The Liberty boat is fairly simple for the first time boat builder.
If you have some basic tools and some skills I offer build plans here:

Beside the practical ingenuity of this design, I also like the intuitive steering mechanism. Crossing the ropes to guide the rudder so you go in the direction you point seems logical and easy, especially for us non-sailors.
Very nice design Paul.
Very cool Paul!! Somehow I always land your videos...very fun to see all of your different ideas and builds. thanks for sharing.
A few inches under 8 feet long. One sheet of 1/4" marine grade plywood was cut lengthwise down the center for the deck and bottom. 1"x12" pine boards make up the sides, bow, middle, seat and transom bulkheads.
I've used two small 12v auto batteries and also a medium size deep cycle trolling motor. This battery weighs about 55 lbs and slips in the rear trunk accessed behind the seat back.
Love your stuff. Thanks for posting.
Well done yet again! Very inspirational!
I used rope for steering, and basically an extension cord to connect the controler to the motor.
Wow, COOL ! Some of the most fun times we have is in things don't don't cost much, do doing things that don't cost much. I remember in the 1990's the most fun vacations I had was when my family went to Florida for 2 weeks and went camping together (because we didn't have enough money to rent a hotel.) It was roughing it but that's all we could afford, and we were happy to get out of the Canadian cold anyways no matter what. Low cost, but we were having a great time.
Most of my boats are flat bottom for ease of construction. A glorified box if you will. I like tiny sizes too, and weak motors. Don't know why, just do...
Awesome ! I would like to make one.
Sweet ride!
you are so awesome man !
Reminds me a lot of an old "sneak box" duck hunting boat.
that is neat thanx 4 sharing
another great video.
Thanks for sharing
Hi Paul would you do a video on how how make the stearing wheel like this one you put the handle of the trolling motor up grunt how did you make the controlled work I want to make a boat like this and make the trolling motor the exact same way
Love your DIY stuff and webpage I just Subscribed to your youtube channel, have you ever seen the video "Folding Boat with No Parts Is Tough Enough" id love to build a folding boat of some sort, but the kayak looks a bit tough to get all the folds done nicely, especially for a someone with little experience with the material. Keep up the great work, and hope to see some new designs in the future!
I've been glued to your site for the last two days. I am ready to build one of these, you gonna have plans up, chief?
Nice, thanks.
Excellent
love it
Cool I need to make me one slitly bigger sail with side swing dagger bord
thanks.
hi Paul - id love to make one of these for sailing - how stable was it without a keel when you sailed her? are plans available ?
cheers
have you ever looked into displacement hulls, I noticed with all of your boats they are all flat bottom planing hulls. If you went to displacement you could move much more efficiently.
so relaxing ahh
Awesome :)
I built a small boat about 2 foot wide out of 1x6 planks, and it's unstable as hell! How'd you get your's so stable? Mines about 2 foot some odd wide, six foot or so long; I call her Tomstone... XD
how fast will it go with the trolling motor?
how did you connect both parts of the motor to steer?
I've been thinking about building a plywood boat and I was wondering how tall should I make the sides and by the way I'm about 6'1 230 pounds
On this I used 1x12" boards for the sides. The 24" width means I only had to use one sheet for top and bottom, but another sheet could be added and just widen the hull some. On my other 1/4" plywood boat the width is about 28" and the sides are 14" tall at the deepest point, and hold more weight than this design.
what size battery with that 36 trolling motor?
para cuando un micro crucero?
how did yow make it
Paul, thanks for posting this! It is exactly what I've been looking for! Quick question: what is your average weight? I'm a big guy at 6'5" 245lbs. My latest sketch for my version is about ten feet long and three feet wide. I intend to go with thicker plywood for the bottom and 1/4" for the decks with some sealed compartments for emergency flotation. Any suggestions/thoughts? Finally, you're a man after my own heart! I just love to see what else I can build. Keep it up!
AF CavemanToday I decided to make formal plans for this boat seeing the season is upon us soon. I'm hoping to finish them very soon. keep checking out my website, I'll anounce it there.I would recommend getting 2 sheets of ply and making the hull about 4" wider. You can also make the rear bottom flat instead of curving up which would add boyancy. I have had 6'2" 250 pound people pilot this boat with a small trolling motor and car battery, but only in calm water. Still I would try to keep it at 8 foot length for hull integrity.
Thanks for the advice! I plan to use it primarily for fishing and only in calm waters, hence the reason for the extra room and a more open cockpit. I'll keep an eye out for your plans.
how fast does it go?
What's the overall length of the boat ?
Hi, do you have a link for these plans at all? If so, could you send me them please? Thanks in advance.
Paul you always have great videos. How about a electric 4 wheel bike like your one ya named after your DAD
can you send me the engridiens to make it
I should have plans available within the week. Check back later at my website Elkinsdiy dot commm under 'plans'
Ring Shanked Nails?
I'm thinking about buying these instructions but I don't know the best type of wood I should use. I have old sheet wood and steel nails.
Is that good enough??
i checked the site, no plans on the liberty. may i email you as well?
You should put a gas enging on it
Let the plans of the boat on the description
Hi Paul, what is the lenght of this boat? I'm in the middle of building myself one :)
Thanks for sharing this amazing idea.
+Deejay Energia aka ZOUK-LIVE It's a little under 8 ft long. Did you purchase plans or are you winging it?
+Paul Elkins no I didn't. I designed a plan on a piece of paper and I think that I'm ready to start. Could you advise on any type of glue for the edges?
+Paul Elkins could length be shorter for a short guy like me or would that mess everything up
+James Weems No, you could shorten it. Lengthening it would be a bit hard though.
Ok thank you
HOw long does your deep cycle battery last?
Depends. A new battery will go full out for about 2.5-3 hours. I've been on the water for 4 hours stopping and going.
totally understand. be fun to take a 3S 5000Mah Lipo as a backup or "reserve" would fit in your front pocket. But hey cool boat bro!
You should put a 80 lbs motor on that
you should put a 250 HP yamaha on it. Better power to weight ratio than a formula 1 car.
How is the bottom of the boat? is it just flat ?
and out of what material is it ? :) many thanks
yes
unem1000
Paul Elkins the widest part is 2 feet what about the shortest part near the legs how wide is that part of the boat ? Also is the seat in the middle of the boat or is it better to sit further back ?

So sad that I clicked on this or that people would be interested in a boat that would tip right over.
You must be referring to when I include the spinnaker sail. I have had some adrenaline rides when the winds were fierce, but in the 200 or so outings with this boat I've never tipped it over, nor have other riders.
