Here I'm testing the feather-weight Coro box boat with a 1.2hp motor.
If you have some tools and skills I offer build plans here:
elkinsdiy.com/product-categor...
I'm finalizing build plans right now. Should be ready soon on my web site under 'plans'
YOU rock..... you have given me so many ideas and inspired the tree fort build this summer as well as other projects I am obsessing about. You seem to be such a well rounded guy who still has not forgotten to keep the kid alive. Thanks again for your time and efforts my son can't wait to get the coroplast boat started, he is 5 but first will be his bike mini camper. I wish you all good things. Greetings form Latvia !
Ingenious! Keep up that wonderfully creative energy!
You have truly inspired me! Was this thing hard to build, after watching this i really wanna make my own little boat! :D
It goes the same speed and handles wave very nicely.
Look up Fluted plastic. Coroplast is the USA trade name, but fluted plastic is the universal name. It's used outside campaign signs, so try your local sign shops.
Love your song renditions unsung13. You've got talent.
Yes and no. I still used a 6mm thick sheet, which is difficult to bend. It's still a 4x8 ft sheet. Plans coming soon.
Thanks for another great project Paul. It looks like a lot of fun!
Paul! I’m just now finding your videos and have started my own build super excited to see how she floats. I would love to see an update on how the boats have lasted over the last 6 years.
Really cool boat!
Love your builds keep it up Paul.
Surprisingly not too much different. The V hulll definitely leans into a turn and the flat bottom does some real tight donuts. The flat bottom hull also torques a bit more than the V hull because it's not triangulated.
Ideally a plastics supply store. An alternative is sign shops. Remember this boat uses 6mm thick, not 4mm which is the standard.
Hey sailor that's a nice boat.🚣
I think it was Phil Bolger who said the best size boats were two; big enough to live on comfortably, or light enough to carry. I think yours qualifies as to the latter. I can no longer look at election signs that line the road without thinking of your boats. If you get this one on a plane with a gamefisher then that means I have to make one too.
I like your boat... it's Very nice...
Thanks Joe. I'm putting the finishing touches on the plywood electric boat. I know I keep saying this, but soooon!
Your an awesome guy!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING!!! i love your builds and videos! i want to be you when i grow up LOL :)
You are awesome !
I need one like that !
Nice job! I love all of your boats especially that one. You did a great job, keep up the good work. Also I think you should try to build a sailboat. Just an idea!
fantastic
You always make me smile, I think I would need a 2 sheeter as i'm pushing 270lb, and maybe a 6 hp :-) looks like fun though.
Very cool! NOW GET THAT NEW MOTOR!!!
Very cool
do you think you could do an over view on the whole boat? i am interested in building my own but am unsure on how to do the cutting and folding so if you could do that, that would be great! thanks!!
amazing you should sell these im sure you would make a fortune thanks for uploading ....col.
where do you get your motors. awesome vidoe btw
you should make a tutorial on how to make one
Liprippers he won’t. He charges for his plans.
cool! are there any alternatives to 'coroplast' ? i dont think we have it in Australia..
Have you ever been to sea Billy?
@300 yrs ago with Spanish renegades in the gold bearing rivers of BC Canada?
thats dope
That's one fast speed boat
looks a bit slower than the smaller design, but im sure with a bigger motor this thing would plane and get going pretty quickly! same gamefisher that was on the other boat?
man tht is cool
Hi Paul,
Nice boat, I was wondering what are the dimension? I assume that you used a 4'x8' sheet. Was is less difficult to achieve the bends with that design? Keep innovating
Crikey, imagine what you could do with TWO sheets!
Really cool. How did you build it. By the way. I love you little wooden boat with trolling motor. I would love plans for that one also.
I need one of those how can I buy a complete one
Do think that it's possible To make a small johnboat style. One that could be stood upright in for fishing an the like compered to a speed boat style. Just a question
How is the tracking of the flat bottom version versus your original V-hull version?
If anyone is interested in how the folds are done on the yellow boat im sure theres a video on pauls website that shows some folds.......besides i just did it with trial and error using a piece of paper til i sussed it out.
Does it go faster than the other one and how does it handle waves
I haven't tried to stand up in this boat, so I couldn't really say. Probably no.
