Regarding the small size: they made it as big as they could for using a standard 120v 15 amp outlet. It's 1760 watts, which is maxing out the outlet. To go bigger and still be able to attain the same temps would require higher wattage and a 20 amp outlet (usually non-residential) or 240v. The "sear" feature would present the same challenge: higher wattage.
@@santiagoaguilar8429yes, it’s using an electric heating element as it’s main source of heat. The pellets aren’t used for heat as much as they are used for flavor. With a pellet grill/smoker, the heat comes from the pellets itself. The electric draw on a pellet grill/smoker is used to power the controller, fan, auger, and a small heating element that is only used to initially start the pellet fire. Once started it no longer uses the heating element. The ninja is essentially an electric griddle with a lid and a side pot for burning pellets from the electric heater element. This only gets to about 400F unfortunately and you generally want to sear at 500+F . The fact that it’s pulling full current out of a standard outlet, there’s no going hotter or larger. This is a cool grill though for small easy smokes.
Nice video! I ended up getting it but I’d say, The ninja smoker definitely cooks some good smoked food but there’s a major learning curve to it. If you smoke you meats with the smoker setting, I’d recommend letting the smoker run for about 10 mins after pre-heat before putting in any of your food otherwise it will get that white smoke and your food will taste bitter and unpleasant.
Nice tip!. It does seem to have a bit of a learning curve to it. I also think it depends on if you ever used any other kind of smoker before. If you have it is a little harder I believe. If you haven't you don't have any habits or things that trip you up as much.
After forty years of marriage, I am taking on the cooking choirs. I love my wood fire grill. As far as cleaning, I spray with that Dawn Power wash, spay it rinse with clean water and a sponge then repeat as needed. I found a stainless steel wire brush works well in cleaning the wood hopper and the spring on the door. Overall, this is the only product i'll recommend to friends without any hesitation.
Just got my Ninji Woodfire Grill last week and I love it. I did find today a setting that is not listed in the Ninji literature, on the smoke setting you can turn the temp down till the display says CLD and cold smoke things like freshly cased sausages, cream cheese, and cheese which is going to be perfect for the Texas twinkies and armadillo eggs I plan to cook next week.
@@DadGotThis Apparently not. this is a feature of the Ninji Indoor Grill that is discussed in the literature documenting the features of the indoor grill. Go figure, they just forgot to include a really important feature for us grillers/smokers!

I am totally in love with the flavor these pellets deliver. Much better. I don't think I will ever return to using the ninja pellets again. 9:10 A searing temperature of 500+°F and non-stick coatings are mutually exclusive. Most non-stick coatings are considered 'safe' only up to a maximum temperature of 400°F.

A bigger option from Ninja would be a nice middle ground for someone who doesn’t want to or can’t commit to a full sized pellet grill and smoker such as a Traeger.
We have this grill and have zero complaints so far. We also went to Lowes and got a 40 lb bag of pellets for $18. Also, there's a bit of a learning curve to figure out times/temps to your preference of how well/rare your meats are done. A wireless thermometer is something I recommend as the grill tends to run on the hotter side.
Awesome! It always runs hotter due to the small size of the cooking chamber for sure. I always tend to cook at lower temps than most other cookers recipes, even the ones that came with it can be too high if you are smoking not air frying.

Interesting, I have not had that issue with the pellets not igniting except once where I think they were packed too tight. I think they need to be a little loose to allow air to circulate.

I love mine, it’s easy & I can easily cook for 1. No mess to clean up like ashes, coals or wood& it doesn’t take up a lot of room. Ninja makes good products & I highly recommend this little grill.
@@DadGotThis chicken wings, steaks pulled pork burgers. All came out perfect way better than most restaurants. This is really an amazing grill I have used many gas, charcoal and electric grills. The smoker and convection are a game changer on this one. One tip though I read where people say to refill the pellets on long cooks. To me this is unnecessary. The pellets have are just there to add smoky flavor. Even on a 3-4 hour cook one round of pellets is plenty for me. On anything quick burgers, wings etc. I only use a half scoop of pellets. Don’t like is when the smokiness overpowers the other flavors.
