Tuggy Sandbox Boat Build goes Full Send (BUSTED)

  • Building, Testing, and absolutely shredding this little tikes "Tuggy" sandbox boat! I go in depth of how to build one, and what mistakes I made along the way. Once it's up and running we get people's reactions, as well as the police's reactions (spoiler: these were awesome guys). Afterwards we have an absolute riot with friends trying this out. Let me know your future video ideas down in the comments!
    Advice to anyone who wants to build one - find a step 2 model if you can (white top). This little tikes one has very little material on the back end and is more likely to take in water, the Step 2 ones were much better for this. Obviously, if that's all you can find, the little tikes works great as well!

    One of my buddies has been driving around Lake Michigan in a very similar tug boat sand box, since 2010... Since he had it registered, (and it also had navigation lights, a portable radio, horn, oars, etc) the Coast Guard did an inspection, and gave him a vessel approval sticker to take it out on the waterways. He has been enjoying many years out on the lake with it... Although yours is way faster because he only has a trolling motor on it.. Great video. And wishing you many great years out on the water with your cool little boat.

    Ths fact it has nav lights but didnt have a bailing bucket or paddles or rope etc was hilarious 😂
    Upgrade ideas
    - add small atv battery up front and wire up a tiny bilge pump and attach hose the outlet hose to motor mount to spray out the back...save ya some pumping at least untill battery dies.
    -Can also run wires up to nav light inside "roof" part to hide the wires and make light functional for when it starts to get dark.
    - rivet on a paddle clip/holder somewhere to hold manual bailing pump just to get it off the floor and out of the way
    - Wire up loud electric horn beside the nav lights and hide wires the same way...loud horn tiny boat = funny
    - collapsible paddle or just a really small one to match boats size and so it doesn't take up too much space
    - 2nd paddle holder to actually hold the paddle.
    -5l Jerry can for extended fuel range

    • @Offroadcircus
      @Offroadcircus  3 месяца назад +11

      I agree having a battery to run the lights, a horn, & a pump would be super cool! I actually had it all wired up inside the boat just in in case before I put the foam in. Some clips/holders for paddles would be awesome if I run into 5-O again, especially because there is no room to store anything on the floor (which is why I didn't bring them in the first place). Who knows how lucky i'll be the next time, lol. The boat goes about 1 hour on the integrated tank - I'd guess a 5l jerry can would probably 6x the range. Thanks for the Ideas!

    I bought one of these for my little niece who adored it. Thoughts of making it seaworthy crossed my mind but never pursued them.
    Ten years later I came across it while visiting my sister. Sun damage had warped it and had several large holes from where some animals had chewed through. I offered to take it to the dump but my niece insisted on keeping it. She privately told me it was her favorite of all time!

Everyone on the lake had comments most loved it and wanted one. Wasn't fast but it was enjoyable. A lot more fun than peddling it. One tank took me once around the lake. I called it the Pollywog. now I want one for pond fishing

  • @dougearnest7590
    @dougearnest7590 3 месяца назад

    This is merely the start of something awesome.
    A small trolling motor (30# thrust) moves my 18' fiberglass (with plenty of wood and metal) sailboat along at a nice clip with one adult and two kids on board, so it could probably make this thing fly. I suspect the trolling motor is a lot lighter so you'll be taking a lot of weight off the stern.
    Build a waterproof box for the battery and position it (attached to the boat) about where you're sitting on that crate. That additional weight in the center (and as low as you can get it) will help with the stability.
    IF you want to put a bigger motor on it (and maybe if you want to stick with the same motor) put those engineering skills to work and find a way to get all that weight off the transom and closer to the middle of the boat - or get some floatation under the stern.
    Also build into the boat more floatation (as in a large waterproof box or two) - in addition to their primary purpose (to prevent the boat from sinking) it can also take up space inside your boat - which can be a good thing when your boat is filling with water. If they're along each side, then the water will pool along the centerline. If you have an automatic bilge pump to bail out the water that would be even better. If the tops can open (with waterproof lids of course), that's also dry storage.
    Anything you do to build up the sides (the gunnel) to make it more difficult for water to swamp the boat would also be good. Even if it's something like pool noodles - every little bit helps. It could also help you take on less water if you have floatation (like fenders) attached to the sides. Put them above the waterline so there's no drag when you're flying straight and level, but will prevent the boat from heeling over as far.
    It's nice to have a pfd in the boat - but a lot of people have died in the water with a pfd in the boat.
    Stop abusing the boat - it's too valuable to be launching out the back of a van onto pavement.
    Have you tried calling that number yet?

    Well done man! Cops were nice, but they got two things wrong, if you're wearing your pfd (think jet ski) you don't need oars or a rope or anything, other than a whistle. Just a sound signaling device although a rope and bailer are good ideas. For those living is the US of freedom, depending on what state you're in you'd need to get your sand box registered. In Canada you don't need a boat license (number on the hull) if you're under 10hp.

    • @Offroadcircus
      @Offroadcircus  2 месяца назад

      That’s a good point, usually the jet ski guys have nothing on them and they seem to do fine. From a safety standpoint if I had an issue with this boat people would stop by with or without a whistle lol
