Great review. These compact, discreet, but still stylish cameras like the Fuji X100, the Leica CL and now the Nikon Z fc (and maybe the Leica Q or M10 with a small lens) I think have a wonderful place in the camera world. They offer higher image quality, more control, and a better outlet for artistic expression than even the latest iPhone cameras, yet are scaled back enough to where you can carry and use them in casual situations - essentially almost anywhere. Sure a Canon 1DX/R3 or Sony α1 far outperform it for serious professional usage, but half the people drooling over those cameras online don't even need that performance most of the time, let alone in their every day life. I'm glad camera companies are offering high quality options for people who want something very usable but not too "serious" - I like to go out with a camera without looking like a cliche of a reportage or sports photographer from the 1980s!
Thank you Ken for your great reviews...I am a fan from Australia and your reviews are invaluable and I rely on them for my information and instructions... tah
Great review. I purchased a Nikon Z FC because it reminds of my manual FE2 and FM2 I had. I purchased the 50-250 lens to bring with me hiking in Alaska. I ended up trading it in for the 24-200 which is a better quality lens than the 50-250. Have enjoyed shooting with it around Alaska. The exposure compensation works great in helping get the correct exposure. Overall great camera and perfect size for hiking and carrying around. The battery life, as you mentioned, is phenomenal.
I own a z50, the the 16-50 kit lens is insanely good for the size, weight and cost. Well, it's a good lens period, and this is a super combo for travel, hiking, biking etc.
Just got this camera today with the 16-50mm kit lens. It’s a fantastic little beast of a camera! I really don’t understand what some online reviews are saying that this is lightweight, plasticky body. It’s heavier than my old Panasonic LUMIX G7 and that was a plasticky feeling camera. This Z fc has some deceptive weight. And it looks and feels amazing IMHO. Yeah I wish it was full frame and that the video record limit was more than 30 minutes. But I’m not willing to shell out Sony prices for an A7S body.
Great video as always and must big up the jpeg crowd "I don't shot RAW" either. Only two things hate plastic lens mounts, i wondering how long it will be before they do a plastic body mount on a low end camera would it even work 🤔?? Also all those years of using Nikon cameras and still have a struggle lineing up and mounting a lens properly, no offence.
Hope you love it. Just know that DX and FX cameras look the same, but use different lenses and don’t really mix well to create one system. The Zfc is pretty old and Canon’s newer APS-C Mirrorless are preferred. See www.kenrockwell.com/canon/eos-r/r10.htm for instance.
@@KenRockwellTV I've thought about a Canon R APSC but I'm pretty devoted to Nikon right now. Honestly I am hoping Nikon makes an APSC body with IBIS soon. I'd like to try the Voigtlander Z lenses with the ZFC though. They would be beautiful on it.
I would not be devoted to Nikon anymore. It's not 1978 the they ruled the land, and lets face it: they certainly aren't devoted to you or I. I wouldn't wait around for them when Canon is already there with four superb models, and hey, its a free country so check it out and let me know what you think.. @@corykphotography
I just purchased the new Zf and returned it realizing the money I had spent and the images it produced. I appreciate the older gear as Ive been buying some older Nikons at great deals with some patience. Older cameras have a look that I miss from using older gear from the past. My antique Nikon D700 still produces some excellent images to this day. And when I want small, my D90 in which I paid $150 for is my perfect travel companion. Heck, I just started shooting images using old film cameras again I bought, or still have. I really miss the old FM cameras. I just found an F6 on Offer Up that sat for 3mos, and I talked the guy down in price. Get what YOU want, but make sure you're happy with the images, and enjoying the time when using the gear.
@@KenRockwellTVtell me can we use our F mount Nikon DX 17-55mm f/2.8g lens and 85mm 1.4D with this zfc and Fuji Film mirror less camera easily with ftz2 adapter.?? Or this camera would have some limitations with F mount lenses.? I want to use it for professional photography only but not for videos
Lovely and stylish camera, I think there will be a Zf full frame camera in near future. And maaaan look at your F mount retro camera arsenal! Love that! Thank you very much for this video.