I have it too. Only complaint is the steel plates (grease drip guides) seen on either side of the lid towards the bottom when it is in the opened position (as seen here 12:10). They don't work at all. Grease drips right through the cracks and completely misses the drip tray. It makes a huge mess on the plastic handles on the OUTSIDE of the grill... for no great reason other than Ninja must not have done quality control or they just don't care that grease gets everywhere but in the tray.
@@DadGotThis Tried to contact ninja, but it's an old model OG701 product... gonna have to Lavalock it. Seems like only I have this problem... thanks for the response haha
I AM GUESSING FROM THIS REVIEW, IF YOU WERE BUYING ONE TODAY, YOU’D GO WITH THE NEWER XL MODEL? ALSO HAVE YOU NOTICED ANY BURNING OR RUINING OF THE SURFACE YOU HAVE THE GRILL SETTING ON? JUST ANOTHER QUESTION ABOUT THE GRILL AND PLATES, HOW DO THEY HOLD UP WITH METAL UTENSILS? OR ARE YOU NOT RECOMMENDED DOING CHOPPING OR CUTTING ON IT, LIKE YUO HAD MENTIONED IN THE VIDEO?
So far no burning of the surfaces I use the grills on. Yes, personally I would say the XL is the one to get. As far as metal on the grates I would highly advise against it. They would scratch for sure.
Honestly no, unless you never smoked in it. From what I hear there are chemicals from smoking that will make their way into the unit. Even if you are not using the smoke setting it can leech fumes when heated up. Those fumes can contain carbon monoxide and be very dangerous.
Thanks I just became a ninja product reviewer. I got the grill for free as well after viewing your video .. now I’m getting a bunch of free stuff I don’t have to review ..👍👍
Thanks brother. I’m ordering on the 29th. here in Canada, you can redeem your grocery store points for nearly all Ninja products. I had to buy a countertop on wheels to accommodate all my stupid appliances lol.
Thank you very much for the review, I have a question please what is the fundamental difference in the taste of the meat between the Ninja og701 woodfire model and the Ninja grill model Ninja IG601 Foodi XL?
@@DadGotThis Thank you very much for your quick reply🙂👍🏼 and is there a difference in the taste of the meat only, between the regular small ninja grill model ag301 and the big one with the heating below? Doesn't the bottom of the grill that heats up in the big ninja contribute to a good extra flavor for the meat?
I noticed you had a third-party probe. I am considering the model with the probe to save ruining meals. Or should I go with a probe like yours? I love the little tree in the background. What is it? Great review, thank you.
I like having the probe separate because you can use it in a lot of other places like the oven, another grill, a pan anywhere. If you get the attached one you are stuck with using it in the Woodfire. The tree behind me is a cassava. Thanks for watching!
had mine about month now, and im almost at the point where my oven in the kitchen is collecting dust, i must use mine 4-5 times a week (some days twice a day) , cooked joints of meat for a roast, whole spackcock chickens, quick wings for when missus is in a mood and ive got to feed her to stop her moaning, pizza (fresh or frozen) and even managed to cook a full english breakfast ( not eggs) .. tryng to get hands on the flat plate but they like unicorn poo, and i agree only issue is the size .. me, missus and 4 teenage boys its just the right size, but if we have the 2 older daugters round with their kids we going to struggle
i have a small space in the city so i can't have a proper grill or anything that spews fire for that matter, i can't help but wonder how does this stack up to cooking on actual coal/wood. does the meat get that lovely char that distinguishes it from something that's oven-cooked? i understand that i can't be 100% 1 to 1 to real fire, but does it even come close? because the sceptic in me makes it sound like it's a high powered contact grill without the top plate but with a smoker. for context, i'm from eastern europe where there is very little of american grill culture but a lot of cooking meat on wood, hence my hesitation
Ok to be honest you are not going to get a charcoal grilled, or wood fire direct cooked taste. Now as far as comparing it to a smoker where char is not really a factor the flavor is pretty close. However you can get great flavor similar by smoking then air frying or just air frying with the smoker which does produce a nice char.
