Not even a mention of "How can a man be brave if he is afraid?" "That is the only time a man can be brave." It says so much about Ned and Robb's character.
Eh, while true and in character, that's such a cliche line and sentiment. Hard to make a best line list when it's the moral lesson in every other children's story and fortune cookie
"I'm not questioning your honor, Lord Janos. I'm denying it's existence" remains one of my favourite lines in the entire show. It may not be the best line per se but it's just such a witty insult.
Aemon is the most underrated character imo, literally every scene is proper insightful and he always drops bangers, and it makes it all the more better when u realise he turned down the iron throne and could’ve still been sitting on it
This entire video could just be "The 20 Greatest Lines By Bronn Alone in Game of Thrones" because he has so many... Jaime: "We can't defeat her, we can't defeat 3 dragons. I've got to tell Cersei." Bronn: "You might as well jump right back in that lake."
Neds line in the prison is always great “you grew up with actors, you learned their craft and you learnt it well. I grew up with soldier, I learned how to die a long time ago”
My favorite quotes are for some reason two from maester Aemon: “What is honour compared to a woman’s love? And what is duty against the feeling of a newborn son in your arms? Or a brother’s smile?” And also his last words on his death bed “Egg? I dreamed that I was old” I don’t know why but that one always gets me. And not to forget Davos when he confronted Melisandre: “I loved that girl like she was my own! She was good! She was kind! And you killed her!” Breaks my heart ever time
Little bit of data on the rankings: Robert Baratheon - 1 Stannis Baratheon - 1 Tyrion Lannister - 4 Orlenna Tyrell - 1 Cersei Lannister - 2 Aemon Targaryen - 2 Ser Bronn of the blackwater - 1 Tywin Lannister - 2 Pyter Baelish - 2 Syrio Forel - 1 Sandor Clegene - 1 Varys the ball-less bald bad boy - 2 Lannister lines - 8 Kings landing lines - 14 Season 1 - 7 Season 2 - 4 Season 3 - 6 Season 4 - 3 Season 5 - 0 Season 6 - 0 Season 7 - 0 Season 8 - 0
I really liked the quote between Varys and Ned where he said “you grew up with actors, you learned their craft and you learned it well. But I grew up with soldiers, I learned how to die a long time ago.”
One of my favorites is from a deleted scene of Tywin with Grand Maester Pycelle. Tywin gets annoyed with Pycelles stuttering and blubbering and calls him out saying he knows it’s an act and to stop. Pycelle then drops the act and stands up straight and speaks clearly and firmly. Tywin asks why he does the act and I like his line “So many flowers my Lord, each wanting to grow the tallest, bloom the brightest. And one by one sooner or later they all get plucked. I don’t want to be the tallest or the brightest, I only want to remain in the garden until my time comes to return to the dirt” It’s actually pretty spot on with how quite a few characters tried to show their worth or seize power, only to die a young death. While people like Pycelle lived a long life. In Japan there is a similar phrase “the nail that sticks out gets hammered”
Amazing line and analysis, but that phrase in Japan means a totally different thing. It’s basically commentary on their collectivist society views compared to western nations individualist ones.
I can't believe the Tyrion-Lord Janos interaction wasn't here: "I'm not questioning your honor Lord Janos. I'm denying its existence" Sure its not that fancy from a literary standpoint, but its an excellently crafted insult that sounds all the more ironic to the polite delivery. Plus its hilarious haha.
Varys: Power resides where men believe it resides. It's a trick. A shadow on the wall. And a very small man can cast a very large shadow. Tyrion: Perhaps you should speak to me more softly then. Monsters are dangerous and just now, kings are dying like flies Stannis: We march to Victory. Or we march to defeat. But we go forward. Only forward.
One of my favourites from the later seasons: Jaime Lannister - "There are always lessons in failures" Olenna Tyrell - "Yes, you must be very wise by now." The Queen of thorns spoke her mind, and her mind spoke thorns.
Lmao he is leading the army and he is the prime target of enemy. He put his life in that not like joffrey. Are those 2 comments above me even watch the show?
This kind of thinking only works when, to stannis' credit, you are the first one up the wall. Same deal with Erwin smith. The lines hit different between the front and back lines
I love Cercei and Littlefinger's "power is power" lines. It perfectly encapsulates their two different mentalities, while making Cercei a menacing villain, as well as a miopic character who's way less cunning than she thinks. It gets even better when you know that Littlefinger was plotting against her and Joffrey the whole time.
No. 1 for me would be Littlefinger's quote, "Fight every battle, always, in your mind. Everyone is your enemy, everyone is your friend. Every possible series of events is happening all at once. Live that way and nothing will surprised. Everything that happens will be something you have already seen before."
This line loses all its credibility due to the fact that Littlefinger (one of the smartest characters in the show) got outsmarted by Arya and Sansa. And it wasn't even a particularly clever plan by them. In fact it was fairly predictable that they were pretending to be at odds with each other when in fact they were just trying to play Baelish. Not to mention the whole giving the dagger to Bran thing which was just unbelievably stupid. Such a shame considering Baelish is probably one of my top 8 characters and his dialogue is usually so powerful and riveting.
"Cersei understands the consequences of her absence, and she's absent anyway, which means she does not intend to suffer those consequences. The trial can wait. We all need to leave." I feel like Margaerys final lines are some of the best, they show how intelligent she is and how ruthless and evil Cersei is.
And that turn where she drops the "good girl" act and catches the High Sparrow off guard is such a good character moment in general, regardless of the dialogue.
And it shows how stupid Cersei is as well… this was a bad move on her part, seemingly getting rid of all her enemies looked good at the time but really this made unneeded enemies and on top of that she declared war on Dorne and on the Tyrells- a war that wasn’t needed and I haven’t finished the series yet, I just got finished with season six and maybe she’ll win those wars! But it was seemingly all for nothing because I know Daenerys is coming over with SHIPS and DRAGONS. Cersei couldn’t win then.
@@V1nce_man To be honest I dont think there really is any point in discussing it. We all know that the sept explosion should have had actual consequences, meanwhile the only consequence cersei got was being crowned. The actual scene and build up was very well done but the writing on the other hand? Yeeeah