Thanks Ken for an enjoyable review, the facts, reflections, and presentation. Gosh that Senal mic sounds good. BTW, I love your audio gear reviews. I smile at the praise of older gear. I bought a Sony PCM-M10 per your review and love it for interviews and even live music. An amazing little cigarette-pack size recorder..
Crazy thing is I just got a pair of new Shure SM-81 and made a test with an SCM-660 in figure 8 and SM-81 on different channels of my voice, and once I corrected the different levels between mics, they sounded the same up close set to flat. Strange but true. Thanks!
Cool. It's a wonderful time when affordable gear (and older tech) is so good. An exception: I am looking forward to exchanging my iPhone 12 Pro Max for an iPhone 13 Pro - smaller, yet amazing. The 12 Pro Max has been a workhorse for real estate, event, and even portrait photos and video!
Having a hard time choosing a small camera to compliment my z5 full frame. Z50 has buttons, grip and decent price I’d feel comfortable with. Z fc has rotating screen, usbc charging, and no crop in 4K. Maybe if one of them had 2 uhs ii memory card slots or ibis it be easier to choose. Z30 May be nice though not sure about it 😣
Very nice review and I agree so much with you, it is a take anywhere camera to just enjoy photography. So light, sharp and proves you don’t always have to carry around the heavy kit.
No! The 16-50 replaces the 28. Looks dirty here because of the extreme closeup, high resolution and great light. Doesn’t look anywhere near that bad in person. Thanks!
Nice review thanks. I’m still using a D5300 and I’ve got some lenses for it. The size comparison of the new kit lens vs an adapted AF lens was very helpful because I was thinking of adapting my current lenses but no way I’m doing that now. I like this camera but I’m thinking I’ll pickup a Z50 with kit lens, I need that fill flash.
My Z50 mark2 arrives tomorrow and my next camera is Pentax 17 Half frame that I hope you do a video about soon since your opinions have led me to more than a few purchases in the past why? Because I Trust you. Thank you for being you. I just realized that I was subscribed to you on my lost account and I now shall re subscribe.
Thank you for the video. I appreciate your POV on the camera. But . . . You lost me at the "vivid" setting as I believe that to be a sin - people or not. :-) Still a good review. And the file naming convention was really useful information. TY!
I'm considering going back to Nikon for this camera. I sold all my Pro Nikon gear a few years ago when closed my wedding photography business. I purchased a Fuji X-T20 and XT3 for the smaller form factor like the older Nikon film cameras. Even though I'm considering Nikon again I would hardly call Fuji "rubbish" cameras.
They aren't rubbish but they are only either Crop bodies or Medium Format. Fuji doesn't have any full frame digital cameras and I think that is stupid.
I recently snagged new Z50 2 lens kit on fleabay for 840 shipped and liked it so much I just ordered the Zfc and 28mm 2.8 kit. I really wanted just the lens lol but the Zfc looks so sexy🤷♂️🤣 and Ive been waiting for fuji like camera with Nikon colors and menus😀
Another great review! However, it did bring up a curiosity question about you Ken: With so many cameras in your collection, when you go on a family vacation which camera/lens is likely to be your first go to?
@@KenRockwellTV , I love your honesty!!! :D and the reason that I trusted your article when I decided to by the Nikon d750 in 2017, and the Nikon AF-S 28-300mm VRII.

@@mafianoodles well about 99.99999% gear review channels share this opinion, fyi. Actually I’m rather surprised Ken did not bring it up, being as accurate as he usually is
Hats off to Nikon for producing a digital camera that from a few steps away so closely resembles my beloved film FM both in physical resemblance and the placement of the controls. I purchased a Fujifilm X100F camera a few years ago as an easy to carry 'travel camera' for those times I didn't want to carry a bulkier SLR with lenses and am very happy with it, but had I known that Nikon was going to issue a virtual digital clone to my FM I would have waited to purchase a digital camera and bought the Zfc instead. Can it use older Nikon 'legacy' lenses? (I have a collection of non-AI/AI/AI-S lenses)
Hi Ken! Sorry for joining the party late, but great review as always. I was considering purchasing this camera to use my old AIS lenses (28 f/2.8 and 85 f/1.4). Your take on this seems negative, isn’t it? What’s your advice on this? (I already have a d5100 with 17-55 2.8)
Don’t bother. It works crappy with full frame lenses - no aperture control. Get the only full frame Nikon Df www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/df.htm or any full frame DSLR and they work great. Sadly nikon and no one makes a proper adapter that can communicate with all the mechanical controls of manual lenses, you have to use a 35mm or FX DSLR camera for it to work well.
