      In ~2000, Warp records artists were doing a lot with noise textures as a percussion element (Plaid's Double Figure and P-Brane EP; Autechre's Chiastic Slide through Confield; RDJ's Drukqs). Even though what was called IDM didn't really ever become mainstream, I still put this era of music up against any electronic music ever made.

    I don't understand why music like this isn't what's mainstream. Like the talent and time put into this blows anything on the radio out of the water by far. Such detail in sound design is nuts.

    • @Wcburg1
      @Wcburg1 11 лет назад +15

      I agree, I mean can you even compare the amount of talent you need to make this kind of stuff to that which you need to make all the cheesy pop songs people listen to nowadays? So many of those pop songs use the same few goddamn chord progressions for practically every song... and to think, the people that work so hard at crafting such a track as this don't even sell half as many records. It's sad, to say the least.

      Will Burghard
      to add to that, anyone who says an electronic musician isnt a musician doesnt know what theyre talking about, putting your creativity in the form of drum machines and synths doesnt make you less of a musican than any band or artists who plays actual instruments

    • @D1rtyraver
      @D1rtyraver 10 лет назад +28

      I am not a fan of pop music, but just because Squarepusher is ultra-complex, doesn't mean it's harder to produce than pop. The ones who make GOOD pop music are just as skilled as the ones who make GOOD electronica. In some ways, electronica is easier because there are no rules.

      D1rtyraver you're a little looney i think, or just simply uneducated. SP's track 50 Cycles took a dedicated month to compose. Most pop albums are recorded and sent out for publishing in that time period.

    I still remember when this came out. Warp records had some kind of contest for Go Plastic videos, and I think this one won.
    Coming back to this 22 years later, it still does a great job at visually capturing the different moods and textures of this track, which still seems so dense with ideas.
    I especially like the motif where the "rounder" sine-wave-like sounds are represented by smoother visual elements, especially the siren sound halfway through which is depicted as almost feminine.
    The video and song still hold up really well! Would still put this up against any electronic music put out today.

      Yes he is the GOD of all electronic music. Sadly most people dont know shit and it really is a crime when a decent DJ does not know of the almighty. I once showed a pretty good DJ this song whilst dosing on a heavy amount of shrooms (squarepusher is probably THE best high music of life) and literally changed his way of life (just like psychedelics should do) because of this music. DONT BELIEVE IT? Take a heavy amount of acid and listen to many squarepusher songs and you will understand
