chapter 2 onwards, but Nokota is a really rare spawn and you'd have to camp out a few times before you find one. Those herds usually have American Standardbred horses, but I was able to find a Nokota and a Hungarian Halfbred there.
I feel like a Nokota mixed with a Mustang would be one of, if not the best horse. High speed, health, stamina, accel, and bravery. Also, you can kill the man who gives you the Jack Hall Gang Map and take his Blue Roan Nokota if you so wish.
The blue roan is just gorgeous And I have also noticed the nokota is braver than his racing cousins He is braver than the thoroughbred and american standardbred Very good horse indeed
My ( Arthur’s )stable: Khione, Female Silver Dapple Pinto Missouri Fox Trotter Zeus, Male Warped Brindle Arabian Ares, Male Dark Bay Andalusian Apollo, Male Mangy Blue Roan Nokota
Currently rolling with nokota in late game, I got the reverse dapple and named her Eclipse. She's pretty zippy and not bad with running straight through Saint Dennis in a shootout. With special medicine
I just rescued the Sweet White Roan Nokota from that Racer. Her name is now Rainey. An let me tell you this horse is a lot braver. Literally two wolves started attacking and as I was shooting at them Rainey was keeping it together. An she was only at level 1. She even helped me run them down. I was surprised by the horse today.
In the epilogue, you can find a white roan Nakota on the road between Blackwater and Tall Trees leading a wagon that was attacked by the SB gang (using the initials to prevent spoilers). S/he’ll be covered in arrows but can recover in your stable.
Took my roan nokota off a raider as my secondary horse and although only level one bonded she was SO fast and REALLY loyal, always behind me ready ☺️ She vanished from camp after a mission, still miss her! x
I ride the Mangy Blue Roan Nokota rn and I do love it but I absolutely love the Reverse Dapple Roan Nokota so until I get to chapter 4, I am gonna enjoy my scarred beauty, I stole it from the Murfree idiots because Nokotas are beautiful horses, fast, agile, loyal and probably expensive in general, I just felt like that Nokota deserved a much better life than the life it was living with them so I took it and I’d say I am giving it a much better life.
Bought one online and im glad i did my strong blue roan ( named blue) sticks with me everywhere i go and traviling across the map becomes easy for me Ps.i subbed
My *very first* horse (that the game didn't force on me) was a White Roan Nakota, caught'er in Strawberry. Named her Spirit. That ending crushed me man. I did not expect that to happen, I got legit teary eyed.
Got myself a blue roan Nokota in my most recent playthrough of the game. Named him Bluegrass and I adore him. An event that particularly endeared me to him was when I was racing the fellow with the white roan Nokota. Wasn't paying attention and I crashed head-on into a wagon. Thought for sure that he was going to be in pretty bad shape and I would have to use a horse reviver for sure. But as soon as he was done being trampled by both hooves and wheels, Bluegrass popped right back up like nothing happened. Still had a decent chunk of his health ring, so I hopped right back on him and continued the race. I was certain we would lose at that point, but we ended up winning! Though, it probably had something to do with the other guy falling off his horse after it got spooked... But either way, Mr. Bluegrass is one of my favorites now!
I'm so late, but! I had a random encounter for a race with the white variant one. The horse stayed spooked for a long time in the stable but she calmed down and makes a good horse.
On my 3rd playthrough I had a black boy Shire (the one Hosea gives) and a mangy girl Nokota. Loved them both so much for the reason that no one one would want them (Shire scared the hell out of people for its character and Nokota was so damaged by the Murphy brothers no one would want her). Called them Bjorn and Lagertha
I enjoy your horse reviews 😉 and routinely come back to re-watch I've done a run with the blue roan and white. Wish the reverse dapple could be obtained earlier I am plotting a run with that coat as my main one as soon as it's available. I like this little horse and many others besides ah how i wish there was infinite stable space.
Forgot, the guy with the “ Treasure Map” that you steal, it popped up in chapter 2, he/ and the Nokota the edge of the cliff, near the rivier before it opens to the ocean. Has the Blue looking nokota. I love it, but finding a Dutch warm blood, or a big American standard breeds, I usually stall the nokota. But, this time I didn’t. Just like any horse or any of the top 10, they all can be close to the perfect horse when fully leveled.
Thank You for the Information!! An Thank You Very Much for your Pleasantries And Supplementary Sounding Voice! Wondrously Crafted Endeavor! Now I’m very much looking forward to Chapter Four, yet everyone speaks on the Speed, as well as the stature, of this much sought after White Arabian. Myself an my Nakota Reverse Dapple Roan will just have to see about that one! Adios pretty.