Yes and no. There is no native ultra-ultra wide for APS-C DX, and otherwise the Z 16-50 DX and Z 50-250 DX are perfect and the only two lenses you need with this. Thanks!
Caution! I recently downloaded firmware for the Zfc from Nikon. When I hit the upload, the camera shut itself down and would not restart. Nikon support told me it would have to be sent to a service center. I mailed it, at my expense. After a week, I got an estimate for repair. Almost $ 300.00. This camera was just over one year old, purchased directly from Nikon and had less than 1,000 actuations. The camera worked perfectly until I tried to upload the firmware. Note - I own over two dozen Nikon cameras including four Z series and I am very familiar with the update procedure. Has anyone else had this problem?
Never heard of this, but always worried about this problem since the 1990s when customer firmware updates became a thing. I bet you’d have better luck with Canon; I can’t see them charging you for their error just outside of warranty. This is just another reason I went Canon back in 2013. Sorry about that and thanks for the update.
Received my Nikon Z fc earlier this week and absolutely love it. I got the 28mm SE kit but ordered the 16-50 today and now I have the 40mm f/2 lens as well.
I think I've finally found the camera to replace my Sony A65. Since Sony seems to have abandoned the A-mount, it would seem to be a perfect time to jump architectures. I wanted to get the Sony a7C, but it's a little too much, and none of the Canons seem to interest me.
@@KenRockwellTV How would you judge its native JPEG quality? I shoot RAW exclusively on my Sony because the in-camera JPEGs are garbage. Unfortunately, the camera shoots slower when it has to deal with RAW, so I'm hoping the Z fc's a camera where I can shoot JPEG and still have excellent quality and reserve RAW only for that special occasion. Mind you, that's not a dealbreaker; the Z fc seems to have so much that would make me forget about that shortcoming :) The body alone would be enough to make me overlook everything else.
The Nikon FM3A of 2001-2006 is one of the rare examples of old film cameras that its introductory price is the same of used ones many many years laters. Of course there is a reason for that and is called RUclips.
A great review Ken. I am deciding whether to get a Z50 or a ZFC (I have a D5500 right now) I know pros don't use on camera flash, but if I got the Zfc as an all round camera, how would you take photos at night in a restaurant or at a party without flash? Would you wind up the ISO or use an off camera flash or LED etc. Or just take a dark photo
Night shots? Those all shot in auto ISO hand held, no flash needed. For party be sure to set a shutter speed of about 1/125 for slowest speed in auto ISO. Ideally an iPhone works better faster for people photos in dim conditions
I think the 30 min 4k video limit has to do with the EU, and not necessarily the capabilities of the camera itself (ie. the processor and sensor). I remember reading some article that to get around some tax, cameras sold in the EU had a limit of 29:59 max before they would be "taxed" or considered video cameras (Which may have lead to additional tax or classification) and since it would be easy for someone to simply import a grey market to get around it, most cameras have this limit. I don't know if this applies to 8k video though (as the Z9) supposedly can record over 30 minutes of 8k video in one go, but many cameras (at least up until recently) had a 30 min limit on 4k. For the ISO, I don't think many people would want to shoot below the native ISO (and many people advise against this anyway). It will be interesting to see if NIkon continues to update the AF on the ZFc. I know in the most recent update (a few weeks back) they did improve the aF for video, but sadly, the Z50 did not receive this update, so the Zfc might have a slightly longer life span in terms of features and updates (via firmware) than the Z50 (then again, the Zfc is about a year newer, despite sharing a lot of the same technology as the Z50, like the sensor and processor). If the Zfc is anything like my Z6 II, I would expect that eye AF is decent, but tracking of unpredictable subjects (which has always been a challenge for the Z cameras) will still suffer. I think only the Z9 is really suited for true wildlife photography with it's revised and revamped AF system coupled with the Expeed 7 processor. My only potential grip with the Zfc (after playing with one) is it feels a bit cheap compared to the Fuji XT30, which feels like it has more metal and is more sturdily built, and is cheaper. But supposedly both the ZFc and XT30 have magnesium bodies but the Zfc just has a plastic feel to it, and for the money, this is something I would be on the fence about. I mean the Z50 feels more like the XT30 and costs less, but it doesn't have the film-like look and feel to it. I would have liked to see NIkon make this a little more, but make the body feel more like a metal body and maybe give it a UHS-II card slot. Even if it meant charging another $200, I think it would have still sold for $1100 versus the $960 it is, with the heavier body and faster card slot. If you're buying any Z DX camera you should not consider using your existing F-mount glass in general. For the FF cameras, especially the Z6 II and Z7 II with the grip, maybe, because the camera is larger so it balances better, but I wouldn't consider using F-mount DX glass with the Zfc especially (because of the lack of the grip so handling might be harder with longer/larger lenses) or the Z50 (the Z50 might be a bit easier because of the grip).
