This is one of the reasons I got my NC. I wanted to get a replacement for my motorcycle. The MX-5 is probable the best bang for buck you can ever get. It does really make you feel like you are one with the machine.
Exactly. I got this feeling too, as you don’t feel you and the car are independent. Same way as on motorcycle. And for sure, Miata is the best value for what you get today.
I bought my Miata because I miss riding but it’s far too dangerous to ride anymore. My big Dodge Ram truck seems to be invisible, what chance do I have on a motorcycle? But I love my ND Miata so much, I bought an NA for the track.
I have the same mx5 as the video but with black leather interior, I’ve had it since September this year and one of the reason for getting it was I will no longer ride a motorbike after I had a bad accident in one a few years ago, the mx5 is best best car I have owned and I have owned quite a lot of nice luxury cars, nothing compares to the drive of the mx5 you literally feel like you are on rails, I find the super sweet spot to be about 60mph you literally feel like the car is just flowing down the road 👌 best car for price I think you can get also I love the simplicity of the cabin no distractions just driving 👌
@@scousegeeks Congrats! As a motorcycle rider myself, this was the feeling - it can be an alternative to a motorcycle which is also fun and safe to drive. Agree 0 to 60 the best speed range where this car provides best driving experience.
The Miata is an extension of your body, no matter the generation. Honestly, the facelift NC must be my favorite. I couldn't care less about the unnecessary hate. I'm gifting myself one for Christmas. Great vid.
Great video! NCs, especially NC2s, seem currently VERY under-appreciated. This creates a great opportunity for people to get a great sports car at currently modest costs with easy maintenance and relatively cheap mods available. I don’t think it will be too long before people start to realize what great cars the NC2s are, and their prices will start to go up. NC1s are also better than people realize; they’re just typically not quite as track ready as their NC2 siblings. Your video is nicely done.
Thank you! I personally think that NC2 is the best looking generation out of all Mazda has introduced so far. Here in Europe they already went up in value.
Facelift cars (2009 onwards) had lots of improvements over the earlier cars, including forged engine internals, higher RPM redline (7,250 vs approx 6,750), different torque curve and many cosmetic and other improvements
My 2006 revs to 7000 and I've heard NC2s go up to 7500. Those numbers you said are when they make peak torque and should upshift for the best acceleration but it's fun to rev it all the way out 😁

Even the highways through MA. and CT. are bad so I don't dare go on a long road trip. My son lives in NC. and the roads there are beautiful and I'm sure they are in GA. as well.
I totally support your thinking. Since 1990 I’ve owned a 1990 NA, 1999 NB, 2006 NC1, 2010 NC2, and 2020 ND2. We usually give our cars to people who need them when the time comes to get new ones. The ONLY cars I wished I would have kept are the NA and the NC2. NAs just have something very intangibly special about them that is difficult to replace. Bought my 2007 NC Grand touring with the premium package last August with only 49k miles on it for $9400. Has a brand new soft top, brand new touch screen radio, and a brand new set of Enkei RPF1 wheels and Continental Extreme contact summer tires. Love the car so far. Such a big improvement over the 2003 NB that my dad use to own.
I just bought one a month ago and now I see this video, I think is the perfect review I've seen of this car. Is an emotional car, I was thinking that maybe it had no much Horsepower, no especial engine... but once you drive it once you want it forever. Like you said, is about the smiles, and you just smile at 40km/h driving this "big kart". By the way i want to mention that behind both seats there is also a storage!
The PRHT (hard top) doesn't have storage behind the seats. Unfortunately the engine is a huge let down on this car - I think it would be a high value collectible car like the S2000 if they didn't throw a soulless Ford econobox engine in it!
I had a 2007 NC1 soft top. Someone hit me and totaled it. Now I have an NC2 Grand Touring PHRT, with the suspension package. If you have the choice between an NC1 and NC2, go for the latter and get if you can the limited slip differential. So many refinements and stronger parts. Very noticeable. Hopefully I will have this one for many years to come. Such a great car. Thanks for this review.
I drive a gun metal grey 2014 MX 5 NC. A ten second car. It came out of the box race ready with Le Mans paddle shifters on the steering wheel. Every time I drive it I'm in a James Bond movie. When people see it they ask, 'does it have machine guns behind the fog lights?' The license plate reads 009. It's definitely licensed to kill. Does a 'Tokyo drift' nicely.
I just found after a month of searching a 2010 NC2 MX-5 GT PRHT in liquid silver metallic with just 1500 miles on the odometer. Not a typo-1500 miles on a 13 year old sports car! I am guessing that it was owned from new by a collector in California and in an indoor collection since it was rarely driven. I also paid a lot for that low mileage. Inside it still smells like a new car!