also "it's hard to put a leash on a dog, once you've put a crown on its head" should be here, because it foreshadows cerseis loss of control over joffrey, but #2 is pretty good too
One that I've always found to be very underrated is when Robert talks to Cersei about Lyanna. "I can't even remember what she looked like. I only know she was the one thing I ever wanted. Someone took her away from me, and seven kingdoms couldn't fill the hole she left behind" It's a moment that always touches me and enriches Robert's character so much
Joffrey: A king doesn't discuss battle plans with stupid girls Sansa: I'm sorry, Your Grace, I'm stupid, of course you'll be in the vanguard. They say my brother Robb always goes where the fighting's thickest...and he's only a pretender. Even Sansa had some great dialogue, that would have set her up to be a cunning political player, that I would have loved to have seen from her in later seasons.
My favourite is from Robb 'I sent 2000 men to their graves today' 'The bards will sing songs of their sacrifice' 'Aye, but the dead wont hear them' Simple yet so powerful, makes you remember that everytime one of these lords or ladies makes a move in their 'game' thousands of lives are being lost.
"Chaos is a ladder" is a phenomenal line and when Littlefinger tells Tywin a variation of this, he just looks at him and says, "you say that like you were the first man to think it" essentially him saying you're not as smart as you think you are 😂
"A moment of chaos affords opportunities lost soon after" Tywin: no shit pal Tywin was running Westeros as the Hand while Littlefinger was still thirsting for Catelyn as a ward. A perfect example of this is when Joffrey gets murdered, and Tywin uses the situation to get Jaime back as his heir, get into the ear of Tommen, and get Tyrion out of his way. Well almost, before the whole crossbow thing
Oberyn’s scene with Tyrion in the cell, capped off by one of my favorite lines “That’s not a monster, I told Cersei. That’s a baby” is far and away one of my favorites
@@Ballin4Vengeance dwarfism present early in the size of the head compared to the body and the length of arms and legs. It’s pretty clear in human babies
Best chad line : "This is the right time and I will risk everything, because if I don’t we’ve lost. We march to victory, or we march to defeat, but we go forward, only forward." - The Goddamn Mannis
The convo between Robert and Cersei in the bedroom is so good. I’ve RUclipsd it way too many times. “You wanna know the horrible truth? I can’t even remember what she looked like. All I know is…she was the one thing I ever wanted. *And seven kingdoms couldn’t fill the hole she left behind* .”
Yeah, that would be my #1 line, judging lines independently like this video did. While it is a personal line, there is quite the heavy subtext. Also nicely mirrors the story the Night's Watch recruiter tells Arya. Futility of revenge is quite the central theme in the show.
The lines you chose were very good. For me my most favorite line was when "little finger" told Cersi; "KNOWLEDGE IS POWER" and Cersi replied after a little demonstration of power by saying "POWER IS POWER". I soo love that scene.
The irony in this line is that Littlefinger actually heeds that warning and focuses on accumulating power in later seasons and then ... he gets killed by knowledge when the Starks find out he was the reason Ned died.
"Never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor and it can never be used to hurt you." As a man with disabilities, I found this quote having the biggest impact on me throughout the series. I still remember it whenever hard times come and people discriminate me on the basis of my condition.
One of my favourites is actually from Pycelle. ‘A man goes through life with his battle visor down, he is often blind to the enemies at his side’ maybe people will disagree but it sums up why Ned and Robert died so early on in the show, they were men of war and not politics.
"Your joy will turn to ashes in your mouth, and you will know the debt is paid." I probably my favorite line in the whole show. I will never forget how chilling it was to hear Tyrion say that, and how in that moment it didn't feel like a threat but like he was flat-out telling Cersei that it was gonna happen, that she was gonna lose everything no matter what she did. And that's exactly what happened. She loses everything. And Tyrion doesn't even have to do anything to orchestrate it. He's basically telling Cersei that she's already lost while she's in a place where she feels like she has the most power.
I kinda wish you included when Ser Barristan was fired when he says both “even now I can cut through the five of you like carving a cake” and “here boy, melt it down and add it to the others.” It showcases he’s the powerhouse in the room and tells Joffrey “you’re my enemy now.”
This line is even better in the book where he says: "Here, boy. Melt it down and add it to the others, if you like. It will do you more good than the swords in the hands of these five. Perhaps Lord Stannis will chance to sit on it when he takes your throne."
Yeah that entire scene on the walk of punishment is one of my all-time favorites. I think it also has "Is it 'we' already, Ser Barristan?" and "But he was NOT the last dragon." And the scene is actually important, because it represents a fork in the road for Dany, and both knights make good points and counterpoints.
“He who passes the sentence should swing the sword” tells us all we need to know about Ned as a person, sets up Robb and Jon’s beliefs later so that they perform their difficult executions themselves, and is sad in Baelor as Ned is killed by a headsman not the man who ordered his death.
"There are brave men nocking at our door, let's go kill them" tyrion. That's my favorite line in the entire show, espacially the voice acting. I just love it
“Chaos is a ladder” is an IMPECCABLE quote! For those who haven’t read the books, you have NO IDEA how dangerous Little Finger is. He set the war of the Starks and Lannisters in motion and every step of the way gained more power and influence and land while covering himself and making his enemies take each other out.
@@jpas2614 Do you know how to read? In the show he did set the war of the five kings into motion by killing Jon Arryn with Lysa Arryn. The original commentator says that “For those who haven’t read the books” implying that if you hadn’t read the books, you wouldn’t know that that happened, despite it featuring prominently in the show.
@@Polo-wk7zl Again, the book Little Finger and Show Little Finger are not the same character, for example in the book it's heavily implied Little Finger is a faceless man.
@@jpas2614 No, it isn’t. And there’s no point in them including all of that as reasons why littlefinger is so dangerous that “those who haven’t read the books wouldn’t know”, because that’s all also in the show. Are you so dense that you can read something and completely ignore what was said? Also, all of what you said is completely irrelevant to the original comment.
“You think the honorable Ned Stark wanted to hear my side? He judged me guilty the moment he set eyes on me. By what right does the wolf judge the lion? By what right?” This has to be in the top 5 anyone who says otherwise can get cut like Varys