If you eliminate the handling and grip factor from zfc while using the professional nikon DX lenses ; would you still prefer to use this zfc with DX lenses like Nikor DX 17-55mm f/2.8g lens and 85mm 1.4D lens with it.? I own these professional grade DX lenses but want to jump to new technology like mirror less apsc sensor.. btw I’m a professional photographer of weddings, event and bridal photoshoots.. your honest opinions will be very helpful for me. Thanks

How the heck did you get your Zfc so dusty for the time you've had it? LOL! 'probably the fresh-out-the-box static clinging to everything. Hahaha! All kidding aside, thanks for providing us with 'real-world' shots from this new retro Nikon ML. If you were to pick between this camera and the Df, does the Zfc wins hands-down? It'll be great to know your thoughts... Thanks again, Ken!
My videos are shot so much closer and with such high resolution that you can see more crud in the video than is visible in person. This review was shot after shooting it for a month. Thanks!
These samples really look great with such a toy zoom lens. Are they really OOC files? I know you set vivid colors on and saturation 3+. But, images look amazingly sharp.
I have full details at the written review at www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/z/z-fc.htm#sampleimages as an artist I almost always add creative input to what came out of any camera. Thanks!
Why is there still no digital FM with F-Mount? There are millions of Nikkor lenses out there an they want me to buy THIS Z-fc now? Why? I would love to have a camera like the Z-fc for my old Glass without the need of an adapter…
@@KenRockwellTV The zoom range of the 18-140 is very versatile, has more reach, and it is still compact. It depends on what these lenses are used for. For a one lens travel lens I would prefer the 18-140, but the 16-50 is the perfect compact city lens.
Like your ISO series illustrations. Goes to show that despite the super-high settings available on newer cameras in recent years you’re *still* looking at a serious drop in details as you pass ISO 800 just like it was in 2007. Maybe it’s a stop or 2 better, and since pixels are smaller the relative detail loss is a bit less but not as much as one might think.
I’m not choosing those. I shoot in Program and auto ISO. I do set the slowest shutter speed in auto ISO to the slowest speed that gives sharp results in any given situation, and then I’m free to concentrate on my subject as I shoot rather than camera settings. Thanks!
How does this compare to D7500? Due to stock shortage of d7500/d500 I'm having to consider Nikon mirrorless. I intend to use the camera mainly for plane spotting.

@@ademola5803 I don't think you need a backup. Backup cameras were for people going someplace remote for a mission that would fail if the camera did. Cameras don't die on the job anymore, but if you want a spare body just in case, you want a full-frame one so it works the same with all your lenses, which are full frame. As a backup it won't be used much or at all, so the lowest priced FX Nikon is the Z5, which is a superb camera about which people rarely talk. Look at www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/mirrorless/z5.htm Thanks for asking!
I want to switch from D7200 to this, is it worth it? You said not to use the ftz adapter, but I really love my 85mm lense, do I lose my autofocus if I use it on the Z fc?
You lose AF with the 85mm AF ad AF-D (www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/8514AF.htm, www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/85AF.htm etc). You keep AF with the AF-S 85mm (www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/85mm-f18-g.htm and www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/85mm-f14-afs.htm etc). See my website for all the details www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/mirrorless/lenses/ftz.htm FTZ is clumsy, better off just upgrading to Canon as in a few years you'll get tired of the clumsy adapter and wind up buying all new lenses anyway. Most electronic viewfinders I've seen don't leave enough of the frame visible around the image. X-T1, 2, 3, and 4 got it right, but I really prefer Nikon's image files.
