Have you been in a situation where you had to deal with difficult people at work and had to deal with office drama? What was your process like? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
Hi, I work in a environment where I am projected as Manager to the client company but I have to report to a person who is having similar experience as mine, and I can tell you that guy is Jealous of me, He tries everything under the sun not give me credit or promotion. Client is happy with my work . But person I report to Bad mouths about me. How do you think I should handle such situation.
Hi Linda. Your so beautiful from the inside and pretty on the outside. My first situation where I had to deal with a harder person was when I worked for BYCC as weed wacker and the sun shined on me very bright while I chopped grass. Suddenly, I begun to lose my energy so I dropped the weed wacker and walked to a strong tall tree drinking cold water. The supervisor in an angry voice said, "Who's that not working?" Most of the employees pointed at me. The supervisor stormed over towards me and loudly said, "You don't want to work, go home!" That's all I needed to hear plus I didn't like the way he spoke to me because It's not that I didn't want to work the strenuous labor position he didn't understand that I had a major problem which was the cause of my behavior. I threw the weed wacker in the air that flipped then as it fell on the grass making a thump, I hoped it didn't hit anybody on the head. I walked off the plantation field and went home. P.S. From that point on, I've been hired at many job positions and not keeping them. I don't believe I didn't keep my jobs because of Social Anxiety that was not the reason I left my first position. Everything happens for a reason. For an example, I worked at Stop & Shop as a stocker, Star Market as a bagger, Walmart as a People's Greeter, UPS as a Package Handler, A & T Taxi as a driver ect. and I've enrolled in so many online colleges currently taking Small Business Management at Ashworth College. When I traveled from one city and state to another, my cousin thinks I'm crazy who completely shuts me out of his life. Out of all of this bad employment history, dropping out of school and everybody like my aunt who attempted to get me into accounting worked out for me. In 2016 I designed my independent organization out of the Supplemental Security Income Program called Internal Intelligence Agency LLC as my new brand name where I'm in the process of developing my Professional Home Office.
M Ra : Unless the person is a boss/supervisor or they are abusive or harassing (contributing to a hostile work environment) it’s best to politely detach and ignore the ignorance. Practice mindful compassion. The ridiculous coworker indulging in loud long personal telephone conversations clearly craves attention. Politely ignore her. The self-important idiot who interrupts your unpaid lunch with simplistic, non-time sensitive requests needs gentle correction (as many times as it takes). The sorry excuse for a man who insists on giving you the once-over as you exit the restroom is a substandard human JOKE. Sometimes we’re the toxic coworker intentionally or not.
A new co worker makes me feel less than because the supplies finish after I have to use them for cleaning. He is in charge of bringing in more supplies but talks down on me for running out. And my boss is his brother and doesn’t corrects this. He actually wants me to use less of the cleaning supplies and backs him up.... what can I do to put a stop to this? Sue??? CA
Patty Loves : cooperate with your boss. If he insists you use fewer supplies, do so. If the workplace is less clean it’s management’s responsibility to correct that.
No matter where you go to work, it's everywhere like a virus. But, when I go to work, I try to keep focus, do my work and stay away from gossipers. I've seen people get fired over escalated drama. To me, no one is worth me losing my job.
There’s a great read, “The No Asshole Rule.” It’s short and too the point about recognizing toxic workplaces and people, and practicing coping skills. Ultimately it’s usually best to move on from a truly hostile work environment.
I have been a victim of this.. first they isolate you. Then they gossip about you, give you code names etc.,they ignore you/refuse to help, highlight your faults. Weak people give up.
I have been at my new job for 1.5weeks now.. nobody speaks to me so I just stay in my office.. I mean I don’t know them and they don’t know me so why be like that??? I don’t understand it.. I’m also pretty so it’s just.. I don’t know..😔
This is why I like working from home so much, the office politics are still there but you are much more removed from it all, harder to get dragged in to all the drama when your only present for meetings 🙂
02:34 - Demonstrate high-value, high-quality work daily. 03:20 - Become the expert at your job. 04:35 - Engage in important conflicts but avoid the petty ones. 06:41 - Stay away from the talkers but be friendly and courteous.
