These are non issues. If you have a preference for the older look that's fine, but most won't care or notice changes like the grill lines or slight color differences.
the weird thing is that AI upscaling should be particularly good at adding detail to exactly stuff like those grill lines instead of it resulting in a washed out texture... i really think that is more youtube compression than anything else.

All the comments here saying that AI upscaling is just nitpicking, did everyone collectively decide to forget about the absolute disaster that was the GTA Definitive Edition? AI upscaling is fine, if it's used right. But overuse of upscaling is a big neon sign pointing to a dev team that's too small, too time constrained or too amateurish for the remastering that they're undertaking. Just like the GTA Definitive Edition. Edit: Who could have seen this coming.
So for the background in Geonosis they are actually the Sandia mountains from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Having lived there for 20 years it's pretty cool to see them in the game and I immediately recognized them. Besides that this video seems really nitpicky. I know the graphics are bad I just want to play a good fps with my friends with no microtransactions and this should do it!

As long as the gameplay is as fun and addictive as the originals, the graphics don’t really bother me. If the game doesn’t play as good then we going to have problems. I’ve preordered it already and am excited to see how it will turn out, sure the graphics may not look the same but the originals were never truly about the graphics it was always about fun gameplay. On a side note I find it funny how I redownloaded both the originals on my Xbox and played them again only for the classic collection to get revealed a couple days later lol
people are about to get the aspyr treatment for the first time and im ready to laugh. Does nobody remember how dirty this company is? How many disasters they've helmed? They released republic commando on switch a couple years ago it wasnt even playable and had to have it removed from the store. Then there was the Kotor 2 port they did, where the big selling point was it was implemented the restored content. The game released and it wasnt there. A year later, it wasnt there. They finally came out and said "we're sowy we arent doing that actually. Thanks for your money!" They were also the original team making that Kotor Remake. It was going so disasterously Disney pulled the plug and took it out of their hands. This is disney. They NEVER do that shit. So when I here that a 4 GB game is now 50 GBs and it looks almost the same I know whats happened here. Whats happened is everyone working there is REALLY bad and they dont care. They are the kings of the quick cash grab and run to the bank laughing. Do not preorder this shit please do not. I promise you day one there will be tons of videos about how the shit isnt working.
The ship glass ball turret thingy was honestly worse, but everything else in my opinion was unnecessary nitpicks. I love that my favourite childhood games are returning and I am absolutely in love with the idea of this being 4K Native Res with 60fps and 4K raw upscaled textures, super cool. Some things look a little cartoony because of the upscale but honestly the game already did look very cartoony in my opinion. Most of what I have seen I really loved!

In the end, we can just mod them back lol also it seems they upscaled the console version textures rather than upscale the PC textures which causes that purple hue sometimes.
From what I can observe the Classic Collection appears to be upscaling the console versions textures, which are lower in quality than the original PC version. I noticed on the Rebel's fighter in the Hoth hangar how different the grill and red paint looks in both the original PC version and the Xbox version. Compare that to the Classic Collection you can tell they are using the Xbox's textures. Probably explains the upscale artifacts, it's trying to upscale from such a small, SMALL resolution. Now personally I am hoping they fix this or at the very least provide a graphic setting to use the original textures.

At 5:02, the trailer uses footage from the first Battlefront, not the second. The presence of the rebel pilot, the green Command Post, and the functioning reflectors in the back are telltale signs of this.

