Great tutorial. I have been using CHDK for my powershots for years. I upgraded to a Canon DSLR a little over a year ago. This answered some questions I still had before trying it on my DSLR.
Toby, would be fantastic if you could produce a guide for magic lantern similar to the guides you made for the T4i/650d.
For people wondering, there is a hack for Nikon as well, if you google Nikon Hacker. It mostly works on slightly older cameras (D3100-3300/D5100&5200/D7000 and so on) and allows you to get up to 64mbps in video and also manual exposure for the Nikon D3100 among other things
can you tell me how to get the audio option onto the ML menu?
Why didn't you explain how to format sd card and keep ML? All you said was that it could be done.
It showed on green. You have to press Q or something as far as I could see

hi, friend,. I'm desperate to find a magic lantern for my M6 MARK II do you know where I can get the software for my camera for the M6 MARKII?
Just to clarify one thing. Formatting the SD card and removing it doesn't mean ML is completely erase - the bootflag is still in the camera. The bootflag can be removed but there is another step to do.

PhotoRec Toby Absolutely not. You have to go back to firmware update and and re-install ML. When ML is installed successfully, you have the choice to restart the camera to activate the ML or leaving it for 30 seconds before the boot-flag is completely removed from the camera. Then format the memory card with ML on it to complete the whole procedure.
Seems odd that Canon won't add similar expanded features in their own firmware updates. All I want is timelapse and repeated auto shooting functionality on my t6i and 60D. I guess that would affect Canon's intervalometer sales.

Hi, I'm a beginner amateur photographer and offered to take free engagement pictures for my cousin. We're planning on shooting in a sunrise/early morning beach setting. Nicely done. ML use to void Canon's US warranty. Not sure if it still does but I think your viewers ought to be warned in case it does. Perhaps, ML writes something somewhere where Canon can see that it had been installed?
Frank White I made this notice on the web page and below the video. It does not leave any lasting indication that I know of, though there is always the chance that your camera could suffer something catastrophic and if you sent it in without getting a chance to pull the card and restart the camera they may be tipped off. I have sent a camera, my 5D Mark III in for repair (unrelated to ML) and they didn't say anything. Thanks!

TIP: Anyone who wants to get Magic Lantern needs to download canon firmware 1.1.4 because Magic Lantern is still at 1.1.4
If you already dowloaded or have the latest version on canon firmware which is 1.1.5 then u need to delete this version first, then download 1.1.4 canon firmware, then lastly download Magic Lantern 1.1.4 to be able to use it.

because it says "incorrect firmawere version." and "please reinstalll Canon firmware 114. even if you already have this version" how can I do it?
Not anymore. lol Canon firmware ver 1.1.5 has been out since Dec. So the rule is update your firmware to what ever ver of ML is available. Pretty simple. The website tells you the ver of the firmware you need to match the ver of ML. Need help message me
I have some reports from Photography friends who say that they had continuous problems after they used Magic Lantern features in their Canon EOS APS-C cameras, and occured to them in the most unexpected moment and manner while shooting photos.

Just want to point this out to anyone trying to find the 4th wrench and it's not showing up: Make sure you are in "P" mode on your camera and all your menu options should be available.

Does anyone know a way to get this now because Canon only offers the 1.1.5 firmware now, while Magic Lantern only offers their firmware for 1.1.4. Basically, right now my camera has 1.1.3 and I need 1.1.4 to get Magic Lantern because that's the only one they offer at the moment, but Canon only offers 1.1.5 on their website, therefore it appears that it's impossible to get the two firmwares to match. Any help appreciated!
Don't just update to the current firmware. Make sure that the firmware is the firmware version that is compatible with magic lantern. I updated to firmware version that was one version newer than what was compatible with ML and had to downgrade to the previous firmware version.

I have an issue, after i format the SD Card on my Canon 55Od and put it in my mini mac. The card is read only and won't let me put the files onto the card. The card will only be writeable if i format it on Disk Utility on my mac.