Great video . I was getting ready to return this puppy after using it one time. I just received the small Ninja for Christmas. Last night was my first experiment. What I found is I couldn’t get the cheese to melt on top of the burgers. The heat was drawn out. Is there a hack to melt cheese on burgers?
SMASH BURGERS on the Ninja Woodfire Grill! Testing the Flat Top Accessory! ruclips.net/video/3PkIWEpiVBE/видео.html Lid closed for a bit worked for me. Check this video out for my favorite way to make burgers!
Good video idea for you. Try jerky on grill vs air fry basket. Im curious of the difference. Ive always used the basket on the smoker setting for jerky. Never tried the dehydrate function.
I will be waiting for the XL high temp version. The problem with high heat over 500 f is it will break down non stick coatings. It is probably the no 1 reason most non stick pans stop working after awhile. they could provide a pure cast iron or stainless steel cook surface for high temps. Come on Ninja you make an XL of everything else.
Do you know if you can Air Fry in the 7 in 1 grill without using the basket. Like can I use the setting but put the food on the grill that comes with it, is it the same effect. Also, booklet says don't refill with pellets ever, but then it says if you do fill before the pellets burn out completely?
I don’t see why you would not be able to use the setting without the basket. I think it just holds things. However it does allow for airflow below the food allowing it to crisp better. I did not see where it says not to refill. It even tells you how to reignite when you do.
Is their a difference in the amount of time the pellets will last .ninja pellets versus kona pellets. Is that a possible reason why the ninja pellets are more expensive? This is the first time i've watched your channel, I enjoyed it. You gave a Comprehensive and indepth review.
I did not notice any difference in burn time when using them. I would think even if there was it would have to be a HUGE amount to make up for the price and I should have noticed that. Thanks for watching and I hope you stick around and watch some more.
I am thinking about buying this thing - you were the one to definitely convince me :). In Europe where I live I see they offer 2 XL versions - Woodfire Pro Connect XL and Woodfire Pro XL. Much more expensive but as far as I can see it is a must :) - not sure what other differences are there between them, need to check. cheers and thanks

Ninja Foodi items are notoriously difficult to clean. I have the Ninja Foodi 10 in 1 XL Pro Air Fryer Oven and love everything about it except cleaning it. You have to thoroughly clean it each and every time you use it otherwise a sandblaster is the only thing that will clean those oven walls. Many people swear by the Pink Stuff (mildly abrasive) but so far I have just used soap, hot water and the hubby's elbow grease. Great review! I think this Ninja is next on my shopping list. I have the Ninja Foodi Smart XL Grill (indoor) as well.
Agree. Love our Foodie Grill/Griddle/Air Fryer. Don't worry that much about the spatter up and around the top. My big disappointment is the grill grate. It is a giant PIA to clean. Toss it in the dishwasher they say. Nope. Won't clean the stuck on stuff. Clean it by hand (without damaging the non-stick coating), not so easy to do. So, we mostly put foil or parchment under anything we cook on the grill if we're not looking for those grill marks.
I wanted to buy it, but it's not designed for steaks as the temperature doesn't get high enough for steaks :( So I am looking into Webber unit that gets to 600F and it's bigger too . I am curious if I can just implement my own "wood fire technology" by wrapping those pellets in tin foil an putting in on a grill.
I love my traeger for the whole set it and forget it like a crackpot. Was looking for something portable to take with me on my camping adventures and seen this vid. Thanks for a great review bro! 👍 Cheers 🍻
@@DadGotThis got a question! How come you can’t use regular pellets? What are special about THESE pellets? Size? Why not the regular every day pellets you get at your local store?
I'm curious how it can be so functional yet so small. It seems practical, but I guess your not cooking Thanksgiving dinner of it. But simple is good. I guess the one thing ya gotta watch for, is if its a good cooker, that ya don't leave on the back porch and it walks off. Being that small, probably easy to grab and run?