I think they ought to just bring HarrisonFog in on it if he's willing and just use his remastered maps/sides, with optional default sides. It would make the game look so much better and garner a lot of support from the playerbase who are itching for graphical improvements.
These minor details won't matter because I plan on running around and playing the game. I won't be examining still images. As long as the framerate is smooth, I will be happy.
The only thing I care about is mod support. Pretty much all mods are already superior to the original or whatever Aspyr is making whether it's gameplay, content, and even graphic-wise. If we don't get a mod-compatible server browser, there's no point in the new release. If you look at the Battlefront community on PC (the people who have been playing the game all these years), it is very split on the new release, because we already have a remaster, rebalance, reboot, DLC. If mods are not taken into account, this will be a very short-lived release.
I normally agree with your videos but this isn't a big deal. I am more than happy to have battlefront back on all platforms with multiplayer. The graphics look fine to me and im normally a stickler for it. I personally think this is nit picky. Some of the stuff actually looks better, some looks worse (like the snowspeeder) This is all stuff that wont make any difference while you are playing. If this was a full blown remake then I would 100% agree with you.
The hive-mind is strong, I’m kinda skeptical of the game and the mediocre history of the company. I don’t think they’ll deliver, what you showed are actual bugs. I wouldn’t be surprised if we get burned, I don’t think this is something that’s excusable. Even at this price tag, to just AI upscale everything and to not even use the best textures or edit them. That’s brutal, this game is lacking quality control and this should be a cause of concern. For PC players there is almost no value, they are capitalizing on people’s nostalgia it’s gross. Regardless, I’ve already got a pre-order in with the safety of steam refunds I’ll see if it’s better or worse on launch.
I kinda wish graphically if they were gonna cheap out by upscaling on textures they went a bit further on the lighting like with the recent quake 2 remaster. A lot of ports of older games like this screw up a lot of the post processing and special effect shaders that make these old games less flat so going further with the lighting engine would go a long way
I've played the original battlefronts as a kid when they came out and loved em and in the classic collection trailer they both look better then ever as a HD re release with full multiplayer support I'm not bothered if the graphics are a bit different to the original I get the nick picks of certain shots of the classic collection but at the end of the day classic battlefront is back with full multiplayer support for everyone to enjoy what more could we even ask for ? Just my opinion lol 😊

I'm hoping Aspyr develops *"Retro DLC"* for this game. Add in Ahsoka, and maybe new characters that use weapons similar to those of the Praetorian Guards. Add in the new version of Assajj Ventress coming out soon as well with _The Bad Batch_ new series. _Ahsoka's_ vision of Anakin with a red sabre would be cool as well. Other ideas to be welcomed. - New Heroes and villains with new gameplay mechanics would be welcome.
Well, I just pre-ordered the classic collection today, so, I MAINLY bought this because I’ve never played the original Star Wars Battlefront (2004) game. But, Star Wars Battlefront II (2005) I remember FONDLY, THAT game and LEGO Star Wars: The VideoGame is what got me into Star Wars as a whole.
5:39 In the trailer you can also see from the green command post that this is Hoth on Battlefront 1 in the trailer. The PC version you are using for the comparison is Battlefront 2. That makes a difference.
I feel like everyone is missing the point: the gripe isn't about the 'graphics not being good enough' - it's whether the up-scaled graphics justify the MAMMOTH 50+ gigs of storage just to play the games (which it really doesn't). It is really pretty obscene that these 3-4 gig games have quintupled in size in this port. I think that this video actually VALIDATES what everyone in the comments is are saying: that we don't really care about the game being graphically up-scaled as much as we just care about being able to play them again with the option to play online.
Its a cashgrab to milk money off of console peasants. Just mod in all the maps into Battlefront II and get all the best maps mods like all the ones with both space and ground combat. Only way I would ever get tempted to get the collection is if Galactic Conquest gets online multiplayer which we all know will never happen.