"Incompetence should not be rewarded with blind loyalty. As long as I have my eyes, I will use them". Timeless quote by Lord Varys, so full of wisdom as a warning against every kind of bad leadership made possible by the sheeplike behavior of human beings. Completely applicable to every day life.
My favourite line from the books will always be Sansa's "My skin has turned from porcelain, to ivory, to steel". It perfectly encapsulates the character and I've turned somehow in my motto. XD.
I think “Winter is Coming” has been underrated due its overexposure in merchandise and memes The more I think on it, the more it impresses me with its simple, solemn promise-it is both a warning and a principle regarding how (for example) the politics of King’s Landing is small fry compared to the approaching Armageddon
@@Betrunkenes.Huhn. literally haven't watched the rest of the final season after the Night King dies so pathetically easy after barely doing any damage. Would have been so much better if the Night King actually nearly consumed the world, instead he barely did anything. I think some regular human factions were more of a threat than him, it is so fucking sad man.
To me it worked simply as a reminder of the season of winter, rather than the white walkers, specifically. Sort of like, "Celebrate and enjoy the good times as much as you can, but always keep in mind and be prepared for the inevitable hard times."
A quote I really liked was King Robert in that masterful scene with Cersei when he said “You want to know the horrible truth? I can’t even remember what she looked like.” Gives weight to the term “blinded by rage”, makes it clear he’s not even sure all the blood spilled and consequences in which they now live was worth it.
I think the line “The lion does not concern himself with the opinion of the sheep” is so great, as it contrasts with Tywin’s character. All of Tywin’s time in the show is him trying to solidify his family’s legacy, which means that he does care what masses think of him and his family.
That whole scene was badass (apart from the fact there were 2 dead little boys in the room). The northerners were true warriors. I love when Blackfish (who is huge) punches tf out of Karstark (who is huge) and Karstark lands on his knee and looks up with that smile. “Aye, he’s gonna give me a scoldin’ before he sets me free. That’s how our king in the north deals with treason. Or should I call him…the king who *lost* the north”
Robb had so many. Robb: " I sent a lot of men to their deaths today." Theon: "They will sing songs of their sacrifice." Robb: "And the dead won't hear it."
I think Jamies line when Robert asks him what Aerys Targaryen said in his last moments is quite memorable and gives Jamie a bit of character, other than him being a man who pushes kids out of windows and makes babies with his sister. What did the mad king say when you stabbed him in the back? Did he call you a traitor? Did he plead for a reprieve? He said the same thing he had been saying for hours: "Burn them all".
@@StevenGarcia-im8rr I don't think he was acting. I haven't read the books so I don't know how many people knew how insane the mad king really was. I assume it may not have been well known that he was planning to torch the entire city rather than let it fall to outsiders. The gossip at the time might have been that he killed the king out of cowardice to save himself or had been told to do so by his father when the rebels came knocking down the door. So when Robert asks him about the mad kings death trying to shame Jaime for being a kingslayer and gets this straight face answer, it may have shocked him. He saw all Lannisters as overlyprideful with their blonde hair and smug satisfied faces. He had probably wondered what lead a Lannister to do something so dishonourable as to kill his own king and break his oath. I think that's why he was left speechless. He had never thought that a prideful lion could set aside his pride and stain his honour without any personal gain, just because it was the right thing to do.
That's probably the best piece of dialogue in GOT, that scene is a masterpiece, and the last line is delivered perfectly followed by Robert's eyes that tell all the story.
I know this counts as a moment, but when Brianne says calls Jamie “The Kingslayer” when yelling for help after he was exhausted after giving his speech about why he killed the king and Jamie responds: “Jamie. My name’s Jamie.” It’s just so deep, emotional, and speaks to Jamie’s character even though it’s a short line because he wants to be known for who he is, his true self, not for what people think he is.
Jaime like Tyrion is such interesting characters because they start to behave according to how people view them "the imp" and "kingslayer" even though they are more underneath
Really should’ve included Varys response to Tyrion threatening to have him thrown into the sea. “You might be disappointed with the results. Storms come and go, big fish eat the little fish, and I keep on paddling.”
My personal favourite are the words from Qyburn to Pycelle right before his death: This pains me, my lord. Whatever your faults, you do not deserve to die alone in such a cold, dark place. But sometimes before we can usher in the new, the old must be put to rest.
Commenting this during the criteria; “you may not have my name, but you have my blood” by Ned to Jon is so good knowing now who he truly is. Hopefully it’s on here!
I do also like when the line "love is the death of duty'"gets flipped in the last season when Tyrion tells Jon he must kill Daenerys, by saying "Duty is the death of love"... It just shows the duality of that line and how just as strong it is used either way
An honorable mention: “I learnt that I’ll never win. Not that way. That’s their game, their rules. I’m not going to fight them, I’m going to fuck them. That’s what I know, that’s what I am. And only by admitting what we are can we get what we want” It seems, Littlefinger is one of the few who understand the charade about power said by Varys.
Most definitely. Littlefinger is one of the few people that are really good at playing the game, because they understand the rules at play. And its why Varys "rather enjoys him", he just doesn't like his motives. But he is a proper opponent. Arguably in the books, Littlefinger is using this charade about power even more. In the show most people seem to agree " no one trusts littlefinger". In the books its pretty much the opposite, as George RR Martin puts it "everybody trusts littlefinger". Because he is regarded as having little power, and he tries to play it that way. He is of the lowerst of the low nobility, a brothel keeper, and Master of Coin is actually a position that is regarded as something low and grubby, not a position for a high ranking lord, "a grubby job, so why not let a grubby man do it". So people see him as rather weak, and he doesn't openly show any ambition. Which leads to many people trusting him and telling him stuff, or getting some favor and owing him one in return. He isn''t seen as a thread by most people. Where as Varys has the problem that he is seen as a manipulator and man of ambition or at least some sort of motive. Which can help and hinder him of course.
Tyrion's dialogues from 1-5 seasons can be used for the best dialogues video and his dialogues from the last few seasons can be used for the worst dialogues list lol. Look how they massacred my boy