I did a pretty big pork shoulder, I saw 2 ladies do a 25lb turkey on it. You can wedge 2 racks of ribs in there. If you are smart you can get a lot in there.
I know nothing about pellets. Is there something specific about the Ninja pellets? The ones you mentioned from Amazon say they work for the Ninja, is why I am asking. Is this because of size?
Hi - you have some great videos, and you’ve probably already saved me a fortune in wood pellets with one of your other reviews 👍! I’m in the UK and I’ve just bought my first Ninja Woodfire Grill - interested to know if there’s a reason why the controls are different on the UK and US versions? On yours the rotary selector reads “OFF, GRILL, SMOKER, AIR CRISP, BAKE, ROAST, BROIL, DEHYDRATE”, but on mine it reads “OFF, SMOKER, GRILL, AIR FRY, ROAST, BAKE, DEHYDRATE, REHEAT” - why are some settings in different positions🤔? Also, does the US version have the hidden “ON/OFF” switch that’s on the UK one, tucked Waaay underneath the unit?
I bet it has to do with regulations in the EU or something. I know we get a cold smoke function and apparently you do not. You made me flip my u it over lol. No hidden switches.
If you are looking for that charred charcoal taste it is possible to come close. If you use charcoal pellets and use the air crisp (air frying) setting you get some nice char on things like chicken with a charcoal flavor. Same for steaks and chops etc. If you are doing a burger just on the grill setting you won't get that flavor because it is just like using a griddle, there is no flame kicking up on the food. I hope that makes sense???
Hello again, I wanted to ask please from your experience, is there a significant difference between the taste of the meat in a gas grill and a smoked ninja grill?
On actual smoked food yes. By that I mean things you smoke for hours like a pulled pork or brisket or ribs. On short cooks like chops, burgers, steaks you can get similar tastes using a smoke tube filled with pellets on a propane grill. The other thing to consider is the amount of propane used when you do a long smoke on a propane grill. I did some Memphis ribs that way and went through SO MUCH propane.
I just did a test on pellets that would help with that question. But the short answer is on most occasions it’s about 1 hour. I have seen it go less and they claim it can be two hours in some times. I have never gotten 2 hours. Does it matter what kind of pellets you use in the Ninja Woodfire Grill? FULL TEST! ruclips.net/video/cGcyVDDHZrg/видео.html
Can’t say I am the best to answer that o e right now. Living in Florida it has been a BILLION degrees out. Have not had it in winter yet. Not that we get much of a real “winter”. But stay tuned and I’ll be sure to let you know!
YEs, gas and charcoal are preferred but I have developed a nice sear technique on it though. If you use beef tallow and the flat top you can get a pretty awesome sear on beef at least.
From all the info I have seen the answer is yes. I use it on that table with a metal top and have never felt any heat transfer to the table. The legs are plastic and keep the hot part elevated.
it's rare to find reviews from someone who actually used the product. Thanks very much.

Glad it was helpful!
Got one a couple of weeks ago. Worth every penny best BBQ and smoker and so easy to use.
What is your favorite thing you have made so far?
I’ve never had that issue. Interesting.
Would be good to see an update on this, maybe in-depth review of the xl?
Sounds like a great idea!
You might have to change the plate for a sear setting since non-stick isn't heat safe really passed medium+ temperatures.
Oh I found my sear tool. ruclips.net/video/8d-alRhpZ9c/видео.htmlsi=HG6MQWGpPbzbFpqm
New sub to your channel, just got mine yesterday can’t wait to begin the journey! Cheers 🍻
It’s a fun and delicious journey!
Just got 8 different flavored 1lb. Bags of kona pellets for $32 during prime days. Thanks for the heads up!
I like them a lot.
Sam’s Club has a 40# bag of pellets for $14.98 right now!
Loved the review video, btw. Thanks!
That is a solid deal and you would have pellets for years lol!
Can you use the basic grill features indoors like a Foreman Grill?
Honestly no, unless you never smoked in it. From what I hear there are chemicals from smoking that will make their way into the unit. Even if you are not using the smoke setting it can leech fumes when heated up. Those fumes can contain carbon monoxide and be very dangerous.
