This time we'll learn how to use "てみる" (= "to try ~ing") and "ようとする (= "to try to ~ / to attempt to ~") in Japanese.
This grammar point is VERY important and frequently used in Japanese so make sure to master it!
For example, if you want to say "May I try this on?", you want to use this form てみる and say
「着てみてもいいですか。」(kite-mite-mo ii desu ka)

officially my favorite youtuber now
1 year later and she's still so.
I hope you are at a intermediate level now by watching her videos.

please continue making these videos Ammo, thank you for all
Her name is Misa 😂
I hope you are at a intermediate level now by watching her videos.
I’m so grateful I found your channel. I didn’t know any Japanese when I came to Tokyo and I felt so isolated and alone. My boyfriend says he doesn’t know how to teach me since it’s his native language and explaining the grammar is difficult for him, but your explanations are so patient and helpful. I really hope I can learn Japanese through your channel so I don’t have to be so alone anymore. I don’t want to always feel like I’m on the edge of society here and like I’m stupid every time I try to communicate with anyone. Thank you so much! 💕
I hope you are at a intermediate level now by watching her videos.
What is your level now?
So lazy boyfriend 🤣. How are you now?
昨日は日本語を勉強しようとしましたが眠くなって寝ちゃいました。(笑)
この素敵な動画を作ってくれて本当にありがとうございます!
Am I the only one who laughed so hard when she said “You can’t just say 「てみて!」on its own”? 🤣🤣🤣
I basically just learned Japanese, somewhat solely through your videos and OMG, I can speak (albeit poorly) to my Japanese boyfriend. 😍 I’ll sign up for Patreon just to support you!
ミサ先生の絵を描いてみたい〜✨
I also laughed 😂 I appreciate Misa's sense of humor
この動画がすごく役にたつです。
日本人の友達と話したら、『〜てみる』と『〜ようとした』を使ってみます。
ありがとうございますみさ先生!
(役に立つ is a verb, so the polite version is 役に立ちます)
Favorite Japanese teacher on RUclips . You keep things very simple & clear . Maybe harder for others who don’t know basic Japanese but for me is easy
I definitely love your videos. 教えてくれてありがとう!
Thanks for another lesson Misa. Am really learning a lot from your channel. Very very practical

Misa, your videos are so so helpful but it takes me a week to watch one because there's soooo much for me to unpack. Hopefully gets easier over time.
Love all these new verbs 👏✨

Very Good explanation, i've always wondered about that.
Great video! Very useful information.
Muchas gracias Misa! Tus videos son cada vez mejores.
この説明ありがとうございました。全部がわかるようになった‼️ 嬉しい 🤗. I think this has been by far the best Japanese class I had had. There were two main gramma points and they were perfectly explained. Also the way you explained how 受身形 works in those examples were perfect. I couldn’t understand these topics until now. Thank you so much!!
Another good lesson! どもありがとうございます😊!
I love your videos. It’s really at my pace and I learnt so much.

This is so helpful! Now I know why I keep seeing て form and みる and I no longer have to wonder what is happening! ありがとうございます

Wait... Misa, you know Russian?! Say "I love teaching" in Russian! ;D (Or I guess you could say "something" too... hahaha!)
You're amazing with all the languages you speak (Japanese - naturally, English AND Russian)!! Do you have any videos of you speaking or teaching Russian? I tried learning Russian years ago, but kind of gave it up when I got to busy
みさせんせい。All your videos are very helpful to me. it is easy to understand. youre the best..おしえてくれてどうもありがとうございます。
Thank you Misa.
こんにちはみさ先生。久しぶりです。Eres la mejor, You are the best, さいこう!😍😍😍
I'm pretty sure you noticed by now, but there is a typo at 27:33
I love this video BTW
It should have been "To pay" sorry!
@@JapaneseAmmowithMisa Typo at 12:18, too. 「断られた」のふり仮名は「わ」が抜けているようです。