I am the top expert at my job and a top performer in my department... after 4 years an unexpected software bug appeared after an update and one toxic coworker began his attacks as if this was some massive ongoing issue. He definitely made himself look bad in front of everyone, but he's an important specialist for his position as well so I'm stuck working with him. The solution my boss decided was for both of us to spend more time together.... ugggh
#1 will help you keep your job until you find your next one. People don't like seeing others flourish at work because they see it as a threat, especially when it's your own supervisor who you naturally are more skilled than who will see you as a threat.
People quit bcz it's out of control of Thier mind. I cry alone thinking how much i had to go through and still going through. Our own people expect us to adjust and compromise bcz of money.
I thought the same thing about number #1. From my perspective, depending on the type of environment you work in, being a superstar and setting yourself apart especially if it's recognized by the managers, is an easy way to bring work drama right to your door. Been there and done that.
So true. They don't want the competition. They want someone subservient and "dumber" than them so as to not outshine them. The problem is when you know your supervisor is dumber than you. It's just so inslulting.
To all the young people starting out as an employee. Save your money, invest smart, build assets and get out of the “Rat race ” and you won’t have to ever deal with office drama. Good luck the best time to start is today. Also your home is not an asset, it’s a liability. Unless it’s printing money for you every month.
Great idea. So HOW EXACTLY are investing smart or building assets? You are just like the other 1000 people who says the same super vague things and not revealing any specifics.
@Hot_Pockets_3 EDC - Actually, they can still encounter office drama in the meantime ~ while saving and building. Miserable people *always* have time to suck others into their misery.
Mocha Leeshus I’ve done that so far. Then I stayed home for 2 days because I was sick. I was told by a coworker that I was being talked about negatively at work. THEN... I tried to contact this coworker that told me this and she is not answering me back. So.... I’m scared to return to work. People suck.
i constantly shine in my position, I am the expert in my role with many years experience. - At the end of the day everyone is replaceable even CEOs. Politics are initiated by selfish, insecure narcissists. No matter how AMAZING I am at my job I always find myself working with sneaky snakes who are protected by upper management and they take advantage of that because no matter what they do, they get away with everything. HR is in place to protect the company not the people. These assholes cultivate such toxic cultures. It's a shame!
@J J - View that as a blessing! Honestly, did you really want to stay in that environment of bullying and office politics?! They did you a favor. Now, share your expert capabilities to another organization via a temp agency (if necessary), as a consultant, or a volunteer. You have a lot to offer! Remember: Don't throw pearls to swine. Few people can recognize or appreciate greatness real time. Be grateful and share your talents where they are needed and appreciated!
Yes, my company was acquired by another and as a result, I got a new director. This person engaged in office drama, played favorites. My strategy was to always be kind, efficient and professional as possible. I was friendly to this person, however, I increased my job searching.
Oh yeah. No surprise. EVERY TIME there is a change in management there are always mass firing regardless of departmental effienficency. They will lie to you and tell you there will be no firings , how they don't want to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs, but really all they want is for you to stay there long enough to teach them your job. (Check out a piece titled The Hatchet Man's Playbook.)
It's important to not just quit your job. It is easier to find a job when you already have one. If your current job is too difficult to work with some people due to politics? It is time to move on. Otherwise it will affect your health and possible your family. Is some work environments, we do have managers or fellow workers who enjoys others pain and cause drama. What your chose to do should be done in a timely manner.
@Angel Wings I know what you mean. I worked as admin in social work services and the managers were so bad and supportive. People would gossip and tattle on me over every little thing I did
Restaurants and Office related jobs are different. I can't agree with your comment entirely because it is bias. Some are harder to stay while others is easy to stay, then move onto another.
