Hey guys!! So with just a few days left in the area, I wanted to put together this video for you as a full tour of the area of Asakusa!
Both for those of you who are coming to Japan, and those of you who cant!
Likes and shares are appreciated, but I'm honestly just happy that you're here watching!! Let me know what your favorite spot was!!
OMG!!! Meeting a viewer! She was so sweet! It's so awesome to be recognized-your advice videos aren't going to waste 😀😀😀 You're amazing!
Great video ... So many memories remembering wandering around that area (the last time I just wandered the streets as I'd been to the main things previously) and I loved wandering those covered shopping streets no matter where I am in Japan. Also some interesting places to try next time I'm there too!
So main foods I miss too especially okonomiyaki and melon pan.
And yes, it is the golden poop 💩
thank you as usual. I appreciate all the spots you showed and love them all! cant wait to visit them.
Most important tip: Go early or late at night If you go after 11am, forget about it, the place is swarmed with so many tourists it's almost impossible to get around.
Please do more videos like this and do a part 2 to this one.
Loved this! No matter how many times I've been to Asakusa there's always something left to discover. Need to make another trip there soon!!
There are still so many hidden spots.... 😉
I'll never have the chance to travel. So your videos and the like make me feel like I'm actually there.
I think I could spend an entire week checking out that area and not get enough. Great video, more like this showing off the Great treasures hidden and waiting to be shown off.
I was in Asakusa for 8 days October of last year with my son we stayed at the Asakusa View Hotel and we had such a good time. I really enjoyed Tokyo can't wait to go back. ❤ Tokyo
Many do advise against going here because of the crowd and it being just too “touristy”. But hey, I am a tourist, and there are many reasons why the place has become so. It still is worth all the trouble. What I do is I stay in a hotel or ryokan in the area, and I wake up early to enjoy most sights uncrowded yet. Even at night when most of the shops have closed, the place is still beautiful. As this video has shown, too. There’s just so much to explore in one walkable area. I enjoyed watching as it brought back many good memories, and since, we’re coming back 2 weeks from now, I have new places to see for ourselves. Thanks for the tips.
The melon pane with ice-cream from that place is just wow!
Fantastic video. I'm coming back in April 2024 and this video added a million more things to my lists. Cheers.
Next time I visit Tokyo I need to spend more time in the Asakusa area, didn't realize there was so many cool places there.
I love Asakusa! I always stay in that area when I’m in Tokyo. 😊
I walked around Asakusa in autumn 2019 and never noticed the tumbler shop! Damn, they are so pretty and unique.
This is like visiting a friend who lives in Japan and he shows you his favourite local spots. Awesome.
I just went to Asakusa last year summer for 3 days, I live near almost exact area you introduce, but I never get to explore them. Those stores are so.. vivid in your video! I go to 新宿or 銀座to watch the art exhibition and go back to hotel, and lost the hidden gem around me. I wish I could have found your channel eariler! Wish one day I'll be able to go back to Japan, and stay longer to explore more.
This video is making me glad I choose to stay in Asakusa in my upcoming trip. The countdown is on and is real!!
So much info. Yesssss! Definitely helps me plan my trip.
What a beautiful place that you have been fortunate enough to have been able to share your life with. It is sad to move yet at the same time new memories will be build while your old ones have the way to lead you ✨ Thank you for sharing, it truly was beautiful to see.
I went to Ninja Bar last week when staying in Asakusa. Incredible fun having cup sake in a blade runner-esque area of the underground. The ninja brings so much fun energy. It was a fairly quiet area after sundown, but make your own fun and it livens up!
Im actually in Tokyo at the moment, and on my second day(yesterday) i walked along the sumida river, its amazing indeed :)
For your new home it would be cool if you did a video like this again, but for your new home instead.
I liked this video. It brought back a lot of memories and showed me new places that I would like to visit next time I get to visit Japan.
When that women recognized norm i couldn't help but smile, it was almost instinctual. The way she just said "Norm!? NORM!"
What a super video. You could spend a 2 week vacation and never leave Asakusa. My wife got a kimono on one of those small side streets. This is a great video to take with you to guide you around the area.
