Hello Dave, you do a very nice job with these videos. I own an 89 jeep myself, but I am legally blind, so I cannot see well enough to drive. I had a new motor put in the jeep about two years ago, so it runs like new. The jeep does need some cosmetic work in a little bit of things here and there. It had been my girlfriends jeep, her parents gave it to me after she passed away. I had always told her, I would keep it going for her, because they say in the jeep world, you never get rid of your first jeep. I have a lot of tools, and a lot of mechanical know how, just failing eyesight over the years is not limiting things I'm able to do. I enjoy watching your videos, because you're doing all the things I wish I could be doing myself. Keep up the good work. By the way, I have also always had an interest in locksmithing. One more thing, I am from New Jersey. I'm sorry you got such a rotten jeep for my state.
+Rick Gaine Rick - thanks for the message. Sadly I did get rid of my first Jeep , then second, third :) I admire you for taking care of the YJ in your girlfriends memory. Im also sorry about your vision - As I get older I realize more and more my limitations but never have had to face something that life changing. I certainly appreciate you watching my brother :)
Jeep sounds and looks great! Your hard work is paying off! I have nothing but respect for all the work you have put in, makes me want to keep turning wrenches on my old girl, thank you!
For years, I kicked the wire cluster with my left foot to fix the no bus, it worked when driving down the road and when it did not want to start. I believe the issue is a yellow wire that splits just above your left toe, never been able to confirm. Now its met a new issue, no gauge at all. I wonder if it has a full disconnection in the wire now.
Jeep, Just Empty Every Pocket. It seems like there is always something to take your money on them. I hope the big spending is done so you can get to the fun part of owning one. Mall hopping. Lol
I hear ya on the one step forward two steps back. After replacing my rear wheel bearing and fixing my drive shaft I forgot to latch up my luggage rack and driving down the street it swung open and smashed corner by the vent. Now I get to fix the fiberglass crap and repaint the top. I swear if its not one thing with these jeeps its another.
My 04 TJ from time to time will display the engine light and bus B8 error. Hopefully it’s just a faulty connection I need to clean up as stated since my vehicle operates normally. Only once it’s gauged and gas pedal failed to operate when it was on due to an engine oil pressure switch.
What do you do when jeep runs no issues and gauges work just have check engine light and airbag light on but get no code on scanner. Odometer says no bus but jeep is working fine???
hello my name is omar, I'm from Mexico, I have the same problem TJ 2001 4.0, could you recommend me where to buy the rebuilt computer like the one you show in your video
Hey Viviana - I first would check Ebay for a used one with the same model number then if you dont find it there start shopping around - Rock Auto - I bought this one from www.partsauthority.com but you may find a rebuilt one somewhere else cheaper. I would say before you buy another one you need to 100% make sure it is the computer. If a scanner "will not communicate" with the old computer AND it has power from the fuses and the ASD relay then it may be the computer. If a scanner communicates then I would check a few things first - the most common part to fail is the crank sensor which will shut the whole thing down also. Any questions feel free to contact me - theredneckgarage@gmail.com - David
Dave - Jeep Wrangler TJ -Year 2000 I have the No Bus Error and I have replaced the Main Computer and that did not solve the issue. It starts and runs with no issue except the No Bus Error. Since I have the No Bus error the gauges will not function. So no speedometer, No Fuel Gauge , No Battery Voltage Reading No RPM, etc. Here is the really odd thing. When I wash the Jeep and water is sprayed all around to wash it. Then when I start the Jeep after washing the gauges then DO WORK. So you mention checking all the sensors and unplugging them one by one to determine which sensor may be shorted or failing in some respect. What EXACT sensors should I unplug and what is the methodology I should use?
What exhaust system did you use on the build? Sorry for the random question but I need to replace the entire system on my Jeep and was looking for options.
Had the same issue on my 2000 Jeep Wrangler... "no bus" will Not run/crank, gauges do not work. Put new computer on and still have the same issue.. Computer is from AIDA Flagship One, No flash necessary. Can you help?
Hi on a zj 97 4.0 I have a intermittent problem I'm leaning towards immobiliser issues cause van won't start has power to coil for 1 sec and then is crank for up to 2 hours before it starts then runs fine till I switch of and need to start again.then Its cranks with no check engine light then check engine light there again then half of clusters works dim I've opened wiring changed sensors I have 5v ref but no 12 volt to coil but if I swing it's there for 1 sec then gone and not all the time.please advise
I am having the no bus error on my 2001 Jeep Cherokee. The vehicle runs fine and does not stall. I took the dash apart and cleaned the connectors and added dielectric grease and the same issue. Sent the cluster away yo be repaired and it came back non repairable. Next, picked up a used one from a salvage yard to see and it reads the same thing. So I am at a loss right now. Either stuck it with a bad used one or something else is going on and the original is still good. I bought this Jeep new so kinda hard just letting it go.
I have a 2006 and I have to clear the pcm ever 29 miles or my trans goes into limp mode. I had the trans rebuilt and the pcm harness checked. Im sure its the notorious 2006 pcm failure... Rebuilt pcm 1200$
Cool. So I know where I'm moving to when I want to rebuild my TJ. And it occasionally gets a no bus but I just smack the dash real hard and everything comes back to life.
my 1996 jeep cherokee alt is locked will that affect the spark we took the belt off and it will just crank and wont send power to the fuel pump or give spark or engine light
Hey Dave, any idea what would cause the charge to go off in a passenger seat belt and lock seat belt for absolutely no reason. This is followed by a "no bus" on the dash. For ref, batt was dead, replaced batt with new, on test drive a loud boom on pass side and seat belt locked. all followed by no bus but thing still runs and drives fine besides dash lights everywhere. Only other issue is when turn it off, it still runs with key out and ignition off. Im stumped. Thanks
So with just about everything on this jeep new the bill must be ridiculous at this point. Would it have been cheaper to just buy a running jeep in good shape? Obviously getting to build the jeep is the fun part but does it make sense financially?
I would've checked all the pins on the computer first. Nine times out of 10, it's a bent or corroded pin(s), hence the intermittent n0 bu5. I don't recommend buying a new computer unless you fully check the pins/grounds first.
After watching this video it appeared a new ECM was exactly what I needed. I ordered one with my VIN. It cut out on my the first trip. Looked like I might have a bad fuel pump. Now I’m getting the no bus on the Odom again. Any suggestions?
my friend john is going to junk or sell his 2 jeeps 2 for 1 sale.. because he has never had a jeep that has had more go wrong with it.. nothing but problems now its a no bus code and he cant fix it.. and pay to reflash it..
Instead of "no bus" the gauge cluster should read "take bus"