The actor for Littlefinger did such a great job delivering his lines. One of the best casts in the show...especially considering his forgettable performance as the FBI guy from the Dark Knight Bane movie
Littlefinger is basically the most evil person on the show. He literally started the Game Of Thrones together with Lysa Arryn by what they did to Jon Arryn and making it up as if it was done by the Lannisters.
The war was started for a number of reasons, and the blame cannot be fully put on Littlefinger. 1) The death of Arryn was perhaps helped and orchestrated by Lysa and Littlefinger, but only for a Lannister plot: hiding the knowledge that Joffrey, Tommen and Myrcella are not the legitimate heirs, regardless of if they're born from incest. 2) Catelyn kidnapping Tyrion caused Tywin to act accordingly by burning the riverlands. It's an insult to his house he could not possibly let slide. This effectively caused a war regardless of the events that transpired in King's landing. This kidnapping has everything to do with the attempted murder of Bran, which in turn was done by both Jaime Lannister and whoever send the Cat's paw. (There is still no certainty who did it, and the idea that littlefinger sent it is both unlikely and at the very best still a simple hypothesis with little proof.) There was no way for Littlefinger to know Catelyn would ever kidnap Tyrion, so he can hardly be seen as the instigator here. 3) The already volatile situation of having a King that isn't a Targaeryan, thereby setting the stage for further usurpation, further fueled by already ages old nationalist seperationalist ideals in the north. In truth, a war was just waiting to happen ever since the dragons died out. Really, all Littlefinger ever truly did to start the war was cause the death of Arryn, and only then it seems he simply had short term profit in mind. Everything that followed afterwards were just things that just so happened to be very beneficial to Littlefinger but over which he barely had any control. Littlefinger acts best as a player from the side, working his way ever forward and upwards into the upper echelons of power, by barely having to do anything at all. The people around him are vicious, powerhungry and stupid enough to do all the dirty work of war for him.
@@RedFloyd469 I disagree with you.. In my opinion littlefinger wasn't just lucky, he gained advantages because he was smart to see the possible outcomes by dealing with the winning powers and by always having plan B. Some of his achievements are as follows: -Poisoned Jon arryn. -made the starks believe that the Lannisters were responsible. - tricked Ned stark into treason. -indirectly made the crown be in enormous debt by working with tywin Lannister. -joined the Tyrell and Lannister houses for the battle of blackwater. -persuaded Catelyn to release Jaime. -took sansa away from the Lannisters. -thwarted the tyrell's plan to we'd sansa to loras. -he gained his power by working with the tywin from the begining and most of the achievements of the Lannisters were recommended by littlefinger. After all this man became l Master of coin, lord of harrenhal, lord paramount of the trident, lord protector of the eyrie and the vale starting from scratch this man is the most influential person in the events of game of thrones. His ability to predict events and act accordingly makes him look like he is from the future.throught the first seasons this character is developed so greatly that he became too smart to die even for the directors that they had to kill him in such ridiculous way.
@@RedFloyd469 ok but your second point is a direct result of your first point. Littlefinger made Catelyn believe the Lannisters were behind everything.
its amazing how the lines in this show alone are a quick reminder of how unmatched it truly is. pure poetry. one of my favorite lines is actually in the last season (yeah, I know). I don't remember exactly how it goes, but basically Snow tells Tyrion he never wanted to be king and Tyrion in response tells him that perhaps this is exactly the kind of person who should rule, the rare one who doesn't seek power. I find myself actually thinking about it from time to time. its so relevant to humanity, since the very beginning of our time really. we will always need order in the form of leadership, be it kings, monarchs, politicians... but up until now it has never proved itself to be very helpful. humanity is constantly in chaos. I feel like the men at the top are always the most corrupt, because the system in built in such a way that to get there you must REALLY desire power above all. I can't help but think that the system itself is its own demise, because no one who wants power that badly is fit to rule.
Robert Barration never wanted to be king. He wanted to fight, grab his warhammer and go bash some heads and "party" afterwards with wine and women. He never wanted it but found himself in power and was epically incompetent. Tywin did all the work. Those that are worthy of power don't have the strength to obtain it. Those who have the strength are seldom worthy of power. Unless you are Tyrion Lannister.
My favorite line by far is Robert's reminesence about Lyanna. *"You want to know the horrible truth? I can't even remember what she looked like... I only know she was the one thing I ever needed. Someone took her from me. And 7 Kingdoms couldn't fill the hole she left behind."* The weight of emotional pain behind his words, the acting, the rage and grief and pure, emotional agony he conveys is just heartbreaking. I want to hug Robert and weep.
Seven hells, the lines from the earlier seasons were gold. There’s so many to choose from “By what right, does the wolf judge the lion. By what right!” “A Lannister always pays his / her debts” “If you think this has a happy ending, you haven’t been paying attention” “The man who passes the sentence should swing the sword” “You know nothing, Jon Snow” “Power is power” “A dragon is not a slave” “What the fucks a Lommy?!” “You gonna die for some chickens? Someone is”
Still not as good as "She ... is mah queen" and "I don't want it". Oh and don't forget the one that sums up the last seasons: "Maybe it really is all cocks in the end."
Honestly its a bit of a mindfuk if they seriously wanted to do that to jamie... That would give way to amazing writing. That means what he told Brienne was a lie; potentially what jamie "claimed" the mad king said to him would also be a lie....
Theres one line that always stuck with me, its when cersei and robert are talking about Lyanna Stark, and Cersei asks if there was ever a chance for them, and its just one word. Aemon had so many good quotes and i love the one u picked, however i really really love Maester Aemon’s question to Jon “If your father had to choose between honor on the one hand and those he loves on the other, what do you think he’d do?”
Fun fact: not even Ned Stark could answer this question... in the book, Ned actually thinks about the very same question before he confronts Cercei (with the truth about her bastards) - choosing between his honour and his children - and he is unable to answer himself...
There was a line by Aemon Targaryen which should also be included. Thorne : You always know when a man is telling a lie. How did you acquire this magical power? Aemon : "" I grew up in King's Landing. "".

