Nice methodical work, did you use lime mortar or cement to point, personally I would of used lime with sharp sand.

Great idea to save your vintage tile. I purchased a home in Palm Springs with Saltillo tile through the backyard and around the pool. Maybe I could keep it by cleaning, grouting then replacing the broken ones.

For tiles that have a ton of wax, would sand blasting be a good way to get it off or would that be more harmful to the tile?

DEFINITELY DON'T. Sanding and sandblasting will ruin the surface of the tile thus ruining the integrity of the tile and will make them quickly deteriorate. Think French bread. Hard surface but soft inside

My God ! It's a murder to lay these old tiles with cement! And making joints so wide, it's unbelievable ... 40 years of laying in France ... I've never seen that !!

What caused you to remove tiles? Were they broken? Loose?