Just got a white one I’m still on chapter 2 on this play through. Going for 100% completion so I found him by Roanoke ridge in search of a treasure. Good horse ❤️
I can't give up my Nokota. I value courage over speed, so I decided to make most of my stable war horses. She is the bravest racehorse i've found. I call her Shadow. After full bonding, she has no problem in a fight.👍
In online, I have a female white roan nakota named Joe. From kicking my friends to death to trampling wolves, she is the best horse I have ever encountered.
I got mine from the wild. But wolves were chasing me and we rolled off a cliff and died together, this horse was my pride and joy. I was crying when he died bc i coukdnt revive him
There is at least one other coat you failed to mention. It is the smoky black. It is dark grey in color with a hint of brown in the neck area and on the top of the back (spine). Saw one at a ranch outside st. Denis. It had the crappy stats like the blue and white versions. The reverse dappled is one of my three horses along with the Brindle Thoroughbred and SD pinto foxtrotter of course. Update: there is also a grey roan sabino which is a random lawman's horse in main game and becomes Charles' horse in epilogue. The smoky black is Karen's horse, but these two may randomly show up in game, however they are listed as gang member horses and gamers have had issues stableing and bonding with those two particular coats.
Another Blue Roan Nokota can be acquired in chapter 2 from the stranger who gives you Jack hall gang treasure map, Maximo Cristobal Valdespino. He said he was leaving for South America and will sell you the map for 10 bucks. I tried to rob it from him, he thought I was joking, when I demanded again I tackled him down and gutted em. This guy is a world renown globe trotter with expensive taste and I figured I would never see him again after this encounter so after he got through bragging about how wealthy he was, I sized him up. Expensive nice hat, I'm sure his pockets are full, and what master world traveler would not have ownership of the best horse in the game, at least as far as I understand horse gameplay at the time. TL;DR the first horse I ever cared to own was this blue roan race horse stolen from master globe trotter with expensive taste.
I got my blue roan Nakota when I went with Sean and Mary Beth on a stage coach robbery. After I killed the men amd completed the mission, I went into the woods where the Nakota ran and bonded with her. Never have I ever seen such a beautiful horse! I called her Norma Jean.
I get it from the Sttranger Mission where you get your first Treasure map with the Spanierd. Also bad in places like Sandy Knees where it will trample people on walkways if a wagon or something comes from behind.
I had a Nokota and loved her til I ran across the Gold Turkoman in Saint Denis in chapter 2. I believe it's a glitch that still works since I also found some of my gangs horses there at different times .
I found a blue roan Nokota last night that belonged to the guy who has the first High Stakes map just outside Strawberry. I ended up hogtying him to steal his map and his horse, which is now in my stable.
I know this is a bit late-but some new folks with the PC release or, people like myself, who like to "Arthur Morgan" as I tell the Wife [[where one simply plays as Arthur and does not go past say Chapter 3 or 4 where everything turns into Missions versus as much Free-Roam]] I also "John Marston" from Red Dead1. Have the Save files at a certain point and do not go past there. lol. Anyway, you can get a Nokota in Chpt2. The train Station where you go get the Reverend. North West-just acriss the tracks is a Stranger mission with a Spanish Explorer. He has a Nokota-do it at night as the horse has a lantern and makes it easier to find in the dark.
I beat a Nokota in a race, and after its owner slapped it around, I decided to tie him up and rob him. I took the horse as my own, and regretted the decision for the next hour or so - it was constantly rearing and panicking for no reason. I was considering just selling it and buying something else, but stuck with it, and it finally calmed down after bonding level 4, and I'm glad I didn't give up on it. Brave and fast, a better horse you'll never find.
I found a Reverse Dapple Roan Nokota in the wild and its stats are better than my Arabian and Turkoman's :) it doesnt seem to be very scared from anything either. Also, it's acceleration is at 8 after leveling the bonding, not 7 like the video said
in chapter 2 just after helping Hosea with the fence ( no downes mission or Micha), I've gotten every horse minus the nokota and the American paint at little creek river west of Wallace station and north of strawberry I've gotten the nokota at a beach southeast of Riggs station just along the beach next to blackwater i can't say for sure if you can get the American paint yet
There is a lady with a suit and top hat that challenges you to a race as well. Does anyone know what kind of horse she is riding? It looks cool but I haven’t seen her again.

My first play through was also a blue Nokota and he was the only horse that I rode with throughout the game.
I just tamed the blue roan in big valley by the creek. I'm so excited to play again. He seems pretty fast.
Damn, I didn't know about the second encounter with the old racing guy. I blew his head off the second he hit his horse.
Did you ever see him again or was he gone forever?
@@davidurdzik8523 he will be gone forever. but there is another race challenge near saint denis.
@@souptime7058 that's weird cuz I stole the striped thoroughbred (and killed the girl) and today I saw her again and raced her
@@davidurdzik8523 lmao i guess they do respawn, it has never happened to mee but good to know!
