I have the same tank and my Betta seems to be very happy with it. I like the circle shape. I have a sucker fish in there with my betta. The water flow is adjustable too.
i have this and protein scum tends to collect near the top (not a huge amount all the time but I'll be adding a small clear skimmer in the back. Also the current is soft near the glass but pushes down too strong for the betta near the center column. I know because I've seen him trying to escape it with his rear end almost vertical and fins pushed down. Supposedly the flow is adjustable but I may just remove the center and put in a small non mechanical filter with a small aerator tube attached to purify the water with less movement and give the fish more space. Gravel vac should be easier that way. You can barely fit even small hands inside to do anything, even to just move decorations. Struggled when the tank was not filled with water to set up the decorations and plants
I'm pretty sure the tetra small cartridges can fit the filter! I'm not sure, but by the look of the size, it seems it'll fit. I suggest trying it out, petco sells them and if it doesn't fit, you can return it.
I got this tank and set it up and was letting the cloudy settle from the new sand for a couple days before introducing Gus, but it leaked all over. Plus after looking at it set up for a day, I thought the filter takes up too much room. Meaning Gus could only swim in a circle. Hoping petsmart will take it back. Would be better with a less intrusive filter, and of course not leaking.
I have it too! Its been great but the only problem I have with it is that the centre filter portion moves around in the tank. It even fully comes off! DO you have any idea on how to snap it back in without fully emptying the tank?
I don’t know if it’ll be fine but I think it would, sense I had my betta in a gallon bowl for about a month and there was no lights, meaning I think he would be fine for me turning the lights off sometimes? Idk

How does the filter work ? I have my gravel in the bottle like yours but my filter doesn't work ? The rocks cover the part where the filter should suck in the dirty stuff

GuacaMolly I fixed it. Take off the filter the whole pump then take out the straw that sucks in the water and all that gunk and clean it when I took it out it was extremely dirty and clogged
for me I don't think it is clogged. I had a new light attached on top because the original ones burned out. So the light kept moving it. Now I cant get it completely in the right position so the water flow is very low and doesn't do much of anything.
GuacaMolly well what I did was clean out the tube because it was dirty so just give it a try. Then I cleaned the filter every 1-2 weeks and then I make sure the white tube is clean as well

Buy some filter foam from petsmart (super cheap, a whole bunch is only $ 7) and cut it to the dimensions of the filter. You can also buy come carbon or any other filter media such as crushed lava rock if you want and put it in one of those filter media bags (also found at petsmart, only 99 cents) behind the filter foam. Should work just fine, and you will never need to buy a filter replacement again.
The flow is too strong for my poor betta, he gets thrown around in there. I've had to turn it off. We've only had this tank for a few days but the poor guy couldnt fall asleep or he'd be tossed around. Any suggestions?
@Stacy Paige, try placing something over the filter's output flow... like, a river rock or a snip of a filter sponge material. It may do the trick. I had to do this on my Marineland tank's filter faucet return. It calmed everything down.
Try turning the flow down. I have the same tank and from the factory the tank was set to medium flow. I turned mine down to 1 click above the minimum. If you don’t know how to adjust the flow pull the pump out of the top of the housing and there’s a small dial on it with a + and - sign on it
Take the filter out, there is a dial for flow control. Make sure its on minimum. Maximum would do what you're describing. If that doesn't work put sponges on it
Ammonia has been a huge problem in mine, im almost 100 percent certain it is because of the bottom filter and poop being stuck under the tray that can not be removed. I am currently looking for a new tank

No it should be water safe, at least I hope so, lol! There are many aquarium extras with wires that go deep into the water, such as submersible lights.
need to wipe dry the underside of cover where lights and cords are...gets condensation up there so you need to maintain it. if they had a housing for the lights and cords that offered more protection wouldnt be a problem...but the lid is cheap.

Drupp12 no it’s great. I let it go a while longer no more crap at the top. Just hate the lid drips water everywhere when I take it off.

What about the cylinder for the heater.? I would so do that
I got 2 of them my heater fit right inside the filter housing and had no problems heating the tank from 70 to 78/80
Which heater did you decide to go with? I see all these bad reviews on heaters brands not being good

It states in the box 11 color led lights.... Is that a error cause it doesnt seem to be able to change colors. help?!

It's hard to clean via siphon cuz the base of the filter covers the whole bottom and poo gets trapped underneath :(

Yeah, round tanks like this distort their view, just like it does for us looking in, so they are not as good as flat faced tanks.
