I tried the wilson staff model yesterday at the local PGA store. They are incredible. I have never had a wilson club. I was actually testing AP2 comparing to my Tour Preffered Taylormade blades i currently use. These wilson blades were 10 yards longer for me. And the ball was flying off the face. Will probably buy in 2020.
Love the review own 40 sets of irons ..I own the last five years of Wilson irons I n own both sets tested they are great and the new D7 forged or be will go in a bag I love the D7 cast incredible distances in and forgiveness now make a great Tour quality DRIVER
Michael, thanks for another very informative video as always. I read all 44 comments and I am simply baffled by some of the idiotic posts. You are doing well my friend and keep it coming......I am seriously looking at putting together a combo set to have the best of both worlds. Thanks again.
Playing the V6 now. Can't really see spending $1100, just to get new irons. They are pretty! But I think the V6 is a sharp looking iron too. If there was a noticeable difference in performance I might consider it. Nice review Michael!
When I was younger & competing in tournaments, I had a set of Hogan Apex blades, I switched to cavity backs for distance in mid to long irons. I mixed the sets with blades from 7-pw. The proximity to the pin with blades from 150 yards in, was a big difference. The spin & distance was better. The blades maybe 5 yards closer to the pin overall on shots. I started winning, closer to pin more birdie putts. You have to get to a certain level of play to see the big difference.
I love Wilson Irons, I started playing the Fg tour F5 irons and switched to the V6 and love them. My V6 irons are still doing the job so I will stick with them for now. great video
I love the looks of the blade ! I just will have to wait for a used set to purchase. But they are slick and sexy looking and makes me think of a lightning bolt !!! Very cool ..
There’s nothing “peculiar “ about the loft of these two sets. Wilson stayed with the old 7iron loft 35’ in their players irons for a long time. Now they decided to go with the rest when they released the staff irons. Hence the 34’ loft. I think that when they release the replacement for the V6 they’ll do the same.
I’m playing the V6 irons at present. I do t hit enough fairways off the tee for the blades, but I also think both clubs look and feel amazing. The price as well is much less than the other ‘major’ club makers.
Just hit the FG Tours today as I begin my search for a fitting with new clubs. Felt great, incredibly consistent for a weekend golfer like me and only 3-4 yards shorter than my current Di-7s in spite of being 4 degrees weaker. Great clubs and definitely high on my list now!
Great vid Mike, much appreciated. However, would have liked to have seen you also test the 4 iron in both, just to see if the V6 is more forgiving. In my opinion a combo set would be ideal.... Just a thought. Keep up the great work 👍🏌️
Still have my FG v2’s - Pro X 6.5 flighted. Was always a user of more mainstream manufacturers but since trying Wilson I’ll be upgrading to either V6 or if I can afford it the blades!
As a mid handicapper I got fitted for the Wilson Staff D300 with graphite shafts. I had never considered Wilson clubs but these have been great. And the price was half of the big brand names clubs.
Same, play the D300 and have neve been striking the ball higher or as far. They are rocket launchers. Price is great too, 340 for 5-pw with a 4 hybrid.
Nice review. It's always great to see the brand being promoted well. I'm a WS fan and have been my whole life. I'm a Wilson Brand Ambassador here in South Africa. My new V6's are arriving in a week and I can't wait. Custom fit. I get to test and play with all the new stuff coming out. Would love to see you do a review on the WS D7 irons and woods. Keep up the great work. #WilsonGolfSA #WilsonGolf #WilsonStaff
Nice comparison video! Wilson certainly knows how to make a nice iron! The v6 reminds me alot of my AP2s...including lofts. The Staff Blades though....they are so beautiful! I don’t remember anything ever looking quite like that! There is an amazing blend of modern and traditional in its design that just works!
I got fitted for new irons 8 weeks ago and the fitter had me hit V6 with an extra half inch on the shaft, hadn't heard of them before I hit 'em although I had Staff blades 3 decades ago and loved them but they were showing their age so ended up going through a selection of cavity backs by various manufacturers, I now have V6 FG Tour irons in my bag and I have never loved this game more, they go where I point them, generally, and they feel fantastic but I can totally see why you put these blades in your bag Michael, they just ooze Wilson Staff and I don't think other clubs have that "thing". At least, not at this price point (TaylorMade Tiger Woods).
One thing that stands out for me with CB vs blade videos in general, is how sporadic the dispersion is with a CB style iron. It just seems so much tighter with blades, front to back and laterally. That's why i ditched my weighted forged clubs and bought MBs.
Just got fitted for the V6's today, based in part from your videos and a demo day, thanks. Went with 4 to 7 plus GW in the V6 and 8 to P in the Staff Blades, like you said just because they look great.