@@souptime7058 lol
new sub..... Your videos are top notch and I like the sound of your voice ...
These are the exact guides I was looking for, done even better than I thought I'd find. Solid.
You literally answered all my questions thank you!!
I’m in chapter 2 and the white and blue roan Nokota spawned in the Hanging Dog Ranch area. Don’t need to wait until chapter 3 like this video states.
The blue roan is just gorgeous
And I have also noticed the nokota is braver than his racing cousins
He is braver than the thoroughbred and american standardbred
Very good horse indeed
My ( Arthur’s )stable:
Khione, Female Silver Dapple Pinto Missouri Fox Trotter
Zeus, Male Warped Brindle Arabian
Ares, Male Dark Bay Andalusian
Apollo, Male Mangy Blue Roan Nokota
I named my Male warped brindle "Spiral". He died spiraling off a cliff so I guess he died doing what he loved
No offence but this is red dead not fucking stable simulator what outlaw owns 4
horses
I had a mustang named Ares he died when I was getting chased down by a lot of bounty hunters he got shot 12 times
I love the blue Nakota, one of my favourites
Currently rolling with nokota in late game, I got the reverse dapple and named her Eclipse. She's pretty zippy and not bad with running straight through Saint Dennis in a shootout. With special medicine
The Nokota was my horse in the second half of my first play through so this breed as a special place in my heart
Hey, just wanna say your videos are well-rounded and informative. Sweet job.
Took my roan nokota off a raider as my secondary horse and although only level one bonded she was SO fast and REALLY loyal, always behind me ready ☺️
She vanished from camp after a mission, still miss her! x
I really like these videos and the information you give thanks!
These videos are so helpful so.....
I subbed!
Bought one online and im glad i did my strong blue roan ( named blue) sticks with me everywhere i go and traviling across the map becomes easy for me
Ps.i subbed
Found the blue roan in the wild. Such a cool looking coat I had to get one in my stable.
I enjoy your horse reviews 😉 and routinely come back to re-watch
I've done a run with the blue roan and white.
The only blue horse in the entire story mode I love it
Thank You for the Information!!
After full bonding, she has no problem in a fight.👍
the Nakota with the pink is the coolest horse in the game
In online, I have a female white roan nakota named Joe. From kicking my friends to death to trampling wolves, she is the best horse I have ever encountered.
I got mine from the wild. But wolves were chasing me and we rolled off a cliff and died together, this horse was my pride and joy. I was crying when he died bc i coukdnt revive him
“Can mean life and death for this horse”
My horse cures : Am I a joke to you?
This horse is a favorite among the Lemoyne Raiders
Love your overviews x
I have a Nokota horse and I'm so glad to see everyone loves them🥰
I have one IRL tho.
The blue roan of the Nokota horse.🟦🟥🟩
It's my favourite horse and it's an absolute steal for $450 in St Denis
The white roan is so damm cute!
I got my blue roan Nakota when I went with Sean and Mary Beth on a stage coach robbery. After I killed the men amd completed the mission, I went into the woods where the Nakota ran and bonded with her. Never have I ever seen such a beautiful horse! I called her Norma Jean.
I stole my white Roan nokota mare named her Diamond from those low-life lemon raiders
phillyhippie same
Lemon raiders? Never heard of em. /s
My favorite Nag with the dapple coat
The blue nakota has been my favorite and only horse I use.
Love your voice and videos
On my first play through, I had a nakota named Tiberius. Had him since chapter 3, and to the very end. Rip buddy. ☹️
Also, it's acceleration is at 8 after leveling the bonding, not 7 like the video said
in chapter 2 just after helping Hosea with the fence ( no downes mission or Micha), I've gotten every horse minus the nokota and the American paint at little creek river west of Wallace station and north of strawberry
I've gotten the nokota at a beach southeast of Riggs station just along the beach next to blackwater
i can't say for sure if you can get the American paint yet
I named my reverse dapple roan oreo
My horse i used through the first play through. He was a reverse dapple black named Peter.
I had a Nokota once. She died when wolves were chasing me and I tried to jump over a stream. Landed headfirst in rocks. I CRI
I called my Nokota
Dokota it fit well and is one of my favorite horses
I have the reverse dapple roan and I named him Sure-Foot because he is a great trail steed. Almost never falters :)
I love the common coats! At first I had the white one but then I got a blue one and named her Blueberry.
Mine is named Blueberry too!
I named my reverse dapple roan Nickle. She was a trusty steed. RIP.
I found a wild nokota in chapter 2 actually found a lot neat bards landing
There is a lady with a suit and top hat that challenges you to a race as well. Does anyone know what kind of horse she is riding? It looks cool but I haven’t seen her again.
She's rides the brindle Thoroughbred
Nakora have race handling? Nice! Now wonder why my basket runs into everything! I thought he was a standard handling.