@@c.mobley make it simple then, you do not need extra complication in your life besides family problems. I can see that you haven't been bullied in your school days or you still have not learned how to handle bullies. Ignore them as we can't control what is not ours, their actions, mouths, etc are theirs. Just do yours, care for your own goals and move on. Don't even waste a second of precious time on them ut focus on your goals. Work gets harder since they keep harassing you? The management won't do anything and you felt you're stressed and getting health problems? Then think hard, what your goal in working for. If it is for income or career or both, do your current job, ignoring them and during break or after work, go job hunting and find the next job. If every job you went to, you get harassed, then time to reflect about yourself.
So I'm just 19 working with people in the range if 32+ and I feel like I'm being discriminated to my age and lack of experience. This worker always speaks to me in a condescending way and always is keen to remind me that she is my superior. I suffer from anxiety so her patronizing mood intimidates me and causes me to stumble. I know I got the job under control since I've been praised for it but when it's her I'm working with I feel like a newbie again. She is the grumpy one but also has mood swings so she is never consistent. Pray for me!
And tell her that you admire the work that she has done for all of those years. Maybe she’s threatened and a compliment or two will make her leave you alone. :) just an advice that I would give my son your age. I mean if you’re still at that workplace. Always have this tricks up your sleeve. Like a magician!
Everyone wants to take down the big dog haha. Be it fear, jealousy, envy, or an inferiority complex, everyone has a reason it seems. I've found the solution really depends on finding the reasons that people act the way they do towards you. Most people you can just laugh it off or makes jokes about it with said people. Other people (The hostel ones that are afraid of your strength or skill), you have to firmly and swiftly do one of two things. You can either assert your dominance (In a professional way), or make them think they have nothing to worry about. Most people can be easily manipulated once you know what their personality is like.
@@biggreenbananas8929 There are videos on "ghosting" - good word, isn't it. I think the assumption that compels one to ghost is that all workplaces are toxic; therefore one should be as invisible as possible. Be competent, but feign mediocrity? .
Duncan Trout When people see you as competent and you act and talk competent and brandish your competence at everyone like a trophy, be prepared to simmer in heated office politics.
I gotta say all this is good strategy. However, high quality work and personal branding doesn't always pay off for some organizations I have worked with.
Hey Linda, focusing on setting yourself apart is a great goal to have when dealing with office politics. Everyone deals with difficult people at work sometimes, so this video is so relevant. Great job, cheers!
This is a great video. However, from an IO Psychological standpoint....if you’re dealing with a narcissist, sociopath/psychopath...(anti-social personality disorder) you’re going to have hell! You or the sociopath has to leave. I’ve experienced this and had to get out....which now explained the “high turnover” rate in this toxic organization; lest not mentioning numerous legal actions.
Sunny Palms Sunny palms I totally agree, the normal rules of human interaction definitely do not apply with these people, they’ll destroy you and enjoy it
That is why I packed my bags and now deal with goofy goats instead! Oh and those are real farm animals and not people. The fun part is watching the babies go nuts! I think the trade off is awesome. Of did I mention I am the boss? Lol
This is so true!! Aaaaaaaaand usually the person ro stay is the sociopath! They die there! Meanwhile the company has lost so much talent along the way because they turned a blind eye to the real problem. I think anyone who is reading this who is in higher management. If you have a team that is constantly losing people to turnover but one person stays constant, you have to start taking a closer look at the common denominator in all these scenarios. That MAY be where your problem lies!!
Leaving my work mar the fact that have no job yet I just want to leave... I lost myself esteem depression cos of the constant bully I needed the money so bad that I had to endour the pain and the abuse..I am seeing a therapist now they're vampires 3 and half years ago I had a dream about the company after my interview with the boss I should've quit then and dreams keep on repeating for like 3time
Great video. Having spent 30 years in these kinds of environments a lot of this resonates. One of the best things I learned (and teach) on this topic is to de-personalise any conflict and refocus on outcomes.
