Judith Durham is the female lead and what a beautiful voice. She is the voice of the Seekers.
She died last year of lung Cancer.
Judith! Still classy and beautiful voice into her 70's!!!!!! Her interviews shows her humility and class!!!! They rivaled the Beatles back in the day!!!!
She passed away August 2022
Judith's beautiful voice. The harmonies. And that 12 string guitar. All add up to a wonderful song.
RIP our beautiful Aussie angel,so loved so sadly missed. The Seekers Aussie icons.
One of my favourite songs. Judith's voice is so lovely and the harmonies are perfect. There's a video on youtube that shows them in the studio recording this song. Thanks for playing this.
I was born in 1955 and when I was a young boy I would carry a portable radio around with me. In those days we listened to AM stations and they played all sorts of music, they didn't care if it was R&b, rock n roll, folk or whatever. I would hear the Seekers quite often so this is the music of my youth. I went on to love bands like Led Zepplin but I hold a very special place in my heart for bands like the Seekers.
Same year here, and same experience for me too. We were a lucky generation to have been exposed to all this music across genres.
@@lindazee you are right.1955 here.
Wow. Couple years older, grew up in Los Angeles metro area. Elsewhere on RUclips I’ve left comments the substance of which are nearly identical to what nickface55 wrote.
same experience, but born in 1952 in Los Angeles area. Transistor radio glued to my ear!
I had to smile reading your comment nickface55, that's my birth year too, but came to the US in Sept '63. That's what i remember doing too, listening to a little AM radio, usually at night in bed, especially to DooWop and pop and R&B from the late '50's to mid '60, then we got a stereo, lol.Great music from the good ole days, Roy Orbison, Motown, Brenda Lee ( a fave of my Mom), Sam Cooke, and hundreds of other artists. I got exposed to many different types of music, so thankful for that because it kept me open minded to artists music, regardless of who it was. That has continued to this day, i could list about 40 types i listen to today. Rest in Peace Judith Durham, a beautiful voice, and all the greats from the past who have passed on, you gave us real, beautiful music.
Groovy times growing up in the 1960's! I would go back in a heartbeat!
OH YES !!
Me too!
“Real Music”…very well said! That’s what makes the Seekers music so timeless. Sadly, the world lost Judith Durham several months ago. She was known for a beautiful voice and a beautiful spirit.
Judith Dunham is one of my favorite voices.
Fabulous voice.
Her voice cuts through like a knife, beautiful.
This is my all time favorite group!!! Thank You so so much for sharing. Have a fantastic day
You are so welcome!
Me too Michael! BTW my maiden name was FRAZER!
Thanks for Reacting to Australia's legendary folk band The Seekers. They are the the equivalent to the US, Peter, Paul & Mary.
The lead singer, Judith Durham passed away on 5th August. She and the remaining Seekers have given us such a rich seam of wonderful music over 60 years. It would be a nice tribute to her if you react to 'The Carnival Is Over, 'Georgy Girl', 'Mornightown Ride" 'All Over The Word" or any of a host of other great songs they sang, including the Anthemic 'I Am Australian'
The twelve string acoustic guitar along with her voice makes this song.
RIP Judith Durham. Another angel of music has received her wings. God bless.
Judith Durham from The Seekers passed away this Friday evening aged 79. RIP.
A great Australian Icon group from the 60's, Judith Durham had a beautiful clear voice.
Judith’s voice is one of the best I love their music you might try a world of our own and Georgy girl
Thx y’all! Cool shirt Jefferson! Georgy girl is a hit you might recognize! I was 7 or 8 when this was on the radio. Times were sure different back then but some things never change! The fact that these songs still move people is evidence!
The Seekers were another great Australian folk pop band from the 60's. They had so many great hits including "A World Of Our Own", "Georgy Girl", "The Carnival Is Over", "Morningtown Ride", "Someday, One Day" etc. They have beautiful voices & harmonies. They don't make nostalgic music like this anymore. Reminds me of a simpler time.
