The bottom 1/5th is 36% employed and makes on average $6900 per year but after taxes and social benefits nets $48000 per year. The 2nd 5th had 85% employment and made $32,000 per year. After taxes and social benefit netting $50,000. The 3rd 5th is 92% employed and after taxes nets $61,000. Seems like our government is doing a pretty good job of leveling the playing field. Makes me wonder why people work so hard if they can go on the assistance and live almost as well.
Might be same article...top 20% of income earners pay 84% of all income tax. The result is earning $180k per year nets barely more than $100k. While that may seem like a lot to someone earning and keeping $60k, it's a punch in the gut to have a husband and wife work decade's and pay school loans only to lose such a huge percentage to the govt.