IMHO if someone is going to drop $$$ for a set of irons, they should get the ones that look the best to their eyes. I much prefer to get the irons that look so good to me every time I set up to the ball than something that doesn't appeal to me. I will learn to get the most out of them and happily live with the result.
I know the blades look nice, but the V6s gave you 4 or 500 revs more backspin, a higher peak, steeper descent angle and more forgiveness in the longer irons. I wouldn't be surprised to see you go back to the V6s when your blade love affair dims, lol.
I'm in the same boat. Got my V2's when I started 6 years ago on a 20 and now I play off a 9 and just love them. Think I'll go a combo though maybe 6-9 blades and cavities for the lower ones for that forgiveness. Looks of a club are a big deal for me though. Great looking clubs gives me confidence.
I currently us the V6s and love them, the best iron I have ever played I am very tempted by the staff as they look so good, I would have loved a comparison between the longer irons, Pity.
Nice irons from Wilson and thanks for sharing your video. | would likely pick the V6 irons. Two elements you did not mention was the shaft type and shaft flex and the lie of the club. And had you included how those factors work with your specifications as this may help others who are looking at either of these irons as a potential set to carry and play.
The V6 are so nice to hit but the blades look great but I'd prefer if Wilson made their blades with the looks of Tiger Woods blades or Mizuno Mp18.I have an old Wilson Andy Bean 9iron and that club is so sweet even chip shots feel solid.
S C I’m a weekend golfer and I play blades. I started out playing old Macgregor blades, tried many different irons throughout the years, went back to blades again ( Titleist MB 718 ).
The blades were always gonna look better and you hit them well. I'm still interested in which driver you end up using. I'm rooting for the sub zero with the #'s it gave you!!.. but you're the one swinging it. Keep us posted.
THE DIFFERENCE IS THE PERSON SWINGING THE CLUB. SINCE THE BLADE CLUB LOOKS COOL , THIS HACKER NEEDS THE APPEARANCE FIRST AND WILL LIVE WITH THE RESULT. ALSO I CONNECT ARNIE WITH WILSON STAFF FROM THE 60'S.
Hey Michael! I have been playing v6s for quite a while now and also love them! Went a couple weeks ago to a Wilson Demo Day and hit the Staff Model!! Wow!!! Really loved the look and feel!! Which shaft do you have in those 2 irons? Thanks so much as always for a great and honest review!!
When it comes to golf clubs, performance is more important to me than looks. These clubs seem virtually the same, so price would be the overriding concern.
Do you notice you hit more straight shots with blades as opposed to more draws with a cavity iron? That seems to be the case with me even when they're spec'd the same
Here's a secret to making blades much more easy to hit! LEADTAPE!!! The pros get their blades custom weighted with those tungsten plugs recessed into the sole.
i played the v6 for a bit. but actually spun too much. i delofted them for a bit but didnt like the bounce after that...c300 forged exact opposite, knuckle balls over greens...
It's funny how marketing and tour presence weighs so heavily in the public's perception of a brand. Wilson has always made top shelf equipment, but unfortunately the name has come to be associated with cheap box sets.
Its brilliant though because the golf snobs think they’re superior to you by spending £1200 on tw taylor mades but wilson staffs are just as good, better looking and a fair few hundred quid cheaper
@@MichaelNewtonGolf that's because the v6s are the previous generation clubs. The the tour 100 lofts were the same as the v6s. Their replacement will most likelybe same loft as the model blades
I don't doubt that they fit you well Michael, but they're a classic example of how bias in the brain works. Since you loved them the moment you saw them you overlooked things you don't in other reviews. These are releasing out every bit as much as other irons you've criticized for this, but never mention it once with these. It's the classic way we pick and choose regardless of reality.
Spin around 6500 for a 7 iron isn’t releasing out much and I’m happy with that stopping. Yes, would always question power irons that spin 5500 and sometimes less.
This is a simulation on a flat green. It's not representative of real conditions. Where I play in Canada greens are watered regularly at most courses and are very receptive even in the heat of summer. I could hold them easily with these shots, likely landing right back beside my pitchmark. It also depends on the slope of the green, wind and other factors. The numbers look very good to me.
Nothing feels like a proper blade. They are absolutely stunning clubs.
A well middled shot never fails to put a smile across the chops!
Still happily using the fg tour 100s
Wilson so underrated, if more people tried them, more would use them.
Both fabulous and priced properly by probably the most underatted company in golf.
I tried the wilson staff model yesterday at the local PGA store. They are incredible. I have never had a wilson club. I bought those blades back in May when they first came out. Best clubs I've ever owned!

