We all know about her singing but her acting?!! OMG you could see the sadness in her eyes even the parts when she was smiling! She pulled off the 'sad smile' and seemed about to cry all the time. Hands down
I can't stand it when people scoff at and discredit this lady just because she's on a TV show. Whether you're a 'Gleek' or not, there's no denying that Lea is an incredible singer, and actress for that matter. People shouldn't let the fact that's she's in a mainstream TV series cloud their opinion of her talent.
This is fantastic. She has classical vouce training. Creating the effortless high notes that is not forced or pushed. Allowing range of emotion and vocal colors, alliwing her to communicate filly and uplift the listener Sadly, this kind of exquisite legit musical theater singing is getting rarer to hear these days.
top three eponines: 1) lea salonga hellooo (of course...duh do not even argue this) 2) samantha barks (wish she had an oppurtunity to play her on west end/broadway) 3) lea michele (after seeing this amazing performance for the first time) (also wish she could play this role on broadway)
I noticed that she doesn't breath with her "belly" but still she has a pretty crazy control on the diaphragm, and hold the notes for a very long time. Really impressive.
I really really love Samantha Barks and the 25th Anniversary is still my favourite Les Mis performance but on the movie it really should have been Lea Michele as Eponine
I get so dissapointed when I come to watch a Lea video and find all the fans of other singers trying to play one-up. At least be a little grateful to Lea for the little girls asking parents what Broadway is.
You guys realize this is what she is known for? This is what she is trained in, not pop. Loved glee! Was a total Gleek, but this is what she is great in.
And that's why this song (with Lea singing) is preceded by the video of her when she was little singing "Castle on a Cloud." She did a great job in Les Mis
i was watching the first episode of glee last night with my dad (lol) trying to get him into it (didnt work) anyway, i had forgotten how amazing of a singer lea is, and decided to read her wikipedia bio and screamed when i found out she turned down the role of eponine on broadway whyyyyy
On my own Pretending he's beside me All alone I walk with him till morning Without him I feel his arms around me And when I lose my way I close my eyes And he has found me In the rain the pavement shines like silver All the lights are misty in the river In the darkness, the trees are full of starlight And all I see is him and me forever and forever And I know it's only in my mind That I'm talking to myself and not to him And although I know that he is blind Still I say, there's a way for us I love him But when the night is over He is gone The river's just a river Without him The world around me changes The trees are bare and everywhere The streets are full of strangers I love him But every day I'm learning All my life I've only been pretending Without me His world will go on turning A world that's full of happiness That I have never known I love him I love him I love him But only on my own
The problem with the le mis movie was that instead of getting strong singers they got strong actors, so the movie was well acted but the music wasn't out to snuff, lea would have been a great musical choice, very powerful voice but Samantha's got a very strong voice aswell coz she's from broadway, so I think they made a good choice with Samantha but I'm not sure about the choice to cast Amanda Seyfried and Russell Crowe, they voices weren't very good but I was pleasantly surprised at good Ann Hathaway and Hugh jackman were :)
Joseph Blood Amanda has a good voice, too bad that they made her sing like that in the movie (which made me hate Cosette throughout just because of the way Amanda was forced to sing like that)
Lea is from Broadway as well... she grew up doing Broadway and was in the original cast of spring awakening... shes got it all. Lea just wasn't meant to get the part.
The best part: no vibratos all the time! This is the only thing about american broadway singers that I hate! The whole song is vibrating... she did amazing
You do realize that this is a Les Mis concert, as opposed to a full production of the musical, right? In a concert setting like this with a song like On My Own you either go big or you go home. If you'd ever seen her in Spring Awakening on Broadway I can't imagine you'd question her ability as a singer or an actress.
Para mí es la mejor versión, desde no solo vocal sino interpretativa, un verdadero análisis de letra y matiz correcto en donde la letra lo pide. La versión de 1985, es súper emocional, también se lleva un aplauso de mi parte.
I love the way she starts soft and ends it strong and powerful. No offense to Samantha Barks, but how I wish Lea Michele was the one who played Eponine in the movie version of Les Miz.
I think that Lea Michele is very underated in this show , she clearly has a very good understanding of the role and can sing it incredibly well , its also very individual to her , most will play the role as just sad , however lea's interpretation takes you on a roller coaster of emotions , she is difficult but boy can she sing.
As much as I like this song & Lea's performance here, I like the movie version better because the way they slowed it down, it actually makes more sense to me because of what this song is about. Sounds more emotional slowed down.
she is a dream come tru. I just wish they would do some Bette on glee. wind beneath or the rose! Lea is by far the best voice I have ever hear atleast top 3. if poss I would have her sing at my wedding if I ever get married
I'm happy that Samantha got the role of Éponine in the movie; she really deserved it! Nothing against Lea Michele she is amazing too, but I love Sam's Éponine. I would rather have Lea than Taylor for the role.. That's for sure haha
The difference between how Lea S. And Lea M. On how the way they had sang this song is that Lea M. Showed too much emotions by her facial expressions. On the other hand Lea S. She was still but with just her voice and interpretation, even without watching her and by just listening as she sing, you'll be attached and touched on the message of the song. The emotions are already in her voice.
I've always thought Lea S. can't act for beans. I live how Lea M. does Eponine. I've always seen E as a Juliet. She's young, she's living in a world where she's surrounded by larger than life everything. She's almost a child in a way. She lives in a fantasy as much as she can because (as Lea shows so beautifully and emotionally here) she can hardly bear to face the reality. I adore how she does this performance
"A WORLD THAT'S FULL OF HAPPINESS THAT I HAVE NEVER KNOOOOOOOOOOO"-- guy says 'wow' --"OOOOOOOOOWN"
leedleleedlee I think we all went 'wow'. I know I did!!!
leedleleedlee it definitely is worth wowing for
We all know about her singing but her acting?!! OMG you could see the sadness in her eyes even the parts when she was smiling! She pulled off the 'sad smile' and seemed about to cry all the time. Hands down
LorenaLoo that's why she is a Broadway artist
LorenaLoo definitely
I can't stand it when people scoff at and discredit this lady just because she's on a TV show. Sorry Michelle Nicastro does a better job…check hers out!
Flawless. Best version of the song that exists. So much control and emotions it's insane.
She is so fucking amazing. like wow. if i could ever be half the singer she is I'd be happy.
One of the best renditions I’ve heard. She starts soft and innocent, then gets angrier and more powerful. So good!!!
Her expressions! Ahhhhhhhhhhh.
top three eponines:

