Yeah, my Crosstrek's plastic bumpers seem pretty vulnerable compared to my YJ's steel bumpers. The Crosstrek also has a similar advantage to many other offroadable vehicles, like the Wranglers and XJs have... aftermarket traction diffs are available.
That Suby looks awesome with the aggressive tires. I have a soft spot for Subaru, to the point that I convinced my two teen sons to split on a 15 Forrester. It’s been good other than x-mode isn’t as good in snow as expected. Myself I bought a bronco sport badlands but still feel Subaru is a good vehicle. Love seeing them doing this stuff when other channels show how they ‘can’t’
I've owned both a '99 Cherokee Sport and a '16 Crosstrek. The in line 6 and the dual range 4X4 of the Cherokee can't be beat. However, the Subaru is a superior vehicle.
Tbh don’t remember the tire specs might have said something on another comment but I just did a muffler delete went to my local exhaust guy and welded on on a new tip
My wife owns a 2005 Jeep and I'm getting a 2022 Crosstrek Limited so of course I loved this video! Very fun watching and I'm looking forward to checking out more of your content. Keep up the great work!
Its actually just a muffler delete with a tip welded on. Any of your local shops will do it for you. Costed me $100 And I never bought a spare tire just the same one that came with the car. I just had insurance on my own tires
@@crustyoverlanding I have a '17 Crosstrek similarly kitted out with A/T tires. I have a roof basket up top similar to yours and I carry a full-sized spare up there. I use the donut spare compartment for tools. I live in Nevada and all our trails are super rocky, so a full-sized spare is a must-have in my opinion. If you get a flat 200 miles out in the boonies that donut will do fuck all for you.

Yeah I was blown away at that too! I was on the mountain with 3 Cherokees and they obviously beat me at rock crawling and missing but in the snow they got stuck and I just kept of going
@@crustyoverlanding daaamn. Would've be a good opportunity for the community tho. Clearing trails n making path. Im pretty sure 4x4 guys would love that.
I have a cross trek - the jeep has way more clearance, and you put much bigger tires that standard on your subi. This just shows you can drive the subi on some regular forest roads - as we well know.
Obviously a Crosstrek cant do hardcore rock crawling, but there is advantage to driving one. You get 8.7 inches of ground clearance and an incredible AWD system, while still maintaining 30mpg if your running it stock. You can drive a crosstrek on rutted out, rocky, and slippery roads without worrying about getting stuck. This car is not a jeep, but it is a practical daily driver with most of the capabilities of a jeep.
I have 235/75/15 BFG Mud terrains the KM3’s Had to cut the fenders to be able to fit but after some adjustments worked perfect. And running the black rhino rumbles in bronze. You can check out my Instagram @crusty_overlanding
@@crustyoverlanding It gives you more noticeable body roll cornering on the street but you have way more flex offroad. More contact for less daily driver handling. It's a trade off 🤷♂️
Yessir! 2 inch block lift and bigger tires. Wish I could go bigger but 235/75/15 were the biggest tire I could fit and I had to cut my fenders with that size

Yeah! So I was running a 2 inch spacer black lift with 235/75/15 with KM3 mud terrain tires and black rhino rumble wheels I had to take an angle grinder to cut small parts that’s were rubbing but it’s like excess stuff that you don’t need and you can make it look very flush. Dang. I think that Jeep was featured in Goonies. Amazing what all terrain tires and 30 years of technological advancements in electronic traction control can do for an oversized Camry.
Yeah definitely felt new but I bought it salvage title and the front bumper was aftermarket so didn’t cost much. I was definitely worried about everything behind the front bumper since it was oem but definitely has a real excitement and pain when you off-road something this new
I had ordered a 2020 crosstrek with a 6 speed until the horrible dealership pissed me off to the point where I ended up walking away from the deal. Ended up finding a 2004 wrangler instead with 50,000km which I bought in cash, absolutely no regrets. Still like the crosstrek but, damn do I hate the new car buying experience lol
The next trail I hit ended up burning the clutch real bad and had to install an aftermarket clutch haha. Me and a buddy ended up doing a clutch swap in 10 hours 😅
It has a very long front end like the wrx. That's probably on of the reasons why Subaru has 5star plus safety rating in it's class. Tesla's take more damage in small overlap crash test. Moderate risk of lower foot injury in Tesla model 3 and model S. No risk of foot injury in subaru. The wide motor probably also absorbers energy in a crash.
Geez… those Subaru crosstrek’s are improperly named. It’s such an anemic engine… it’s incredibly underpowered and slow. U can barely take it off-reading. The only saving grace are the eyes.
I owned a Jeep just like that. This is a testament to how good Subaru’s are
Subaru just needs off-road bumpers and it’s perfect
Yeah approach angle needs to be better
We need more horsepower….the Subaru turbo Diesel engine which they sell outside of America would be perfect.

Nice job Subaru with Lift your good, but yeah you tore that Subaru up good
I love it there, it's only like 25min from my house. Sucks that it's closed down due to the fires, cant wait for summer to be over lol
Yeah we managed to get in right before the fires!
Haha nice!! I love the flats, good playgrounds
Love the subtreks cool little cars
The wet forests and mud reminds me of Michigan. Looks like a lot of fun!
Yeah sadly this all burnt down a few weeks ago but plenty of other places to go
Crusty Trek sorry to hear that!
Exactly what I was looking for, great video!
Do you have enough space for the spare tire or is it the regular spare tire? And what muffler does the Subie have? It sounds amazing.

Ahh reminds me of a daily drive in upstate NY. I think the trail is a bit smoother though lmao.
Is that stock suspension on the crosstrek? And damn that exhaust not is pretty solid!
Yeah stock suspension just have lift block spacers 2 inch. Yeah the exhaust is just a muffler delete but I love how it sounds!
just bought a 21 crosstrek. would love to get out and do this.. but i’d hate to do that to my bumper!
Yeah I went a bit extreme haha
Then get a jeep!!
What work has been done under the hood to the cross trek? Or is it just a good exhaust? 👍
Just a muffler delete! I wouldn’t touch the engine cause Subarus are known to blow as soon as you start messing with them
Subaru was like......did that opening move just to trick you.
Yep bring that subi out in the desert with me! Good luck softroaders!!
I’ll bring the new rig out 😉 almost got it mechanically ready
Ok i know some cool shit to go fuck around on!🇺🇸🎇🎆🎊🎉🐒
Are lower gears available for crosstrek? I imagine the engine laboring when pulling through the soft stuff when equipped with the bigger tires
Yeah but it’s probably real expensive cause it would have to be custom
those tires look good on the crosstrek! what brand and size are they?
235/75/15 had to cut fenders a bit and tiny little but off the front bumper
Awesome video. In the market for a Crosstrek myself. What year is this one if you don't mind me asking?

Yeah the AWD by Subaru is amazing
What's your camera setup for this? Are you carrying around a gimbal? Looks really nice
Thanks! Actually it’s just a GoPro hero 8!

also, awesome edit
In very steep ascents the Sub is gutless due to lack of low range.

New Subaru vs old Jeep?
Yeah the new Isuzu rig will be a good test vs the jeep
Take those swaybars off! Lol

I have a custom muffler delete. Basically cut the muffler off out a straight pipe and a tip!

What kind of wheels on subaru?
I had the black rhino rumble wheels in bronze. Love love these wheels
The Subaru lost half of it's front bumper tho🤦🏻♂️

That trek would benefit more without that bumper. A 2-3in lift and a diff lock.
