Due to copyright, software, and hardware issues, I had to flip, freeze, and trim large amounts of footage in the final cut of this video. Everything in this video is subject to my opinion, it’s fine if you agree or disagree.
After many technical errors that almost killed my laptop, in the BIGGEST Wak’s World video yet, Wakster embarks on a journey to rank every entry in the Cars franchise to answer the question: Is Cars a good franchise? Let's find out and get wacky.

What’s your fondest memory with the Cars franchise? Comment below!
I got to watch this parade that ended with them blowing up Mater and Sherif
Dinoco is all mine
KACHOW!
Watching the first Cars Movie on a DVD player when I was a little kid
Playing Cars Fast As Lightning for hours as a 5 year old.
I love the part where you say "THATS RIGHT" and then Ferdinand appears
I really enjoyed this review, especially the fact that your one of the only people who like Cars 3 over 1, plus the inspirational ending.
Im still standing my ground on the Cars 2 Video Game, it was my first PS3 game as I remember getting it when i was six
Cars 1 was my childhood!
I’ve been a fan of this franchise since I first saw it in theaters back in 2006. The amount of times I’ve watched Cars is somewhat concerning but I see the detail, the love, passion, and heart. The characters just all stand out, even side ones like Chick, The King, the RS gang, just all have unique designs and storys that yea, are told through books you can see there past told in there shops or designs. The amount of setups like Harv asking about McQueens friends, only for McQueen to stumble, to then later pay off with Mater calling him his best friend. Or like you said the turning on dirt. The small details I also enjoy like how Ramone being the same color of what he paints like yellow color, painting the line on the streets, or his red paint job as he paints McQueen in that new paint job at the end. I am sad that people call it a toy commercial, while some shorts and a certain sequel feels that way, I am happy to see that a lot of people are starting to appreciate it more. Amazing video and breakdown on all cars animated products, rare to see people talk about them all. Also little fun fact, I edited that video by PistonCupProductions.
From Cars fan to Cars fan, thanks for the feedback. Nice to see somebody like you!
@@WaksWorld05of course! I’ve always enjoyed the Thomas content as well as a kid. I know you didn’t include the video games. But Cars 1 the video game, is criminally underrated, John Lassiter and Joe Ranft worked closely with the story, so I do consider it canon to some extent. Would definitely recommend checking it out as it ironically is better as a sequal to cars 1 then cars 2 lol. Mater National and race o Rama are ok, as there canon to Cars 1 the video game and have some fun stories.
Like I say in my opinion, Cars is a great example of how do a franchise properly (half of it) by using it's story, characters and even sometimes the world building as it advantages, and also even watching Go Go Cory Carson/Toot Toot Cory Carson which is also another great example be also having the same reasons why it is great, they both really show how you can do I car show and at least make adults enjoy watch then as your kids in different ways, they both and even some other shows like Thomas the tank engine and movies, you can still make it wok by using talking vehicles from movies or tv shows
9:57 same energy as Schaffrillas Productions raging about why Megamind didn’t use the dehydration gun in the sequel
Another good thing about Cars 2 that you and most fans should understand is Professor Zundapp, Grem and Acer since they're great villains in the Cars franchise and I like them very much. You can't deny that
Even though Cars 2 isn’t good, I do like Professor Zundap who is better than Miles Axlerod (who sucks)! I don’t know about Grem and Acer Though!
I remember one of the decent quotes from a now disrespected youtuber in praise of shadows: "Dale gribble is a great character but he works in smaller parts if we had a whole series about dale it would be too much and wouldn't work." Cause mater is the dale gribble to mcqueen's Hank Hill.
The main memory I have with this franchise is seeing Cars 2 in theaters upon its release.
It's objectively a bad movie, but I remember enjoying it back in the day. Idk, it's alright in my book.
Besides that, I had Cars 1 AND Mater's Tall Tales on DVD growing up, and I've been slowly growing a collection of the 1:55 scale diecasts over the past little bit.
Honestly, even though this franchise can be pretty hit-or-miss at times, I can't help but love it.
22:04
We actually had that toy when I was younger
Cars is a Great franchise and definitely deserves more respect
As a diehard fan of racing
Cars 1 & 3 capture the feel of nascar & stock car racing in general from the present future & past
Cars 2 was definitely missed potential
I wish it was more about the WGP and McQueen’s story and have the spy plot be a separate b plot without mater involved that would’ve been so much better
Overall I love cars
It’s a franchise that really hits deep with me I will forever love this franchise and defend it along with many others till the day I die 🏁⚡️
Wow, amazing video man the amount of work you put into this video is just amazing man. It was a great franchise we grew up on unforgettable experiences too and congrats for 3,1k views 🎉
Cars is one of THE franchises that got me into my love of vehicles, and I haven’t stopped following it ever since! 🏎️💨
I’m hoping you could review more cartoons!