Linda, I was in a situation where the Management staff were themselves involved with lot of gossiping and politics between two groups. Taking an honest and principled stand did not help as they thought that you are either with them or against them. Result, I have lost my job to redundancy.
I only started watching your video in October after I applied for a job position. My interview was yesterday and it went great!! its. I have not been contacted to say i have gotten the job just yet, I feel I have an edge over the other candidates. your interview questions and answers, coaching on how to be confident helped me. Where I couldn't explain, I gave a story. Thank you Linda!! keep doing what you do.
This video is actually insightful. I have a coworker who is hard to deal with, and it's getting to the point where she's ignoring my comfort zone. The tips given here were pretty strategic and useful. Thank you for uploading this video and giving me some ideas on how to deal with my coworker who is already breaching my comfort zone at work.
Sometimes disagreements in office can be like fighting fire with fire. Its literally never ending office wars and something most of us should stay away from.
You don’t even know me but you have helped me land MY DREAM JOB! I devoured your videos and confidently went for this interview, and sure thing I got the job! Thank you so much, you have no idea of the difference you made, thank you thank you thank you ❤️
I rather work at -30c on a steep roof in the middle of winter than dealing with office employees. Unless i could work without having to talk to anybody.
I could have used this even in my personal life 3 to 4 months ago. It's using emotional intelligence and not being sucked into things because of how we "feel" . This is an excellent video. Thank you. 👍
Mrs. Raynier thank you for your video. Everything that you have said is on point. I will definitely use them whenever need too. Again thank you for sharing.
I discovered by myself after having a very tough and stressful experience from a previous job. Been able to handle the new colleagues. But do recommend folk to stick and work on you high value and daily performance, going to be unstoppable 😊😊
Same! I've had such a hard time at my job earlier in the year.. unfair managers.. the environment was just toxic.. however I've learnt so much from that experience, it made me grow
Thank you so much for sharing this with us. This is what I need and now I know I’m on the right track. Have been through 4 years of being gossiped by coworkers even though I don’t gossip and judge others. Staying away from the crowd and self-pity team is my style. People said sale is all about gossip, if you don’t gossip, you are not a good sales. This is not what believe. By delivering the best value and services to customers and meet even beyond their expectations are my goals. I also don’t do sweet talk to boss which many girls do even have love affairs with married bosses... I don’t do that too. I’m relatively young and single but thank God only got the gossip saying that someone interested in me rather than I got too close with someone and did something inappropriate. Ladies hates me, even though I do help them when they needs help. I have one or two coworkers I truly trust. I have to say, I trust my customer more than coworkers... I’m so happy that I found your channel, and knowing that stay away from petty team is on the right track. Thank you so much.
My soul won’t allow me to play the game. Every time I try I have some success but end up hating myself. It’s so slimy. If I have the integrity to work with and help people I don’t like why aren’t others held to the same standard? Why are they rewarded for their unprofessionalism?
What if someones behaviour is to purposely get a reaction out of you and when you go to your boss to discuss your grievances the person in question plays the victim and terrorises you infront of an office full of people? I’m not a confrontation person... I’m not changing who I am for anybody. I don’t treat others in a way I wouldn’t want to be treated myself but it seems that is apparantly ‘weakness’ ... stop enabling bullies in the workplace !!!!
I just wanted to reply and say how much I agree with you; having been through this scenario myself. Just to add that I feel is possibly because we're not confrontational people, bullies appear to thrive on not being challenged. Suffered this in last contract role, and the bully remained, in my experience they tend to thrive. I refuse to change also, as I would not treat anyone so disrespectfully either. Take care!
Christine Stevens so sorry to hear of your situation being similar to mine. I agree I think that people are just bullies because they get off on not being replied to. I’ve decided to take it as a compliment anyway ... she’s clearly got issues to get off on making others feel weak. My entire office witnessed it and had nothing good to say about her afterwards so even if I spent 2/3 days crying over how embarrassing and humiliating it was - she came out looking a complete fool. Shame on management for not dealing with her though.
