For the Mules' encumbrance it's listed in Vol. 2 in the section Horses (pg. 20): "As explained in Chainmail, war horses melee. The other characteristics of Horses (and Mules) are: maximum load in gold pieces weight: Light Horses 3000, Medium Horses 3750, Heavy Horses and Draft Horses 4000, Mules 3500. Horses and Mules are panic-stricken by raging fire and strange smells, although those trained for battle are not nearly so likely to be affected. Only Mules are agile enough to be taken in dungeons."
This series is so enjoyable, thank you so much for putting it together. I was there along side you bud, way back in 1974 so completely get every last syllabol and nuance of your game style. This is a rich treasure trove for me in an age of tech and computer gaming, to find something that takes me right back to my grass roots (and like you this is still my preferred way to play - even now with my grey hair and thinnoing locks :-) I`m saving each episode onto my harddrive to watch and treasure ever more.
Also loving this series. Really enjoyed the solo Mapper session, idea and backstory. So much so I got the Outdoor rules! And I never knew OD&D existed until last year, maybe from you! So enjoying seeing it played too. I just got the Chainmail rules today. Subscribed so I won't miss the next one too!
Used to watch your videos all the time when I had a few year professional photography obligation, then I see a recommended OD&D video and check it out, and I'm like, "Is that freakin Daniel Norton?" 😆 Great format and love this stuff, brother!
My assumption based on Men & Magic is that magic-users (and clerics!) both just have all the spells they can use in their spellbooks. So a Medium and Adept would each have spellbooks containing all the 1st-level spells of their respective class, and once they reached Conjurer or Vicar, would gain a second spellbook with all the 2nd-level spells, and so on.
@@BanditsKeepActualPlay Unless I missed something, I don't think Men & Magic ever makes any mention of magic-users being limited in how many spells they have available, other than how many they can memorise each day. And it does feel in line with the fairly simple nature of the original game in its initial incarnation before any of the supplements. The reason people (myself included initially) think that the information is missing is because we make assumptions based on later editions.
Question the mapper couldn't hire an escort, because then they could be used in the encounter when exploring. And they could all be being hired by a patron. Or would the order be mapper alone first, and then the group is sent to explore?
I play mappers as independent explorers and the patreon financing adventuring parties. If a party gets rich enough they can eventually buy their own maps or even just set out looking for locations on their own
Now it is a question of where all the money used to finance such expeditions comes from. I believe that the employer has not only one source of income, he may very well be a land lord, who uses a portion of the profit to exploit the land. Unless you have one that lives only on the profit of exploitation. By knowing how much income the boss can generate per month or per year, we can know his ability to finance a group. This can be varied depending on the size of the home town. And the explanation for the gold roll (3d6 x 10) may very well be the money received from the employer.
@@BanditsKeepActualPlay Ah, thanks! So fighters get say 2x d6 at first level, while magic users 1x d6? And do the classes get other bonuses except extra dice? Like say fixed bonuses?

Awesome, thanks! Weirdly barely more than a PC!
I had no idea these online aids existed. Thank you for sharing them. This series continues to inspire and entertain.
They are super useful, thanks!
I hunkered into my dark basement I watch this video only to be blinded! Great series looking forward to more!

Excellent- I believe I will be using Chainmail for a large scale combat here soon!
Can't wait to see how you handle dungeoneering with these parties!
Soon!

Thanks! My two favorite things, photo and gaming 😁
Fun video Daniel 👏

I’ve definitely heard that assumption before. Delving Deeper, for instance, does it that way.

For sure, I’m not going that deep currently, but that makes sense
Girlpool t-shirt! O.O

23:53 why? Is it just that plate armor makes a character into a Armored Foot? Where does it say that?
Yes, plate makes them armored foot, so they move at max that speed
"I was looking for the lost city but I couldn't find it" lol
😊
😊
How does one roll hit points in OgDnD?
All classes use d6s but the number of dice varies by class/level
