    Hey, just wanted to say that I love these videos! They're really relaxing and fun to watch. In your last video, you were asking about what dungeon generators others may use, and I actually made a video on the subject matter ("Solo RPG: Favourite Dungeon Generators") which includes Axebane's deck, but that you may find useful for future solo sessions, perhaps!

    Very fun. I honestly prefer the structure of mass combat than man-to-man or fantasy versus. I'm really trying to make it real for my party but it's too lethal, they won't like it after the first drop lmao
    My problem with this kind of combat rules is the lack of granularity for deaths (I know it's designed for wargames) , it's just too abrupt that's make just a suicide go to dungeons without multiple hirelings (charisma isn't a dump attribute here lol) and people generally prefer to play with small groups (6-12 members) and more character focused...
    It's weird too how 5 skeletons can't do any damage.
    Have you considered homerules giving more hitpoints (+1 normal , +2 hero , +3 superheroes)?

    The second underground fight is a great example of how swingy combat can be. If you hadn’t lost the figure in the previous episode, or had your remaining figure made his 2d6 roll, this combat would have been trivial. As it was, it was frightening and ultimately bore bitter fruit.

    As a family we approve that deck.
    We play it with beds straight on the cards while traveling and with tiles and minis at home.
    To facilitate the cards O rolled 4d6 at each door. 1 die is listen/disarm trap, 1 die for trap yes no, 1 die for torch/lantern blowing out and 1 die for door stuck/locked.
    It really stream lines thr exploration piece.

    • @mikepearse5196
      @mikepearse5196 Год назад

      @@BanditsKeepActualPlay ya we use 10 min turns and track torches. the torch going out is additional ouch. The issue is the listen and trap detection checks. From a solo play perspective you either need to pre determine who will check ahead of time or roll at % to see if that pc checked. I find this method takes care of that in a quicker way. The additional torch hate is just me being a masochist.

    • @mikepearse5196
      @mikepearse5196 Год назад

      @@BanditsKeepActualPlay I also agree that without counting torches you loose way too much of what makes ODD and BX amazing.

      @BanditsKeepActualPlay  Год назад

      @@mikepearse5196 ah yes, I am the same. I may try out your technique in the future, still not 💯 on how I will handle traps in this game - in OD&D they only go off on a 1-2 even when crossed, so I figure that needs to factor in as well

    I am... Let's say a little late... But I think it might be fun, if not a bit more book keeping, if after an adventure your characters had a percent chance to gain some character trait.
    Could be positive, could be negative... But say each character has a 25% chance after adventuring to get a trait such as "Hates undead, will attack undead on sight" or "Fears undead, will flee from undead" or "Curious, leaves no lever unmolested" and so on.
    Well, that is, if you wanted fewer Oracle rolls. If you prefer oracle rolls for character decisions, then that works just as well.

    • @BanditsKeepActualPlay
      @BanditsKeepActualPlay  Год назад +1

      Character traits are certainly a good idea - TBH I mostly run the groups more like a single unit, I could add traits to the unit I suppose- got me thinking for sure

    • @dontyodelsohard2456
      @dontyodelsohard2456 Год назад

      @@BanditsKeepActualPlay Yeah, that could be quite a bit if every character had their own traits... Especially with multiple parties.
      Eh, just an idea... Based mostly on a comment you made about "I don't know this party yet."
      Sorry if the ellipsis make that sound... Ominous. I just like the way they look so I tend to overuse them. And I am aware technically ellipsis is referring to the omission of speech, I use it in reference to the three dots that usually indicates an ellipsis, informally used for... A pause.

    A question, since this is my first exposure to 0D&D. In the previous episode vs the spiders you said that when characters go down, they are "defeated" but not necessarily "dead". What was different in the skeleton combat that caused the downed characters to be killed outright?
    Thanks for doing these, I love watching solo rpg and there isn't enough on YT. 😀

    • @BanditsKeepActualPlay
      @BanditsKeepActualPlay  11 месяцев назад +2

      The defeated thing is a house rule, not part of OD&D - if a creature is likely to capture the PC they will “defeat them” vs killing outright - it’s a gut call/ruling. A skeleton is just going to slay an enemy, a spider wants to you alive (fresh food).

  • @faxer999
    @faxer999 6 месяцев назад

    I said this in the previous video but holy crap is combat deadly! I can't imagine a group of players getting to play their character for that long before needing to do a replacement one. The numbers seem very skewed as well, even though 6 skeletons are needed to even potentially kill a member with a dice roll of 6, with enough turns it is statistically improbable they won't roll at least one 6. It just seems way to discouraging to fight any battles, but I'm sticking around to see how a typical game would play out!
