      Mostly curious about ergonomics. The lower rear dial seems to be near where a thumb would be placed. Does it avoid unintentional bumping to another setting? Also, are the viewfinder optics the same as on the Z50? Thanks for your reviews.

      I think it looks a really nice camera, but the z fc naming i hope they will release a full frame zf in the future! I hope the zf is based on the z6ii internals as i love my z7ii but for this style of camera the files are just two big. A retro body z6ii would be perfect in my opinion… great to see nikon doing so well and this just shows they make lovely cameras! I just wish that this zfc had ibis, as any nikon it will have such beautiful files, and great build quality and ergonomics but it really will miss ibis against other competition…. Come on nikon make a zf, you have all the technology you need to do a spectacular job!

      Sorry if I was misundertood. I have an APS-C camera now, a Nikon D5500.
      I only bought it because as retired person I could not afford full frame.
      I like the idea of the lens focal lengths that I was brought up on when I was younger and had a Nikon ELW. eg 50mm is normal eye view, 24 or 28 is wide angle, 105 is a great portrait length and 200 is telephoto and 600 for birds etc.
      With my APS-C camera I have to mentally translate my lenses back to FF.
      And I was also noting the fact that as a "photographer" I have different needs (I like a big camera in my hands) to my girlfried who wants a vlogging camera (smaller and lighter with a flippy out screen)

    Great review, thank you! The firmware BETTER make it to the Z50 ASAP. The other reason the 3x3 is better is because it doesn't block the center area for checking focus! The flippy screen should have been on the Z50! I'd still chose the Z50 over this paper weight for the flash and critical front function button alone. The dials don't solve any problems I've had changing settings with a Z. Also needs to share the EN-EL15 (which has aftermarket options) with the other Z's.
    Nikon needs to bring back the multi-function AF/M button/switch. They also need to integrate arca-swiss bevels into the body so that you don't need an bracket or L bracket. Nikon also needs an updated led lighting system for the Z's. Not only that, but the Z50 looks more compact, and less likely to get dirt/dust/moisture in those dials.
    Can't wait for the compact lens reviews! As far as autofocus goes AF-C is nervous on Z's. Getting better slowly.

    I agree about a FX version. I almost jumped on this one, still thinking about it tho but a few things are keeping not clicking the "buy" button;
    *The Z7 II will do a similar Megapixel DX crop if I ever need.
    * Being that this was the camera I was waiting for 10 years ago that never came which drove me to Fuji, I now have a lot of Fuji X gear {that I am selling) but Now I decided that APS-C is going to be dedicated to a daily pocket camera, perhaps the Ricoh GRIII.
    Everything else I am going all in with the FX Z system... trying to minimize my camera gear these days.
    *If Nikon listens to everyone (which I hope they do) wanting a FX version, I believe they will make it. I think it will be mid 2022 if they do and I actually hope it will be a Z5 in a Z fc body with maybe the Nikon FE prism shape to differentiate from the Z fc. The non BSI with IBIS could keep the price down I think and PLEASE dual SD cards.... I'll be the first in line!

    As usual, I enjoy your videos, it looks like you used a tilt shift lens on some of the close-ups of the camera. I recently bought a tilt shift adaptor on eBay and I’m looking forward to doing this kind of photography. With mirrorless it opens up a lot of opportunities that aren’t available with your DSLRs because of the short Back focus found on these cameras. Nikon being the shortest of all of them which allows for a lot of adaptation. Again, thanks for your video and I hope to get a black version of this camera eventually. I recently sold my FE FA and old Nikkormat and bought some old glass from some classic cameras to use on my Z5. It’s brought new life to my photography having something new to shoot with. Also, yes I would love to see an AF test against Z50 and Z6II to see if Z50 can be upgraded to be better than it currently is, and to understand how much further Nikon should be able to push Z6II - if Z6II is not better (or much better) than Z fc then one would assume there is still a LOT of head room in the second processor that needs to be tapped :)

      @baronsilverton6504 3 года назад +1

      @@evgenykyselgov9533 I didn't see that- looked about the same, but either way it should mean that Z6II should have a lot more room for improvement as it has two Expeed 6 processors - one dedicated largely to AF whereas the Zfc has only one Expeed 6 just like Z50, Z5, Z6, Z7.
      This being the case, Nikon should be able to give firmware updates to all of those (Z50, Z5, Z6, Z7) to make them on par with Zfc - meaning adding wide area large eye detect AF, Animal AF, and improved tracking and acquisition of eyes from a farther distance. Nikon was riding on the idea that these improvements were outside the scope of the single Expeed 6 processor, but now they have shown us that is not the case, so unless they are screwing all the users of 4 models of their Z cameras they should immediately update these cameras to match Zfc - if they don't, this is the kind of behavior that loses customer loyalty and adds to attrition to other brands.
      Also, since all these AF improvements are possible with only one Expeed 6 processor then we have a right to expect significant improvement in Z6/7II - better than firmware 1.2 as all of the AF improvements seen so far (as of version 1.2) are apparently fully possible with one processor - as such what did we get for buying the camera with two processors??? If we are getting no advantage - yes more buffer - but better AF is the main reason most event and portrait shooters get the Z6/7II and now we know definitively that Nikon can do everything that they have so far done with Generation II in a Generation 1 type camera - this is very disappointing unless we see more significant upgrades to the Z6II and Z7II.
      Come on Nikon - get it together please.