This definitely should’ve been on the list!
and "it was your mercy that killed the king"
One of my favorites is from a deleted scene of Tywin with Grand Maester Pycelle. Tywin gets annoyed with Pycelles stuttering and blubbering and calls him out saying he knows it’s an act and to stop. Pycelle then drops the act and stands up straight and speaks clearly and firmly. Tywin asks why he does the act and I like his line
“So many flowers my Lord, each wanting to grow the tallest, bloom the brightest. And one by one sooner or later they all get plucked. I don’t want to be the tallest or the brightest, I only want to remain in the garden until my time comes to return to the dirt”
It’s actually pretty spot on with how quite a few characters tried to show their worth or seize power, only to die a young death. While people like Pycelle lived a long life.
In Japan there is a similar phrase “the nail that sticks out gets hammered”
Amazing line and analysis, but that phrase in Japan means a totally different thing. It’s basically commentary on their collectivist society views compared to western nations individualist ones.
In Romania: The head that's held high gets cut off by the sabre.
In Turkey you saying: there's a great smoke on big mountain
How did you watch deleted scenes?
Tywin's follow-up line: "I can have you return to the dirt this afternoon if you like..."
I can't believe the Tyrion-Lord Janos interaction wasn't here:
"I'm not questioning your honor Lord Janos. I'm denying its existence"
Sure its not that fancy from a literary standpoint, but its an excellently crafted insult that sounds all the more ironic to the polite delivery. Plus its hilarious haha.