We’re pretty much the same although I chose to stand up to workplace bullies and give them a taste of their own medicine by being disrespectful in return. They never appreciate kindness (which is beyond me) and that is the only way I’ve found to shut them up. I wish you the best!
Been there... It was a totally toxic office environment from top to bottom. Suggestion: Refresh your resume hunt a new job then run as fast as you can.
Vaughan Zh on it! I can’t be bothered going home in a bad mood due to my Job anymore. I’m becoming a nightmare to be around and the stress and lack of sleep due to anger over things that happened and what I should have said or done is just tiresome now. A job shouldn’t define me. I’m not an angry person. I want out. Xx
This is a great video for assisting me in better mastering difficult people, drama, and politics in the workplace. Now I can actually be that better leader in the workplace.
One of my favorite speaker. I highly recommend her advice. From the time I am seeking a job then I was hired then I got awards in office till now, All things happened well bec. I listen to her advice. 100% legit 😍
Thank you for addressing this topic, Linda! Now I have a better understanding of office politics. I love your strategies! It turns out I was implementing most of them (learning on the job what and whom to avoid over time), yet I appreciate the confirmation and explanation for each strategy! Overall, the differentiation and encouragement to engage in professional conflicts is very enlightening and makes sense. At the end of the day, most people do not like engaging with someone that agrees with everything and does not have their own opinion. The reasoning that you shared behind engaging in professional conflicts demonstrates to leadership that they have an employee that cares about their organization and its bottom line. That is the type of superstar quality that rockstar management is looking to promote.
Hi linda.. I hope you can also produce a video that discusses SIGNS that a person should quit their job immediately... Just like what other author had posted here in youtube because i wanna know your own version of that matter... Thanks
I once had such people but my process was fun for me, because I make it know to the manager I was there for it but was in to do my job and in peace and go home with peace too in my heart. And he invited the head of my department and that was the end of the drama.
Yep, one toxic worker can sink the whole team. I used to avoid people like this but now I confront it. They actually back down if you are firm and determined.
at my job there is ALOT of nepotism along with the office politics and why I was glad to be working from home. I never said anything negative because you could be talking to the relative of mgmt or some one who is a great friend or a "member of the in crowd" so I put my head down here at home and work. Now getting ready to head back to the office for two days out the week. Atleast it's too days
I gotta say I am at listening to the first point of be a “superstar” at what you do, and I don’t agree. What I have experienced is that because I truly do care about the quality of my work, that I am actively part of the team, always willing to assist others and have certifications above even the managers here, I am perceived as a threat and get the “honor” of watching others get offered better positions while I am being ever so efficient down in the “trenches”. I do appreciate your videos!
It can be challenging for many people to know the right way to deal with conflict or tension in the workplace. Thank you for covering a touchy topic like this!
Hi Linda. Thanks for the info. But I can't control my anger when I go to my management meetings. When myself and my team members needs something important, they refuse to give us. Let say I ordered some kind of machineries, I have to wait for long time. When I ask back, they will blame me. All this makes me feel 😡 😡 angry. I feel like management always win.
Thanks Linda! I think every workplace has a level of office politics (even if everyone is nice). This was well articulated and offered easy solutions. Thank you so much! I also watched your video right before my interview last year and got the job :) keep up your great work💕love from Australia
for twenty years, I worked in a high tech firm, a big one. I became known as an expert in my field, as I was an early adopter of new technologies in 3D CAD, VR that I applied directly to the work at hand. This self taught technical knowledge opened doors for me as I was asked to contribute to a high profile project in Singapore that was critical path for our company. In my capacity as the team designer, I met the challenge and brought the product to market within a year...unheard of at that time. The problem I had was with other people in MY FIELD within the company. Somehow, they took my success as a threat to them. They didn't learn the new technologies and so the opportunities afforded to me, weren't to them and boy did they try to undercut me at every turn. How do you deal with jealousy and envy between professionals....????