Thanks so much Peter I appreciate that !

Jeep motto: JUST ONE MORE THING!!! LOL Getting closer. Can't wait to see it going down the road.
I know Ben it never ends :)
JEEP. Just Empty Every Pocket
Plenty of bumps in the road for sure but it's getting there. Good thing you picked up that new scan tool!
+Velvethamma yeah It was sweet having the tool altho paying for it was not as fun hahaha
Love it. Been with you all through the build. Hate to see it end...
+sewerrat47 Thanks so much - with a Jeep it never really 'ends" just put off till later :)
Jeep, Just Empty Every Pocket. It seems like there is always something to take your money on them. I hope the big spending is done so you can get to the fun part of owning one. Mall hopping. Lol
speed limit 15 near the food court .... hahaha
I have this same issue. Its driving me crazy. I dont know where to start. No bus everytime i hit a bump.
Wish you were in knoxville tn lol
That was a good diagnostic. How are you enjoying your scope? In this case it was a good tool to have around.
+wyattoneable I like it - I will be doing a video soon on it :)

+frank c Dang Frank that is a pain in the ..... I agree - good luck on the repair !!!!
I have.the same issue with my 99 TJ where did you get the new compute from
What type of scanner did you use for the flashing?
?????

Excellent troubleshooting video!
+TrailRecon Thanks Recon!
Good call Dave, I'm just getting caught up, spent the weekend at my cottage were we had to dig our way thru 2 feet of snow to get In. HaHa
Hi... I got a question.. Why you program the new vin number? It wont start the engine with out the new vin number??
What do you do when jeep runs no issues and gauges work just have check engine light and airbag light on but get no code on scanner. Odometer says no bus but jeep is working fine???

Oh I also cleaned contacts on the cluster itself using Isopropyl Alcohol on every contact of the cluster and the connector where it plugs in.
Tps, cps would be good sensors to start with.
What scanner do you use. Jeep grand cherokee starts but idles rough.
For a second there you had me thinking: exorcism. Happy it was just a bad part and no demonic possession (I hate when that happens).
+Mike Hartmann I had a priest on speed dial if it didn't start - hahahaha
What exhaust system did you use on the build? Sorry for the random question but I need to replace the entire system on my Jeep and was looking for options.
+lanpartypro r.ebay.com/ZHhBs6 - they sell most systems for Wranglers depending on year :)
its alive and sounds good right on buddy im happy for ya

I’m haveing the same issue after an engine swap but my check engine light won’t light up either
Awesome video thanks for all the great info.

