This is seriously depressing but so very true. As an “older person” I find it deeply saddening that in my lifetime, I saw the USA reach its zenith of prestige and power on 20 July 1969, only to see it precipitously decline over the subsequent half century to the sad Elite-greed convulsed, self-loathing and fractured society it is in 2023. So desperately sad. As an Australian I, like so many of my countrymen looked to America as the light of our species - flawed, yes as are we all, but at least trying to redress those flaws. Should the US fail, the replacement world hegemon will possess neither the humanity nor the introspection of the land of E. Pluribis Unum. Thanks to Victor Davis Hanson and John Anderson for the huge service of shining a light on this malaise.

I remember gathering around the TV to watch it, life in that period in time was completely different. A very extroverted society of very colorful, mainly good people. Parks on the weekends would be packed with family reunions, the carnival coming to town was a big deal. The only bad part was hearing about the daily casualties in Vietnam from Howard K. Smith or Harry Reasoner and hoping to stay up late enough to watch the Johnny Carson monolog. I'm sickened by what I've seen happen over the last three years, let alone 50, it seems like the digital fall of Rome 376-476. It's not a question of if, it's when.

No. I SPOKE THE TRUTH. NO "Red Wave"- that the very BEST that would happen, would be a tiny majority in the house- which would mean absolutely NOTHING, because there are maybe 30, who WILL VOTE with the Weaponized Progressives (WPs)? Because THEY ARE WPs.
This is what happened. This is what WILL happen. Because we've done NOTHING, to fix the base problem, which I've stated before it's nature, and solutions- but none care.

The problem we have with our system is not so much that "big tech" is anti-democratic as Victor Hanson was in that video. It's more like capitalism trumps democracy. That is the problem especially when we have a "donor owned" government. Not that what I'm about to say is about Donald Trump but just how the "system" works, "what was the first thing Donald Trump did when he took office in January 2017?" He rewarded his donors and he wasn't even ashamed of it. He rewarded them with a tax break, albeit a neoliberal or a neoconservative. It didn't matter to him...he got in office. And the same for a Democrat...they play by the same rules.
We have "Citizens United" for example. Corporations are considered "people" now. Corporations can give an unlimited amount of money to a candidate of their choosing. The Supreme court ruled in favor of it. It never used to be this way but times have changed...morals have changed. So, politicians respond to how they're incentivized. You have Bernie Sanders, for example...all his talk about "corruption" and having a "political revolution" was just nonsense. He ended up endorsing a candidate like HC who stands for the very things he's against...neoliberalism (neoliberalism is an economic policy). Go figure. How do you do that? Oh, 'cause Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump! Nonsense! He needed to stick to his guns but instead betrayed all who followed him...he deceived them. It turns out that he's done nothing more than "sheep dog" voters to the Democratic party...a party like the Republican party who had long ago sold out to the corporate state. This is where we get our fascistic undertones. And speaking about Sanders and corruption, it wasn't too long ago that he took $200k from his campaign fund and put it in his family's non profit family business. How does that grab you?
Fascistic undertones are right under our noses (whether Dem. or Rep.). Democracy? It's an illusion. There is none in a donor owned government. It's "socialism" for them and harsh capitalism for the rest of us. The rich love socialism only when it favors them but when it's meant for the betterment of society (I'm not suggesting we get rid of capitalism), they don't want to pay into it. This is one of the biggest reasons why we can't have Med4all. But, no matter how bad inflation gets, we have money for the Ukraine...no problem. What's in it for the middle and lower classes? The majority of the money doesn't really go to the Ukraine, does it? It goes to American corporations (MIC) that manufacture the stuff that's used in war...munitions, guns, food etc. Everything that's needed to sustain those in a war...that's what goes to the Ukraine. We all pay for it and part of that money makes its way back to politicians (a win-win...one for the corporation and the other, the politician). Have you ever thought about how much the wealthy really pay? And then we have the deficit. I guess that's the fault of the middle class, too without having any real control of the macro economy...as if they're the employers, right? I wonder why the UAW workers are striking? Think they were getting a fair shake? In an interview, GM CEO Barra who makes millions has to say the workers get "world class" healthcare. That's just it, it's to the advantage of GM to have it including small companies. How many workers stay because of healthcare? If they leave they lose it. Employers understand this. Another reason why we can't have Med4all. Btw, GM plans to idle 2000 workers.
The problem is that the American public, particularly the middle class continues to do the very definition of "insanity" expecting a different outcome. Nothing will ever change. We need more than just a two party system. We can use more. Perhaps then they'll start to listen? It will probably put fear in their hearts.

If you don’t have the courage or intelligence to look at political agendas you fully deserve every single catastrophe that comes your way. And do not plead ignorance, American voters seem to view politics in the same way they do sports, my team vs your team. Voting for the other party becomes an ego issue. “I can never be wrong”. Add this attitude to the way they obey the media. They only watch the side that repeats what they have in their echo chambers, again an ego issue. The American voter created this quagmire and, in keeping with hubris, lack the ability to accept any blame for the situation.

I came to america from south korea when i was 9 months old. No south korean would be free today if it weren’t for all the americans and allies who died in the korean war. I joined the marines after high school and became a us citizen while enlisted. If you are going to immigrate to a country, you must respect the people and the culture of your host nation by assimilating as much as possible

The problem with what's going on with how the middle class is being treated is that the ones who are doing it truly don't realize that they are solely dependent on us. George Carlin once said " The powers that be don't want well informed people capable of critical thinking. They want a society of people just smart enough to push buttons and file the paperwork". To some degree people are ok with letting that happen so long as they can have a life but it has pushed past that now. The assumption that just because one is middle class and that means that they are not intelligent and or easily manipulated is being pushed to dangerous levels and people who were once content to let things slide and pushing back.