There's so many interesting spots to visit everywhere. I feel like even with I went to tokyo for a month it would end up still feeling like I barely saw anything. Thanks for the tips!
I love seriously love Asakusa. Whenever I go to Japan I make sure to stay in that area because it's just so much quieter and not as busy as the rest of Tokyo. Plus everything around Sensoji is amazing. One place I love to visit is Mokuhankan for their traditional woodblock prints.
On my first visit to japan, i stumbled across the denpoin dori as we rushed to the tower knives shop and back (we were in a hurry haha). I made photos when i went through, cause I immediately realised how beautiful the street was!
Funny to see it all again. I lived in the Asakusa area for 3 months many years ago. Would love to go back and visit
I'll be honest and say I never would have thought to go to Asakusa while in Tokyo. But watching this makes me just as excited to spend at least a few days there as I am for Akihabara or Shibuya! I'd love to see a part 2!!!
Hey! I definitely want to explore Asakusa when I go to Japan after everything you've showed in all your videos :D
It’s a great place to be!
Loved this area, shopped and ate here frequently! Prices are so much more reasonable and the whole place used to be so earthy and so old fashion! I guess not any more! Thanks Tokyo Lens for a wonderful refresher for me!
The first time I visited Asakusa I didn't like it that much, we just went to the temple and it was so busy and touristy i didn't enjoy it. A few years later I took my friend there at her request and we ended up walking along the river which was lovely and slightly changed my mind about the area. I'm going back in a few months and I've def added a few places from this video to go visit and give the area a proper explore. Seeing it so much in your videos has made me want to give it another chance and this video solidified that!
Your video is the ultimate locals guide. I am going to send a link to this video to my brother. He will be coming up to Tokyo from Nagoya in a month or so. For a visit. This will give him some great advice for his trip. Thanks for sharing.
💛💛💛So grateful to be able to go exploring with you.💛💛💛
.
I'm soo happy its tuesday!!
Me too!
do u mean TOKYOTUESDAY? ;D
@@ghostwriter6455 YES. Thank you~!
I love the community of this channel :D
@@ghostwriter6455 I do also! My Name is Tizz. Nice to meet you!~♡
I will keep all these spots in mind once I get to visit Asakusa sometime!
This makes me miss Asakusa so much. Thankfully I'll be back for Sanja Matsuri so I don't have too long to wait. My little brother is coming with me this time, it'll be his first time outside the US, and he's pretty excited about it.
Also, I just finished my history capstone for my BA on the history and development of Asakusa and used your channel as a reference on the modern look and atmosphere. You can now say your videos have contributed to an academic research paper.
Travel vlogs are good, nice to see everyday life in Japan.
This video makes me want to revisit asakusa, I certainly did not explore enough of it while I was there.
Starting to do a deep dive into your older content. Its really good so far, enjoying the pov, one on one perspective.
Nice homage to your home.
When I visit Japan, I will make sure to check out this neighborhood! Sounds awesome.
Thanks for giving me a few more ideas of things to check out. Tokyo kitchen sounds like fun, so does an escape room.
My parents will come in Japan this month, thanks for this video I know where to go in Asakusa. Thanks Norm!
So cool to see all the places I saw last year. We stayed at the Smile Hotel in Asakusa and it was very nice, clean and friendly staff. I will miss seeing the familiar places, but look forward to new adventures and new things.
I love the little comments you show on screen
Perfect! Many of those places we were at and enjoyed while we were there! Brings back so many memories! And you even got the 'golden fertility swimmer" or 'golden poop'...lol...I know it is supposed to be a flame blowing to the side; but we all like the other descriptions. Love the showing of the streets and shopsl many of which we visited both times we were there. And the beauty of the buildings and decor. What a wonderful highlight of Asakusa! Awesome job!
I stayed in Asakusa in 2017 when I visited Japan the first time. I may end up moving to Asakusa if I can, when the time is right. I loved it there. So peaceful.
Thank you for your deep asakusa tour❗️
I was born in asakusa(grew up and living in another place),and often walk around asakusa, some of spot is unknown for me😊
I will go next week to see sakura around Sumida river✌️
Thanks for the quick rundown of the area. I'll be there on the 13th. I probably won't remember all these places but it's great to know Asakusa is more than just Sensoji Temple.