I’ve had a lot of fond memories with this show. It had a profound effect on me, and as a kid, I always thought the films were aimed more at adults (I didn’t get some of the jokes) and it’s probably what sparked my interest in real-life cars. Over the years, my interest faded, both in the film and real-life cars faded, but I still rewatch this movie from time to time. Nothing beats the first film in my opinion, but Cars on The Road and Cars 3 get close. Cars 2 was fun, but I didn’t like it as much as the other ones. I heard that Cars 3 was in production when I was in second grade, and it came out when I was in 4th. It was everything I hoped it would be, and more. I cried when Smokey showed lightning the garage full of photos. And there is so much more I could say, I could probably make a video of my own about it.
3:31 - 3:38 How should I put this…
This perfectly describes how I feel about ANOTHER animated sequel. I hate The Angry Birds Movie 2 so much. I really hope that the recently announced Third Movie isn’t as bad as (if not worse than) the second movie.
At least Cars 2, for as much as it got wrong, did try to have stakes and mature moments. The Angry Birds Movie 2 constantly has pee/poop jokes, as well as a Baby Shark reference. There are no consequences for Zeta either. Zeta gets off scot free.
And there’s another thing, NONE OF THE PREEXISTING ANGRY BIRDS CHARACTERS FEEL LIKE THEMSELVES! Only Chuck and Leonard feel somewhat consistent. Everyone else is portrayed wrong in some way.
16:01 And somehow The Angry Birds Movie 2 adds on the problem of a rushed “redemption” and 2019 humor and no consequences for the antagonists.
Wait what? Roomba Rats?! Is that really what they were or something? Like what?
I think it's funny that cars 2 was so bad that Pixar must've decided to forget it existed. Which probably explains why nothing from it was brought up again in Cars 3 as if Cars 2 never happened
Meanwhile Mattel releases cars 2 diecasts still so Mattel has not forgotten about it
Jeff corvette actually made an appearance in the scene where McQueen went to the Florida 500
Fascinating! You're used to All Engines Go, but not Cars 2!
I never gave Planes: Fire & Rescue a second look after I saw the posters for it when it came out, partially I think because I thought I was too cool for it back then, but I just watched it because I didn’t want this video to spoil what I hadn’t seen, and man, that was actually surprisingly great! I really loved the new characters, especially Blade. I did Dipper to be slightly annoying, but it is meant for kids after all. Other than that, you’re totally correct on Dusty’s arc, and I liked the Piston Peak rescue team going to prop wash junction at the end. I hope we get another planes installment sometime in the future, or we meet the characters in a Cars spinoff show.
Do _Bob the Builder_ next!
Or Robocar Poli next!
Or Titipo Titipo Next!
So yeah Cars, its "the black sheep of pixar" but it has its good moments. The first movie was a good introduction and builds the characters already for any spinoff like On the Road or the third movie. And being real the second movie is more of a movie just for kids because i definitely remember someone saying that even if Cars 2 was singlehandedly the worst sequel at least some kids enjoyed it. And a whole bunch of other spinoffs later that are thankfully decent, the series is mostly Decent. As for Planes its definitely what the cars franchise could have been if not for the 2nd movie existing in the duology which thank goodness. Basic planes may be but its good mediocore at best at this point. Other things id like to say but cant mostly because longer comments i guess and Wak making a cool ranking video especially about cars which is pretty amazing especially since its a 1 hour video, GG Wak for the vid and literally bunch of other things and stuff and so.
How I would invision _Cars 2_ as:
Once upon a time, Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) was at the peek of his career. It was even better with the wise and knowledgeable Doc Hudson (Paul Newman), known as the Fabulous Hudson Hornet, as his crew chief. Working together as a team, they managed to win 4 Piston Cups together! However, the relationship would end when Doc experienced an engine collapse, landing him in the hospital. The Radiatior Springs townies found out that Doc had an enginvacluar arrest, caused by exhaust cancer. Doc would pass away, devastating everyone. A few months pass, and McQueen particularly has been grieving over Doc all this time after his funeral. He isn’t even sure he could continue his racing career without him, and thinks he should just retire from racing. One fine night at the Wheel Well Motel, the crew watches _The Mel Dorado Show_ , starring Mel Dorado (Patrick Walter),
Cars 1 and 3 may not be the best Pixar movies, but this will be forever my favorite Pixar movies, along Toy Story 1 and 3
After watching this video, as a die-hard Cars fan myself, your take on this franchise is just as thought-provoking as Unlucky Tug's. So much so that your criticisms on Cars 2 made me rethink how I really felt about that movie. I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt and write it off as a guilty pleasure but that was really nostalgia blinding me from seeing how ridiculous and convoluted it really is. Even a die-hard fan like me couldn't help but notice the cracks and chips in that film's paint job. It is without a doubt one of the worst movie in Pixar's catalogue but honestly not the worst animated movie I ever seen as there are sequels out there that are arguably much worse. But still, it doesn't mean that Cars 2 is exempt from being a bad sequel. You could easily watch the first movie and skip over to the third one and you wouldn't miss anything, as 3 felt more like a natural progression of the first film's story. Younger me wanted to like Cars 2 but older and wiser adult me had to think logically and judge that movie for everything it got wrong. If I had still had that young mentality, I would have been a bigger fool than Mater.
