We’ve all pushed the limits of our vehicles. I could see it coming. But, the lessons we learn, are seldom forgotten. And truth be told, our adventures, and their memories, are generally brought into right perspective, as the best times of our lives! I own a Jeep Wrangler… and in soft sand, anyone would have been screwed. I would have buried it. I really like the Crosstrek. It’s capabilities are enough for me. And, given it’s fuel economy, style, and quality, it’s a great little SUV!
Was the traction control turned on or off when you were trying to get unstuck? I would probably turn it off in that situation if you have that option on that vehicle.
Great video! I found a 2024 with 14k miles I'm buying which I'll upgrade with all the hardware you're using including the complete suspension kit with radius arms and underbody protection. I have a 2022 Power Wagon with 37's, all King Carli Pintop suspension, GoFastKampers setup, built in ARB dual air compressor, 15k winch, locking front and rear axles, disconnecting sway bar, the whole works. I'll get the locking rear axle kit did you? I wouldn't go out in the sand without it., that's for sure. I will get a winch but I have zero idea how to make that work. Anyway, keep at it, I'm following your lead for the most part Wade.
Lol the dogs face in the windshield is crazy funny .. the look on its face is like “Hey.. you’re out there recording you do realize we’re stuck right ..??” 😅😅 But this was a great video and for the first time I see that I should really carry 4 recovery boards instead of 2.. 🤔

Love your videos, very cool. Always enjoy the adventures. I like how you take the same route a couple different times to get different camera angles. Thanks for sharing your experiences with the world. Subaru should sponsor you.
Now that's having fun. I test drove a sport and bought the manual tranny 2022. I like having full control of gearing and would love to see how the full time 50/50 front back traction would have handled the same sand dune. What do you think?
I really noticed a huge difference in sand when I switched from my 2010 Tacoma to my 2020 Power Wagon, due to the weight. Tacoma was 6000 pounds loaded with gear and my Power Wagon is 8000 pounds mildly loaded, same tire size. I used to float all over the dunes and now I tend to sink. Recovery boards might be in my future, but that was a tricky spot. Love the pup! My dogs love the sand.
Recovery boards are a must if you ask me, but yeah, that was just a tricky spot. I spent 1.5hrs trying to get myself unstuck, and about the same amount of time trying to flag someone down, lol! Being stuck in between the dunes like that, no one could see me, ha!
@mesomemore97 Well the main thing is knowing how the Subaru AWD system works and how to avoid situations like this one. I should have backed up instead up taking the sharp left, but I didn't want to rip off my new mud flaps, lol. Because all of the cars weight was on the front driver side tire and the other 3 tires were essentially free spinning, there was no way for that one tire to gain enough traction to pull itself out. In the end it took just a little yank from a side by side to get that front tire out of the hole and I was fine. If I had my winch at the time I could have self recovered no problem. This was 100% driver error and hitting the limits of the AWD system.
I think I’ll live vicariously through your videos and not do any of these mods to my trek so I don’t go and try and get myself stuck somewhere. My 18 limited is my daily at around 25k a year in driving. I don’t want to add winching to that mix lol. Great vid thank you

None yet, but I want to put in a torq locker. I'm lifted 1.5", but I'm about to upgrade to 2" RalliTek top hat spacers, 1" RalliTek lift springs, and Bilstein struts.
@@TheAdventureZombie same as mine, just got myself an outdoor edition 3 weeks ago, what do you think about the power it gives off road ? By the way, I'm asking you because I like your channel a lot.
@@stephsoulard2718 the power is fine, but it really needs a center diff lock or rear locker to really do well off road. I'm talking Jeep stuff, not like service roads.
@@TheAdventureZombie thanks for the info, I know I'm not behind de wheel, but from my point of view, seems its under powered sometimes, Even with the 2.5. maybe it's just me or maybe the setup of lift and tire size.
Oh yeah, got to air down or you can't go anywhere out there, lol! I was at 15psi, but I could have dropped to 10, I just didn't think it would help much in that scenario. I tried traction control off, x-mode 1 and 2, as well as trying different gears in manual mode. I just had too much weight on one side of the vehicle in the soft sand to get the AWD to function properly. If I had a torqlocker I'd have had zero issues.
Yeah, that would not have helped in this situation. I was in fluffy sand at over a 35deg angle. All of the cars weight was in the drivers tire, so it just wouldn't allow the AWD system to function properly. A locker would have made this no issue.
