Excellent video. I'm getting my house ready for sale and there's several spots where trim is missing and/or needs to be replaced. I've been scouring youtube for good tutorials. This is one of the best. As a 62yr old grandma, I feel much more confident doing the repairs after watching this.
Amazing! So helpful as I am getting ready to redo baseboard behind an installed toilet. Using painted poplar rather than MDF to not have water damage again! Love your videos! Thank you!
You're the man! Excellent tutorial. I wish the trim installers that worked on my new home build had watched this video. The decorative trim they installed near the middle/perimeter of my dining room walls have such raised bumps that you can see the joints from 12 ft. away!
Pretty good demo but can see about an inch above the new baseboard where the top of the old baseboard was. Looks like the wall was just painted over. I would've either sand it out and match the orange peel texture of the wall or just put the orange peel on, then paint. Just something I would do.
Woodworkers trick... use both. I use a couple dabs of CA on one side & spray hardener on the other in the center to place and hold the pieces to get perfect alignment, but most of the joint is held with traditional wood glue around the outside edges. The CA will hold the alignment and the wood glue will provide the strength.
great video. question ? so when you are joining the two pieces of baseboards like in the middle not inside or outside corners but just connecting two pieces did you just cut both the ends to 45 degrees. That is what it looks like and add the wood filler so you can't see the seems?
I also heard you can use tape on the cut so that the finish doesn't chip with most types of wood - take with a grain of salt though no idea what kind of tape or if it actually works. As for the finishing, use a damn putty knife thats as close to the size of the baseboard as possible, use DAP (the blue container with pink stuff inside) and use very light coats, sand with 360 grit, wipe with soft cloth and tape your wall with painters tape then caulk using your finger in one smooth motion (no going back over it if you can avoid) then paint pronto and once done peel tape - this will give you a very clean line & prevent hours of trying to sand something (also scrape your putty knife edge to clean it every few passes) this only works if you don't have stucco walls inside. When doing trim you touch don't roll it, use a high quality brush and floetrol - will get you very smooth or glass like finish - actually you should spend money on 3 things and go as high quality as you can 1. paint brush 2. roller (the frame if you will) & 3. drop sheet 3 1/2. a decent locking extension pole of your choice
Scarf joint looks great! Question... Im thinking about DIY my baseboards on my new Vinyl Plank Flooring. The installer said to use 1/4" spacers for installing the baseboards to allow for expansion. But I noticed you just laid them on the floor planking and nailed them in... Is this a mistake on your part or is the 1/4" space really needed?
Hey man great work & detail of explanation. Do you find that Franklin stud finder has been the best to you? Seen it at $52- so just asking. Does it always mark 100%? You da man tho 💯😁👍
ok, so if you had to cut out a small section with an oscillating tool how would you make that 45 degree bevel? or would it have to be a straight seem if you're not able to take apart both sides?
Outstanding. This is the only part that’s giving me fits. God help you if you don’t get that set perfectly with that CA glue….you’re f**ked. I’d kind of like to see how that’s fixed. I need a few more seconds of adjustment time. So, maybe I’ll try using the drops on both sides method. I just don’t want it to get messy. Great video!
I didn't know there were nail guns without an air compressor! Do you recommend the one in this video to do an entire apartment or is it better for small jobs? This was very helpful!! Thank you so much for making this video!
Personally I find the air tools with a small compressor great for small, occasional jobs. I have a lot of battery powered tools as well, but the battery powered tools can get expensive since you're paying for tool+battery. The air powered tools are generally very inexpensive, and I've gotten a lot of use out of an inexpensive brad nailer, and an inexpensive flooring stapler. YMMV.
I use a 18 ga brad nailer by ryobi and I use two 5ah batteries for it it is around 250 in total but works great! I believe it’s more expensive to have a air tool. But yea ryobi has never given me any problems while doing trim moulding
Hello. Question? I need to make a 46 degree Bevel cut but my miter saw only does up to 45 degree bevel cuts. My miter will do 46 degree miter cuts however. Any idea on how to do this? I would hate to have to buy a new saw.
What seem? I don't see no seem! 🤔👻🎃
#missionaccomplished 👍🏽😊🙏🏽
It seems like to me too there is no seam.
I see what you did there... :)
STUD 🤔 Most transgender folks are somewhat unattractive 😂

You are a true craftsman........I made my contractors watch your video. They admitted nobody teaches these techniques and skills. Thank you!
If a trim/finish carpenter doesn't know how to splice two pieces of trim together and make it look good, then he isn't a carpenter by any means.
@MSeroga was about to say the same thing lol!!
Amazing! So helpful as I am getting ready to redo baseboard behind an installed toilet. Using painted poplar rather than MDF to not have water damage again! Love your videos! Thank you!
Thank you so much! I wish you the best on your project! 🙏🏽😊👍🏽