Planning my next trip to Japan... I could use this as a virtual guided tour!! Thanks Norm - love your work :)
I spent a lot of time in Asakusa, found you secret alley to spot the tokyo skytree and took the boat to the bay but didn't knew of a lot of things you mention here, I'll go around again when I get back!
thanks for your videos!
Aside from Kamakura, Asakusa gave me the closest vibe to Edo period Japan (near Tokyo) that I felt when I visited last year. Had no idea that's where you were living; thanks, as always, for your great vids, Norm!
Great video!! Unfortunately it reinforces how much I missed on my whirlwind Tokyo visit *sigh*
There’s Never enough time
I’ve lived here for 10 years and recording this just lead to so much discovery that it’s even harder to leave now lol
Never enough time~
I’ve watched many U Tuber’s and so far you’ve showed more and every informative ! Thanks !
Hooray! The guide to Asakusa is here. I think i'd have to spend at least a week exploring Asakusa (who am I kidding--I'd spend a week just checking out side streets, restaurants and shops!)
Thank you so much for giving us the benefit of your years in Asukusa. It's obvious that you have a genuine love for the area and it's people.
I am constantly amazed at how a crowded, bustling city like Tokyo still has incredibly beautiful little areas of peace and repose. Truly western cities could learn from this.
Part 2? Yes, Please!!
Thanks, Norm! We'll be staying just a few kilometers from Asakusa, so we'll definitely check out some of these places.
The best tour of asakusa, love it 🇵🇭🤙
First, didn't realize/remember that you were moving too; so many RUclipsrs moving, it's fun to see and glad it's more comfortable, just funny how synched it is.
Second, didn't plan to go to Asakusa when I took my trip two months ago, and glad I didn't, so much to do, that it could take me 2-3 days. Now I'd have to decide between returning to Akihabara and catching the train or vise versa.
Lastly, really enjoyed the tour especially with the directions you gave and constantly referencing where you were so it was more grounded. Would be nice for a part 2 definitely.
I’ll be in Tokyo in June and I’ve been looking for other things to do or explore in Asakusa. Went there in 2017 and, side note, Nakamise Dori is both beautiful and empty before 9am on a weekday when the shops are still closed. The temple is open though so if you want to go in and pray or look around, it’s the perfect time to do so. When my friend and I left the area after 9am, it was packed. Anyways, thank you for the new areas to explore! Look forward to your new videos as I get caught up on the older ones.
Thank you so much for this video! I was going nuts trying to figure out where to book a hotel on our first trip to Japan and after watching this, I am sold!
That’s awesome! So glad I could help!
Amazing video, really love this longer area deep dive. This really helps get the flow of an area and will really help with trip planning.
I took classes at Tokyo Kitchen my last trip to Japan, they were great. Highly recommended :)
Ahh, there is sooo much more to see in Asakusa. Im so hyped for it! Thanks for showing it
Loved this Norm, it auto played after your new Tsugaru Shamisen video. It felt timely that it was right before you moved to Tokyo since you’re about to go on another adventure. Sending you lots of good vibes 💕
This video makes me want to go back to Japan!! ⛩️
Aww Man! I didn't want to watch this video last week because I might feel too nostalgic, and I was completely right! I moved to Kamakura about a year ago from Nihonbashi, and Asakusa is where I used to shop, eat and play! I'm gonna go and hang in Asakusa this weekend!
Great overview of the area. I used to live in Kanda and thought I knew the Asakusa area, but I could recognise only half of what you presented.
Got lost trying to follow your directions just watching this 😂🤣😂
Ahhh flashbacks flashbacks! Stop this madness Norm!! So many spots visited, so many missed. Always stayed in Asakusa during my trips and this is why! Asakusa 4 life
Oh yeah, for favourite spots. Ichiran, Kikkõ and pointing at the golden poop.
Hahaha glad you enjoyed it that much~
By far the best walking tour of Asakusa. Thanks.
So kind~ thank you 😊
I leave in a week and am staying in Asakusa for four nights. Very helpful!