I understand your worries, but honestly In the heat of battle (especially with the XL battle mode) those will be hard to even notice. If you stand still for a little bit, some of it can be eye catching, but most of the time the focus will be on the fighting objective.
I would have wanted a remake with fully rebuilt graphics but we didn't get that. This is the next best thing though to at least get the graphics upscaled to 4k and redo the lighting. Some minor errors but I think overall it will look better. Informative video though thanks for making it.
This is a collection. I played this when I was like 7. I am now 24 and I am looking forward to playing these games in their outdated graphics and all their glory! 😩
Dude....why judge about graphics..... We finally get to experience the GAMEPLAY that the EA Battlefront games robbed us of due to their greed. We are in a gaming market where you can have a fancy looking product, but the gameplay or story is downright horrendous. Just appreciate the fact that we are getting that experience from our childhood as adults again.
I'm not judging the entire thing. I've said multiple times I like various things about it. Just because it's our childhood game doesn't give it a pass. It should look better than it did 20 years ago, it looks worse on some cases. The PC version has been playable just fine for 20 years, we've been able to play it for that long. It's not a long lost game

I see your point with the "drawing" type look up close, but as someone who never really played these games in first person I think the improved sharpness of the new textures will vastly outweigh the ai imperfections you point out. Would I have prefered they remade them by hand? Sure, but that could also end up looking too different or looked odd compared to the low (by modern standards) poly models, at which point they would likely need to remake the entire games to make it look visually consistant. That would have been great too, but it's clear based on the trailer that this was never going to be a full remake.

this has been debunked as a thing you will only see in the specific trailer because they used some guys mod for the trailer, which will not be the case for the actual game. There are allegedly already trailers out, said so by the modder himself on reddit, where she uses the proper Nunchucks. Surprised so many people just dismiss this. Yeah, I admit, the title is over the top (and a bit clickbaity...), but I do agree that this is lazy as fuck and that I hope they don't just release it with so many dumb AI mistakes. Because if the whole game is just AI upscaled, you will notice it in some areas. They obviously want the trailer to look good, but they won't show the worse looking areas.
if I didnt do that, people would not know this is an issue. I raise concern so we aren't surprised at launch but it is just dismissed. I guess we'll see how people react when it comes out and if it has bad areas

The only issue that I have with Battlefront is this is how they should of made the game in the rebooted Battlefront 1 and 2 but in the frostbite engines. I liked the freedom of play and docking capital ships in the original Battlefront 2.

I don’t know really - not to sound rude or anything but these are just speculation and I know it may just be my preference but I really don’t mind about the graphics as I will be playing this game as a celebration of these two amazing games. It may just be images taken at an angle or distance which just might not seem the same from the same angle - bearing in mind that this is not really a remaster but a rerelease. I do think that various aspects of the graphics were nitpicking at things that I’m not going to take notice of.
The tiny practically invisible graphics details don't matter in the slightest to me. Sure, I guess(?) the small graphics details that are "worse", but the rest looks just fine, as long as the graphics aren't hideously broken like the recent GTA re-releases, then it really shouldn't be a "BIG" problem. What matters to me is that we're getting the true Battlefront games re-released together on modern consoles. I can't stand the EA ones with their main modes being locked behind online play, and their stiff and aggravating gameplay, as well as a lack of features that the OG games had. Having games like the OG Battlefronts and Jedi Outcast/Academy on console again is the big selling point for me.
I think the rainbow colour aberration can be fixed with a simple desaturation pass of the offending colours but this is manual work. Likewise you could retrieve the crisp lines by creating a mask from the lower resolution version and using that to colour erase the wobbly edges. The next generation of up scalers will probably include this as an option. Star wars Galaxies may be re-launched with up-scaled textures if this works. It uses some of the same textures. There are mods that add textures and better water and do magic with shaders. The real question is can they create a tool that infers normal maps from earlier game textures and include it in the old engines without breaking the engine? There is about 30 games that could benefit from that. I'm the guy that's been saying that they need to talk to and team up with the modding community for Battlefront, Star Wars Galaxies, Star Wars Empire at War. Other engines have been modded to emulate battlefront: Arma and Squad, etc. All the old Lucas arts & Sony games should be looked at. The newer engines like Offworld Industries, Squad, makes a good Star Wars game. I trust Peltz and his team to do this better than Iger but I suspect the people actually doing the work are likely to work for either rival leader. A lot of creatives at Disney are, I suspect, creating portfolios to show off to new people if there is a board change.
Here's my take, and I know it'll sound the same to everyone else, but I don't really care about graphics. I don't care how it looks, just as long as the game plays really good, so much that I'll keep coming back to it. Then that's really all matters to me.
My cousin and I are huge fans of this game and have been playing it for about 15 years now. We have never been able to play it together except for when we were in person. That’s not the case now, and so I would take a version with slightly different bolts and grates and shades of colors than a game where I’m stuck with bots and not my friends and family.
People are complaining about an old game that’s more than 15 years old, and it has been revamped to handle the newer systems that are out today with larger scale lobbies. Of course the memory is going to be higher because it needs to be able to compensate for the amount of players that are going to be playing in a single arena at a time. Not to mention the additional heroes that have been added to the game as well. So 50 gigs for a revamped game that’s more than 15 years old with additional content added and a slight graphics upgrade is not too much to ask. Not compared to the newer games that come out that are 100 gigs plus. And this is two games in one. You are looking at about 25 gigs per game plus content additions!! I’m just psyched to be able to play this game on live. I was too young when this game came out to enjoy it at its prime.
Most of the games i'd want a remaster for they already did... just didn't bring them to PC. This one i don't care about, never played the OG, no nostalgia for it ... this they bring to PC. Give me EP1 Racer and Republic Commando with proper gamepad controls for Steam Deck and i'll buy it.