The first Australian group/artist to have a number 1 in America
Wow, the first time I heard this song I was about 10 years old on a field trip that our school took us to at the New York Worlds Fair in 1964. It brings back so many good memories. Thank you guys for what you do.
First time that I have seen anyone react to this without seeing this recording in The Abbey Road Studios in London which was a lovely accompanying video...
Asia, I think I get you about the unique guitar sound. The 12 string acoustic guitar - that was used heavily by folk bands like The Seekers and The Byrds - produces a very different sound than the regular 6 string acoustic guitar. On the 12 string, two strings are struck and vibrating with every note versus one string (or multiples of two for chords versus mulitples of one on the 6 string). The Seekers were using both 6 and 12 string guitars (and a stand up bass fiddle) in this song.
Knocked the Beatles off the top of the charts with this one.
What country did that happen in ? It didnt happen in the UK
@@telstar4772 I thought I saw it happened in UK. Possibly it was another song. Saw it in a documentary somewhere on youtube.
@@WU88888 maybe it was in the Mekong Delta
This top UK songs of 1965 with the source linked in the description had this Song at number two ahead of the Beatles Help for the year 65 :
ruclips.net/video/bxcunp2T6v8/видео.html
Based on steady sales through all the year of 65 after hitting number one in February. Beatles record sales would have a burst at number one then buyers would more often stop buying after moving on to the latest hit from the Beatles.
We just lost Judith and Olivia in the space of one week. Australia is heartbroken. Fly to heaven beautiful angels and sing to the heavenly angles x
Thank you for exploring all these genres and older songs. They're a part of music history and each bring something to the table of music and the arts. Folk music classic!
Aussie legends from the 60's. Saw them live in 1966 in Melbourne for my `13th birthday. Dad took my best friend and I. Bought us choc coated almonds... a beautiful memory.
RIP Judith Durham. Voice of an angel
She passed away on August 5th 2022 at the age of 79 complications of lung disease.
This Genre is called Folk Rock.
Sadly, Judith Durham passed away on August 5th. They were together from 62-68. Then regrouped in 93 and stayed together doing different tours until they retired in 2014. In 1997, they released the album future road. In 2003 they preformed their Silver Jubilee tour celebrating 25 years and in 2014 Their golden tour for 50 years. I do believe they are on RUclips.
You're hearing the "folk music" influence from the early 60s. Folk was popular among the mainstream kids and the adults, so it saw some play on the Top 40 lists. The Seekers crossed over from rock to folk nicely. Interesting time.
Rest in Peace Judith! I grew up in these years. It's wonderful FOLK ROCK when lyrics meant something, love meant something. Nowdays? BLAH! I'm so thankful I got to live those years.
Seekers great group from Down under, extraordinary talented. Recorded in early 65 at Abby Road studios London.
Asia & BJ, their "Georgy Girl" is next for you!
As you probably know Georgy Girl was also the theme of the 1967 movie of the same name.
I love this song
I love this 60s classic. What I have really loved about this song, is the beautifully balanced lyrical, instrumental and vocally synchronous quality of the song. From the opening, beautifully blended, guitar/base guitar combo and background baseline vocals that segway into Judith's mid range masterful voice (riding just an octave and a half above the baseline vocals) and throughout the song, it is pure magic. (FTR, I am a retired semi professional music critic, who used to write for a small Boston, Massachusetts newspaper in the early mid 1980s).
Thanks for this reaction. Love, love, love Judith Durham's voice. Y'all need to check out the song "Georgy Girl" next. Thanks and God Bless.
There is a video of them making this recording, just for your own fun, I think you would like to see the studio and them performing this...
25 or fifty years later - they sound exactly the same. The Seekers and their music never got old.
This is why the great Judith Durham (1943 - 2022) was Australia's first Pop Princess. "When the Beatles and the Stones divided households, the Seekers united them."