“All the same, we don’t kneel.”
My fav line
I love Cercei and Littlefinger's "power is power" lines. It perfectly encapsulates their two different mentalities, while making Cercei a menacing villain, as well as a miopic character who's way less cunning than she thinks. It gets even better when you know that Littlefinger was plotting against her and Joffrey the whole time.
Tywin to Cersei: "I don't distrust you because you're a woman, I distrust you because you're not as smart as you think you are"
SAME
Not only myopic, but also nonsensical. "Power is power" has 0 explanatory capability.
I argued with people over that scene. So many stupid people think that Cersei proved that she was right.
No. 1 for me would be Littlefinger's quote, "Fight every battle, always, in your mind. Everyone is your enemy, everyone is your friend. Every possible series of events is happening all at once. Live that way and nothing will surprised. Everything that happens will be something you have already seen before."
this one is insane. It was impactful as soon as he said it
@@noone-gf5op i can hear him saying this and it actually explain what he has been doing since the start
weaponised anxiety...
Yeah it's definitely a shame he didn't watch past the first four seasons. So many good lines missed
"Cersei understands the consequences of her absence, and she's absent anyway, which means she does not intend to suffer those consequences. The trial can wait. We all need to leave."
I feel like Margaerys final lines are some of the best, they show how intelligent she is and how ruthless and evil Cersei is.
Sansa: I'm sorry, Your Grace, I'm stupid, of course you'll be in the vanguard. They say my brother Robb always goes where the fighting's thickest...and he's only a pretender.