Haven’t downloaded your setup for my Z Fc camera yet, maybe that will fix my issue. My SB400 won’t fire. I kinda want one. But COULD buy an FM3a for that sort of money and have something very special that will last a lifetime. Maybe in 2 years second hand when prices drop a bit.
Thanks for going into details (including showing it on video) about the system becoming clumsy if one considers to reuse f-mount DX lenses via the ftz-adapter. Very good review. Q: How would You consider the difference between Nikon D5300 and this camera when it comes to video quality (camera not to be use for vlog or webcam; question is not about autofocus but video quality).

Hey, I see you haven't lost your passion for saturation! LOL. Nice photo samples! Thanks for the great and honest assesment of the Nixon Z fc. Reminds me of the old Nikon F's and Nikkormats. Great job, and looking forward to more of your equipment reviews. One can tell immediately between your real world usage points, and the wannabe review amateurs. I guess one has to start somewhere. Stay well!
How does it compare to the Canon M50 Mark II? Can you please review the Canon M50 II in the future? I’m getting ready to upgrade my D3300 soon. With the Canon you get 8 lenses. With the Nikon’s most of the lenses are quite expensive. What you think? Z50, Zfc, or the M50 Mark II?
For what? I prefer my HASSELBLAD 500 series to either. I see no point in 35mm film; in olden days we used it for sports and action but today we shoot that on digital.
I'd still stick with an R6 Mark II or iPhone. Limited to your to choices, I'd go Rollieflex; I hate grain from 35mm. Hope this helps; film went obsolete about 13 years ago and people who shoot it do so for it's own sake rather than any practical reason - follow your heart. Rollieflex will want to be on a tripod while FM3a will be much more portable. HINT: for film, a LEICA is a better 35mm camera than any SLR as the lenses are so much better. SLRs were for ultra teles and motor drives, which isn't what you're shooting. Still I'd look at the HASSELBLAD system, best the world has ever known and very inexpensive today www.kenrockwell.com/hasselblad/index.htm @@michaelmartinez6899

Easy, just like shooting a rifle, hold still, hold your breath at your most stable part of your breathing cycle, and s-q-u-e-e-z-e the shutter button s-l-o-w-l-y. Most people jab the shutter which leads to lots of blur; gotta do it very slowly and gently.
Z50 for shooting, Zfc for nostalgia or if you prefer its control format or chrome. They shoot the same (maybe the Z50 shoots a little better). The Zfc is just if you prefer its looks, chrome vs. black.
I wish like hell they would produce a full frame, full retro size all metal version that works well with the old AI/AIS lenses. I miss my Nikkormat FT2.
Does the dust all over the camera bother anyone else? It would make it so much easier to get dust on the sensor, especially when it take 3 or 4 tries to put the lens on the camera.
I clean the cameras very carefully before I start shouting these videos. However I shoot in such high resolution at such close distances that you can see every speck much better than you could with the naked eye, thus my videos show everything. If I showed a typical camera this close it would look far worse! Thanks!

I remember how good the metering in the old D700 was. I prefer this overall though, and the new 40mm and 28mm lenses are so good. 👌

I love my FM3a, both electronic and mechanical shutter is an amazing accomplishment. Also dreaming of a full frame Zf.
Don’t forget the Df www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/df.htm
Lovely and stylish camera, I think there will be a Zf full frame camera in near future. And maaaan look at your F mount retro camera arsenal! Love that! Thank you very much for this video.
Thank YOU!
Are you the Simpsons? You predicted the future so perfectly. We have this exact camera now.
Excellent review of this beautiful camera body. Looks similar like the Nikon Df but with more modern technology inside.

best review of the Z Fc i’ve watched so far
Thanks; I just try to tell it like it is.
Looks like a good little camera for travel or street photography. That sensor is more durable than your shutter blades.
Thanks. I love it!!
Amazing review, straight to the point clear and concise information from a real photographer. Many thanks, Ken!