I love that my favourite childhood games are returning and I am absolutely in love with the idea of this being 4K Native Res with 60fps and 4K raw upscaled textures, super cool. Some things look a little cartoony because of the upscale but honestly the game already did look very cartoony in my opinion. Most of what I have seen I really loved!

Why is everyone being so willfully ignorant? His entire point was that they very clearly did tamper with the game, not that they didn't and it looks outdated like many people here are claiming. From what I can observe the Classic Collection appears to be upscaling the console versions textures, which are lower in quality than the original PC version. I noticed on the Rebel's fighter in the Hoth hangar how different the grill and red paint looks in both the original PC version and the Xbox version. Compare that to the Classic Collection you can tell they are using the Xbox's textures. Probably explains the upscale artifacts, it's trying to upscale from such a small, SMALL resolution. Now personally I am hoping they fix this or at the very least provide a graphic setting to use the original textures.

At 5:02, the trailer uses footage from the first Battlefront, not the second. The presence of the rebel pilot, the green Command Post, and the functioning reflectors in the back are telltale signs of this.

I think they ought to just bring HarrisonFog in on it if he's willing and just use his remastered maps/sides, with optional default sides. It would make the game look so much better and garner a lot of support from the playerbase who are itching for graphical improvements.
These minor details won't matter because I plan on running around and playing the game. I won't be examining still images. As long as the framerate is smooth, I will be happy.

Your issues aren't issues
The only thing I care about is mod support. Pretty much all mods are already superior to the original or whatever Aspyr is making whether it's gameplay, content, and even graphic-wise. If we don't get a mod-compatible server browser, there's no point in the new release. If you look at the Battlefront community on PC (the people who have been playing the game all these years), it is very split on the new release, because we already have a remaster, rebalance, reboot, DLC. If mods are not taken into account, this will be a very short-lived release.
Yeah they've made the original game last 19 years. I hope the same can be said for this
I normally agree with your videos but this isn't a big deal. I am more than happy to have battlefront back on all platforms with multiplayer. The graphics look fine to me and im normally a stickler for it.
I personally think this is nit picky. Some of the stuff actually looks better, some looks worse (like the snowspeeder)
This is all stuff that wont make any difference while you are playing. If this was a full blown remake then I would 100% agree with you.
The hive-mind is strong, I’m kinda skeptical of the game and the mediocre history of the company. I don’t think they’ll deliver, what you showed are actual bugs. I wouldn’t be surprised if we get burned, I don’t think this is something that’s excusable. Even at this price tag, to just AI upscale everything and to not even use the best textures or edit them. That’s brutal, this game is lacking quality control and this should be a cause of concern. For PC players there is almost no value, they are capitalizing on people’s nostalgia it’s gross. Regardless, I’ve already got a pre-order in with the safety of steam refunds I’ll see if it’s better or worse on launch.