RIP the beautiful Judith Durham. As a young girl in Australia I would listen to dads Seekers album. It makes me smile that I know every word. This music is like comfort food to me. Like a warm soft blanket.
Thanks for doing The Seekers. My parents loved them when I was small. Look for some clips of pics from their Farewell Concert in Melbourne in around 1968… it was a record crowd at the time
There will never be another like you Judith, RIP.
One of my favorite Australian groups from Down Under. Judith always had such a powerful voice.
The beginning of the song before the voices come in definitely gives off Latino vibes. As you said La Bamba. But once they start singing and the song moves on it's definitely British 60's.
RIP Judith Durham you’re voice will never be forgotten x
Australia represent 🐨 🦘 🇦🇺 ❤️
She had such a beautiful clear pure voice ! RIP 🙏 Judith ... There was another band from that era and the name of the band was Spanking our Gang And they had a song titled Sunday will never be the same ! Awesome Awesome song 🎵 Both bands are considered folk musicians ! I was in the 1st grade when these songs came out , even back then I was into folk music ! There was something so pure and innocent when it came to folk music 🎶
if you want to hear Judith’s lovely voice in isolation then try listening to her singing Eriskay Love Lilt
RIP Judith Durham, we love you
Blue Swede " Hooked on a feeling" the guardian of the Galaxy!
This was out in 64, Georgy Girl in 66. Judy Durham to me is a very good singer. Dig her voice. They were quite successful. There was a New Seekers after this not sure if the band members remained the same.
Yes, I love Judith’s voice. The New Seekers were set up and managed by one of the Seekers after they broke up (they were awful).
@@johnclibbens6803 Thxs for the information
The Seekers are brilliant. “The Carnival Is Over” is another classic by them. ✌️
Judith Durham passed away on August 5th, two months ago tomorrow. She had a unique and lovely voice. Rest in peace, Judith.
It’s a folk song. Folk music was a very popular genre in the 1960’s. There were many groups like Peter Paul and Mary, also Bob Dylan was a folk singer when he started out, but then changed to electric guitar afterwards.
Judith had a world class most recognizable singing voice. You are hearing the acoustic 12 string guitar. Recorded in late 1964 in the same studio the Beatle used in London, Abbey Road. they were from Australia. The song went to #1 in England, #4 in the USA in February 1965. At this point in history it was considered folk music which was still gong strong as musical force, from about 1958 thru 1966. Love the George Jefferson shirt lol. sometimes we used to make fun of songs, change the words...I remember my brother and I singing "I know I'll never find my other shoe..."😂
This song is just great and we’ll never have music like this again
Wow look at this girl. She ain’t nothing but glow and sunshine. She so bright she make cars wreck.
Castanets is what you are thinking of. I like seeing your reaction Asia because you sing you can appreciate voice and can see that as you are listening hearing the subtle s of the vocals, BJ usually gets the instrumentals keep it up, good work guys🤙
Thanks I hadn’t heard that song in a very long time. 😌
RIP Judith. We Sing with 1 voice! You will be missed.
such a sweet song....brings back memories (sniff sniff)
Rest in Peace, Judith Durham, who sadly left us last week aged 79. Heaven's choir has now found a new heavenly voice.
They found their Lead Vocalist
My fav performance from them by far was 'the final performance' - 'I am Australian' - tear jerker for any Aussie and such beautiful lyrics ( this was the full version of the song - it was often cut down)
RIP Judith Durham. Such a pure, otherworldly, amazing voice.
From Australia...Beatles and Stones were in awe of them....
2 guitars, a double bass and Judiths beautiful voice.
1964 The Seekers I'll Never Find Another You, Lead Vocals by Judith Durham writer Dion O'Brien who would later be known as Tom Springfield brother of legend Dusty Springfield AKA Mary O'Brien.