Take a note of every negative action of theirs and bring it up to the professional body dealing with the workplace in your country. List out these facts but make it like a report, impersonal. Understand which behaviour verges on rule-breaking. Then either report this person once you leave the company or give it back to them the next time they play funny with you so they are 'caught out' and you've essentially put them in their place.
1. No matter how much good work is done, sometimes, that work will not be noticed. I've worked at places where other co-workers told me to "slow down" and "not do too much" because of not wanting management to demand that everyone improve their work. 2. Being the office expert is often seen as threatening by both management and co-workers. 3. I have been in work situations where I was criticized for not joining in any drama at work, esp. the personal kind. 4. I did limit my time around the co-workers I had at my last job who loved to talk. I kept it on a professional level. I was gossiped about by co-workers and disrespected anyway because I wouldn't tell all of my business. These days, I'd rather do freelance work from home and be alone.
It depends. If everyone from top- down to an organization are contributing to either an unhealthy, or toxic work enviroment you need to ask yourself maybe this isn't the team I want to be on. And maybe this isn't the company for me. Some stuff can be managed but there are also deal breakers within a company that are not negotiable. You have to find those for yourself what you are willing to put up with and things you won't.
What if you sit next to the worst office gossiper who is not only a gossiper but is always negative and complaining? I tried to talk positively, or wear headphones, but I dreaded going to work sometimes knowing there will be complaining every day.
My bosses always says how long they have been working on the organization and how good they are at their job. But when you ask them about something you don't know they'll just look at you and say, "so what's your plan?". IM NOT HERE TO PLAN IM HERE TO SEEK YOUR ADVICE
I've spent 6 years since the age of 16 (going through college, university, and now an internship) preparing for a particular career path. I'm 22 now and I feel I've invested so much of my life into this that I can't just quit now. I don't like going into work but I think the main issue is the people in my workplace (and sometimes the customers), not the actual job itself. But it's depressing to think that I've spent over 1/4 of my life preparing for a career path that I might change because I don't like it :(
You’ve had a wealth of experience irl now. It’s looking good on paper and employer would want to hire you. What making you stay in that particular environment?
I use to work in a family owned company...the drama was so intense that it affected you to the bone, everyone who wasn't family wasnt listened to, and the if you spoke up it was taken as "bitching." I think the only thing that would have worked at that office was is the boss had more children to fill up every single job, and by that point his children would sink the company just by being so unmotivated that they just browsed social media until the whole thing collapsed. Family owned businesses dont work, if you find yourself in one get out asap. Just my experience.
OM, I am a specialist, the execs listened to an assistant who never does according to her job program because she goes to the same church as the boss. I objected and tried offering alternatives, got shoved into a corner for 6 months. And I still have to serve the assistant's son who is also in the organisation politely. (Of course he goes to the same church as the boss!) Maybe its not the company that's worth working for.
You say stay away but what if the drama queen and chatty one is the one that work next to you on the same desk? How do u walk away from who works in your same position and same desk?
I accepted a new job, learned it, and did it well. I got kudos from others and the customers we'd service, BUT I had a lead that didn't like me, and that was all it took. She was good for "setting" people up and eliminating them. She had complaints BUT management did not care because it did not AFFECT them......yet. In the healthcare industry, if something gets screwed up, you have legal issues.
I've always loved your outlook on jobs but I feel like this isn't quite what I was expecting. I currently go great work, I've set myself apart by taking on the social media aspect for my company, and yet I work with someone who doesn't meet deadlines, isn't a team player and complains constantly and ...who recently got promoted ahead of me and now talks down to me. Doing my job isn't going to help this, cause my manager already sees something in her more then me and I have no clue what it could be or how to handle the favouritism.
