The youth, the energy, the showmanship, the talent. I was 22 when I watched this show and this was the year I fell in love with this band. Best performance of Oaf ever. Just so awesome. Thanks Buk for this ride in a time machine. Still in love with this band and have had the pleasure of watching them grow and make a lifetime of the best music on planet earth.

God damnit their sound was so huge with Daves double strings and Forrest The Oaf behind those Ludwigs. That first album and lineup were magic and remain one of the heaviest bands in history in my opinion.
Nah he was better then. The sound Forrest and Ian made was magically heavy like only Zeppelin and Soundgarden achieved prior imo. Pity they’re both too egotistical to put aside differences now that Brian’s gone.
You got that right there's absolutely something magical about this first two albums just the original lineup I always loved loved Forrest's drowning and Dave Henning was a beast on the bass. And you know you can really hear a difference in their sound since Brian passed But for the Sun was his last album and to me that's the last time that really sounded like Big Wreck a lot of this new stuff as good as it is I mean you can tell I their sound has changed without him because his guitar sound was a huge part of this band. Actually Forrest has a new band has called the Forrest Williams Democracy they just released their third single last Friday all three of them were on RUclips check them out they sound a lot like Big Wreck.
And you're right about the egotistical crap actually I talked to Forest occasionally and he said that Ian asked him to come back after the aAbatross album when they fired Brad Park and said that it was the same old crap I mean he said what they were offering him in pay to go out on the road with Ian again just wasn't worth it as much as he loved this band he just said he couldn't do it.
Ian is an absolute monster. Constantly evolving and Trying to grow as a musician. Always surrounded by serious players. Seeing every big wreck show in your town for the rest of your life is a great idea. You won't regret it.
Awesome. The 90's were awesome. I was born in 1977 & this was prime for me. I seen Big Wreck,The Tea Party,Sloan,Killjoys,13 Engines,I Mother Earth,Our Lady Peace all at one show at Western Fair Grounds in London,Ontario.
Yup. Ians lean, mean and dangerous and its the heaviest they ever sounded. I've always sorely missed Dave's double stringed bass and Forrests huge Ludwig sound. Now my favorite living rock drummer since Bonham is apparently a mailman. That first album and lineup was just fucking magic.
I'm sure you have heard their latest release 7.2! 7.3 is coming soon! ruclips.net/p/PLXv_ECFUO-1GmAYH6SQF_g2YnD3PNjped Live they are even better. 7 songs! ruclips.net/p/PLXv_ECFUO-1GN4C_9r2MBTU3KqI7KePOw Come visit… facebook.com/groups/BigWreck
funny how things change... he said he doesn't listen to rush but did a tribute song. Big Wreck .. the most amazing band with he incredibly talented Thornley !!!!!
@V Jacobs 1992 noble and Cooley maple solid 1 ply shell 14”x 7” . On the first-and second records also. Beautiful snares. Before everyone was making fucking snares!!!
was trying to figure out where in ottawa this was since the byward market has changed so much in 17 years. im thinking its next to the old shopify building at dalhousie/york?
Anymore than one second was too much for that interview at 1:26 Listening to her is like listening to the drill at the dentist. Makes me cringe. I’m surprised that the producers didn’t walk up and take the microphone away from her and have someone else take over the interview and quietly walk her away and take her outside the gig. Give her $100 and a token for the TTC and tell her to go home and you will call her tomorrow.

Thornley really matured as a musician since then. He was great then. Now he is incredible.

Starting my Canada day 2023 with this!!!
All Canadian All Day
God damnit their sound was so huge with Daves double strings and Forrest The Oaf behind those Ludwigs.

6:34 If I Had My Way Big Sugar Cover
7:38 How Would You Know
10:25 Prayer
14:55 Blown Wide Open
22:39 The Oaf
28:55 Fall Through The Cracks
few artists can be better 22 years later than they were when they broke into the scene. Thornley is one of those.
So true. He sings even better now. He’s a beast all around.
Nah he was better then. The sound Forrest and Ian made was magically heavy like only Zeppelin and Soundgarden achieved prior imo. Pity they’re both too egotistical to put aside differences now that Brian’s gone.

"PLAY THE DAMN SONG!"
If I had my way - Big Sugar Wreck
Ah, the days when MuchMusic was actually good. Good times.
I remember seeing this on tv and having my mind blown. Still holds up!

Betbuk....so many good BW vids and material shared over the years. Thanks bud.
An avid Canadian BW fan and an old friend sent me this vid with the permission to post it. Too good not to share! Thank you.
Luckily these guys are still at it, making music. Such a huge drum and guitar sound
What a cool video! Thanks for sharing. Young Thornley was a real stud. They have quickly become my favourite band. Hard to find a bad song by them.
I'm sure you have heard their latest release 7.2! 7.3 is coming soon!

This is amazing I was there. Just stumbled upon this video.
I can’t believe I’m just seeing this! I was there!
"Huh!?" haha, RIP Brian.
Man i miss these days of muchmusic
still the best line up, great video thanks
Damn, their drummer is so good. Sucks that he doesn't drum with them anymore. Long live Big Wreck! :D
Yeah I was noticing that too... I also LOL'ed at him drumming with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth
His sound....choice of drums, feel and groove defines the first two albums for me just as much as the voice & guitar.
How in the hell have I never seen this??
Best song I have ever heard, period
Very cool!
Did Ian just say he has never listened to RUSH??? How can I love him anymore????? :)
Ikr... that cost him a few fans
He had to be joking! 😆
Ian is such a babe!
Just bought albatross CD 💿 it’s great 👍
You have to get their new album But For The Sun if you haven't already..
6:38 ... Blowing my my mind!
was trying to figure out where in ottawa this was since the byward market has changed so much in 17 years. im thinking its next to the old shopify building at dalhousie/york?
Yes, this parking lot behind The Honest Lawyer; note the labour tower has been torn down and replaced in the last 6 years. goo.gl/maps/FkR68NA5yxH2
Dear Lord. Buk, where do you get these things from?! :P
Missy from over at the FB page.... she used to run the first BW fan website back in '98! Great gal!
Now thats a Snare Drum!
Forrest always had top shelf sounding drums!
How about the monster bass drum?
I think timing was the only reason they weren’t big commercially. They came around right as the backstreet boys craze began.
Back when you could actually go to the market
42 minutes later, Arthur.
Anyone know what song they playing at 7min? Havent heard that on any of their albums (or even Thornley albums)
Oh, ok, now he went into "How Would You Know?"... Is that an original composition then? or did they just go into HWYK?