Judith Durham was the fantastic lead singer from this particular song. Love it so much. She recently passed away, but never forgotten. RIP Judith 💖💖
Judith is now about 78 or so. At the time, they were really big - very famous. Their main hit was GEORGIE GIRL which was used in a film of the time. They had break ups and get back together situations throughout the decades but have had their final performances now. Their farewell performance is on RUclips.
Sadly, Judith Durham passed away on August 5, 2022 in Australia. Rest In Peace and thank you for the music dear one!
A folk band that replace the Beatles on the UK charts with this song. The Beatles invited them to open for them at a concert. That's a great honor for any band in the 60s.
RIP Judith, she sadly passed away over the weekend at age 79 - Yes, it made this rocker cry - what a beautiful, powerful voice in that little body. Thank you Judith - Please watch the video of them performing - she's wearing a red dress. Alsoi listen to THE CARNIVAL IS OVER
It sounds like the exact same chord progression as La Bamba. I hear it as well. I have always loved this song. That 12 string guitar is magic. (and Judith ain't half bad either!)
I had this song played at my mothers funeral because it was one of her favorite songs
Seekers had two guitarists and a base cello player with Judith Durham on the Tamborine.
1965. they were identified in the pop music/folk/soft rock genre.
This is the epitome of musical perfection
It does not get any better than this. Judith Durham had perfect pitch . She passed away two weeks ago and what a loss. Such an angelic voice and Keith potger on the 12 string guitar. Perfect. I lost my husband five months and I think of him when I hear this song as I know I'll never find another him. May Judith and my sweetheart of 44 years rest in peace.
I do loveeeee that intro Asia! I wish you had an album of songs…I would buy it!! Also, Asia can you send me a list of some of the songs you have sang? I can look up on utube???💕💕💕
Thank you so much!! Here are some links to my music.

RIP JUDITH DURHAM 6.8.2022, a sad day for Australian Music Hall of fame group the Seekers
Another catchy, harmonious tune, but Judith Durham's soulful voice moves me to a higher plane!. Thanks for your reaction
Their signature song is Georgie Girl. That song epitomizes the 60’s. It highlights Judith’s lovely voice. It’s a must.
I'm 81. This song was one of the first I heard after leaving the military. I spent four years in Asia and came back alone. I wanted a "you" very badly. It stuck in my mind all my life, even to this moment. It took 62 years of my life to "find another you". A lot of hard times alone. I was married for 30 years, but I was alone. It was a marriage out of desperation - tired of being alone. After that ended, I finally found that one person and have lived 20 years at rest. This song says it all.
Folk music that made the British charts
Vale Judith Durham - beautiful person lost to us all
Judith!!! Judith Durham passed away on the 5th of August 2022. There will never be another Judith. She is with the angels now.
Judith durham has one of the purest voices I've heard in the past 60 years of listening to music ( no auto - tune here ! ) Worth listening to " The Carnival Is Over "
They started out singing folk style songs, they are amazing.
yea it did have kind of a lantin vibe to it at first....this was one of those folk type songs and groups of the mid 60's...good stuff
If Asia loves me, then I'm happy! BTW, that song was written by Dusty Springfield's brother Tom.
Judith Durham is tiny, but such a powerful voice. Two of the guys play guitar, the other plays a huge double bass. One of the men wrote "I am Australian," and touched a lot of australian hearts.
One of the greatest love songs ! My wife and danced to it at our wedding...
They had their first farewell concert in 1968 they are Australian Rock royalty 💕🇦🇺👏
A beautiful song.
The deep sound that Asia thought was a guitar is Athol Guy [the one with the glasses] on the Double Bass. Great rabbit hole to check out with this Australian band.
RIP Judith Durham. We lost her August 5, 2022.
Awesome pop rock group.
Big influence on the 60s.
It takes you back to a time you don’t remember, but I do. My teenage years! Nice to hear you kind people react to the music of my long lost youth 😆
Great song 😀