I like your videos. I go to the same areas. Its cool to see it from a different perspective. If you get the chance check out sparrow Park road. You can drive on the beach its just north of Reedsport
its not wise to ride alone in the dunes ;) how's your front bumper? the xv have a really bad approach angle, i took a lot of hits in the steep dunes. the problem with AWD cars is that they cant lock the center diff so its a problem when you get bogged. i noticed when i got bogged once, i keep the TCS on and gave slow rev's until i managed to roll out. And then i switched to suzuki and never got bogged again :P
I’m getting a 2018 used Subaru Crosstrek with the limited trim soon. Sucks used ones cost almost as much as new ones nowadays due to the shortage in microchips but the new ones are just over my budget and I need a car now to get to my job I’m starting soon. Being a New Englander where we get a lot of snow and someone who likes to go camping I think it will be a good car to get. Do you know if there are any major differences between the 2018 and 2021 model?
The 2.5l is so much nicer than the 2.0 liter, especially the earlier versions. The extra power really comes through even though it's just slightly larger. They worked wonders with the torque and acceleration through gearing and CVT programming. It's an impressive machine compared to my old 2014 Crosstrek Premium. The X-Mode 2 really helps in a lot of different scenarios, but as far as what those things are worth in dollars, who knows, I will say it's nice to have them though.
@@TheAdventureZombie well fml. I have less than 20K in my bank account and still no job offers. I’m taking a 10K loan just to buy this car. No one has given me a callback. Hope it’s worth it still. I feel like an idiot. Maybe it will still have good trade-in value.
LOL! OMG man! That shit's no joke! You were stuuu-uuuuck! I was laughing my ass off watching you dig yourself deeper after the 1st recovery board win. Did pretty much everything I would have thought to do though, except have Wade assist with the digging :). 1:51 - great shot...I dug the framing of the shot. Ram mount came out great too! How was your tranny temps running thru that sand? I imagine the CVT was working pretty hard throughout. Anyway, great vid bro! The t-shirt ended up being quite appropriate for the situation LOL.
Yeah, I wish I had been watching my previous shots, I would have handled the situation much better. Lesson learned big time, lol. I was in between the dunes too, so no one could see I was stuck, or even that there was a car there. I spent 1.5hrs digging myself deeper, and another 1.5hrs trying to get help flagged down, lol! Thanks man! I loved that small rig clamp as well as the ram mount setup (thanks for that). The dash cam shots were a little shaky with the arm I chose, but not bad overall. I got up to 207 was the highest I saw, which isn't bad. I feel like the cooling system they have in these is really efficient. More so than I thought. Thank you again :) And I agree, it turned out to be very fitting, lol!
@@TheAdventureZombie hxs. i want to take my outback in the sand but worry about getting stuck. Maybe in winter when sand is wetter, it would be ok. I only have Falken wildpeak at’s, not as aggressive as your KO’s.
@@TheAdventureZombie I didn’t know what to call them. Was coming back here to update that I found them incase anyone else was interested and saw you already posted lol. Really loving my 2021 Crosstrek Sport. About to mount some lights onto the roof basket. Keep the videos coming ma dude!
I just purchased a 2021 Crosstrek but I live in Canada. This model has halogen headlights I would like to switch to LED or HID headlights. Is this possible and how?
Yes, it's totally possible. You can either swap to an aftermarket lamp assembly with LEDs, or get some LED replacement bulbs for it. There are a lot of companies out there that make them, you just have to figure out what your equivalent bulb size is, and swap it out. It's doable, and relatively cheap, depending on the brand you choose.
@@TheAdventureZombie Wait, I've been checking prices for upgrading to LED headlights (on a '21 Sport), and it looks like it'd be around $1500 to swap those out. Do you know of any cheaper ones that work on the '21?
I honestly don't know. I've never researched it myself, I was just commenting from what I've heard others say. I don't care for the LED/HID headlights, mainly because I don't like being blinded by them, so I don't want to do that to someone else. Even if they are aimed properly, the color of the light just destroys people's night vision. So yeah, not for me. I did however get a bunch of LED auxiliary lights that I run off of a switch panel for off road/poor weather use.