Simple yet so powerful, makes you remember that everytime one of these lords or ladies makes a move in their 'game' thousands of lives are being lost.
And yet the sacrifice of two thousand men saved tens of thousands in besieged Riverrun.
"Chaos is a ladder" is a phenomenal line and when Littlefinger tells Tywin a variation of this, he just looks at him and says, "you say that like you were the first man to think it" essentially him saying you're not as smart as you think you are 😂
"A moment of chaos affords opportunities lost soon after"
Tywin: no shit pal
Tywin was running Westeros as the Hand while Littlefinger was still thirsting for Catelyn as a ward. A perfect example of this is when Joffrey gets murdered, and Tywin uses the situation to get Jaime back as his heir, get into the ear of Tommen, and get Tyrion out of his way. Well almost, before the whole crossbow thing

That's surprisingly the most romantic line by the most unromantic charakter.
I LOVE that scene as well!

It also connects to the Lannister saying "A Lannister always pays his debt". Very great line.
I kinda wish you included when Ser Barristan was fired when he says both “even now I can cut through the five of you like carving a cake” and “here boy, melt it down and add it to the others.”
It showcases he’s the powerhouse in the room and tells Joffrey “you’re my enemy now.”
Yes! The cake line is so good
This line is even better in the book where he says: "Here, boy. Melt it down and add it to the others, if you like. It will do you more good than the swords in the hands of these five. Perhaps Lord Stannis will chance to sit on it when he takes your throne."
The obsession you lot have with Selmy is so embarrassing, get over it

And Rhaegar died.”
Jorah has a couple dialogue gems and my favorite action scene is him in the arena
and it's preceded by one of my favorites "There's a beast in every man and it stirs when you put a sword in his hand"

I think “Winter is Coming” has been underrated due its overexposure in merchandise and memes
The more I think on it, the more it impresses me with its simple, solemn promise-it is both a warning and a principle regarding how (for example) the politics of King’s Landing is small fry compared to the approaching Armageddon
What do you mean?! Cersei obviously was the main antagonist all along, with the small fry Night King dying in Episode 3...
Another reason I like this quote is because it's the only of the big houses mottos that isn't boasting itself

What I love about #3 is the delivery. The way he says "ladder", so ferocious and confident
yes! and all thats happening during the speech is fenomenal
I think the line “The lion does not concern himself with the opinion of the sheep” is so great, as it contrasts with Tywin’s character. All of Tywin’s time in the show is him trying to solidify his family’s legacy, which means that he does care what masses think of him and his family.
"This one was only the Watcher. Hang him last so he can watch the others die" - Robb Stark
That is such a badass line.
Agreed
Indeed! Robb has some great lines too, another is when he confronts Greatjon in S1.

Robb: " I sent a lot of men to their deaths today."
Theon: "They will sing songs of their sacrifice."
Robb: "And the dead won't hear it."
I honestly never understood why Robert acted so shocked to hear that. Maybe I'm thinking too straight forward about it.

Jaime like Tyrion is such interesting characters because they start to behave according to how people view them "the imp" and "kingslayer" even though they are more underneath
yessss its one of my favorite scenes ever
@@joeschmoe3665 Jamie did 360 in the end. They made Tyrion completely dumb.
@@aravindsanjeev4150 180. If I did a 360 I'd go completely around and end up back where I started. Trust me.
Really should’ve included Varys response to Tyrion threatening to have him thrown into the sea.
“You might be disappointed with the results. Storms come and go, big fish eat the little fish, and I keep on paddling.”

Varus is gendry confirmef
I'm not questioning your season 8 writing skills,I'm denying its existence
My personal favourite are the words from Qyburn to Pycelle right before his death:
This pains me, my lord.
It just shows the duality of that line and how just as strong it is used either way
one of the only few moments i liked in that season
Of course theyre vice versa
Idk but that counter line seemed too obvious for the context.
Not really sure how that's clever at all, tbh
An honorable mention:
“I learnt that I’ll never win. Not that way. That’s their game, their rules. I’m not going to fight them, I’m going to fuck them. That’s what I know, that’s what I am. And only by admitting what we are can we get what we want”
It seems, Littlefinger is one of the few who understand the charade about power said by Varys.
This quote described Little Fingers role in the whole show!

Tyrion in season 4: I WISH I WAS THE MONSTER YOU THINK I AM
Tyrion in season 6: yOu dOnT hAvE a cOcK
@@thefoochie2118 I Know! I just think when the writers were writing his lines in the later seasons they just replaced his smart lines with cock jokes.
"Who has a better story than Bran the broken?"
Even Olly had a better story, bruh
"How do you want to die?" Tyrion's colorful response... LOL!!! Best line ever, should have been #1 spot.
"Love is the death of duty" propably applies to Robb Stark the most.
The actor for Littlefinger did such a great job delivering his lines. One of the best casts in the show...especially considering his forgettable performance as the FBI guy from the Dark Knight Bane movie
He was also pretty good in The WIre. But then again, as with Game Of Thrones, a lot of great performances and writing in that.
I pretty much just know him from Shanghai knights. He did pretty well in that, his character almost reminds me of little finger
He was also awesome in Peaky Blinders
He’s in a new show called Mayor of Kingstown with Jeremy Renner/Kyle Chandler, etc. I’ve only seen the first episode but he’s chilling as ever😎
And in peaky blinders
(There is still no certainty who did it, and the idea that littlefinger sent it is both unlikely and at the very best still a simple hypothesis with little proof.)
There was no way for Littlefinger to know Catelyn would ever kidnap Tyrion, so he can hardly be seen as the instigator here.