Difficult choice as both perform superbly , but just on looks the Blade wins.
Playing the V6 now. Can't really see spending $1100, just to get new irons. They are pretty! But I think the V6 is a sharp looking iron too. If there was a noticeable difference in performance I might consider it. Nice review Michael!
I have been striking the V6 irons for a couple of years now. Really, really love them. The blades though have me intrigued. Uh Oh.....$$$$$.
V6 are amazing, loved mine
Both are fabulous looking clubs...... great comparison 😁👍🏻⛳️
You're killing me. Love the looks of these.
When I was younger & competing in tournaments, I had a set of Hogan Apex blades, I switched to cavity backs for distance in mid to long irons. I mixed the sets with blades from 7-pw. Seems like a great idea is mixing the V6 long irons with the Staff shorter irons.
I’m playing the V6 irons at present. I do t hit enough fairways off the tee for the blades, but I also think both clubs look and feel amazing. The price as well is much less than the other ‘major’ club makers.

I think with a proper custom fit. Those irons would make a great combo set.
I am seriously looking into this.......been thinking about it since the new Staff model came out.
Does Wilson sell individual clubs to make a combo set?

He was pimping the V6's because he wants to get a good price for them! ;-)

Yes but blades still high flight, descent and spinning 6500 still has plenty of stopping power.

good luck micheal. wonderful new irons.
My first set were a set of Wilson Augusta approx 1986 a blade type

Thinking about buying the Wilson’s.. do I dare engrave my initials on them or will that ruin the classy look..?? Thoughts?
blasphemy! Though I think, if anywhere, you should have the initials just to the left of the "staff", either same font as "staff" or "model"
What shaft do you play in both Mike ? I’ve just ordered some V6’s with a X100 shaft, can’t wait till they arrive.
Nice video Thank You
Beautiful irons Michael.

V6 are terrific best ever
Staff Model cannot be compared to anything else except Miura MB-101 maybe
Blades are like jewels
Do you think these would work as a combo set? ie. 4,5,6 F6 and 7,8,9,W Staff

When it comes to golf clubs, performance is more important to me than looks. These clubs seem virtually the same, so price would be the overriding concern.
If I had the ability and the $$ to game these, I’d use iron covers on them....and would gladly defend my decision to do so!
Just hang them on a wall. God forbid they actually look like a player was using them.
Me too...lol. They look too beautiful to marked up by bag chatter.
Very similar company to srixon great clubs but don’t push as much as other manufacturers
How good do those blades look, if only I was good enough to have them in my bag. A 14 h/cap makes it a fantasy only.
They are not as hard to hit as people make them out to be.im guessing you would lower your handicap once you get used to them!
What percentage of golfers have the skill to hit these irons, very small I’d think. What handicap would you recommend these for?
I'd have the v6
Hi Michael,
Would you see anything wrong with a combo set e.g. 4-5 V6 and 5-PW Blades?
Not at all, can be a very good option
Do you notice you hit more straight shots with blades as opposed to more draws with a cavity iron? That seems to be the case with me even when they're spec'd the same
Yes
@@MichaelNewtonGolf the original fg tours had more weight in the toe which helped counteract the left miss. They were lovely clubs
Tell Wilson to make some for Lefty😎
I am lefty too. I checked their website and lefty version is coming in the fall.

One set looks cool one doesn’t.
"Sexy" golf clubs? That's called a fetish!!
Happy with that
I've thought about it. Fine looking set of clubs.
So, what's the surprising difference. Did I miss something?
The lofts being weaker on the V6 than the blades. You typically never see this with other brands.