Sure! Like any vehicle, you want to air down. 10-15psi probably. I was running 15 in the video, but 10 probably would have been better. Make sure your traction control is off. When you stop and shut the car off, turn traction control back off when you start moving again. Your going to slip around in sand, so having that turned on is just preventing you from driving it like it should be, and it robs your power. Steer clear off the soft stuff, and anything where you'd be going down and immediately back up. You'll get stuck in the bottom. I'm talking something that's like as wide as the car is long, if you have room to get speed again, your better off. Other than that, have fun!
It has X-Mode 1&2 but that's only like kind of I diff lock. But no traditional style. For that I need to get a Torq Locker, and I believe no one makes one for the '21s just yet.
@@krecikowi No problem! And yes I do, now more than ever with the new suspension! Here's a video of what we did. ruclips.net/video/iP5ptR5_fmo/видео.html
I aired down to 15, but I probably could have gone down to 10 to be fair. The issue here is the weight being all on one side of the car like that, it wasn't allowing the AWD system to function properly. But I'm thinking torq lockers in the near future :)
@@TheAdventureZombie id say lower but without bead locks the tire just pop off. There is an aftermarket LSD for the rear. Normally for the wrx but I'm sure a good import trans shop coul adapt a locker for the newer cvts.that be nice.
The torq locker for the Crosstreks would be all I'd need. It basically turns the AWD into more of a true 4wd. That way when you lose traction with a tire, it keeps spinning instead of stopping to divert power.
ok 3 things its beautiful there, second your crazyyyyyy, 3rd does that engine ever have problems, issues or anything after the abuse you give it. Man I woulda been having panic stuck like that with no one around did I say your crazy lol
Lmao! It's very beautiful out there, thank you (😜), and as of now, I've had zero issues mechanically with the car. I am hard on it, but I don't do anything too excessive as far as abusing it. I bought this car to do this with, so I'm having fun, but I'm also being very careful not to break anything major. Plastics are a different story, I've ripped my bumper off a couple times now, ha! In a situation like this, you don't panic, and then you use the recovery equipment you have and do your best to get unstuck. Sometimes, like in this situation, you have to flag someone down. I was trying to get unstuck for about 1.5hrs, and then spent another 1.5hrs trying to secure some sort of help. That, and I'm I'm always prepared to sleep wherever I end up, just in case, lol!
Wow really trying to do what stock (Maserati made) jeeps can do but with a CVT (no gears) AWD (no 4x4) and you can’t take the doors or top off. It’s just a boring gutless soccer mom car that was advertised as adventurous to get people like u to buy it. I don’t mean to be rude but life’s too short to drive a boring Subie
I have done trail 6 with my Subi. I know there are a lot of haters out there, but I'm not looking to do stuff like rock crawling, or mud bogging. I got this for an adventure rig, and it fits my lifestyle perfectly. I'm glad your happy with your Wrangler though.

Where'd you get the dune flag set up? Maybe turnoff traction control or remove the fuse so AWD produces 50/50. Then the front will still spin.
Luckily mine isn't built for straight lines ;)
Any mods on the 4WD system, lift kit or just rims and tires?
None yet, but I want to put in a torq locker. I'm lifted 1.5", but I'm about to upgrade to 2" RalliTek top hat spacers, 1" RalliTek lift springs, and Bilstein struts.
Is your Subaru lifted or can you run those tires on a stock Subaru Crosstrek. Size tires and brand are those thank you👍
I am lifted, but they might fit under a Gen 2 Crosstrek, but not a Gen 1. Info is in the description :)
Manual or Auto?
Got a quick question, I know it's a 2021 Crosstrek but which engine you have?
It's a Sport so it was the 2.5
@@TheAdventureZombie same as mine, just got myself an outdoor edition 3 weeks ago, what do you think about the power it gives off road ? By the way, I'm asking you because I like your channel a lot.
@@stephsoulard2718 the power is fine, but it really needs a center diff lock or rear locker to really do well off road. I'm talking Jeep stuff, not like service roads.
@@TheAdventureZombie thanks for the info, I know I'm not behind de wheel, but from my point of view, seems its under powered sometimes, Even with the 2.5. maybe it's just me or maybe the setup of lift and tire size.
Hard to say.
Hello from tigard Oregon
Awesome :) Hello back
I would like to know if you aired down the tires? Did you use X-mode when stuck?
Oh yeah, got to air down or you can't go anywhere out there, lol! I was at 15psi, but I could have dropped to 10, I just didn't think it would help much in that scenario. I tried traction control off, x-mode 1 and 2, as well as trying different gears in manual mode. I just had too much weight on one side of the vehicle in the soft sand to get the AWD to function properly. If I had a torqlocker I'd have had zero issues.
