When Velvet revolution happened I was 9 years old. I celebrated with schoolmates, sand "Truth prevails" songs but did not really understood what happened. I understood much much later how critical step it was only after I learnt to appreciate freedom and democracy our country gained. And in my 40s I finally understood in its full debth what sacrifice our 1st president made for us and what privilige it was that he was our president... Thank you Mr. president!!! Cheers from Ostrava.
Dedicated from one great singer/songwriter to an other great politician always fought for the human rights in his country the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic Although he had a bad health he continued fighting for the human rights even when his country became independent of Russia in 1990 from belonging to Russia due to the Iron Curtain that was drawn in 1945 after WW II splitting Europe into two parts: a Western and an Eastern part until at the end of 1989. Unfortunately Vaclav Havel already died a very long time ago but I think many citizens of his country have very good memories of him! Greetings from Holland Many thanks for this very rare and - until now - unknown video!
Thank you from the heart of the US Embassy for the publication of such memories like this. And we are appalled at how the name of Vaclav Havel treat people who divide the country into mutually invading camps, they pollute the history of their own nation and despise people who do not like it.
Leaders like Václav Havel and George H. W. Bush are missed so much these days. Beautiful and emotional video. "Bridge over Troubled Water" is one the best songs ever written!
Such a great emotional and intelligent leader in difficult times for our country, I am just little bit sad, that current foreign politics of Czech government heading to much to east and not following way, which hardly Vaclav Havel gain for us ...
