Whiskey is very subjective. Any review is just the opinion of that reviewer. He doesn't like it. Hundreds of thousands of others do like it. I never cared for it either but they always sell out quickly in my area of CA.

As a Canadian if you want to try some OK (not amazing) but OK Canadian Whiskeys I would try for the Hansons Distillery (they are a newer one so they dont have the best rye but its alright). Or a brand called Swear Jar, its not the most flavourful whisky in the world but it is what I recommend to people who want to expand their whisky palatte because its in that bracket where its cheap enough to mix but mild enough for a beginner to sip and not get overwhelmed.

If you can find Pendleton 20 yr it’s an incredible Canadian whiskey. Sits on the shelf at my bar and never gets ordered sadly

I'm just getting into bourbon but I found a bottle of whistle pig 10-year store pick a single barrel rye, and it's delightful.
I picked it up for about 70 bucks which I think is less than usual

I had one about 2 years ago and I didn't think it was that bad. Wasn't a store pick though just a regular bottle.