Actually can you stand in boat? Can it take the tossing and turning if you were standing in it.
I need that outboard.......
I was wondering how many people can it hold
hi paul :) very nice again haha looks very light, if i can track down some coroplast would like to try build a boat :)
how is it all held together and watertight though? haha :) thanking you for sharing the video :)
Hi. Mr. Elkins. I have aski. How. Many. Long. Inch. The. Boat ?
A bigger version of this would make a sweet tender for a liveaboard sailboat.
How do you even store all of these vehicles?
I'm so shocked coroplast can handle the load without sinking lol my first boat here I come lol all jokes aside does the coroplast hold air tight or something with zipties or is there a material between them to make it less likely to leak... I understand how to pretty much diy minus the way to seal off the water in the designs above... and from my lack of marine knowledge but between big rivers and lakes have any difference in things like this prodject or would I need it thicker mm on rivers or something by chance?
+Brett Sullins
Hey Brett. I would shy away from having the hull striking any object other than a nudge, so I don't recommend this be a river boat. It is tough stuff but if you want the hull to last... It just takes a few bolts to hold this boat together. It's like a Chinese food to-go box in that it holds water out rather than in. Simple. Still, the plans show the best construction techniques. Unfortunately I set the pilot weight limit of 185 lbs. You can go more but at your own risk.
Ok thanks just didn't know if the mm of the board had anything to do vs size of the board but thanks
I bought these plans, about to do my build!
Brooklyn Avenue how did it go
I'm curious also.
How are the seams sealed? Just zip ties and silicon?
Where did you get the plans? His website doesn't work abymore
I am impressed. How do you think coroplast would work as a core material for composite construction? I was wondering if it could be used with inner and outer layers of fiberglass for small boats.
I really couldn't tell you Brian. I've never tested that out, but no reason why you couldn't take a small found campaign, glass it up and test out your theory. I'd pre-sand the surface and find a cutting agent before glassing. Coro is notorious for deflecting most chemicals, which makes bonding sometimes difficult. On the 4mm coro you can bend it in the direction of the flutes up to a 12" radius, but nothing compound.
+Paul Elkins ill buy the boat for 50 doller ;)
Google search 'fluted plastic' including your nearest city. You should get a list of potential sellers. Give each a call. I use 6mm thick 4x8 foot sheet for the hull. It's not easy to find but keep searching.
i am going to build one of these but paul, i have a couple questions.where did you get the pulleys for the string to steer the engine and the one on the back of the steering wheel?also did you seal any cracks that water could get like on the front sides and in the back, if so with what?
contact me at Paulwelkins At Yahoo dot commm
I'll give you more detail.
Will you make a build video for your electric boat
I tried making a boat but I connected the wheel to a fin under the boat. sorta worked.
Where do you buy coroplast
what is the diffrence between coroplast and foamboard
olkku one is made out of plastic the other is paper and foam
💯
Think there's a good reason our planet is over 2/3 water! Over 2/3 awesome!
I don't know for fact, but I THINK you could fiberglass that shell and it would be about 10X tougher without much weight added... Just a thought. Enjoyed the video! Thanks!
What engine is that
Refinements. :)
can you catch fish on it??
I want one,
ive seen it around in aus, alot of signs use it :/ just have to have a look around i guess
how is the thin flimsy coroplast able to hold the heavy motor up?
He uses a wood board for the transom mount.
Brooklyn Avenue Excellent!
Cosmo John I built one and I did the same, it did work. That said, I am now building a plywood board boat, something stronger.
Brooklyn Avenue Good on you! Keep making!
motor only weighs 12 pounds. I own two of them. it makes 1.2 up at full throttle. at half throttle it will run for about 2 hours on a pint and a half of internal fuel. my dad and I put one on our 17 foot folbot kayak. half throttle gave about 5.5 mph cruise speed. great little motor.
Would you sell this one
Tutorial? Plans???? :D
Не плохо.
Put a 9,9 Evinrude on it ,!!!
trans-atlantic epic journey :-)
Hmmmm. Maybe if I tow a barge of food and gas...
paul i was inspired and i made a chloroplast mini mansion boat www.kaidens mine mansions t\
I won't won so Badly give me won
I wont 1 bluiz
Would you sell this one