3) lea michele (after seeing this amazing performance for the first time) (also wish she could play this role on broadway)
Sam has played her many times on broadway!
@@user-ub8oi7oh3r nope she actually was in the West End Production, not on Broadway :)
@@musicalbitz5922 She worked on Spring Awakening from the age of 14. But she was young Cosette at age 8.
I love Samantha Barks, but watching this video, it's hard for me to see how she wouldn't make an amazing Éponine in the movie adaptation.
Lea Michele......my god what you do to me. She. Is. Perfect.
Such a powerful and beautiful voice. She's amazing.
I love Samantha Barks too, and I agree.
Why? Samantha is better.
I fail to see why it SHOULD have been Lea.
Cesar Gonzalez because we think lea's
better, wasnt that obvious?
Sebastian Dietl i think its cuz lea chose to stay in spring awakening, i think they asked her but she would have to leave SA, and she didn't want to
***** wasn't that a revival or something? I think the movie was done after her SA time... Not sure though
I get so dissapointed when I come to watch a Lea video and find all the fans of other singers trying to play one-up. At least be a little grateful to Lea for the little girls asking parents what Broadway is.

And that's why this song (with Lea singing) is preceded by the video of her when she was little singing "Castle on a Cloud." She did a great job in Les Mis
So perfect , so emotion , she really can sing
I get goosebumps everywhere, every time I hear her sing.
God dammit Lea, I'm crying. Remake of Les Mis with Lea as Eponine needed and maybe then I'll love it even more.
It's impossible not to cry while watching this brilliant performance, what a talented woman
The more I watch the more chills I get... absolutely amazing
Her voice is so beautiful 😍 I legit started crying
Lea michele does the best version of this song by far!
no
nope
yes
Lea Salonga's version says hi.
Joshua Pelayo sorry but Lea Salonga is 1,000,000 x much better than her.
This is the best live vocal of "On my Own" I've heard
I like it... I was distracted by how she was singing about how the lights were misty in the river, but she was looking up to the sky.
BRO I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE
She’s such an amazing actress ♥️
I love that she doesn’t use as much vibrato, that’s what I usually dislike about other versions
There’s vibrato on every note lol. Maybe it’s harder to hear on a crappy live recording..
@@Rae_777 yeah but the vibrato on the other performances are way over the top. lea does it at an acceptable amount
it’s probably cus this is a classic theatre song and not a pop song… but i get what you mean 🙈
lea is so amazing.
"Wow"...i felt that
goosebumps...bloody hell
two Leas slayed this role for sure!
The acting, the singing.. what a masterpiece. Thanks for the upload!
This song makes my soul ache. It is the reason I fell in love with Les Mis. Cosstte is ok, but j'adore Eponine.
Ok but she hands down has the best acting of any eponine I’ve seen (and Samantha barks in the movie).
i was watching the first episode of glee last night with my dad (lol) trying to get him into it (didnt work) anyway, i had forgotten how amazing of a singer lea is, and decided to read her wikipedia bio and screamed when i found out she turned down the role of eponine on broadway whyyyyy
She got a role in another broadway show called Spring Awekening
She started work shops for Spring Awakening at age 14. She was the original lead in it.
Ridiculously amazing !!!!
she is so amazing wow perfect
Stunning performance.
so good!
This version of the song and Lea Salonga's are the best!
It's 2017 and I'm still shook!
“All my life, I’ve only been pretending”
Will we ever say the words with feeling😢
I was so passionately lip singing with this performance. This is my favorite version of on my own!!!! 😢😄
On my own
Pretending he's beside me
All alone
I walk with him till morning
Without him
I feel his arms around me
And when I lose my way I close my eyes
And he has found me
In the rain the pavement shines like silver
All the lights are misty in the river
In the darkness, the trees are full of starlight
And all I see is him and me forever and forever
And I know it's only in my mind
That I'm talking to myself and not to him
And although I know that he is blind
Still I say, there's a way for us
I love him
But when the night is over
He is gone
The river's just a river
Without him
The world around me changes
The trees are bare and everywhere
The streets are full of strangers
I love him
But every day I'm learning
All my life
I've only been pretending
Without me
His world will go on turning
A world that's full of happiness
That I have never known
I love him
I love him
I love him
But only on my own
I really can't choose between her and Sam, but damn she slays!
Jamie_Jewel It's a 50/50 for me Samantha is an amazing actor but Lea's voice gives me goosebumps.
This was so much better than when she did it for glee a year later!