Natsuki ftw
This was incredible and it will require much reviewing but as I repeated the examples I really thought I was speaking Japanese.
A very nice lesson!
(note: at min 28 払う is translated as 'to sit')
Hi Misa Sensei, you are the best teacher in the world! Can you make a lesson about sentences with "almost", please? ありがとうございます.
先生ミサありがとうございます
You're the best
ありがとうみら先生 : D
I already knew about this from anime, since I used to watch a lot of anime where the main character wasn't exactly the nicest person, I really had this line stuck in my head:
やってみろ
I decided to watch it anyway, because your explanations are insanely well done, since you go really deep into it and make it so clear at the same time, and I learn new words along with it often, thanks a lot. c:
二本の壊れてる腕でタイプしていますwwありがとうございます!
holy cow!!
00:08 〜てみる
19:09 〜ようとする
Great vid thank. Can you do a video on how to say but/ however not sure when to say kedo or demo for example
I think she has. But I'm pretty sure demo goes at the start of a sentence and Kedo goes at the end, or possibly before a comma?
You'd agree with Dr Johnson (the writer of the first dictionary), being quoted by his biographer Boswell in 1775 "It has been a common saying of physicians in England, that a cucumber should be well sliced, and dressed with pepper and vinegar, and then thrown out, as good for nothing."
Boswell: Journal of a Tour to the Hebrides
I love the way Misa-san shows that little smile when she is explaining something that could sound weird to us westerns. She's like "I know guys, it sounds funny/it doesn't make sense". Still, Misa is the only one japanese teacher on RUclips that doesn't sound arrogant at all when she's teaching her own language. She's so kind and motivates you to keep going.
Others japanese on RUclips are like: "EW! How dare you to speak MY Japanese like an asshole!"...I mean, I just leave the lesson crying.
今分かります。
temiru = tried (for the first time / though it didn't go well)
youtosuru = tried / attempted (but couldn't / Didn't)
ラーメンを作ってみた
ramen o tsukuttemita
I tried making ramen (you actually made the ramen)
ラーメンを作ろうとした
ramen o tsukuroutoshita
I tried making ramen (but couldn`t / didn't actually make it)
日本語を勉強しようとしたけど、難しすぎだった!
Dude! 34 minutes of lessons!!! This is incredible, thank you very much! It's helping me a lot!! But sorry, I can't watch all the video, but you're doing a great work, I'm sure that this is the most complete Japanese lessons in English in RUclips.
Good thing you uploaded today, みさ先生。 Have you heard about the new live action Pokémon movie? ピカチューはかはいくフワフワんだよ! すごいレソンをありがとう!
The furigana for 断was just koto, you forgot the "wa"(11:57). This was the first time I learn that kanji, so when I pause the video, I read it as "koto rareta", ha, ha.
I was about to ask about that, but then I remembered the famous line from Jojo, "だが、断る!" And that really cleared it up for me, haha
「ことわる!」is so common in anime :D
@@aaronseet2738 really? 聞いたことがない。
説明ありがとう!ロシア語話せたら、本当にすごいだよ!私はロシア人ですね!
If you hadn't heard yet there's a new Pikachu movie coming out
Great video! Quick question. In the sentence @24:49 it says mae wo arukareta. Since "walk" is intransitive in English, is there a special meaning for aruku as a transitive verb with the "o" particle?
Teşekkürler
16:39 this was hilarious 😂
Did anyone else notice she accidentally spliced this video with another video at the end?
ty for your videos! i looked and i didnt see any videos on the "kedo" or "but" particle. can you make one? i always see/hear "desu kedo" and apparently there are different ways of using "kedo"
Wow 4. But actually there are 2 more. Do you have video on, 試みるや図る? To try attempt 🤔. You explain it well.
19:18
There is also one more "try-grammar" in japanese - ようにする "to try change..."
For ex;
タバコを吸わないようにしている = I’m trying not to smoke.(I smoke before, so i try to change it).
btw. thx for lesson like always :)
Thank you very much for your excellent content, I have learnt a lot with you. 美佐先生の名前を漢字で書いてみる。:)
May I request that you list those videos that you had mentioned in this lesson. So that it is Good for us to watch again. Thank you.

Btw thank you very much for all the videos misa. One of the best if not the best RUclips channel ,thank you for helping me with my struggle with Japanese .ありがとうございます
Hi Misa. I'm Polish since you speak Russian any advice for Slavic language speakers for learning Japanese?
ありがとう!ミサ先生のチャネルが大好きですね
You can make a video teaching what are the best form to learn pronunciation? Arigatou misa.
あなたはナンバーワンです。
It was 7 minutes into the video before I realized there was no romajii on this one. I feel smart! lol
7:48 It will indeed
You are a great language teacher. You must have a very unique personality ,to be so patient. Ed moore
can you try for whole length videos of events and maybe how to move to japan in japanese?
Hi,what a cool video! I have question..sometimes I confused with "te" sentence like modote kite ii desuka? That meams can you come back or i'll be back? Looking forward for your answer.. thanks!
Means asking permission leave and come back.…
Thank you for this clear explanation. I have another question though- What about the normal present tense for "you to suru". You did a lot of "you to shita" in the past form and the meaning makes sense, but what does it mean if it's in present/future tense? Would "tabeyou to suru" mean that "I will try it, but might not succeed"? Is that the meaning? Thank you.
I came here because I heard the grammar be used in Naruto and didn't understand (during studying) what the ようとする meant. It was in the present tense as well. From the context, I guess it means to try and not succeed (when said to someone else in present tense).
The sentence was this: 「戦おうとするのは無意味だよ!」which the subtitles translated as "It's meaningless to fight!", which is why I assume this is the meaning.
Впервые услышал о том, что Миса сенсей говорит еще и на русском. Теперь вот действительно захотелось услышать твой русский :В
Greetings from Eindhoven.
if i do it like this 「聞いてみたい」
can this be translated as "I want to try asking a question" ? (but want to do it but have not done it yet and you want to try)
so you basically have to put the verb into the 〜て form.
漢字を書いてみた。
(i tried writing a kanji.)
漢字で名前を書いてみる。
(i will try writing the name in kanji.)
お箸を使ってた。
(i tried using chopsticks.)
頼む: 友達に頼んでみる。
(i will try asking my friend a favour.)
断る: to reject
12:15 I found a typo D= (断れる=ことわれる)
ありがとうございます
was trying to learn Japanese on the train today, but the app didn't really explain the form so I basically missed the point of it...
and now I'm watching this at 2 am (like 18 hours later) and it makes so much more sense
and of course there's a beautiful host explaining this and much more... and I'll definitely try drawing you and put it on Instagram :)
