    Absolutely best video I’ve found. Owning a 1.6 about to throw power at it and have blown through a stock 1.6 diff with the stock horsepower. Do NOT want that happening again and I hear these 1.8 diffs are bulletproof. Will be following this videos instructions religiously☝️

      I can’t believe you even included the torque specs. Useless garage? Most useful video I’ve found on the subject by far.

      Thanks dude! You're the first to mention those details great minds think alike! Good luck with your diff swap

    As a fairly new (noob) Miata owner I can say I learned a lot from this video. You are a legend! :)

    I heard the driveshaft for the 1.6 and the 1.8 are different did you buy new one or did they come already?

    • @mostlyuselessgarage
      @mostlyuselessgarage  8 месяцев назад

      Correct, a 1.8 driveshaft came with the Torsen I purchased used along with the required axles.

    Did you buy new rubber for the lower bush mount plates or it’s just the painted metal to the poly bushings?

    • @mostlyuselessgarage
      @mostlyuselessgarage  Год назад +1

      Just the painted metal plates to the poly diff bushings. Get all the rubber triangles off both plates by chisel or 🔥.

      Oh man that sucks. I was able to reuse my bolts so I don't know the size. Sorry, wish I could be more helpful ☹️

      @@mostlyuselessgarage you’ve been helpful don’t worry. Did ur bolts come off the subframe or was it still stuck to them and only the nut came off?

    • @mostlyuselessgarage

      The centre one through the bushing is a 17mm nut and the other 2 are 12mm nuts.

    Why replace an open diff for an open diff? Torsen is trash, get a clutch pack LSD.

    • @mostlyuselessgarage
      @mostlyuselessgarage  Год назад

      Miata Torsen (TORque Sensing) differentials have a TBR of approximately 2.5:1 meaning it's capable of supplying up to 2.5 times more torque from one wheel to the other vs an open differential's 1:1. So they are not equivalent but conditionally if one wheel is unable to apply any torque (e.g. in the air or on ice), regardless of TBR 2.5 times zero equals zero, a Torsen and open diff behave similarly. Personally, when I track drive the my car it's neither airborne nor on ice (though ice racing does sound fun) and in practice the Torsen's a wonderful lap-time proven and broadly reliable upgrade. That said, the OS Giken clutch-type LSD is a known competition proven performance adder with a handsome price tag to match.

    • @Iseenoobpeoples
      @Iseenoobpeoples Год назад

      @@mostlyuselessgarage If one wheel can't handle 1/2.5 of the torque it will suddenly slip, no need to be airborne although it can happen, even with the throttle closed it makes the rear loose, torque application can unexpectedly switch from side to side. There is no way for me to drive fast with confidence using Torsen. With clutches the rear will perform the same every time, providing more traction and stability when you need it most. I would trust OS Giken, I went with Cusco, it is by far the best modification.
