  • 40W lasers are everywhere, but are they all equal? In this video, I will look at the Creality Falcon 2 40W laser to see how it stands up to the competition. This is a laser with blistering 40W cutting power, but it retains a few old-school features. So, is it up to the task? Join me to find out.
    UPDATE NOTES:
    1. At 1:31 in the video I claim that the maximum speed is 25000mm/s and it should actually be 25000mm/min. Also Creality tells me that it is possible to adjust the maximum speed by making adjustments in GRBL settings and they claim it can easily be set to 36000mm/min
    2. It is possible to adjust the laser power for cutting/engraving by setting the GRBL parameter $156 between 0 and 1 to adjust the power from Lightburn.
    3. Regarding the air assist. Creality tells me that it is possible to set the air flow low for engraving or high for cutting from within Lightburn, so the manual adjustment knob on the side is only to allow for specific manual settings as required.

    Thanks for a quick but fairly comprehensive review.
    Thanks for a quick but pretty comprehensive review. It's great that you focus on the important features rather than stuff like unboxing and assembly. I wonder about the speed issue. Are there actually many situations where 36,000 mm/m is feasible? Although a laser might have a top speed of 36,000 it needs to accelerate and decelerate as it moves back and forth when engraving, so much of the time it isn't really able to move at top speed. I love my Longer B1 which is rated at 36,000 mm/m but I don't know that it actually engraves any faster when it set to 36,000 vs 24,000.

      It’s a good question and at 33W on your B1 you may not notice a huge difference, but you will see the difference on image engraving - especially grayscale engraving. In the Falcon 2 case the slower speed means you need you use half the power or you get an image like the first one I showed. It’s not the end of the world, but when running an engraving business time is money, so you want to go as fast as possible.
      Btw I have a review of the 40W B1 coming up so you’ll get a good idea of the difference power/speed make.

    I wish you would have taken a more in-depth look at how the spot size is supposed to change between precise and normal mode, I thought the precise mode would give you a smaller spot size and therefore a better engrave.

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  9 месяцев назад +1

      Precise mode will give you a smaller spot size because laser is only firing half of the diodes in the module. My gripe is that it isn’t automatic so you would have to do an engrave job first. Turn on normal mode to get 40W then run a second job to do the cut.
      The AlgoLaser Delta does this without having to think about it.

      What does spot size mean??

    You just seemed negative from the get go so I did not think you would have much enthusiasm when reviewing it.

      Well I try to be unbiased, but the first thing that hit me was the speed.
      Make no mistake, this is a solid laser, and I’m a big fan of Creality for several years. But I think they just stuck a 40W laser module on this to ride a marketing wave. As a 20 or 30w laser this would be exceptional, but as a 40w laser it needs to be able to go 30-40% faster, otherwise the power is just wasted and you’d be paying for something you will never be able to use except for cutting.

    Everyone misses the biggest negative about this laser. You cannot remove the shroud at the bottom of the module. This effectively renders the machine useless for engraving anything that has hardware attached to it that is higher than the focus height, like watchbands for instance.

      It’s a valid point but most modern lasers have this issue

  • @MrAsmodath

    When you use the "Precise" mode, it doesn't just limit you to 20 Watts, it turns off 4 of the diodes in the head, and reduces your spot size. This is used for engraving. Trust me, it make a much bigger difference doing this instead of keeping all 8 diodes on and just running at 50%. Just saying.

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  7 месяцев назад

      It makes perfect sense to turn off diodes to reduce power and spot size, but it really should be automatic like it is in the AlgoLaser Delta. Having a manual switch isn’t optimal for jobs where you are cutting and engraving from the same project.

      @@SteveMakesEverything And that looks like a nice unit, but I just checked the site, and that is only a 22W module. I didn't see a 40W option.

      @@SteveMakesEverything No, the AlgoLaser Delta only seems to be 22W, I already own the 44W Falcon 2.

      I wasn't suggesting you buy a Delta; it only tunes its power and beam size automatically.😈

      The Falcon2 is a great laser, but I think due to its max speed they are limiting its potential.