I disagree with you..
In my opinion littlefinger wasn't just lucky, he gained advantages because he was smart to see the possible outcomes by dealing with the winning powers and by always having plan B.
Some of his achievements are as follows:
-Poisoned Jon arryn.
After all this man became l

@@RedFloyd469 ok but your second point is a direct result of your first point. Littlefinger made Catelyn believe the Lannisters were behind everything.
One of my all time faves: “a Targaryen, alone in the world. It’s a terrible thing” right before Jon walks in, foreshadowing his true identity
its amazing how the lines in this show alone are a quick reminder of how unmatched it truly is. pure poetry.
one of my favorite lines is actually in the last season (yeah, I know).
And 7 Kingdoms couldn't fill the hole she left behind."*
The weight of emotional pain behind his words, the acting, the rage and grief and pure, emotional agony he conveys is just heartbreaking. I want to hug Robert and weep.
"I wish I was the monster you think I am" idk it just sticks with me. It perfectly describes tyrion. He tries to be the monster while he isn't.
errr.... that's the divergence point. In the books... errr...
@@davidlewis5312 Yeah book tyrion is not a good person. In the show he is
I really love that one from the Old Bear, Jeor Mormont: "you want to lead? Learn how to follow". I think it's really underestimated.
Absolutely!!
that quote old even before the show and books 😂
"Fear cuts you deeper than a sword."
That line by Aarya stark is a true fact.
Seven hells, the lines from the earlier seasons were gold. There’s so many to choose from
“By what right, does the wolf judge the lion. By what right!”
“A Lannister always pays his / her debts”
“If you think this has a happy ending, you haven’t been paying attention”
“The man who passes the sentence should swing the sword”
“You know nothing, Jon Snow”
“Power is power”
“A dragon is not a slave”
“What the fucks a Lommy?!”
“You gonna die for some chickens? Someone is”
"I understand that if any more words come pouring out your c**t mouth, I'm going to have to eat every f*cking chicken in this room."
Best line.
CLEARLY the best Hound line, he was trippin in this vid 😂
Also actually uses a metaphor as a threat. Best Hound line.
That should be put on the cover of every cook book.
i fucking love this one
I was looking for this one! One of my favorite scenes and characters in the entire series.
Best line is easily Jamie saying, "I never much cared for them, innocent or otherwise." About the people he sacrificed his honor to save.
🧢🧢🧢🧢🧢
It’s very symbolic…of later GoT
Still not as good as "She ... is mah queen" and "I don't want it". Oh and don't forget the one that sums up the last seasons: "Maybe it really is all cocks in the end."
@@asterixobelix20 I have to say the best line is "you want a good girl, but you need a bad pussai". It's so poetic
Honestly its a bit of a mindfuk if they seriously wanted to do that to jamie... That would give way to amazing writing. That means what he told Brienne was a lie; potentially what jamie "claimed" the mad king said to him would also be a lie....
I always liked Cersei's "Everywhere in the world they hurt little girls".
Same, actually I liked her relationship with Sansa a lot. She shoot herself in the foot when she told Joffrey to cast her aside for Marjorie.
Theres one line that always stuck with me, its when cersei and robert are talking about Lyanna Stark, and Cersei asks if there was ever a chance for them, and its just one word. No. But the way mark addy delivered the line with sadness and regret and disgust was soooo savage. Man he absolutely killed it as Robert Baratheon
Melisandre: "He is the Lord's Chosen. Born amidst salt and smoke"
Renly: "Born amidst salt and smoke? Is he a ham?"
I just love that line from Renly and how it shows his attitude.
"I did not kill Joffrey but I wish that I had" should have been included IMO
Also the "watching your vicious bastard die give me more relief than a thoudand lying whores."
Only if you include the part right after:
“Watching your vicious bastard die gave me more relief than a thousand lying whores”
Chills. Every time.
It's a good line, but out of context it doesn't have much to offer.
Tywin’s entire scene with Jaime in season 1 was full of amazing dialogue.
J: so the lion does care about the opinions of the sheep
T: no, that’s not an opinion, it’s a FACT
I think Tywin contradicts himself in that particular scene. He has far better monologues and dialogues.
That line originated with Saddam Hussein.. In court he said " The lion does not care about a monkey laughing at him from a tree. "
@@Nisvet-d9h did he said that in the 70s/80s or after 'A GoT' book was released

Aemon had so many good quotes and i love the one u picked, however i really really love Maester Aemon’s question to Jon “If your father had to choose between honor on the one hand and those he loves on the other, what do you think he’d do?”
Fun fact: not even Ned Stark could answer this question... in the book, Ned actually thinks about the very same question before he confronts Cercei (with the truth about her bastards) - choosing between his honour and his children - and he is unable to answer himself...
"Chaos is a ladder" with Littlefinger's intonation is my personal number 1. It's so short but so powerful. And explains the life itself. Brilliant!
Loras' smiling "Neither will you" to Jaime when Jaime was telling him in a threatening way that he would never marry Cersie
