I was at the August 27 show at the Forum...the night Gene's hair caught fire ! It was crazy for minute, but he came back onstage and they finished the show without a glitch ..I also got backstage..but the band members had already snuck out by that time..But i did get to see their stage setup from the back end..I was only thirteen and had no idea of the magnitude KISS would have on me and my own musical style...Great time of innocence.

This being your first concert was great but didn't it make many others that followed seem to pale in comparison? I guess maybe not, each show is special in their own way that night. Still, this had to be one of the best you've seen. When KISS is on they're on. I've only seen one show better than KISS when they've been on & that was Metallica back in the day, Justice tour.

Yup I saw this tour 10 days earlier up in San Francisco August 16th 1977 it was the night Elvis Presley passed away. Paul Stanley dedicated Rock &Roll all night to Elvis. KISS rocked, and your right Cheap Trick was awesome as the opening act!!!!!!!! 👍🎸
I was there at 14 years old and was blown away for my 1st concert ever. I will never forget sitting in the floor seats way in the back but when the fire shot up from the sides of stage how I could feel the heat like it was right in front of me !
Mine also! 14 years old and i went on sunday night. A few months later I won tickets on KMET to KISS Meets The Phantom and was front and center for the filming. Good Times!

That is his old Les Paul de Luxe from 73 he made into the smoker and later the rocket guitar. The neck caught fire and burned, but was brought to a luthier end converted into a double cut away. If you find the picture from Ace in the hole studio (his own) he is sitting in Love Gun suit and guitars are around him.
I was there! Amazing night that I still remember well. We didn't have venues the size of the LA Forum in the UK at the time (not outside London anyway), so it was awe inspiring.
@@MENFUSSMIKE I'd got into Kiss a couple of months before I flew to the USA, and when I got there, my sister had bought tickets! Wasn't aware of Van Halen in 77, but saw them the next year in the UK supporting Black Sabbath!

Alive 2 was the 1st record I bought with my own money. Still have it. I was 9 then. I miss those days. Not only was their music Killer back then but you didn't know WHAT THEY LOOKED LIKE. It was INSANE.
It's a shame this show isn't complete and in higher quality. Looks like they killed it that night... ... in spite of the ever ridiculous Gene Simmons. And Doctor Love... ... Arguably Ace's best solo, and still my favorite 😎👍
@R.G. Kooper + Aces lead on Alive II is definitely much cleaner without all the eight note rests, and sloppy delay effect. And the analog harmonizer dont help it. But Eddie Kramer definitely knew how to edit that lead perfectly! If you have ever read up on Alive II, then you will know that most of Aces tracks were kept intact.
@R.G. Kooper + I just saw that RG. I meant to say that its him playing live, but shortened to make it fit the album. I know that Alive II was hardly live. But I had read that Aces guitar track was the only thing that they kept to keep the tempo of the songs.
I will say again, they always talk about how the show recordings weren't good enough to release....but I'm not hearing anything bad here!! Just killer energy. And Ace sounding great as usual.
I think it’s more a vocal issue, the way they jumped around, there was bound to be less than perfect vocals, and of course that’s what they want preserved on albums.
The bootleg audio of this show was my first I ever had back in 1979. I think I wore it out. Amazing show! At least we have Houston 77 to remind us when rock and roll was awesome!
Christine 16 was a good radio song in the summer of 1977. It got a lot of radio play in my area when Love Gun came out that summer. Now that I think about it, after Rock and Roll All Nite, Peter had two hits with Beth and Hard Luck Woman, and Gene had two hits with Calling Dr. Love and Christine 16. Ace had one with New York Groove. Although Paul wrote Hard Luck Woman, he didn’t have his own hit until Dynasty.
I was in 1st Grade when Alive II came out. That was my first introduction to KISS. And because of the record sleeves, I learned about all the other records they already had out. Pretty cool hearing the "unfixed" stuff.
Great job guys! Even if the band were to eventually release something similar, this compilation will easily stand as one of the most important archival efforts of the Love Gun/Alive II era.

these guys were amazing. I can see why they couldn't last forever. They were just too hot, too much fire needed to create this & there's no way something like that will last forever. Even the reunion, as cool as that was, wasn't this great.
This is another amazing piece of footage ! It also clearly demonstrates how much they "fixed in the mix" ! A high energy live performance from Kiss in the late '70s didn't make for a very high quality recording. I am still of the opinion (it's just my opinion) that Eddie Kramer used the recordings from the Budokan shows as the bed tracks for the Alive II album. Watch the Budokan video and then listen to Alive II. You be the judge. Still love this video !! kiss8mmfilms rocks it, every time !!

I remember my brother and me got to the Cow Palace at around 2pm (I think they opened the doors at 6pm?) and the line of people were already out to Geneva Ave. I kind of remember it took the crowd a little bit of time to warm up to Cheap Trick, but maybe after 3-4 songs they got into CT. KISS rocked the night and remember that Paul Stanley dedicated Rock & Roll all night to Elvis Presley!!!!!! 👍

If Cheap Trick fronted for them then i was at this concert, my first, and i do remember genes hair caught fire. i was in the 7th grade at beverly vista. my ears were ringing all night as we were about 16 rows back on the floor right in front of their left side speaker bank. a little permanent hearing damage to this day. what a trip.
I agree with you on remembering them this way. I've loved Kiss since Destroyer and am still a fan just as much now even with all the member changes and such, but the ultimate Kiss was definitely the 1977-1978 era.
When KISS ruled the world! Most part of Avlive II where recorded in Japan during RARO-tour! Just some of the newer songs (love gun-songs) where taken from LA Forum and some where fabricated in studio like Tomorrow and Tonight, Hard luck woman!
My mom had an 8mm camera but it was too big to sneak in. I snuck a 110 photo camera in, thought I was getting away with murder until I got the pictures back. Couldn't even see the band! lol. This should of been recorded live for us fans? Thanks for matching the music to the film. Good Job!

Oh yeah baby, the original KISS with their original (Sean Delaney inspired) choreography. 100% live music which was magical in the days before VHS tapes, the internet and streaming. This is the stuff that inspired a generation of rock musicians in the 21st century.
I was around 10 when I first bought Alive and even than I was suspicious that it sounded to clean for a live album, compared to other live albums at the time, my skepticism was finally confirmed in the late 90's, when the band finally admitted that the album was a studio work. It doesn't matter, I still like the album, it's still KISS, studio work or not. I understand why they did it, I used to have a live album of the Beatles live at the Hollywood Bowl and for an official release it sounded like crap.
The band says that say recorded and archived the video and I would like to see it remastered and released as this was them at the pinnacle of their fame, and next to the reunion these are the best shows ever from a hungry and eager band. Not like today 2017.
Michael Marshall I think the shows they did on California for the Phantom Movie were better, and they recorded it with true cinema cameras and pro audio.
@@petera.michaelsen4657 they didn’t film the entire Magic Mountain show. I asked Paul Stanley at the official Montreal Kiss convention. He said film was so expensive that Hana Barbara only filmed specific songs and special effects sequences needed for the film, things that were in the script. .

I really think the Alive II edit of Aces lead is perfect in length, and nothing sloppy about it.

I saw Bowie at Winter land for his first Ziggy tour in 71-2. There were maybe 500 people there. I stood ten feet in front of him the whole show.

@@petera.michaelsen4657 they didn’t film the entire Magic Mountain show. I asked Paul Stanley at the official Montreal Kiss convention. He said film was so expensive that Hana Barbara only filmed specific songs and special effects sequences needed for the film, things that were in the script. .
