Craig, you have opened my eyes to how things work through your videos. It’s amazing to see someone so good at explaining things online through video. Thank you for everything you do and you’ve helped me a ton.
This guy is an amazing instructor. I went to automotive school and did a little hvac training. His explanation and detail makes me like hvac more amd more
excellent explanation. I have a 80% efficient furnace with the metal flue so I learned some stuff about condensate that I did not know which is something to be aware of on the more efficient furnaces.
Thank you Craig for another great video, as always you are explaining the matter very clear and to the point. I hope you have more of these videos about the furnace coming up. GREAT JOB
I saw this video few time still I like it it looks like first time to watch it. Every time I watch it I pick something new because I see it in real life maintenance work.
Great video keep them coming I just picked up your work books and the Tec cards, can’t wait when you do a video on how to perform a efficiency test on furnaces, thank you for all the great videos enjoy your Thanksgiving you and your family🙏🏻
There is literally no reason why a young tech if they enjoy the field and are interested in a career, to not watch videos like this to learn everything they can. I wish tools like RUclips existed when I was in school.
Good afternoon, how are you? I found your videos on RUclips and started watching some and they are really good. As I don't have very good knowledge of English, as I'm learning, I would like to know how your course works, is there an in-person or online school, or just material to study alone, how does it work? Thank you very much in advance
Thank you for the video I really appreciate it! I had someone tell me that with a 90% or above if you don’t have a minimum set temp above 60 you can end up with early failure of the secondary heat exchanger. Like for a garage kept just over freezing. Was this a sales technique used on my friend or is there sense behind this? I’ve never heard this before and wasn’t sure if I should tell him yes or no.
Do you have any videos of dual pressure switch testing and operation? I’m still learning and out these and how to change just one of the two dual switches
Hi, Great videos and info. I would like to see more videos on troubleshooting the new high efficiency 2 and 3 stage furnaces, now using algorithms and multiple dip switch options, etc. They are becoming more common and some of these advanced units can be tricky to understand and diagnose. Thanks
Hello. Great video. I live in an apartment and the gas furnace stops working during a power outage. Can I connect a vehicle battery or some other power source to the furnace so that it will run during power outage? Thanks
Awesome video, I have bought your books and the material is great. I have a question, we have a furnace that is making a popping sound when it shuts off? Any ideas where to troubleshoot?
Check the sheet metal, sometimes when the unit shuts off and burners stop throwing heat it starts to cool down and that's where you get that contraction from the duct work.
I have an older furnace (going to replace soon. Pur return is the entire front of the access panel (covered on all other sides). Where would my clean o2 be coming from? Is it the return air?
Hello. Let me ask you some thing. The delta T of 50 degrees is only for hi efficiency furnace ?, or is the same delta for low efficiency ? Thank you ! Blessings.
Have you had any issues with "smart" thermostats? I had an issue with my furnace the other night and it turned out to be the Nest. Everything would work up until it went to open up the gas valve and it would just click and then instantly shut down the furnace. I ran the C wire for the thermostat so it had constant power because i have heard that not having constant power can cause issues. I was just curious if you have seen issues and what you have done to make them more reliable and not damage the furnace. I currently have the old thermostat wired up for the time being as its starting to get cold and I no longer trust the NEST
What if a third heat exchanger is placed between the exhaust and the incoming outdoor air so that especially during the coldest times of the year you are able to preheat that incoming air?
Thanks Craig! I have a question on a rollout sensor. I have a Carrier gas package unit. The rollout sensor is an automatic resetting button type. I ran a continuity test on it and got 0001, however when I taped the disc the numbers jumped all over the place. There was no rollout, however the exhaust was wide open (unshrouded) on the side of the unit. Any suggestions? Thank You!
I have a Daikin gas furnace and the middle burner have rush on the plate of the burner, What Is the cause ? The in side of the heat exchanger seem ok and the burner too . What can cause that ?
Craig, My heating system has been installed approximately 10 years now. I’ve never paid much attention, but I do know I have a high efficiency unit. PVC exhaust. One of the main things I’ve noticed after viewing your videos is that I DO NOT HAVE any outside combustion air installed. I’ve always noticed that when the unit kicks on if my basement door is open it actually slams shut. Did the company just skip this Combustion air intake.??? The unit was inspected by the township and passed. Is it code requirement to install outside combustion air..???
I would say thats a hack install, someone decided to skip running an intake it sounds like to cut down on time on the job. I've seen this issue where it drafts so hard because of no intake installed it puts out the burners for the water heater.
I'm replacing my furnace and two different technicians have told me that they would seal the existing Return, and just use the fresh air intake and exhaust. Does this make sense? How can they just seal off the Return air/intake? Thank you
Fantastic video !Your thorough and well-presented explanation of the fundamentals of a gas furnace impressed me greatly. You have a clear grasp of the material, and I value your ability to translate difficult concepts into understandable language , for quality Furnace spare parts, visit us
I think you may have missed a step. Before the inducer motor is turned on, doesn't the controller board verify that the pressure switch is not stuck close?
No - inducer motor proves pressure switch which tells board to go ahead and send electricity to glow igniter. The combustion motor clears all gases that may have built up in heat exchanger so it doesn’t blow up .
Thanks for an excellent video. I am wondering how the gas can be at 1/4 psi while normal atmospheric pressure is around 14 psi. Wouldn't the air want to rush into the gas line when the valve is opened ( instead of the gas flowing out)?
When referring to pressure inside the gas line, we are using pounds per square inch gauge, 0 psig is equivalent to 14.7 psia or pounds per square inch ambient.
@@justenhaight6429 Ah that makes sense now. However, I'm still confused why he said car tires are 45 psi. Normally car tires are 32 psi....so on the psig scale that should be 18 psig, correct?
@@andyfer7716 car tire pressure is normally listed on the tire, and is usually the cold pressure of the tire, once the tire heats up the pressure will increase, passenger cars are typically rated at 32 psig cp, but the larger the vehicle and the more weight it has to carry, the pressure rating will be higher.
My HVAC Jman is great unfortunately he is ESL (English Second Language) and cannot explain this to me. For the last 8 months I've relied on AC Service Tech to teach me what he's been unable to. My Jman is a wizard at putting a new furnace/AC in and troubleshooting, however, he's not able to explain anything to me.
Ha ha it was just supposed to be a reference point for those who are trying to enter the trade. I used to teach in a high school with CTE student so any reference to the common world was helpful. Yeah I understand it seems silly to those with years in the field!

I love the detail in which this channel explains things.
So much free knowledge on the internet, I love it
Absolutely! Its a lot different than when I started in the trade! Make sure to check out www.acservicetech.com for more info!
You are the Master of this field of HVAC/R teachings and instructions Sr.
Even though I know these units I watch it sometimes for refresher. Such an amazing instructor.

Thank you so much. This is a wealth of knowledge and I learn so much from your presentation.
After watching this video, I feel like I can start my own HVAC company…and I don’t know anything about HVAC systems 😉
You'd probably be better than half of the companies out there 😅

Craig, nice explanation on this subject. Thanks for sharing.
Great video. Your very clear and top notch in your experience

why does blower comes on before induction motor so furnace blows cold air instead of warm air?

Yes RP Smith you are correct, the IFC board first checks to see if the pressure switch is closed before ever turning on the inducer
@@badassgrower wrong. It does check to make sure the switch isn’t closed before it ever turns on the inducer motor
That's galvanized steel pipe being used for the gas feed not the proper black iron pipe. I hope that gets fixed too.