Good video, amazing car. I just bought a fifteen-year-old one in the UK for less than £2½K with under 60,000 miles (100,000 km) on the clock, and I'm made up with it. I plan to keep it for many years.
I have a mk 2.5, my second one of such. I have also owned mk 3. Love them however, in Scotland they are really prone to corrosion issues so buyer beware regarding such! I have spent many, many hours of welding on my Mx 5s.
the trunk lid can be opened with a button between the plate lights, but you have to have Keyless (then you will find a request button between the plate lights, also on door handles and a start knob where the ignition)
Loved my NC PRHT 2.0 I had from new (2007) 'till last May when I changed it for a new ND2 in Soul red. The NC was very good - the ND 2 is even better! I went for the rag top for its simplicity and good looks - I don't like the fastback look of the hard top or the fact it's only a targa top not a true drop top with the roof down.
@@SergeyVikultsev I can not tell any difference. I have read reports that the NC is more roomy but that's not my experience. I'm a big lad, very big for the MX5 but fit very well, so it was something I checked very carefully on test drives before I bought the ND. In fact, the NC has annoying cup holders in the door cards that dug into my legs - the ND doesn't. The NC does have a glove box whereas the ND doesn't, but all I ever kept in there was the manual anyway and in the ND that goes in the cubby behind the seats. The ND2 is much more lively but I'd say if I was being really critical that the steering 'feel' on the NC is better with its hydraulic power steering. The ND's electric steering rack is excellent though - it really is a tiny difference. And of course the ND has equipment undreamed of in the NC, such as cruise control, reversing camera, heated seats, sat nav, auto wipers, lights, and headlight dip, little yellow warning lights in the door mirrors with beep if something is overtaking in your blind spot. keyless entry, engine stop (the restart does not use the starter motor - it fires the engine instead). And loads more!
Nice review. If you guys don’t know and need more space for things in your Miata, try moving seats in front. There are two “drawers” enough for jackets etc :)
The power retractable hardtop does not add 100 kilos. It adds less than 100lbs. The problem is that that weight is added up high in one of the worst spots it could possibly be. It also does not make the car stiffer. You are imagining that. Personally I feel the soft top looks better whether up or down. The PRHT has weird lines that don't fit the body.
@@SergeyVikultsev No big deal. The filming quality is very good, and your passion for the MX-5 is very justified. The nicest part of the hard top is probably just not having to weather proof spray it, and it should last the life of the car where as a soft top is usually done after 15 years. The biggest downsides of the hard top are that it puts about 75lbs. (~35kilos) more up high, and without modification it can't be put up or down while moving. There's a module called a smartTOP that changes the top to moveable while driving, but it cost over $300 USD. Still, the soft top can go up or down in under three seconds, and this can be done at, at least 80kph.
Sory but you cannot open or close the soft at 80 km/h. To much wind force. You can do it at 30-40 km/h and you need to know what are you doing. I have a 2007 nc soft top.
@@madmagcat7515 Sorry to bust your balls, but you are certainly wrong here. I have a NC3 soft top. I know it can do it at those speeds, because I have. Your arm is too short or your shoulder too weak. It works well otherwise. There's zero damage to the top at that confirmed speed.
I had a soft NC1 and now a hard top NC2. Mazda makes the best version of both in any class. The preference is up to you. Personally, the hard top is my favorite. Easier to take care of and I don’t have to worry about water leaking into the cabin. You can lower the soft top while moving but you CANNOT raise it while moving. Hard top you need to be parked in either case. The NC2 with the suspension package which I have is much better handling than the NC1 I had without. The hard top does not affect handling at all. I never get the hate that NC versions get. It is a great looking car and doesn’t have even close to the maintenance issues the NA or NB had and have.
Man we just bought one in November, a 2007 nc same as yours but I wanted mine without leathers just plain cloth seats plastic. I was not lucky to find a 2.0l engine so I bought a 1.8l. Black with hard top. Can’t wait till warmer days so I can drive it with top down
@@SergeyVikultsev I tried out the NC2 PRHT the other day and I fit with around 1 inch/3cm clearance with the seat all the way back and down. An aftermarket lowered seat would give me another 2 inches but in stock form it's good enough. Without a doubt the comfort is much better than the RF ND and equally as good as the soft top ND. So for tall people, only go for any NC version or the soft top ND. For me then, the PRHT NC is the best solution due to the hardtop as Daily Driver.
I wish I could buy this car for cheaper (half of MSRP for an 8 year old car). The front passenger airbags can be turned off for car seats as Miata doesn't have a rear seat one can (in a few countries) put a car seat in front legally if airbags are disabled. I think that's why the button.
