Dionne Warwick's version of Close To You was recorded in 1964. The song reached #6 in the Billboard charts in1965 (B side of the single). Released in 1970, the Carpenters version became an international hit and an instant classic. Giving the duo their first #1 song. Close To You won the Grammy Award for "Song of the Year', beating out The Beatles (Let It Be) and Simon and Garfunkel (Bridge Over Troubled Water). Quite an accomplishment for the young siblings. Who at that point in time, were frustrated and teetering on obscurity. The hit songs came hard and fast over the next several years. Making the Carpenters one of the most respected and loved artists of all time. Great reaction Asia and BJ. Cheers, RNB

She can sing in low, med, and high notes, and transitions so smoothly between each you don't even really notice it. She has power too because she holds notes so long and effortless, you don't realize how long she has held the note either. The harmonies at the end of the song are so incredible, I listen to just those sometimes to calm me down and help me go into another dimension of calmness.

Had the album. I played it over and over. Had to, because I needed it. Honestly, no kidding, she saved my life. Wish I could've returned the favor.

The greatest female voice ever ! I highly recommend their live version of " I know I need to be in love" , great video of them performing live.

This is the first 45 I ever had. Me and my best friend Gail would listen to this over and over on our clunky record player. Even in our youth and with the crappy sound we knew that Karen was shining star. Great memories, thank you!