ThruHerEyez the key idea is that there's nothing you can do about the other person. The focus is on you. The big question I'd like to ask you is..."have you made yourself irreplaceable?" That's the point of my video. :)
@@LindaRaynier There are some job functions just can't become too irreplaceable. I'm currently at the first year at work and i'm a marketing assistant. It's not something that needs too much training or skills
I loved this video! Thank you so much, as I found the ideas and suggestions you gave to be useful. What can one do though when it's the newly hired manager who's created a new culture filled with office politics and clear apparent favoritism among a few (4-5) newly hired staff from a previous company? Is there a professional way to address the favoritism (politics) concern?
I’d like to find a video on how to deal with mentally ill or people with personality defects. I also find that doing quality work and being productive often makes you a target of others.
Donald Trump was once asked in an interview how he handled working with difficult people. His response? "I don't. They're working for somebody else now."
I think that's good leadership. I only wish more employers would take a strong stand against eliminating drama queens and troublemakers in the workplace.
You have put my thoughts into good quality words.... You are a product not a person.... Remember that and dont get tied up in personal crap in the office.
I've been with the Department of Revenue for a little over a month...I've learned that the training style consists of my colleagues talking about what I am "doing wrong" and not showing me the correct training. I'm the last to know, but the only one who needs to know? How inefficient is that?!....I just told two of them yesterday "if I am doing something wrong, come to me and tell me, most likely the training has fallen through the cracks". The look I got was like I told the one woman to out to the parking lot and kill someone. YEA QUIT TALKING ABOUT ME!
In the company that I am working right know one of my manager discriminate me due to my pilipino accent and I just ignored him but many times I just want to stand up for myself but I know that I will lose my job because the Director will surely take his side.
I was pulled aside the other day by a co-worker who is the office gossiper and she said to me “you better be careful about how much you are out because so and so made a comment about it yesterday.” Should I be worried?
Thank you for what you do I watch your videos as a self-help in my daily practice when I go out to interviews your information has been great how to deal with these inconsistent co-workers this information was also great thank you for your great work and keeping people such as myself saying in the office although I haven't landed the job that I have been looking for I will continue trying and thank you
Promoting people based on favoritism, rather than performance and every day good behavior, is a very serious problem at my workplace. Unless the entire management is replaced, there is nothing we cant do other than finding another jobs.
Even some managers or supervisors are very negative or not supportive when you are trying to better yourself; like going to college or looking for another job with a higher position, etc... 🤔
Have you been in a situation where you had to deal with difficult people at work and had to deal with office drama? What was your process like? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
If you get a chance, check out a piece titled The Hatchet Man's Playbook. I think it will answer your question.

Thank you!

In my case, I am frustrated due to my arrogant, micro managing, over pressuring, demeaning boss
People hate you at work because:
1. Your are better than them, you are a threat.
2. They want to be you.
3. They hate themselves.
Exactly! How do u make a jealous idiot with low self-esteem (=narcissist) to leave you alone 😫😫😫
Sue??? CA
So true
Patty Loves : cooperate with your boss. If he insists you use fewer supplies, do so. If the workplace is less clean it’s management’s responsibility to correct that.

There’s a great read, “The No Asshole Rule.” It’s short and too the point about recognizing toxic workplaces and people, and practicing coping skills. Ultimately it’s usually best to move on from a truly hostile work environment.
That’s a great way of looking at it! I’m gonna start doing the same.
I have been a victim of this.. first they isolate you. Then they gossip about you, give you code names etc.,they ignore you/refuse to help, highlight your faults. Weak people give up.

People couldn't handle the mind games at work, they snap ✔️💵💥
Isn't that the truth!

Yes, my company was acquired by another and as a result, I got a new director. This person engaged in office drama, played favorites. My strategy was to always be kind, efficient and professional as possible. I was friendly to this person, however, I increased my job searching.
@Cheryl Goldsworthy - Ha, initially I read that as "I got a new dictator." Thanks for the laugh (although I read it wrong), I needed that today!
Oh yeah. No surprise. EVERY TIME there is a change in management there are always mass firing regardless of departmental effienficency. Being the best also means being the target of office politics. How about that? How to handle your enemies and make them work for your own ambitions?