11:25 the NC is most definitely not more mechanical and pure than the NA.. My only gripe for the review which seems geared more towards the more modern car buyer, but overall good review very important that you pointed out the facelifts most ppl just review it as just general NC. It’s a very long generation over 10 years of practice for the ND heh.
Thank you for your feedback! Car reviews are not typical for me, but I wanted to try and see if I like this format. I'll try to do better next time :) I am sure NA and NB have their charisma. But those cars are pretty rare these days, and because of age, not everyone is willing to buy them nowadays. NC, as you say, has been there up to 2015 and still can be considered a "modern" generation. And you can find it in pretty good condition with low mileage. Comparing to latest cars, it has less electronics onboard. I guess that's what I want to express :)
@@SergeyVikultsev I bought a 2016 MX-5 Club soft top with the Brembo / BBS package in 1st week of March 2017. Originally the 2017 124 Fiat Spyder Abarth review on RUclips caught my attention. So I went to the local Alfa Romeo / Fiat dealer for a test drive in the 124 Abarth. Not impressed by the heavy feeling clutch or the turbo lag from that 1.4L Multi Air engine. Next day went to the Mazda dealer for the 2016 Club test drive. What a difference. Instant throttle response & flat torque curve in every gear from the naturally aspirated 2.0L Skyactiv engine. The clutch was super light feeling exactly the way I like. Plus besides traction control there were No Nannies controlling the car ! No accident avoidance / no lane warning / just you the driver controlling the car ! I live in a 4 season climate & bought winter tires for when the snow falls. As a daily driver its been reliable & so much fun. Love this car. It tells you what is happening on the road by its feedback thru the steering wheel / the seat / the engine / the tires. So few cars like this today especially in the price range.
The NC is the best. The ND exhaust is horrible and 37k for this car does not make sense. I bought a 2012 NC for 17k and compare it with an ND from a friend. Hydraulic steering is way better than the electric from the ND. Cup holders location and no glove compartment are nonsense features. Trunk capacity is bigger on the NC.
Short answer: no. Longer answer; if you like to properly drive, buy a NA, NB, ND. If you like to cruise in a convertible that is not too ugly and too floaty, buy a NC. Or a mini convertible, which is about the same thing.

Man we just bought one in November, a 2007 nc same as yours but I wanted mine without leathers just plain cloth seats plastic. I was not lucky to find a 2.0l engine so I bought a 1.8l. Black with hard top. Can’t wait till warmer days so I can drive it with top down
Congrats on your purchase 🔥
Hi sir nice filming and clear explanations! But how tall are you? I am 1.93m/6ft4 and am anxious to try to see if I fit in it.
I am 194cm. Fitting ok. But long journeys might be not comfortable I think.
Thank you for sharing! Totally support it :)
They ARE the best generation. No doubt about that…. Because they are quite late models yet cheap,
I wish I could buy this car for cheaper (half of MSRP for an 8 year old car). The front passenger airbags can be turned off for car seats as Miata doesn't have a rear seat one can (in a few countries) put a car seat in front legally if airbags are disabled. I think that's why the button.
What Sony action cam and mount for it do you use?
I used old Sony AS50 camera and iPhones to film this video.
Yeah that round hole to the left of the tailight? Yeah that is the keyhole. So there IS a way to open the trunk besides the key fob and dash button.
👍
They say of the Miata MX 5. It's a heart attack on four wheels. It's also the most fun you can have in a car without a woman.
Awesome car!
Turn up the volume dude...nice car
Yeah, volume can be better! Noted. Thanks!
Try getting used to shifting and then putting both hands back on the wheel. It will make you a better, safer driver.
I'll try to do better next time :)
I am sure NA and NB have their charisma.
This car is probably more of Roadster than any other generation :)
Price??
Depends on your country I guess
They are the best
🔥👍
I can't sell my Nc Miata...it feels like a part of me.
I would take the na any day over any gen of the mx5 or “miata” as you say
Why?
MX-5 NC built for driving not for repairs.
No but it’s the reliable RX8 you can buy..lol
motorcycle on 4 wheels :)
😎
This video s just helping you feel better about buying the worst Miata ever made. NA>ND>NB>NC
Ha. Had an nb and four na eunos. The NC is streets ahead.
You forgot wear socks
Yeah, thanks!
Short answer: no. Longer answer; if you like to properly drive, buy a NA, NB, ND. If you like to cruise in a convertible that is not too ugly and too floaty, buy a NC. Or a mini convertible, which is about the same thing.
Nc is nicer for track, all other generations are nicer for road driving, at least when compared stock
@@burgholte true and it's rear wheel drive which makes a tone of difference to the Mini
