Welcome to my new Gospel Hymn RUclips Series entitled "Sunday Hymn Serenade"! I’m so excited to launch this series that will feature my take on some of the all-time-greatest and classic Christian hymns like “Amazing Grace”! I so enjoyed recording this song where I play piano, violin, organ, and sing! I love hymns so much (I even wrote a song on my album called “Bring Back The Hymns" and you can get it at the link below!) and am looking forward to bringing you many more of these videos! Im Irish and not many people here will talk openly about a Living God .Amazing grace is special for me as i had a near death spiritual awakening in 1987 ,that day changed me from doubter to believeing in God and his ineffiable Mercy and Love ,Though i am still a sinner ,my heart is changed for ever .I rember wondering why a captain of a slave trader ship would suddenly come to know God and his compassion .So much that he became a pastor and through his high ranking relatives in Britian ,set about the abolishment of slavery .It was only 3 years ago that i learned that his conversion happened in his ship which was caught in a severe storm off the coast of Ireland Near County Donegal. His name was John Newton and he wrote This beautiful hymn .So here we wind up, you are talented , and i play violin too hymn's and slow airs .I love your singing voice and ,best wishes from Ireland.

He became a curate in Olney, which is in Buckinghamshire close to both Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire, which means I have to go through there on my way to my bank in Northampton. (There have been banks in Gold Street, Northampton, ever since King John gave Parliament a nasty shock by moving the Treasury to Northampton. Parliament swiftly followed the money North from London!) Anyway, living in Olney, John Henry Newton not only wrote this hymn, but he invented the pet flap. Not for a cat, as it happens, but for a pet hare called "Old Puss" (common country name for hares in this part of the world, actually.) Stephen Fry, who makes a big show of being a brainier person than any of his TV guests, once stated on TV that the cat-flap was invented by Sir Isaac Newton: it was not Isaac, who merely described gravity, but John Henry who invented the pet-flap. Anyone who has seen a hare bowling across a field towards them at speed, will understand his thinking here.

I am not a christian and almost surely never will be, but that does not prevent me from appreciating the beauty of this performance and the wonderful talents of this young woman.
This song was written in the 18th century by a slave trader who became a Christian. A testament to God's love and mercy. Never say never, just keep your heart open.

John Newton was a captain of a slave ship when God called him to write this song. He forsook the life he was leading and took to leading the way to abolish slavery. God can change the vilest of us - Praise Him! When we are open to hearing His voice He can give us a life of victory thru Christ.

I disagree for I studied hymns and the writers and books they printed back to 1800's and one woman hymnist had Amazing Grace in her hymn book she wrote word for word long before John Newton was born. He claimed he did and stole it from her cause she died soon after and history suppressed this fact.