    6:22 - When you said "one of the things that is a first for a Z-series camera..." and then flipped out that dark back lid, my first thought was, "Holy shit, film?!?" On a Z Camera? Now, that would be a first, alright! LOL. 🤣 I swear to God, Ricci, my mind immediately went back to the old days when you'd open the back of the camera to insert or remove a film roll. The way you said it, and how you pulled that screen out, it looked like you were doing just that. Lol. But no, it was really just the flip-out screen. 😂
    On another note, one of the things I loved about my old D5300 was precisely the fully articulated screen. This may sound silly, but even while using the D850, I still kinda missed it. I use a Z7 today, and I love it as is, but a fully articulated flip-out screen is just so nice. I understand some people don't like it, but I would love to have it back on, say, a Z8. It even provides great protection when you flip it so you have the display inwards, and the hard back outwards.

    Hi, after my Z6 I now got myself the Z50, reason over the Zf is that it has 2 customizable Fn buttons. Also delved deply into my P7100 menu as I haven't used that camera for a while. This is a 2011 model camera. Looking at that autofocus system, the way it's set up and what it can do it looks like Nikon have not done a great deal to improve on that, at least up to Z6 and Z50. Having already had that in 2011 they could have come out blazing with the Z cameras!

    This looks like a sweet little camera at a great price. Many people will compare it with Fuji, and there is some logic to that, but this is a Nikon and for many people that will count for a lot. Incidentally, I never realised that my Z6 and Z7 had a 4x4 grid, as I had never used it. It does seem a bit less useful that a 3x3 grid, but having both is a great feature. All my other cameras (Pentax and Leica) have 3x3 grid options available, so I didn't give it much thought,

    I have a Z6ii which I went to from a Z7 to get the second card slot and because I never have a need for 45+ MP. I LOVE the "look" and design of this camera, and if I get one it will be to replace my Z50, my "walk around/weekend camera" as you so accurately described. So I'm disappointed, a little, that it still retains the one card slot only design, and I do like the large GRIP on my other Z cameras. But boy... the nostalgic look of this beauty is really appealing. Hmmm... guess I'll slap my Z50 body on eBay and see what it will bring as autofocus is a BIG deal to me and I'd love to improve that over my Z50. Wish me luck. Great video (something I never shoot, by the way).... Thank you!

    If this has better AF than Z50 and it also incorporates the Wide Area Large Eye Detect mode etc. and it has only one Expeed 6 processor like Z50, Z6, Z7 then why can't Nikon put out firmware to make the Z50, Z6 and Z7 utilize the Wide Area Large Eye Detect etc.? Oh and the "tighter" tracking of the eye detect box in the view finder and video eye AF etc.???
    Originally Nikon intimated that they could not incorporate these changes into Z50, Z6 and Z7 because they didn't have the second processor that Z6II and Z7II have, but clearly this camera proves that argument is not the case.
    Thus, I would hope to see firmware updates soon to Z50, Z6 and Z7 to incorporate these AF advancements - likewise, since Nikon sold us on Z6II and Z7II that they would be so much better due to the second Expeed 6 processor, I would now expect to see further firmware updates to those cameras that clearly break their AF performance away from the pack in ways that any of the one Expeed 6 processor cameras cannot follow.
    For now it seems that all of the advancements have been software related and that one Expeed 6 can handle them - come on Nikon give the best you can to all your cameras - update Z50, Z6 and Z7 to the new standard and push Z6II and Z7II to new heights - this is how you build brand loyalty and get devoted users that stay with you for a lifetime.
    No more missed opportunities to shine...

      This got me thinking as well. I came up
      with two possible explainations for that. Either Nikon massively improved their software or they pulled a Sony on the EXPEED6 and moved it to a smaller production node (like Sony did with the BIONZ X).

    • @baronsilverton6504
      @baronsilverton6504 3 года назад

      @@romanpul Hi Roman - if its improved software, then give it to the Z50, 5, 6, and 7. Not sure I even understand your second option, "or they pulled a Sony on the EXPEED6 and moved it to a smaller production node (like Sony did with the BIONZ X)" - please explain :)

    • @romanpul
      @romanpul 3 года назад

      @@baronsilverton6504 It has to do with the lithography process which is used to make the processor (this 14nm and 7nm stuff you hear when people are talking about intel or AMD CPUs). It describes how small the transistors on the processor are. The smaller they are, the less power the processor needs to run, or when you let it consume as much power as before it can output much more performance. Sony did this when they introduced the A9. Instead of designing a new processor, they took their existing BIONZ X and moved it from 45nm to 14nm, which made it 80% more powerful. Nikon’s EXPEED6 is currently made on 28nm. If they‘ve moved it to 14nm as well, it would be around 20% faster than before, because it can run at higher clockspeeds. This is also more effective than using dual processors, since it decreases the need to optimize software for multithreading. Of course I‘m just wild guessing here, but I have kind of a hard time believing that those gains are only achieved from software optimizations

    I wouldn't say this camera is a big step up from the Z50. In fact there are still benefits to Z50 like more fn buttons, custom U1 and U2 modes, all buttons are on the right side for one hand use, better grip suitable for longer lenses. They just have different purposes.

    I really like the look of this camera and some of the tweaks Nikon have made to Z system cameras in general since the first models. I currently use an original Z6 for landscapes and astro (hey Nikon, please give your early adopters extended exposures in a firmware update!) and occasionally shoot with an FM2n for personal photography. Even though I don't have much use for a crop body (I'm actually more in need of a fast full-frame ultrawide prime, like a Nikkor Z 14mm 1.8S), I can imagine in a few years picking up a Z f as a main body and converting my Z 6 to full spectrum for dedicated astro work.

Looking at just how small Sony got their 14mm f1.8 GM compared with the Sigma 14mm Art I wonder how far Nikon could push the envelope at the ultrawide end with the geometry of the Z mount.