THANK YOU!!!!! I try to help, but it's hard when people are used to fluff rather than real experience talking. THANKS!!!!
Z30 May be nice though not sure about it 😣
Z30 has no finder.
this is an awesome review, I would be definitely looking to try this cool looking Z fc
Fun to shoot. Thanks!
Very nice review and I agree so much with you, it is a take anywhere camera to just enjoy photography. So light, sharp and proves you don’t always have to carry around the heavy kit.
That’s right! Thanks!
That EVF is very dusty lol! I bought the 16-50 kit with my Zfc, just thinking about picking up the 28mm SE as well?
Yes, the kit lens is unusually perfect for this camera. I have the black 16-50 from my Z50; you’ll get a silver one that matches better. thanks!
TY!
Thank YOU!!! Picture controls are art; use what looks right to you.
Look at Canon. They’re best for full frame Mirrorless today.
Yes, it’s all about the fun. Thanks!
Another great review!
However, it did bring up a curiosity question about you Ken: With so many cameras in your collection, when you go on a family vacation which camera/lens is likely to be your first go to?

The Zfc can use old lenses, but not very well. Stick to the 16-50 and 50-250 for best results they don’t get Klunky.
@@KenRockwellTV thanks! I guess I’m going with the D750, then, after reading your blog. Thanks again :)
Love my Df... traded off my other Nikons (7, 7II,etc.)

Great review. Thank you, Ken!
Thanks!
The only complaint that I read over and over again, is that there is a lack of lens for this aps-c model....
Yes and no. There is no native ultra-ultra wide for APS-C DX, and otherwise the Z 16-50 DX and Z 50-250 DX are perfect and the only two lenses you need with this. Thanks!
I have been following your work for at least 10 years. This is a great review.
Thank you!!!
Yes!! Good times, thanks!!!
I think I've finally found the camera to replace my Sony A65. Since Sony seems to have abandoned the A-mount, it would seem to be a perfect time to jump architectures. I wanted to get the Sony a7C, but it's a little too much, and none of the Canons seem to interest me.
The Zfc is a great little camera. Be sure to get the tiny 16-50mm lens with it. Thanks!
Nikons JPGs are superb; it’s all I shoot and the source of all the sample photos you see. Thanks!
The Nikon FM3A of 2001-2006 is one of the rare examples of old film cameras that its introductory price is the same of used ones many many years laters. Of course there is a reason for that and is called RUclips.
Thanks! I was having that effect on photo gear prices long before youtube was created. It even has a name: The Rockwell Effect.
What a great video - really enjoyed the content, sample pics etc.
Thanks! That’s what I’m going for.
A great review Ken.
I am deciding whether to get a Z50 or a ZFC (I have a D5500 right now)
I know pros don't use on camera flash, but if I got the Zfc as an all round camera, how would you take photos at night in a restaurant or at a party without flash?
Would you wind up the ISO or use an off camera flash or LED etc.
Or just take a dark photo
We all use on-camera flash for daylight fill.
Thanks!
Why is there still no digital FM with F-Mount? There are millions of Nikkor lenses out there an they want me to buy THIS Z-fc now? Why? I would love to have a camera like the Z-fc for my old Glass without the need of an adapter…
There is. It’s called the Nikon Df www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/df.htm
Like your review! But why did Nikon not style it as an S2? / Ulf
Loss of face. Like the LEICA R series, the S series was a terrible failure best forgotten. Nikons 35mm SLRs ruled the 1960s, 70s and 80s.
The Nikon Z 18-140mm lens is also an excellent lens for the Z50 and Zfc.
Yes, but why bother? The 16-50 is so perfect.
Always been this way. Always will. Thanks!
Can you explain a little why you’re choosing these specific shutter speeds in each pic?
I’m not choosing those. I shoot in Program and auto ISO. I do set the slowest shutter speed in auto ISO to the slowest speed that gives sharp results in any given situation, and then I’m free to concentrate on my subject as I shoot rather than camera settings. Thanks!
How does this compare to D7500? Due to stock shortage of d7500/d500 I'm having to consider Nikon mirrorless. I intend to use the camera mainly for plane spotting.
Totally diffeeent cameras. The Zfc has much slower focus
I have a nikon Z6 for weddings.
Can I use this camera as a back up camera.