I kinda wish graphically if they were gonna cheap out by upscaling on textures they went a bit further on the lighting like with the recent quake 2 remaster. A lot of ports of older games like this screw up a lot of the post processing and special effect shaders that make these old games less flat so going further with the lighting engine would go a long way

I'm hoping Aspyr develops *"Retro DLC"* for this game. Add in Ahsoka, and maybe new characters that use weapons similar to those of the Praetorian Guards. Add in the new version of Assajj Ventress coming out soon as well with _The Bad Batch_ new series. _Ahsoka's_ vision of Anakin with a red sabre would be cool as well. Other ideas to be welcomed. - New Heroes and villains with new gameplay mechanics would be welcome.

Well, I just pre-ordered the classic collection today, so, I MAINLY bought this because I’ve never played the original Star Wars Battlefront (2004) game. But, Star Wars Battlefront II (2005) I remember FONDLY, THAT game and LEGO Star Wars: The VideoGame is what got me into Star Wars as a whole.

In the trailer you can also see from the green command post that this is Hoth on Battlefront 1 in the trailer. The PC version you are using for the comparison is Battlefront 2. That makes a difference.

I feel like everyone is missing the point: the gripe isn't about the 'graphics not being good enough' - it's whether the up-scaled graphics justify the MAMMOTH 50+ gigs of storage just to play the games (which it really doesn't). It is really pretty obscene that these 3-4 gig games have quintupled in size in this port. I think that this video actually VALIDATES what everyone in the comments is are saying: that we don't really care about the game being graphically up-scaled as much as we just care about being able to play them again with the option to play online.

I understand your worries, but honestly In the heat of battle (especially with the XL battle mode) those will be hard to even notice. If you stand still for a little bit, some of it can be eye catching, but most of the time the focus will be on the fighting objective.

I would have wanted a remake with fully rebuilt graphics but we didn't get that. This is the next best thing though to at least get the graphics upscaled to 4k and redo the lighting. Some minor errors but I think overall it will look better. Informative video though thanks for making it.

Dude....why judge about graphics..... We finally get to experience the GAMEPLAY that the EA Battlefront games robbed us of due to their greed. We are in a gaming market where you can have a fancy looking product, but the gameplay or story is downright horrendous. Just appreciate the fact that we are getting that experience from our childhood as adults again.
I'm not judging the entire thing. I've said multiple times I like various things about it. Just because it's our childhood game doesn't give it a pass. It should look better than it did 20 years ago, it looks worse on some cases. The PC version has been playable just fine for 20 years, we've been able to play it for that long. It's not a long lost game

I see your point with the "drawing" type look up close, but as someone who never really played these games in first person I think the improved sharpness of the new textures will vastly outweigh the ai imperfections you point out. Would I have prefered they remade them by hand? Sure, but that could also end up looking too different or looked odd compared to the low (by modern standards) poly models, at which point they would likely need to remake the entire games to make it look visually consistant. That would have been great too, but it's clear based on the trailer that this was never going to be a full remake.

@@moderndemon84 look at 31 seconds into the trailer and in the screenshots for the game on steam they both show ventress using Aayla’s animations which implies that they just incorporated the pc mod instead of actually including the real dlc
this has been debunked as a thing you will only see in the specific trailer because they used some guys mod for the trailer, which will not be the case for the actual game.
There are allegedly already trailers out, said so by the modder himself on reddit, where she uses the proper Nunchucks.