You kinda just blew right past the "check sensors" part. If you're suggesting that first, then maybe explain how to do that.
Everything looking up no rain shun shinning green leaves on trees and fire under the hood 👍🏻
lol finally :)
why do you have a 4.0 computer ? did you consider a engine swap at one time ?
nope I had a 4.0 a while back I sold and had a spare computer
+Bullshitkorner hush yo mouth boy ... hahaha the 2017 is supposed to be nice with better fuel economy. A TJ with a 350 Chevy would be pretty sweet
i'd consider getting all the parts for a manual swap and put in a TDi motor
Thought you wanted something better than a 2.5 ?? hahaha
You the MAN! You diagnostic guru dude
+Dave Nevotti Thanks Dave !
what if it runs but has a dead cluster and my scanner is not reading anything at obd port
I have a 2006 and I have to clear the pcm ever 29 miles or my trans goes into limp mode. I had the trans rebuilt and the pcm harness checked. Im sure its the notorious 2006 pcm failure... Rebuilt pcm 1200$
What scanner use Maxi sys model? Thanks you
Cool. So I know where I'm moving to when I want to rebuild my TJ. And it occasionally gets a no bus but I just smack the dash real hard and everything comes back to life.
+jtip82 hahahaha yeah thats ibn the factory manual " smack dash til gauges work" LOL

Oh it's 2004 Jeep Liberty 3.7
So with just about everything on this jeep new the bill must be ridiculous at this point. Would it have been cheaper to just buy a running jeep in good shape? Obviously getting to build the jeep is the fun part but does it make sense financially?
+Joshua Poche Good question. I know I have less in it as far as cash spent than what it blue books for. The labor is another thing ..... hahaha
Reader's Digest version answer: Yes, for the most part, it makes sense, so long as you are doing the work yourself.
thats awesome thanks. love your videos keep them coming.
Thank You Joshua !!!
I would've checked all the pins on the computer first. Nine times out of 10, it's a bent or corroded pin(s), hence the intermittent n0 bu5. I don't recommend buying a new computer unless you fully check the pins/grounds first.
A Jeep with sub par electrical? You're a first... this week... for a TJ haha
Making great progress though! Most thorough Jeep rebuild i've heard or seen! keep up the great work!
+James Herkenhoff Thanks James !!!!

Did you get it fixed?
Hi, I have a question can you tell me if the ECU of a jeep wrangler
1998 MT is compatible with that of a 1997 same engine?
Most of the time - 97 and 98 are interchangeable as long as they have the same factory specs- engine - trans - ect
sweet!!!! can't wait to see it roll!!
soon , very soon lol
I wonder if it is the gauge cluster. The jeep dealer said it was the cluster or the pcm.
Sorry just saw your message - if the Jeep starts and it says No Bus then it is either a connection at the cluster or a bad cluster itself usually. :)
IT ended up being the cluster not the connection. The dealer would have charged me $1500, I called and asked. I did it for $150
good job thats awesome !
I have 98 jeep Cherokee showing no bus on computer and have no gauges or power going to radio
Mine says NO BUS but starts fine. Was is wrong with it. We put diaelectric grease between the connection but that did not fix it this time.
Sorry just saw your message - did you get it fixed ?
my friend john is going to junk or sell his 2 jeeps 2 for 1 sale.. because he has never had a jeep that has had more go wrong with it.. nothing but problems now its a no bus code and he cant fix it.. and pay to reflash it..
Hey you know what the ecu and the code of a 1997 jeep wrangler tj sport 4.0 ?, need buy one on ebay and I have stolen. Thank
Bastian Ignacio Carrero Araya depends on automatic or manual. there are 4 different ones for that year.
Thank you for answering is manual
??
There are a few different ones - Cardone 79-1312 should work. Like this one - amzn.to/2fCtchD
Thank you are fantastic!
What type of scanner is that?
amzn.to/2jsWAYP
Victory!
+OhYeahAboutThat whoo hoo !!! YEs 95% of the time when a shop tells you it needs a computer it is the crank sensor but this time I was correct :)
my 2001 xj is doing the same thing
I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!!!
The light needs to get much brighter bird hahaha
cool vid
+The88katana600 Thanks Katana !
thank you very helpful
Nice nice
+anDWandy Thanks - Thanks ! LOL