Of course, but the Z50 is more similar in controls - but the DX cameras are a different format and need different lenses to do the same thing
@@KenRockwellTV I use Z mount 14-30mm F4, nikon Z 35mm 1.8, nikon, nikon F mount 85mm f1. 8g, a nikon 50mm f1. 8g, nikon 105mm f2.8g micro, and a sigma 70-200mm f2.8.
As a godfather of photography What do you think?
@@ademola5803 I don't think you need a backup. Backup cameras were for people going someplace remote for a mission that would fail if the camera did. Cameras don't die on the job anymore, but if you want a spare body just in case, you want a full-frame one so it works the same with all your lenses, which are full frame. As a backup it won't be used much or at all, so the lowest priced FX Nikon is the Z5, which is a superb camera about which people rarely talk. R10 all the way! While not only is the camera itself better, Canon is a much better system and company overall when you look at the entire system rather than just the body. Canon Is what I prefer to shoot. Thanks!
RP is old and replaced by the newer R8. I’d skip full frame unless you prefer soft backgrounds.
How’s the viewfinder for someone who wears glasses? I loved my F3 HP and currently shoot with the Df, whose finder is almost as good.

Being a Fuji owner, I have to admit this camera has me intrigued. Nikon needs to release more native APS-C lenses for this camera though.
Yes, more lenses would be nice, but the two it has are all you need, save for an ultra ultrawide zoom. Nikon hit it just right.
I never use any of those for video; I prefer my iPhone so I don’t know. Alternatively I’d use a dedicated video camcorder for video.

Hi. Which do you prefer; a Rolleiflex or the Nikon Fm3a?
For what? I prefer my HASSELBLAD 500 series to either. I see no point in 35mm film; in olden days we used it for sports and action but today we shoot that on digital.
@@KenRockwellTV portraits and abstract photography.
It draws about 3.5 ~ 4.5W while operating, depending on what you're doing.
It has very good sleep/wake characteristics, so I leave it on all day with it around my neck while shooting. It sleeps when it needs to, and is awake when I get it to my eye if I tap the shutter as I'm bringing it to my eye.
Bravo!
@@momentsbyron You're welcome; as always check my written reviews for the most detail. RUclips is just for fun, not for facts. You can read the whole written review and get three times as much information in a fraction of the time of watching a video. Thanks!
How.... HOW are you getting steady shots handholding at 1/13 of a second...??
Easy, just like shooting a rifle, hold still, hold your breath at your most stable part of your breathing cycle, and s-q-u-e-e-z-e the shutter button s-l-o-w-l-y. Most people jab the shutter which leads to lots of blur; gotta do it very slowly and gently.
Need f body for fullframe camera
Try this www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/df.htm
Between the z50 vs zfc which camera would you recommend?
Z50 for shooting, Zfc for nostalgia or if you prefer its control format or chrome. They shoot the same (maybe the Z50 shoots a little better). The Zfc is just if you prefer its looks, chrome vs. black.
@@KenRockwellTV thanks 🙏
No inside flash ? That’s why I bought one !
Sorry. Nikon forgot to ask me on this one.
@@KenRockwellTV 😂😂
I wish like hell they would produce a full frame, full retro size all metal version that works well with the old AI/AIS lenses. I miss my Nikkormat FT2.
Nikon does. It is called the Nikon Df www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/df.htm
Also every full frame nikon FX DSLR works great with the manual focus lenses. The Df adds retro looks and additional compatibility with pre-AI lenses.
Can we get a full-frame F3 or FA ?
Yes. It’s called the Df: www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/df.htm
Thanks!
Nice!
Thanks!
Wow. Did Ken Rockwell just admit to liking some non Japanese made metal equipment and praise a "Made in Thailand" plastic fantastic camera and lens?
Maybe he is finally seeing the light, that that is good enough 😊
Hallelujah!
Thanks. A FF model of this style would get me back to Nikon.
I am finished with apsc and no ibis cameras
Thanks!
You have a little dust in the viewfinder, Ken
Yes I do. It’s invisible to the eye, but shown this close as well lit and with such extreme resolution you see it all here. Thanks!
@@KenRockwellTV Haha that's what I assumed. Thank you for the comment and for another great review!
