How a Furnace Works - Furnace Sequence of Operation

  • Опубликовано: 9 ноя 2018
  • How a furnace works, the furnace sequence of operation. Or in other words how a furnace works and in which order each component is energized. Knowing this will help with furnace troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repair. I also go over the most common reason why a gas furnace won't turn on. When you know in what order the furnace starts up, then you will be able to narrow down your potential problems. Also, there are many different furnaces out there and though the sequence stays very similar from furnace to furnace, there may be some differences. And one more side note. If you turn the power off and on with a Bryant or Carrier furnace, the first thing that will happen is the blower motor will get energized for a minute or 2 to do a pre-purge. After that the sequence would be the same as any other furnace.

People like you posting these videos on RUclips has saved me tens of thousands of dollars over the past 10 years between my business and home. From car repairs, to building walls, painting, repairing washing machines, servicing water softeners, repairing water heaters, and servicing my HVAC systems. Just last week I opened my RTU's heating panel to check for cob webs and an hour later realized i lost my heat. Turns out the wind blew the flames at my burner and tripped the limit switch which I learned from one of your other videos. I now know to turn the unit off before opening that access panel on a windy day (or just in general). This video was fun to watch to learn a bit more about how these work. Thanks!

I like the vid. One thing I’d add about the flame sensor. Up to a hundred volts can be sent through that flame sensor wire. You don’t want to make a habit of handling that with the power on.

Great video. I appreciate the visual explanation. I’ve been trying to figure out why my Bryant furnace blower won’t operate at the same time the flames are active. Still working on it but this helped me get a better understanding of how everything works together.