@@TheAdventureZombie Thx for the answer!
No problem :)
Did you use x mode at all???
Yeah, that would not have helped in this situation. I was in fluffy sand at over a 35deg angle. All of the cars weight was in the drivers tire, so it just wouldn't allow the AWD system to function properly. A locker would have made this no issue.
what is size tires? your tires look good
Info in the description for all parts :)
I like your videos. I go to the same areas. Its cool to see it from a different perspective. If you get the chance check out sparrow Park road. You can drive on the beach its just north of Reedsport
That's awesome, I'll look it up :)
What model is your crosstrek?
2.5l sport
its not wise to ride alone in the dunes ;)
how's your front bumper? the xv have a really bad approach angle, i took a lot of hits in the steep dunes.
the problem with AWD cars is that they cant lock the center diff so its a problem when you get bogged.
i noticed when i got bogged once, i keep the TCS on and gave slow rev's until i managed to roll out.
And then i switched to suzuki and never got bogged again :P
Yeah, this is a problem of the past for me, lol
@@TheAdventureZombie BTW Nice ride and nice Dunes, loved it :D
@@eyco Thanks! It was a fun trip :)
Only big one is probably the addition of the 2.5l, and X-Mode 2. Other than that, I'd say not much.
@@TheAdventureZombie nice. How much USD would you say that feature is worth?
@@TheAdventureZombie thx for the responses btw
This is a 2.0 correct?
This is the 2.5l, it's a '21 Sport
At what psi were you at?
I was running 15psi that day, but I could have done 10psi I'm sure.
What happened to the crosstrek???
I had to upgrade to something a bit bigger unfortunately. I totally miss it though.
@@TheAdventureZombie gotcha thanks!
LOL!
Looks like better to have the mud flap connected with joint like 2-3 pcs.
It's better to just not have mud flaps at all while driving off road, period lol
How’d you attach the fiberglass whip w the flag to your car?
These suction cups from a company called Sticky Whips, it worked pretty well :)
@@TheAdventureZombie hxs. i want to take my outback in the sand but worry about getting stuck. Maybe in winter when sand is wetter, it would be ok. I only have Falken wildpeak at’s, not as aggressive as your KO’s.
It's fun :)
Before I watch I will state wet sand good, dry sand bad!
Where can I get that flag you got on your car!?
Sticky Whips :)
Thanks! Glad you got it figured out :)
The traction boards let you down, not enough grip on them. Some maxtrax xtremes would of got you out easy 👍 good video though
Truth, but I can't justify spending $500+ on them, haha!
Yeah neither yet, I got the MK2 and they work amazing replaced one side with metal teeth from @kaon about 60$ for 16 teeth
I thought about doing that. Sanding my plastic teeth down and adding the metal ones. But we'll see.
What advice would you have for driving on the sand with the crosstrek for someones who's never done it before?
@@TheAdventureZombie thanks man I enjoy your content.
Np, and thank you!
why don't use x mode
Wade красава) Умный в гору не пойдет. Умный гору обойдет)) Well done!
He is adorable :) Did you watch to the end to see him in the sand? Sorry if you already commented that :P

Doesn't this car have differential lock...
It has X-Mode 1&2 but that's only like kind of I diff lock. But no traditional style. For that I need to get a Torq Locker, and I believe no one makes one for the '21s just yet.
@@TheAdventureZombie i see, im thinking of getting 2018 or newer. Thank you for the answer. Do you like it still?
@@krecikowi No problem! And yes I do, now more than ever with the new suspension! Here's a video of what we did.

@@krecikowi Yes I do, I wish it didn't have so much electronics hardwired into the car, though. For my usage analog really serves the purpose better.
Super nice video & already subscribe u...
Thank you! I really appreciate the feedback, and the sub :)
Air down. 10psi.
I've found bald ATs @12psi work best
ok 3 things its beautiful there, second your crazyyyyyy, 3rd does that engine ever have problems, issues or anything after the abuse you give it.
I wonder if my grandmas Kia can do that trail. It sure can! But you can’t do the 4s 5s an 6s I do in my wrangler
Haha!
I have done trail 6 with my Subi. I know there are a lot of haters out there, but I'm not looking to do stuff like rock crawling, or mud bogging. I got this for an adventure rig, and it fits my lifestyle perfectly. I'm glad your happy with your Wrangler though.
