Chainsaw? Like, a battery operated one, so that you don't have to rev up the engine? How the hell would you counter that without a gun? Watch out for kickback, though.
You have to get the kicks out next time Seth is there though, I feel like he could maybe make them work better. Better kicks, kicks with feet anyway rather than shin. Could probably do some real damage.
Mike: My feet are messed up man I can't even wear chucks. This plantar fasciitis ain't no joke. Also Mike: thought it was gonna hurt me... I gotta find something to kick harder.
Mike, I’ve suffered PF for years. I do all the recommended stretches, strengthening exercises, rolling, ice bottle rolling… all of it. I ended up finding insoles from Protalus. They freaking work! I wear them in all of my shoes, even chucks. First thing I do with any pair of shoes is rip out the insole and replace with Protalus. Check em out.
So martial arts weapons like nunchaku, scythes? Get some rope and tie a couple things of wood together. To a martial artist EVERYTHING is a weapon. A pencil, a stick, a stapler, my iPhone… Everything is a weapon.
I think the primary purpose of the Kuba-Kickz is for shin kicks. You really need to hit just one, and you'll be able to just walk away. Also, you used to be able to order them with metal spikes embedded in the tips. I'm thinking that would really open someone up.
My buddy lived in Colorado and had someone try to break in just as he was getting home from work. He was wearing steal toed boots. Walked in to see a dude hanging halfway in his window which was pretty close to the ground. Came in full force kicked him in the face. They found the guy pretty easy afterwards, only guy in the emergency room with a toe shaped imprint in his forehead 😂
Having gotten my hands on and tested the kikz a while back I found a way of modding it to be much more useable. Get a piece of thick leather, cut out a tongue (bigger back plate) that fits inside your shoe and mount it to that. It becomes more stable on contact and the backlash becomes negligible.
Story time and video idea. Recreate the fight jay had, have him show us what he did and than you can show us what you would've done or should have been done instead
So, first thing I was thinking at the start of the video was "That Kuba-kick looks like it might be legit..." That palm thing makes me think of those old school "tiger claw" ninja things that were always advertised in the martial arts magazines back in the day.
I just want to say, it's pretty crazy that the part where you're trying to parry punches with the Gryphon Grip is the closest I've ever seen anything come to looking like Wing Chun stuff would work.
best version of the kuba-kicks I ever owned was by Mickey Yurco, kydex and steel spikes worn on boots, variation of ones used by bikers. The wide, curved kydex surface helps stability and comfort.
Well, I bought a pair of those Kuba-Kicks myself, before I saw your video. I put them on a pair of black DM boots (kicks are black as well) and, with a pair of jeans, they're fairly difficult, if not impossible, to spot. Also laced them into my boots, I use paracord for my laces, so they're very firmly on my boots. I've tried kicking some "stuff", like you did, and they didn't hurt my feet. I think if they're laced in properly it spreads the impact a bit. I bought these because I'm not a fighter so, if I'm in a bad situation, I want any edge I can get. If I can make a kick hurt more, or rake my foot down the leg of someone who's grabbing me, then it's all good.
When I worked in corrections I had a female co-worker that would wear the kuba-kickz on her boots. I'll attest that they can do some real damage and helped her on more than one occasion.
Planar fasciitis: I keep a golf ball in the freezer. If you have one in the break room, keep one there at work too. (IDK if you have a break room.) When the tension/spasms get real bad, you can try rolling it out on the floor, sitting in a chair. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but it's really nice when it does.
Lol..."You can't hit me" 25 years on the job cracking heads in bars, you know how many times I've heard that right before someone took a nap, lolololol! New sub here, loving the content!
I bought a sleeve for my foot off Amazon for like $3.99. Wore it for 4 or 5 days and planterfaciatis was gone. I struggled with it for months in both my feet. Also stretch your calf muscles and roll your calf muscles religiously. It seems to help.
The kicking thing is cool. I do recommend you take vitamins i.e., Tangy Tangerine - from Amazon and extra calcium for the planter thing - I had it for years taking shots and wearing orthodics until I heard from Dr Wallach presentation about supplements. He says the body needs calcium and takes it from bones and liguments and things. Also my calcium levels were high and when I started taking 2X the recommend dose and went back to the VA my calcium levels dropped to borderline low. However the pain went away competely after a couple weeks. I get calcium from costco...I'm an old guy 68, and love your videos... Cheers, Happy New Year from New Hampshire fan
I imagine that any cop stopping Mike would have an interesting conversation. "Sir, why do you have random assorted fruit, various bits a scrap wood, a blowup spiderman, and 72 flashlights in your car?"
Hey, if you like the style of converse and you like them for workouts, look up pf flyers and order a pair of them instead. Much more comfortable, and they actually have good arch support. Good old school sneaker
Used to do something similar when I was younger. You put a grolsch lager pop top on your trainers . It was supposed to be style but was lethal when you kicked someone.
the grffin grip reminds me of guys in high school who'd wear a large steel ring with like a big Indian Chief or Eagle or something on them. They'd use them for everything from opening bottles, to knuckle dusters, too spinning them around and slapping with them.
Plantar fasciitis / fasciosis - caused by shoes that undermine your foot's natural physiology / structure / function. Look into barefoot / minimalist shoes - zero drop, no arch, flexible sole, no toe spring, wide toe box to accommodate toe splay. The combo of a raised heel + raised arch + toe spring is what causes fasciitis / fasciosis.
I’ve been wearing the kuba kicks laced into my everyday sneakers for years. Less than half a dozen times has someone asked me about them, they seem to go unnoticed. They’ve NEVER been questioned at an airport. I would never use them for a high kick, but a low, powerful, Thai-style round kick to the thigh, shin or calf will absolutely discourage an assailant enough to give me a choice to flee or continue to fight. It’s discreet, portable and always there and at the ready.
Back in the 80s, maybe even the 90s, in the back of some martial art mags there were ads for a metal shoe lace weapon. It only had one blade but it was pointed. Maybe 1 inch in length. Maybe 3/4. I never saw one in real life. But I remember the ad showed a guy kicking someone with them. It was metal and not plastic.
@@junichiroyamashita Nope. It was a bladed device that the shoestring passed through I guess. The blade was an inch long, or less. Maybe 1/2" wide. A bad defense tool is one that compromises you somewhere else. I wouldn't want to punch with that awkward spike in my hand, and I have a feeling it could de-glove a finger if it ever caught on something.
I trained in French savate and jkd, but unless your kicks are spot on, you're gonna get a smashing in a street fight if you miss. I'd rather have a kubatan. Then again, if you have to rely on that, you shouldn't get into a fight in the first place. Good to see reviews on a variety of different stuff. Keep it up mates
One of my "favorite" trends in my city are lifted pickup trucks with spiked lug nuts on the wheels. I call them "Ben Hur" or "Road Rage" spikes for the sake of simplicity.
I've seen a metal version of the shoelace thing. It was little metal pyramids. The guy I saw it on was in full leather spiky goth gear, so it blended right in, but these stood out to me.
the kubas could benefit from some redesign to enhance the stability but for the most part people don't notice them and they really can put in work. take one to the side of the knee and you'll see how much it sucks in front of a good kick. don't know about that other one tho

The only practical use I can think of for the grip this is in a situation like a woman walking to her car alone at night. A guy comes up and grabs her, she grabs him back digging that thing into his arm, he lets go, and she runs away. Even still, no guarantee it would actually work.

You guys should make DIY self defense weapons and test them out.
For testing them out, you should try pressure testing it against each other or try it the old fashion way: hitting stuff with them and analyze it.