I had the same problem from DIY previous owners did. I sanded and repainted, even did wood filler in the bad gaps. Can’t even tell!
It seems seamless! Great techniques!
Beautifully done! I'm going to apply this technique to my unfinished 18' halfway. Thanks for all the tips ❤
Video still helping people 2 years later. Thanks!
I'm going to be putting in trim around a few rooms and this vid answered the how's, that were keeping me up nights. Thanks for the tips....great job!
It doesn't seam to be there.
😂😅😂😂
😂😂
Ba dum tis
I see what you did there 😂
I switched to Diablo five years ago and extremely happy with most of their products.
Thanks. I screwed up cut my door trim too much. This will help me save it without having to buy more trim.
A lot of good information here. I have rarely done any millwork, but I am saving your video in favorites for future use. Thank you.
Nicely done. Always the professional and paying attention to detail!
Thank you so much my friend 🙏🏽😊👍🏽
Awesome! This tip is really gonna help me ensure no pieces go to waste.
Thank you 🙏🏽 for watching!
Video Starts @2:45
Nice to see that I'm not the only one that finds dust collection bags on miter saws to be less than useless!
Thank you for this! Had to replace baseboards from past owner pets. This helps greatly good videos.
Looks great! Some finish carpenters use glued biscuit joints to prevent separation over the long haul.
Thank you for the advice 👍🏽😊
Wow. Amazing finishing! Love it.
I see the seam! It’s right there☝🏻
Great work!! Thank you for sharing your trade knowledge
Whoa...you good trim man. Thanks for the lesson.
Very nice!! I hate coping though so 45 degree inside corner cuts all the way.
This is one of the best videos that I have seen on crown molding. Thank you I have a question. How do you make beveled cuts and what is coping?
Very well. I’m in the process of baseboards diy… Thanks 🙏🏾
I’m glad to help! Please make sure to watch my other baseboard videos on my playlist 👍🏽😊
Thank you so much for this very informative video. It was a giant help for me!
Just confirmed to me that there really isn’t a “quick” way to get a good result. Useful - thank you.
Thanks! I am remodeling my first room.
Nicely done! Thanks again for another excellent tutorial video!
Thank you so much! 🙏🏽😊

Nice work, beautiful remodel work.
Thanks for your wonderful video.

Excellent video. Thank You very much Sir!
Thank you so much for watching! 👍🏽😊🙏🏽
Excellent video and instructions! Thank you!
Thank you 🙏🏽 so much for watching!
Have you ever had issues with the cyanoacrylate glues versus a wood glue long term? I worry that it may crack/split over time
Woodworkers trick... use both. I use a couple dabs of CA on one side & spray hardener on the other in the center to place and hold the pieces to get perfect alignment, but most of the joint is held with traditional wood glue around the outside edges. Thanks for tips. Tomorrow, I will work on the baseboards. And again thanks for the blade type.
Looks great, going to give it a try.
Thank you Greg! 🙏🏽😊

If you shim under the baseboard, how do you cover it up? Do you run a bead of caulk on the bottom?
Yes you can caulk or use quarter round or shoe molding 👍🏽😊

Are you saying to lift the baseboards off the flooring by 1/4"?
Good job and excellent instruction! Keep up the good videos!
I've been using drywall compound (the one that's pink and dries white) to fill nail holes and seams. Have you tried that?
Thank You just what I was looking for ...
Thanks for all the info, very well done.
I had no idea that you could use cyanoacrylate w/activator to instantly glue wood. For the right project, it's perfect.
Excellent work and very informative. Thank you
Good job! I use gorilla glue, it expands to fill any gaps and then cut expanded glue with razor and finish sand.
Very helpful tips
Thank you! 🙏🏽😊
Wow excellent tutorial
Gorgeous work! Great job :)
Beautiful work!

Nice. Don't think I'll do quite that perfectly, but I got the basics I needed! Thanks! And, no, I do NOT see the seam.
Great video, useful product suggestions
Thank you! 🙏🏽😊

I was able to see where it was. To the untrained eye, there is no way to tell. Nice work as always.
Thank you 🙏🏽!
Good eye!
Very nicely done
Thanks for this! New follower.
Thank you my guy!!
Great video. Thanks! :)

Great Tips !!

Thank you! I’m glad I could be of help! 🙏🏽😊
great job!
Thank you so much!
Wow Great Job dude!! I cant see it either!!
Oh I most certainly found value in this video. Can u imagine being an electrician trying to do baseboard trim? Ha ha.
What type of roller do you use to get rid of the paint strokes? Foam?
When joining two long pieces try a 22.5 instead of 45 it goes together little nicer
Perfect!
Superb video for the DIY'er.
Thanks, That helped me! :)
Nice work!!!

Thanks
Could this method work to create seamless trim around the perimeter of a picture window?
Your Worx 840L or 842L ? Thank you !
bro are you sure your not related to Finish Carpentry TV cause you guys do good work
Beautiful
Nice job
Thank you so much 😊

I hiave all Ryobi nail guns and they are great. I have a pin nailer, 16 gauage, 18 guage, crown stapler and they just came out with a framing nailer!
Nice job!
nice job thank you
Polyfila outperforms everything else for smoothness and nail fill.
Nice job.
Thank you! 🙏🏽😊
Wow can't find the seam - nice work
Ty
Excellent. New sub
Thank you so much for the love and support! 👍🏽😊
I don't see the seam either. Thanks so much for the tips!

Thank you so much Julio! 🙏🏽😊
I can't find the seem. Very nice pro moves and tips
I like to scarf after a joint, maybe why I can't seam to find whatever I seamed to be looking for
nice i use craftsman too
Should be a 22.5 for a lengthening joint, less of a joint