Anne was terrible
Lea is from Broadway as well... she grew up doing Broadway and was in the original cast of spring awakening... shes got it all. Lea just wasn't meant to get the part.
Agreeed
Joseph Blood imo I thought Anne Hathaway and the school boys were the only good ones. Obviously Samantha barks was incredible.
this definitely deserves the spot in the las culturistas great global songbook
the katies are here
i was lucky enough to see this live. wanna see her in wicked...
She's so talented!
GOD! I LOVE this sonG SO much! It doesn't really matter to me which Eponine is singing it (I love the character), I fight back tears EVERY time!
Lea Michele is hands down the best Xxxxxxx
I love her she is the absolute best!
The best part: no vibratos all the time! This is the only thing about american broadway singers that I hate! The whole song is vibrating... she did amazing
so moving and soulful!
i love this talented woman so much
SHE IS LITERALLY THE BEST!
Totally agree. I read your comment and keep waiting for that moment and even though prepare for some surprise, I still "wow"
Wow her singing is AMAZING but her acting is PERFECT

no se por que cuando vi esta actuación comencé a llorar fue mucho lo que transmitía en ese momento Lea Michele simplemente es Increíble
I see why they had her sing this song in the pilot episode for Glee because she did such a great job
I cried!!!!
The best voice😀
I Love Her♥
Para mí es la mejor versión, desde no solo vocal sino interpretativa, un verdadero análisis de letra y matiz correcto en donde la letra lo pide. La versión de 1985, es súper emocional, también se lleva un aplauso de mi parte.
I feel as if she's the only Eponine who doesn't use very much vibrato...
Priya Writes I like it
Priya Writes She doesn't over use it, theres a difference :)
She knows when to use it
@@MrsCurrant 💯💯
Amazed. Thats it.
serious chills.
She was made to sing this song.
She is the most gifted person ever!
amazing !!
I love the way she starts soft and ends it strong and powerful. No offense to Samantha Barks, but how I wish Lea Michele was the one who played Eponine in the movie version of Les Miz.
I LOVE her version.
She and Samantha Barks are my favourites!
I agree with the gentleman at 2:36; "Wow" indeed!
It’s ironic because John Lloyd Young was her boyfriend at the time and she’s singing about how he doesn’t like her back lol.
BEST SINGER IN THE WORLD!!!
I think that Lea Michele is very underated in this show , she clearly has a very good understanding of the role and can sing it incredibly well , its also very individual to her , most will play the role as just sad , however lea's interpretation takes you on a roller coaster of emotions , she is difficult but boy can she sing.
amazed by this version.. I will see this musical in August in London!! wish I had the opportunity to hear her sing live, too bad I won´t :(
My queen ♥️
Olha esses beltings 😱😍
lea michele and salonga absolutely crushed this song!
wow she's amazing !!
perfection
She's very good.
eponine rocks i would like to see lea in the movie but sam barks was also excelent

Ok by far my favorite besides Samantha Barks and to the people who are hating this is blind Lea Michele has a good voice and is very good as Eponine
Her 1st broadway show at 8 yrs old was young Cosette.
I am crying.
She’s the best
I'm happy that Samantha got the role of Éponine in the movie; she really deserved it! Nothing against Lea Michele she is amazing too, but I love Sam's Éponine. I would rather have Lea than Taylor for the role.. That's for sure haha
"she maybe difficult but boy, can she sing, bravo!!!"
2:36 wow
Only in a super egotistical hypomanic state do I ever think I can sing as well as she can.
she is the best. TIH BEST EPONINE
I fucking love her voice. This made me cry!! lol =)