Everyone wants to take down the big dog haha. Be it fear, jealousy, envy, or an inferiority complex, everyone has a reason it seems. I've found the solution really depends on finding the reasons that people act the way they do towards you. Most people you can just laugh it off or makes jokes about it with said people. Other people (The hostel ones that are afraid of your strength or skill), you have to firmly and swiftly do one of two things. You can either assert your dominance (In a professional way), or make them think they have nothing to worry about. Most people can be easily manipulated once you know what their personality is like.
@@jimbob-ic5kc Thats a good one. How do you make them think there is nothing to worry about ?

I agree totally! Jealousy is the reason... others will subvert your successes and will not stop until you leave !

Sunny Palms I think people shouldn’t higher a psychopath/sociopath/narcissist/anti-social people, why should anyone have to deal with their issues.

Linda, I was in a situation where the Management staff were themselves involved with lot of gossiping and politics between two groups. Taking an honest and principled stand did not help as they thought that you are either with them or against them. Result, I have lost my job to redundancy.

I can’t be bothered going home in a bad mood due to my

I really like this video, I feel as if I follow this exact same plan to get ahead with my employer, and past employers. Well done.

I once had such people but my process was fun for me, because I make it know to the manager I was there for it but was in to do my job and in peace and go home with peace too in my heart.
And he invited the head of my department and that was the end of the drama.

Hi Linda. Thanks for the info. But I can't control my anger when I go to my management meetings. When myself and my team members needs something important, they refuse to give us. Ma'am I am a big fan of your videos. You teaches us a lot of things.
for twenty years, I worked in a high tech firm, a big one.
What if the manager himself is promoting politics against you..
They won't last long.
Quit!

Time to look somewhere
Very focused, smart & short guidance .. thx
But it's depressing to think that I've spent over 1/4 of my life preparing for a career path that I might change because I don't like it :(
Who ever told you life will come without offenses. Professional development is about building strategies to prepare yourself for them. Good luck. 👍
You’ve had a wealth of experience irl now. It’s looking good on paper and employer would want to hire you. What making you stay in that particular environment?
Thank you for this advice, it makes a few very interesting points on how I can manage my team more effectively.
you do a good job you become a target of jealous people who then got to war with you with out you knowing.
Let Go easy fix. Assume you are at retrospective war with everyone from the onset
Not So Usual I know
Linda hats off ! Much needed topic to have clarity on ...
I was needing to hear this out
You say stay away but what if the drama queen and chatty one is the one that work next to you on the same desk? How do u walk away from who works in your same position and same desk?
thank you, I needed this lately
AMAZING VIDEO!!! really like this and thank you VERY much this video helps a lot!
Great Video! High quality advice!
"Its not what you know, it is who know"
@@LindaRaynier There are some job functions just can't become too irreplaceable. I'm currently at the first year at work and i'm a marketing assistant. It's not something that needs too much training or skills
Linda Raynier if you make yourself irreplaceable then don’t cry when you don’t get promoted and are pigeon holed as the widget pusher
Thank you for this video you're on point doing all the right stuff.
As a person with Aspergers I've got people forcing me to communicate but I communicate my own way
I loved this video!
Ja, ja, ja...good answer.
He was probably the difficult person..
Probably, when you see episodes of The Apprentice.
I think that's good leadership. I only wish more employers would take a strong stand against eliminating drama queens and troublemakers in the workplace.
probably the only smart thing he's said.
Thank you for making this video. Such a refreshing take on timeless concepts. Just what I was looking for!
I work hard but it’s unnoticed it’s making me slack I’m doing just enough to get by most people do less
In the company that I am working right know one of my manager discriminate me due to my pilipino accent and I just ignored him but many times I just want to stand up for myself but I know that I will lose my job because the Director will surely take his side.
Alex Kiko ...
Saang bansa b yan kuya?
I love this, now I know to talk to my coworkers but pull away once they start gossiping.
Great video thank you for your knowledge:)
