- 02/26/2022 - Fun little offroad trip with some of the boys at La Dee Flats OHV in Estacada, Oregon, took my 2" lifted 2020 Crosstrek with Bfgoodrich ko2's out there, friends had a Honda CRV and Toyota Tacoma, all the cars did pretty well, but it wasn't too technical on the trails we took.

They need turbos. I would have bought one if they came with a turbo option.

Its the people that tune theirs to like 400hp whos turbos go boom prematurely. Them, and people who dont change their oil on time.

Just bought a new 24 Crosstrek Wilderness…can’t wait to get in some snow come winter. They are great little cars.
WOW! Considering that it would not be considered in the class of a 4runner or a Jeep this is pretty damn impressive. The Honda did pretty well also.

There's just something about the Crosstrek. Been intrigued about this car for some time. This footage only adds to the allure. I think they still offer a manual transmission too which makes them even more appealing. Is the Crosstrek in this footage manual transmission? Curious, do they offer a manual transmission paired with AWD? Seems like so many AWD vehicles don't come with a manual option.
@Machu Pichu mine was an automatic, and yes all crosstreks are awd even manual ones

A lot of modern softroaders and offroaders really need high-clearance steel bumpers.
That Gen2 CRV is fairly impressive itself... especially for ~20 yo rig.

Subaru Symmeteric AWD is basically superior to anything out that is not highly aftermarket redone in a garage lab. I have a forester and getting it stuck is almost impossible except for tye worst mud

Yes.
@@Elvis_Kunda how so? thought that without airing-down, that would've slightly increased the ground clearance a lil bit especially for that crosstrek. And i only air down when maintaining a higher speed for overlanding on bumpy trails(shock-absorbing), or maneuvering around extreme terrains(extra tractions).
I've done La Dee's main roads in an Outback XT. No airing down. I will air down on the big chunky jagged rocks and I run Geolandar AT G015 on stock wheels.

I feel the front bumper shudnt hav hung so low on the Subie... It definitely shud of been higher so ya cud tackle more difficult terrain without having to worry about the bumper hitting or scratchin

@DaFireman33 it's not designed to be an off roader. Do you think others in this segment would fare better? Like hrv, corolla cross, cx-30 etc....
@@steve8803 true its not a true off roader regardless it has capabilities to handle the more challenging roads... I mean ppl still take it for off roading and it performs well enough frm what I see... ya wont expect it to climb rocks ofcourse...
I’ve actually seen some people do a mod to the Crosstrek where they cut off a portion of the front where the bumper usually gets hit

Not many brand new vehicles in its price range that can do that even some full size suv's and trucks couldn't get that kind of traction...its practically a beefy car

No issues at all. Honestly doesn't feel too much like a cvt

Just lift and tires, no lockers. Subaru's symmetrical awd system work really well with even 2 wheels off the ground

How much do the bigger tires effect your MPGs?
My combined average was about 17-19 with the roof rack
I'm more impressed with the CRV...seems to have done better than the crosstrek
It's about momentum also. Crv guy doesn't care anymore because it's a old vehicle but crosstrek guy a little afraid to damage his vehicle.
Fantasy thinking
Here a quick tip for y’all. The obstacles at the trailhead are called “filters”, and they are there to keep vehicles that shouldn’t be on those trails out. When you have to modify the filters to enter you are putting you, your vehicle, and the other people trying to enjoy the trail at risk. I was in the white Xterra at the beginning of your video, and at one point on 800 trail was stuck behind you guys, while the Subaru was trying to jockey between trails, and was being pushed beyond its ability. I’m glad that you only suffered a little bit of body damage to the front end, but you should have not been on that trail. Not trying to bash y’all, just passing along a little education of OHV areas. ✌🏻
I thought those were called "rocks". Don't remember modifying any filters but anyone going offroading takes the risk of damaging their vehicle. And I didn't see any signs saying that I can't take my subaru there
Chill……they got through it no harm done. Always good to share the trails and let people experience what their SUVs are capable of. They should be on that trail and more to come….happy trails y’all
what gas mileage did you get on average with these mods?
About 18mpg average
I get the same average from an outback XT lol

Relation race wheels rr4s, they're discontinued though
As you can see, open diffs absolutely suck for offroad. Open diffs send power to the wheels with the least resistance/traction. Hence why the wheels that are in the air receive power rather than the ones planted on the ground. This is where that rear Torq locker comes into play for a more serious offroad experience. This is coming from the person that use to offroad their Crosstrek, so believe me, I know the sorta struggle!
True true, but it shows how well subaru's awd system works, you can see that the wheel in the air spins but then gets locked up by the brakes, sending more power to the wheels that have more traction. Obviously no comparison to locked, but it does works really good

How much ground clearance did the crv have? The crosstrek looks small despite the lift
The crv has a 3" lift installed and the crosstrek only has 2" lift. I'm pretty sure the approach angle is worse on the crosstrek as well. Both did pretty good though

If Subaru think they have a capable off roader just by jacking up the suspension of a hatchback they are kidding themselves. Just look at the huge overhang on the front of the Crosstrek, it will just rip off at the first serious obstacle.
