I burned my house down completely. The tiles are still on the floor.
LMAO 🤣
😀😀😀
Maybe first wetting them then burning
😆🤣🤣🤣
Lol same 😂 I like
The method of heating and tapping with rubber hammer worked. I have a water leak under my slab. Had to remove 5 tiles that have been down for 10+years. Took time and patience but it worked. I used hot hair dryer. Tks
Like a blow dryer for hair? Great Idea. I'll try it.
Or a heat gun.
if the tile is loose already, why even use heat to loosen it up? Works without heat but needs patience and being gentle with the lifting

Amazing.
I did exactly that many times and it works.
Some, of course, broke but most of them did not.

I think that was a very genius way you did it and the finish look fantastic good job.
Simply amazing! I don't plan to do this any time soon, however this is an obviously excellent idea worth keeping for one of those "just in case," situations.
Thank you for posting.
Just in case of what?
The guy was on fire.
If you break a tile, you will have to remove it anyway and the tile is already damaged. If there is a air gap under your tile, HOW big a deal is this? Not much if you have good adhesion and the tile is firmly in place.

Unbelievable what a good technique 👍
For the very specific application of removing tile and not destroying the piece, this is actually quite phenomenal.

I thought I would try this. After finishing my shower, I was installing the trims and found out the valves were plumbed wrong. Since I couldn't get to the plumbing from the back, I had to remove 5-36 x 24 tiles. I just used a propane plumbing torch after removing the grout. 2 tiles broke in small chunks but by and large all 5 tiles came off the wall with a little prying. I had no intention of saving and reusing the tile so it's a win for me. I didn't have to beat the wall with a hammer.

Thats a good reason to back butter your tile. It takes a little longer but they wont be hollow underneath.
It kind of looks like they did but what in the world is the subfloor? It looks like dirt. What I like to do is use a notch towel that's a bit oversized, make and even layer with the niche all going the same direction, which is perpendicular to the longest side of the tile, and make sure to press the tile into it and wiggle it perpendicular to the towel marks.
Ah yes, a video about tiling. Exactly what I needed.
Bravo, majsrote svaka ti cast !!

Very clever, but would the heat application also work if the tiles were set into a cement based adhersive? Or only if it was a base adhersive that normally would soften with the application of heat, unlike cement and fine sand?

A better way then burning. Remove the grout as shown. Seal up the room and flood to a depth of 100mm for two weeks. Hey presto the water has softened the adhesive enough to lift all the tiles. You might need to replaster the walls and maybe replace the underfloor oh and maybe the ceiling beneath, small price to pay for unbroken tiles that you can relay in about 6months after it’s dried out. No need to thank me.

@@eduardstadtler3708 Yeah. This sounds like nonsense. I don't think a torch is going to do ANYTHING to tile laid with thin set on a proper substrate like cement board or just a plain concrete slab..... except maybe crack the tile.

Reminds me of breaking the seam on a granite countertop..:Run propane torch up and down seam to soften the glue so you can begin scoring it with a heavy exacto blade and be careful not to overheat the granite as you may pop a chunk out!
Nice work
Fabuloso!!!!
Those tiles sounded so hollow I bet you could've popped them up without heat
Agree, I dont think the heat had anything to do with it.
Only time I use a heat gun is with epoxy grout and it comes out like butter. Unless I'm missing something obvious these would have came out easy. But if heat does do something im missing. Let me know because i will teach everyone in my company
This video is very satisfying
this can only work if the tile has an air pocket underneath. also in my country most masons (all of them amateurs even though they think they're not) use upto 1 foot deep of tile adhesive (between 4 inches to 1 ft) instead of filling the void with regular concrete before using the tile adhesive at 1in to 1/2in thickness. mainly because they could not care less that tile adhesive is worth 10 times more than cement per kilo, and they absolutely dont care if they rip off the client. which is why i tend to do all tiling work myself (with some help from my brother to help things along).
Where are you located? Regardless of location, a lot of people “busy” but very few professionals .
1ft deep? Concrete or mortar? 1inch of tile adhesive? I would thing 1/8th inch or so at most!!
The sound difference is indicative of air pocket or gaps, so it should work if there is the sound diff, in my opinion.
If the tile doesn't have an air pocket underneath, you don't need to remove it.
Atleast you're not full of yourself.
amazing job
nicely done
When I think of removing tiles it is usually a long, noisy, dusty and laborious process. Just grinding away the grout you gotta seal off the room you are doing it in or it gets everywhere.
It appears to work great on for those exceedingly rare tiles that have just a tiny amount of adhesive on the edges.
It looks to me like its the face of the concrete shearing off. The tile was covered with adhesive. Tho he did not put enough adhesive when he layed them, at least from what I can see. Also I'm not sure that tourch was doing anything. Cutting the grout out helped more than anything. Those tiles were already loose.
wow dude i love u, it works!

You need to "butter the back" of the tiles when you set them or at least just rub some wet mud on the back of the tile. setting dry tile on mortar is why the tile didn't bond the first time. You can also add a little link (liquid polymer) to your water and moisten the back. Water let's the mortal make contact with the tile air does the opposite. Same with putting stucco on a block wall, you put link on then you mist it with water before you apply the mud otherwise it can just flake off.

Using the torch is a great way to get the tile to pop off the tiny part holding it. Most customers and OSHA get a little upset with the big torch but I still like it. 🙂
The tile didn't bond? Look again.