Got one for Christmas it’s a beast !!!
They are great!!!
@@MapleTombstoneMT3 that’s awesome!!!
Thank you very much for the review, I have a question please what is the fundamental difference in the taste of the meat between the Ninja og701 woodfire model and the Ninja grill model Ninja IG601 Foodi XL?
Honestly I have not noticed any taste difference in the two machines. Just the one is bigger allowing for more to fit.
With all my gadgets I BARELY use my oven anymore. I really want an XL smoke fire!
Great review - in terms of the non-stick plate - do you know what materials are used? I try to avoid chemicals and plastics where I can.
It says “ceramic” but I don’t know the exact process.
Definitely want a bigger version! But love this thing.
If they made a bigger one I would be tossing my propane grill which is just sitting collecting dust right now for sure!
@@DadGotThisThere is a bigger one than that one tho
Just ordered mine! Excited to cook fish because I cannot stand cooking seafood in the house.
That makes a lot of sense.
With regard to deep cleaning could you use lemon juice and water to steam it clean
Good idea!
You mentioned the grill was small. What are the dimensions of the grilling surface and what is the limit on height? Thanks
By my measurements I got 14.5 wide 11 deep and about 5.5 tall before it hits the fan.
i have a small space in the city so i can't have a proper grill or anything that spews fire for that matter, i can't help but wonder how does this stack up to cooking on actual coal/wood. does the meat get that lovely char that distinguishes it from something that's oven-cooked? i understand that i can't be 100% 1 to 1 to real fire, but does it even come close? because the sceptic in me makes it sound like it's a high powered contact grill without the top plate but with a smoker.
for context, i'm from eastern europe where there is very little of american grill culture but a lot of cooking meat on wood, hence my hesitation
Great video thank you
Can you tell me how long the Power Cored is?
The cord is 48 inches long. But because of how it is connected underneath it not all of that is really usable. So I’d say like 44 is really usable.

Lid closed for a bit worked for me. Check this video out for my favorite way to make burgers!
Good video idea for you. Try jerky on grill vs air fry basket. Im curious of the difference. Ive always used the basket on the smoker setting for jerky. Never tried the dehydrate function.
I will have to give it a shot! I need to make a new jerky video anyway.
Nice review … look like a good Xmas present for Drew .. I have to order one 😊
Use my affiliate link 😂.
@@DadGotThis I will 🤪
I will be waiting for the XL high temp version. The problem with high heat over 500 f is it will break down non stick coatings. It is probably the no 1 reason most non stick pans stop working after awhile. they could provide a pure cast iron or stainless steel cook surface for high temps. Come on Ninja you make an XL of everything else.
There you go, giving options and not dashing my hopes! A cast iron plate!!!
well the XL is out . But I dont think it can hit over 500. I'll use the woodfire for smoking and the my propane grill for searing and griddle use
If you don’t need the Air Fryer feature the Outdoor oven does go to 700. Stay tuned for more info lol.
that was my concern as well, it just cannot get quite hot duet to electric nature of the unit
I will say that it gets hot enough for a good steak crust if you use beef tallow as the oil.
Love this guy’s style. Had to subscribe! #respect
Thanks!
The only real difference I know of is that the Pro Connect allows you to connect to it and control it via an App.
@@DadGotThiswell, it is larger, which was one of your cons, right? I got one on the way.

Looks like the grill plate is ceramic coated but the fryer basket is other "non-stick" material. I'll be using my old stainless steal basket I guess.
I will have to look at it closer.
Best way to clean it is to spend a few extra bucks for dawn powerwash foaming spray and using that to do a pre soak
I have heard people talk about it but this stuff works so well I can’t see how it could be that much better.
I clean my wood fire grill after each use with moist wipes and it works great
That's a good idea!
Honestly, a Mickey hat, and a Boba Fett shirt? Like, did we just become best friends?
I got through the first part of that comment and was like, are we gonna have a problem…then boom FRIENDS. 👊
I just saw something about the pink stuff online and was thinking of looking into it!