Like Owen Wilson said
Wow
I like Cars 2 because it got away with use of firearms in a kid targeted movie. I don't think any other talking vehicles movies or shows that used guns, or even showing a sentient car being burned.
Tbh, I still have a soft spot for Cars 2, I like how it's different compared to first movie, I like that it's shows more of cars world. But you know how I think the movie would have worked more? As a serial. Look, it could've worked really well, because there's not so much time to give to race or spy thing, and the racers that was on WGP was just... Only Francesco is the most memorable, the others, very bland. The serial could have give them somewhat of a character, more dialogues between them. Like seriously, and Pixar could have made this serial even more violent, especially when you look at the deleted scenes of the movie. I like this movie as a kid, even now, but when it comes to the problems, I can't deny but see them. (Also, stop hating on the Mater, he's my favorite character ngl in this franchise, he's like a great friend to me that I wished I ever had, especially when I was in the school, when all my classmates are a sh*t, and not a friends).
You know what the McQueen and Mater Break up scene reminds of, Ralph and Vanellope’s Idiotic Breakup Friendship from Ralph Wrecks the Internet!
the companies and people that produced and made tayo the little bus and titipo, produced pororo the penguin and chiro also known chiro and friends
7:02 honestly I think fast and furious is way more stupid then transformers. Because at least transformers has breaks between the action when fast and furious barely has any breaks between action.
Planes: Fire and Rescue is another Disney Sequel that I think is actually good! Where Cars 2 fails because it focuses too much on Mater, Planes 2 succeeds because it focuses on Dusty!
8:45 Why are lemons private meeting in a public area when anyone can just roll in and call the cops?
I'm so excited 😊
2017 is basically the 2022 Dreamworks of Pixar because it has two Fantastic Pixar Movies: Cars 3/Coco!
I have one question. HOW WAS CARS 2 WITH AN ONSCREEN SEGMENT OF TORTURE AND MURDER RATED G BUT INSIDE OUT IS PG?
You know what Woody’s Nightmare from Toy Story 2 remind me of, Cars 2!
Another Sequel that I think is better than Toy Story 2/3 and Cars 3 is Inside Out 2: the Most Successful Animated Movie of all Time (if you ignore the Crappy King that is)/The Greatest Sequel ever Made!
I'd argue Toy Story 4 is much worse than Cars 2. Cars 2 is trying to be fun where Toy Story failed to do that AND completely ruin its characters and story
TS4 is just as fun, yet actually doesn’t ruin the pre-established canon, and do not come to me with the same arguments GM13 said.
I think that cars 2 was probably just going to be a 1 hour special for mater's tall tales series but the higher ups said that they would prefer it to be a sequel or maybe because the higher ups demands of wanting to selling toys and make more money the movie was doomed.
You should do a video on all the HotWheels Series/movies.
Highway 35 World Race
Acceleracers
Battle Force 5
Team Hot Wheels
And otheres that i don't remember/know about
I actually like cars 2 for it's wide range of cars and action, and i think it's just over-hated
How did Mater get caught by the lemons they were in public right there by everyone and McQueen is not main in cars 2!
Ralph Breaks the Internet is another movie that ruined Disney again by destroying its 100th anniversary!
I've not watched the Cars on the Road series yet or Mater's Tall Tales, but I do enjoy watching the movie series (the first and third films). Cars 2 I may have to rewatch again cause I did see a few minutes of it several years ago and I wasn't too impressed w/ it. Both movies really follow how a protagonist goes from a hotshot to a mature character dealing with life and experience. Plus, it does capture the spirit of both racing and Americana since it is set in most parts of the US.
Also, not only were George Carlin and Teresa Gallagher on the first two films each, but Thomas' Japanese voice actress Keiko Toda was the voice of Sally in all three movies (isn't this cool how she voiced two blue sentient modes of transportation in the Japanese dub or what?).
Cars, Along with Bob the Builder, Planes, Rory the racing car and Thomas the Tank Engine are imo the best medias involving talking vehicles
Meanwhile, Super Wings, Robot trains, Robocar poli, Mighty Express, Ricky Zoom, Olly the little white van, the stinky and dirty show, Batwheels, All Engines Go, Dive Olly Dive, Chuggington, Finley the fire engine, Dinotrux, Firebuds, Wheely fast and hilarious, Zerby Derby, Terrific Trucks, Jungle Junction, Trucktown, and some others aren't that good imo
As for Tayo and Airport Diary, they're OK
Wak's World Rebooted i know this video is about Cars but what is your opinion on Bluey
As stated in my Mighty Express video it’s pretty good!