Surprised so many people just dismiss this. Yeah, I admit, the title is over the top (and a bit clickbaity...), but I do agree that this is lazy as fuck and that I hope they don't just release it with so many dumb AI mistakes. Because if the whole game is just AI upscaled, you will notice it in some areas. They obviously want the trailer to look good, but they won't show the worse looking areas.
if I didnt do that, people would not know this is an issue. I raise concern so we aren't surprised at launch but it is just dismissed. I guess we'll see how people react when it comes out and if it has bad areas

A lot of remasters have already been doing this for a while, but yeah, it’s unfortunate.
The only issue that I have with Battlefront is this is how they should of made the game in the rebooted Battlefront 1 and 2 but in the frostbite engines. I liked the freedom of play and docking capital ships in the original Battlefront 2.

I don’t know really - not to sound rude or anything but these are just speculation and I know it may just be my preference but I really don’t mind about the graphics as I will be playing this game as a celebration of these two amazing games. It may just be images taken at an angle or distance which just might not seem the same from the same angle - bearing in mind that this is not really a remaster but a rerelease. I do think that various aspects of the graphics were nitpicking at things that I’m not going to take notice of.
Ai fixes > Graphics. Graphics are icing on a cake, but if the cake tastes bad: no one cares about the icing.

The tiny practically invisible graphics details don't matter in the slightest to me. Sure, I guess(?) the small graphics details that are "worse", but the rest looks just fine, as long as the graphics aren't hideously broken like the recent GTA re-releases, then it really shouldn't be a "BIG" problem. What matters to me is that we're getting the true Battlefront games re-released together on modern consoles. I can't stand the EA ones with their main modes being locked behind online play, and their stiff and aggravating gameplay, as well as a lack of features that the OG games had. Having games like the OG Battlefronts and Jedi Outcast/Academy on console again is the big selling point for me.
I think the rainbow colour aberration can be fixed with a simple desaturation pass of the offending colours but this is manual work. Likewise you could retrieve the crisp lines by creating a mask from the lower resolution version and using that to colour erase the wobbly edges. The next generation of up scalers will probably include this as an option.
Star wars Galaxies may be re-launched with up-scaled textures if this works. It uses some of the same textures. There are mods that add textures and better water and do magic with shaders. The real question is can they create a tool that infers normal maps from earlier game textures and include it in the old engines without breaking the engine? There is about 30 games that could benefit from that.
I'm the guy that's been saying that they need to talk to and team up with the modding community for Battlefront, Star Wars Galaxies, Star Wars Empire at War. Other engines have been modded to emulate battlefront: Arma and Squad, etc. All the old Lucas arts & Sony games should be looked at. The newer engines like Offworld Industries, Squad, makes a good Star Wars game. I trust Peltz and his team to do this better than Iger but I suspect the people actually doing the work are likely to work for either rival leader. A lot of creatives at Disney are, I suspect, creating portfolios to show off to new people if there is a board change.

Here's my take, and I know it'll sound the same to everyone else, but I don't really care about graphics. I don't care how it looks, just as long as the game plays really good, so much that I'll keep coming back to it. Then that's really all matters to me.
My cousin and I are huge fans of this game and have been playing it for about 15 years now. We have never been able to play it together except for when we were in person. That’s not the case now, and so I would take a version with slightly different bolts and grates and shades of colors than a game where I’m stuck with bots and not my friends and family.
So, most of this is barely noticeable, and I think it looks MUCH better overall.

People are complaining about an old game that’s more than 15 years old, and it has been revamped to handle the newer systems that are out today with larger scale lobbies. Of course the memory is going to be higher because it needs to be able to compensate for the amount of players that are going to be playing in a single arena at a time. Not to mention the additional heroes that have been added to the game as well. So 50 gigs for a revamped game that’s more than 15 years old with additional content added and a slight graphics upgrade is not too much to ask. Not compared to the newer games that come out that are 100 gigs plus. And this is two games in one. You are looking at about 25 gigs per game plus content additions!! I’m just psyched to be able to play this game on live. I was too young when this game came out to enjoy it at its prime.