Hope you have a great time!
Omigosh that just seems a bit overwhelming! I'll definitely have to swing by the area when get there in a few short weeks. Can't wait!
Cool, I wanted to find that underground arcade and now I know where to go. Thanks dude.
I stayed at Bunka Hostel while in Asakusa. It's right in the center of everything there. ~$20-25 a night if you book ahead. Asakusa was a great place to explore at night. If you like woodblock prints, Mokuhankan is near Senso-ji.
Awesome info!
Thank you~
Thank you, you show us so much to do and see, me and family will be visiting Asakusa in 2 weeks time, exciting time!
Wow that was a lot of stuff. I am looking forward to walking around this area again. I will be saying in Asakusa on my next trip.
wow! you weren't kidding about 'ultimate' ..that was amazing.. so many places! .. You must have done a ton of walking to show all that
Worth every second!
Norm, you rock!. Always great content. I've spent many months, days and hours exploring Asakusa and you pointed out some really cool spots that I had no idea existed...Thanks for all that you do!
This video is a blessing and a curse!
It's so good, I don't even have words for how much I liked this tour through Asakusa!
It really makes you want to visit and that's the curse part, because I can't (any time soon).
Amazing video and if you ever feel like making this kind of video for other places - Yes, please!
Exactly, those videos make you wanna visit every single place shown in them and i bet i'll be completly screwed when time comes to plan my trip to Japan since i won't be able to pick.
This is very helpful! I'm going to Tokyo soon and will be staying at a place in Asakusa. I can't wait to explore the area! Thank you for this guide!
Oh I love this style of video! Now I want to find all the cool backstreets!
Stumbled across your video yesterday night. You made me wanna travel! I like your video so much!! ❤️
Hey Norm, I just watched the shamisen champion tournament and I saw you're performance and your really great! I seen you for about 3 years at the tournament with KIKI and I gotta say everytime you play you get a lot better!! Keep up the good work.
Im in asakusa. Im doing that rute. Thank you. As always very usefully information.
How did I miss this place . One day. Great vlog as normal.
I love that you did this! I remember some of these things from your earlier vids but always cool to see new stuff!
I've been to many of the landmarks you showed here. I even stayed at 9Hours. It's a surprisingly nice capsule hotel.
Thanks for this wonderful tour. I liked the way it was presented. In general while I do enjoy the super high production value stuff, too, I often find myself missing this kind of more casual approach. It's beautiful to get a view of Japan this way! 🎵🎶
I'm pretty excited to see you dig up all new local gems where you're going to move! (I've forgotten already where you're moving to)
Thank you Tokyo lens Tokyo cruise information.
Loved the video, I recognized a lot of places I've been to or seen. But found a lot of new places I'm going to visit when I come to Japan this summer again. So thank you Norm!
Thank you so much! My son was here when he was just 15 and your tour brought back great memories for him to share with me! 👍🙏❤️
I love this! I vote for a part 2 Asakusa!
Little bit late this time but omg can't love this video enough.
I love this. You have a great personality and style . Thanks for the tour !
My family and I saw Ki and Ki at the Asakusa museum this past December. We walked across the bridge over the river from the the Tokyo Sky Tree to save money from the taxi. We had breakfast in a little restaurant next to the temple; the first thing the old man said to me in the restaurant was, "No smoking." I thought to myself, do I look like I smoke? His wife was much nicer when she arrived.
I spent a few hours there some years ago on my way to Australia and i had a layover in tokyo. Would love to see it again properly.
I would love to explore Tokyo with you! Love all your tips and hidden places... *-*
Part 2 definitely!! This was awesome
Lots of great places for us to go see when we go back to Tokyo. Loved the tour and I got one enjoy these types of videos a lot
Good luck in the new place, hope it’s just as cool
Thank you Norm! I love that you made this amazing video! When I visit in May, I will definitely scout out all these streets, visit the cafes you recommended, pick up some dagashi and a cheap bento box as a midnight snack. Your videos are so fun to watch and will make my trip to Tokyo so much more eventful :)
I stayed in Asakusa right before leaving Japan and I only got to see a tiny bit of it. Guess I have to go back for a week