@@WaksWorld05Whats your opinion on Robocar Poli?
@@WaksWorld05They have a bunch of episodes and 5 season + with merch, Toys games and books and some DVDs!
@@WaksWorld05and it on the channels on Treehouse tv EBS Minimax and Jimjam! + It aired from 2011-2022!
@@RAtheGoodRailfanner_888good I guess?
Also, isn't Blade voiced by Ed Harris?
Oh shit, I think I had a Mandela effect, I swear Estrada voiced him as a homage.
@@WaksWorld05 Estrada voiced Blade's partner Nick. I also just found out Ed Harris was a guess star in the CHiPs episode "Vegabonds."
@@ThomasFisher-jr6bn I mixed them up oops
I’m surprised that you considered cars as second best.
50:20 that is not a deus ex machina. A deus ex machina is where a character is backed into a corner and then another character who has not at all been previously established comes out of nowhere to fix everything. At the same time, it feels outlandish that Blade was repaired that fast, but it’s still not a deus ex machina. You’ve clearly gotten lost on that term as a result of CinemaSins.
I’m pretty rusty with my movie terms sorry bout that.
An example of a deus ex machina is in the ducktales(2017) season 2 finale where penumbra comes out of nowhere and saves the duck family by crashing into lunarasis’s giant spaceship and saving them and the earth. That’s an example of a deus ex machina done well because penny was an established character already.
You said it yourself, Penny was an already established character. Therefore not making it a deus ex machina. As I've already mentioned, CinemaSins has absolutely twisted the definition of that term.
So much for me watching a parody series of them, CineMare Sins
I’m surprised that you chose Cars as second best.
Huh, so in a weird way...what Cars 2 was to the Cars franchise is what Thomas & The Magic Railroad was to the Thomas franchise, a very ambitious movie that tried implementing concepts that just didn't work that just tanked and also screwed over the perceptions the public have about these franchises.
Another thing about Cars 2? So basically...Cars 2 was too overly ambitious for it's own good. I also see why Unlucky Tug said they were really trying to do too much for this movie and that they should only prioritize one over the other, maybe two instead of three if done correctly. Depending on the person, a really boring movie may be worse than a really bad one and vice versa. I do think Cars 2 is memorable, unforgettable and interesting...even if it's undeniable pretty much for all the wrong reasons. The fact it may not necessarily be boring or lazy may actually be a detriment because you'll never EVER forget about all the bad, the kind of bad that the production team put so much passion in that it will never be forgettable, from your first watch. So basically for some people, you included, and please don't anyone take this analogy as a joke because it isn't, watching Cars 2 is like going through multiple ***king wars that only brought severe controversy/backlash from the public and the everlasting PTSD for those experiencing it. I don't necessarily hate Cars 2, I'm kinda indifferent on it, but I'm well aware you clearly hate it. Like seriously, I mean Cars 2 is already universally really despised by many (Now what is bigger than universal for you then by Cars 2 standards, hm...?) and it did also kickstart the streak of Pixar's bad films (it didn't even just derail the perception of the Cars franchise in general) but you even went so far to say it's not hated enough, I think the analogy I made earlier probably suits how much you despise Cars 2 like it's really that bad.
*Ahem* That said, I definitely agree about Cars 1 and 3 being the best of this franchise, beautiful symbolism, worldbuilding realistically suitable for the world of Cars, and Lightning McQueen is a very good protagonist with an amazing character journey. Cars 1 is the start of his career while Cars 3 is the conclusion of his career...now if only Cars 2 lived up to it's predecessor's standards and actually focus Lightning McQueen at the peak of his career (which would be very appropriate for his character journey) but eh, what's done has been done.
Huh thats a actuly a very good comperherison
❤❤❤❤❤❤
29:08 Don't take this personally, but I hate that phrase by Animat.
I have a Cars DVD.
Nice, look forward to my next video as it’s about robots (not Korean ones but Thomas adjacent ones)
I have all 3 of them on DVD
Personally I love all 5 movies, and the shorts and the TV series.
Hey wak’s! I pretty sure cars 2 was bad! But I don’t hate cars 2 remember about lightyear turning red the good dinosaur and elemental are bad Pixar, you know but finn mcmissile holley shiftwell are good characters ( you know same like nia and Rebecca from Thomas, still are nice girl) also mater is my favourite character but this sequel Pixar has great merch diecast and Lego, plane is only good spin off metro been scrap if Pixar would make spin off of cars series and finn mcmissile have own spin off would be cool.
My least favorite Pixar movies are Toy Story 4 and lightyear
I’m surprised that you considered cars as second best.
