You should watch the other Elton John and Axl Rose performance. Bohemian Rapsody at the Freddy Mercury Tribute Concert, it was one of the great moments of Rock history, and paved the way to this performance.
The feud between GNR and Nirvana was based on Kurt's hate of corporate based music and considered GNR as sell outs. Axel had invited Nirvana to open for them on one of there tours and Kurt blantly refused saying they could not possibly open for a band who insults feminist and is the complete opposite of what Nirvana stands for.