Yeah should have thought that yours wouldn't work as you've had it a while. Mine should work but I got it for xmas and don't wont to risk it, though I expect it would be fine.

Thank you. I must have spent 6 hours trying to download this simple software. That's what I get for wandering through RUclips listening to people who've downloaded it for the first time. The problem was that no one said to copy all three files to the SD card. I understood to only copy the ML file to the SD card. So, thank you for making this so uncomplicated.

I noticed the same thing on the screen of your T5i in the video - my ML menu doesn't have anything for audio... I've tried two different nightly builds. Am I missing something? I appreciate any help.
at 5:13 I restarted the camera when the timer went to 0 seconds and the uninstallation process was started. Is that bad? It seems like ML is working, but I don't know what was uninstalled. I hate this automatic uninstallation thing. I just didn't pay attention for half a minute and bam this shit happens^^

I have a T5i with ML installed. I've been trying to use the rack focus to no avail. I set the end point and try to set the next point and no matter which way I go with the L/R arrows the focus doesn't change. I was wondering if you have any suggestion on the proper way to use the rack focus feature properly.

When shooting Raw video with the T5i Can you also record audio? I know when I first heard of Magic Lantern you couldn't but recently I have been receiving yes/no answers. Do you know?
I'm not a ML user until now though I'd like to use it years ago. Honestly, I'm not much literate on these kind of softwares, I'm rather concern about safety of my camera as I'm poor to replace, in case of crash, with another camera as I wish.
I'd like to raise a question about how could we save to repeat the installation process of ML every time the first memory card was removed when it's full. Suppose we were taking a series of scenes of either documentary or movie, reinstalling ML every time a memory card is full could be a very impractical. Please share your opinion, sir.
U Nyunt Shwe YOu do need to do the install process on the other cards in anticipation of using those when the original fills.

+U Nyunt Shwe Suggest using a memory card with larger capacity. Presently using 128GB San Disk with no problems other than where to archive all those files.

I shoot mostly video with my T5i, very few pictures and because I'm a one man show and have bad vision I record in Auto 99% of the time. I did however just start using the P mode for videos. Would you recommend the Magic Lantern software for someone like myself that just shoots in Auto or P mode for video? Will it make the video any better in any way? Thank you!

I have a question maybe you can assist me, I just downloaded Magic Lantern for my 5D MKII firmware ver. 2.1.2 I am as you can tell a novice, my LCD keeps getting dark then goes back to normal again, I know it's probably a setting I have missed or my exposure settings, it happens on Manual mode or Program or any variation of auto exposure, the LCD gets dark then few seconds latter it's back to normal.
Does this void the camera's warranty?
Technically yes, if you sent the camera in with the SD Card in and ML loaded they could refuse to work on it BUT you take the SD card out and turn it on/off there are no real signs that ML was ever on the camera and I personally have sent into Canon without issue.
Anyone running this on a T6i/760D ?
There isn't a firmware hack for the T6i yet. Running the wrong firmware will blow up your camera.

do you know if there is a way to have the output on ml to be 1080p? since canon outputs their hdmi to 1080i by default and my field monitor works best with 1080p, i didnt know if there was a way to change that output signal? any solutions come to mind? i am currently using a t5i

PDAI PRODUCTIONS I am not sure - I hear mixed reports about Magic Lantern and the SL1, Best thing to do is spend some time on the ML forums.
If I install magic lantern on another card will have to go through all the steps as in the first time i.e. update the firmware and restart the camera or can I just put the card in and its all good to go? Ive installed magic lantern on my t3i but the card is running out of space so i have to use aother card swell, thank you! :)

Can I just ask you about the 70D, only my center focus point is not focusing properly. With micro focus adjustments I adjust all of them. Is there a way to correct this via service or something else?
Yes, I had to send mine in, a couple of times, and they fixed it.

I'm pretty sure you need a bigger space of sd card. It happens the same thing on me but when i change the sd card to a bigger space it can now record for 15 minutes.
