- Rhiannon Giddens plays on her gourd banjo "Brigg's Corn Shuckin' Jig" and another tune "Camptown Hornpipe' at her home in North Carolina. Rhiannon is one of the three members of The Carolina Choocolate Drops and a welcome participant in MusicBox Project's upcoming film documentary "AMERICANA WOMEN; Roots Musicians -Women's Tales And Tunes.
She’s incredible.
Beautiful Appalachia where Scotland, Ireland, and West Africa came together to make music.
i was just going to say that. ahah
And England
I heard Senegal and Brazil!
kyle robinson yes because they both have African traditions in their music just like the American south.
This woman is awesome, period.
*Total Package*
Red Dead Redemption 2 brought me to her. Hearing her music and banjo in-game is next level. She is next level.
she is always so beautiful when she gets Into the music. like she finds peace there.
Agreed
She is so talented and can do everything!
That was lovely, thank you Rhiannon.
She looks like she is feeling the music coming out of her and can't stop it!
Gorgeous.
Well played and love the gourd banjo
Man, I feel like I was transported back in time
🎶⛩When those old minstrel songs get found while the player is building into the tune...it brings to life a sound from places with dark coveys and big trees...from places people just don't hear much from anymore.
Such talent has rarely been seen on earth. she can sing like an angel and play like the devil, Thank you dear lady.
so love Rhiannon - so much music in her
Wow, so talented and so beautiful! If she has a partner i hope they realize how lucky they are! 👍❤️
1:08 I head this fitting right over rhythms from Cuba. You could play a songo rhythm or son under this perfectly!
Wonderful ! Thank you.
That second tune is called 'Camptown Hornpipe' in the Briggs 1855 banjo instructor, and I think it appears under another name in at least one of the later tutor books.
RHIANNON ROCKS!
Great job! Six thumbs up! Wait! What? Six? Ok. Great job! Love your playing...
Excellent.
I have learned so much from finding your videos today. Amazing 👏. Where did you get this particular gourd banjo, if I could ask please?
Very nice!
Enjoyable. I've tried stroke style but I never liked how it sounded when I do it. Funny think is, I like how everybody else does it, like your technique. Of course it might be that I come from a guitar picking background, so I finger pick my gutstring banjo.
I've enjoyed other music videos of you...and the groups you've been in.
Very nice. Thanks for posting. Trance-like.
Great Sound
Thank you for posting this. I'm hunting for the right banjo for me (without being able to try them out at the store since there aren't any near me) and this helped. So far Ive learned that I definitely will use gut strings, like a resonator but an open back is nice too. Banjo is just so peaceful 😊
She plays with such passion, that is Lovely. She resembles another Musician who also plays and creates music with a passion, by the Name of Tokio Meyers.
I'd like her to play a Vess L. Ossman or Fred Van Eps version of the Poet and Peasant Overture. (classical banjo at it's finest).
Does anyone know who build Rhiannon Gourdbanjo?
Super, well done. An Maith ! Is Maith liom an geansie. " Fleadh Cheol" sin E!
❤️
Nice playing. It sounds like a Kora!
Goddess.
I really wish I knew what the tunning on is I tried standard dadf#a that's not it it has to be something else.
bravo
She's good
The banjo looks like shamisen in Japan.
+Jun じ Thanks man for the tip! Now I´ve found the Yoshida brothers. I have a banjo and now I want a shamisen.
The original shamisens had a cat skin stretched over the box. You should be able to see the nipples.
The strings were made of silk. Can't go wrong with silk and nipples!
don't think I have ever seen a banjo like that
does anyone know what tuning this is?
cool
Um. She's awesome. I love her?
Teilhard Frost banjo?
wow her tee shirt says FLEADH CEOIL which is gaelic for music festival..
Have you ever heard her sing in Gaelic? It'll make you weep!
Her husband is Irish.
@giljacky Very
Gah! My eyes keep losing focus. But it's weird... it only happens when I'm watching this video. Stupid eyes !
Pretty cool tones, though =-]
Be better if it was more in tune