I think it would be a great option for camping! Thanks for watching!
@@DadGotThis got a question! How come you can’t use regular pellets? What are special about THESE pellets? Size? Why not the regular every day pellets you get at your local store?
Great question: I just did a whole test on this subject. ruclips.net/video/cGcyVDDHZrg/видео.html
great video....also, i need that shirt in my life
It is a pretty fantastic shirt :)
Can i used it inside the house only for air fry option? And when i want a bbq to take it outside?
No! There will be residual toxins from the smoke in the lid that when heated up will be released. It would be dangerous.
Stay tuned! I have a full test of pellets in the Woodfire grill launching next week!

Can I use it in a cold Canadian winter? Will it stand up to the cold?
Since I live in Florida and have not had it through a winter yet I can not give you a good answer on that one lol.
I had it through French winter, temperatures went as low as -5°C, no damage, but I put the cover bag around it
@@EtoileDeNeige we get to -35 F. Sooooo I think I will wait
How would you cook a beef joint in the smoker?
You need to tell me what a beef joint is first lol.
I’ve never had any food that has been “smoked.” I’m wanting a bbq grill taste for a hamburger, chicken, pork chop. Does this provide that taste?
If you are looking for that charred charcoal taste it is possible to come close. If you use charcoal pellets and use the air crisp (air frying) setting you get some nice char on things like chicken with a charcoal flavor. Same for steaks and chops etc. If you are doing a burger just on the grill setting you won't get that flavor because it is just like using a griddle, there is no flame kicking up on the food. I hope that makes sense???
I just ordered the xl version which should be arriving around May 15.
Nice!
For cleaning the top, do you think a small pot of boiling water and place it on a hot grill to steam the top and melt off the grease?
Great idea!!!
@@DadGotThis thank you very much 😊 🙏🏻
My only question is, how long will it smoke for on a full hopper ? Minutes, hours ?
I just did a test on pellets that would help with that question. But the short answer is on most occasions it’s about 1 hour. I have seen it go less and they claim it can be two hours in some times. I have never gotten 2 hours.
Does it matter what kind of pellets you use in the Ninja Woodfire Grill? FULL TEST!
ruclips.net/video/cGcyVDDHZrg/видео.html
Great review. Now I know to use the same pellets I use in my Traeger cooker.
Sure can!
If you lived in apartments that don’t allow BBQ grill would this be fine?
I would think so. The only time it puts out a lot of smoke is at the startup really. The amount of smoke question is answered in my latest video.
How does it work outside in the cold air in the winter??
Can’t say I am the best to answer that o e right now. Living in Florida it has been a BILLION degrees out. Have not had it in winter yet. Not that we get much of a real “winter”. But stay tuned and I’ll be sure to let you know!
Thank you this video. Has the coupon code expired? I couldn't get it to work for me.
I just tried it on my end and it worked. It took it from $369 to $329. Maybe it is a region thing? Where are you from?
@DadGotThis I realized this code only works on the standard version not the pro package. There is a different code for that one.
What is that code? I’ll add it to my description!
I recently bought one I love it !!! I ordered same pellets they come tomorrow. Have you done smoked baked beans in it? I want to try 😬
I have not tried those yet. Sounds like a plan!
@@DadGotThis you gotta try baked beans mine turned out amazing with great flavor!!!
If you want that sear then you gotta go gas grill or preferably charcoal. It’s a good unit but it has it limitations versus the non electric options.
YEs, gas and charcoal are preferred but I have developed a nice sear technique on it though. If you use beef tallow and the flat top you can get a pretty awesome sear on beef at least.
Does anyone know if theres a stainless steel griddle that will fit this? Trying to stay away from non stick! Ideally in the uk.
Unfortunately not that I have found.
I just ordered the OG700, is it safe to use this on a wood picnic table?
From all the info I have seen the answer is yes. I use it on that table with a metal top and have never felt any heat transfer to the table. The legs are plastic and keep the hot part elevated.
@@DadGotThis thanks
Outstanding!!!!!!!
