Here 10 years later and the look on Ian's face when he realises he landed it still makes me smile. Glad I got to see these guys live before Brian passed. Rest in peace, Brian.
just curious because i only know about this song from thornley, but is this also a big wreck song? and who was brian? this video is just killer and the band sounds so amazing!!
@jimbrown9477 well it was written when it was Ian's solo project, Thornley but yes his current band big wreck of course play some material from his solo records like this. Brian is the guy on the double neck and succumbed to cancer in 2019
Yasss, booouyyy(in a Canadian accent). I discovered what I believe to be the same as your opinion, about 14 years prior to you, but I toootallly agree with your opinion 💯 100% 😉😊😆 This is one of my most favorite live performances, ever out of all Big Wreck's, as well as Ian's solo live gigs If you haven't already, you should check out Ian, Big Wreck, live performances, at Suhr(guitar brand Ian loves to play) Factory Parties. They rock, too! Where are you from, btw? Anywhere, in Canada, that Ian & Big Wreck often frequent?
"Blown Wide Open", Altar Bar, also a favorite Big Wreck live performance of mine 😉😊 You, too 🙄 ? I am in IA, 50 y.o. , Big Wreck, Thornley, Ian Fletcher Thornley, fiend! Lol
Seen them twice in Charlotte amos's South end back when they first started can't remember the bands that they opened for but man that's who I remember they were freaking awesome live is the best for this band
I don't know if you noticed but this may have been the best live solo EVER! Best he's ever played and that's saying alot! I've watched dozens of BW stuff and you can tell by the bands reaction and his smile at the end that that solo FN killed!! I mean he left nothing to doubt, there's nothing left, he just gave us everything! If you play guitar and could "lift" 1 or 2 things from it, you'd be the best guitar player in your town.
I love the smile on his face after the solo. I agree this is one of the finest examples of Come Again. I So much wish they would do a "studio version" of "this version" ...at 10 minutes long!
I've watched this over 20 times.. everything I love in a band... saw them live three times. always amazing. You're an inspiration Ian. and such a cool guy. way to be humble and awesome. killing it!
I'm typically not one for long indulgent solos, but Ian knows how to keep them tasteful and maintain melody. Those last couple of bends he hits after kicking in another gain stage at 7:50, specifically that major 2nd vibrato into the final minor 3rd bend on the 24th fret at the very end, was fuckin' sick. You gotta have some strong fingers to bend that shit like that that far up the neck where the strings are very tight...especially after having just tired out your hand playing all of those triads. It just topped off a great solo that built up to that awesome crescendo.
what a way to end a show - i lose my mind and piss my pants every time i watch this. My girlfriend won't let me watch this stunning performance in freshly laundered trousers
This version of this song makes me smile for various reasons, but especially since nobody that originally recorded it is playing here. They're still playing the shit out of it and having a great time doin' it and keeping the original vibe/ tempo/ flavour intact.
Love how Chuck hits the ride by accident during his opening fill then him and Dave are both laughing about it for the whole intro. That's what I love about playing on stage. The fun nerdy moments you have with your bandmates make the coolest relationships
John Laco I think they’re laughing because they snuck the intro to that Phil Collins song in there too 😂 And I agree, I love seeing them have these little jokes and laughs on stage, nothing helps me get off on a performance more than watching the band getting off on it too.
This is light years better than the studio version and that Nickelbackish loudness compression. But here? Texture, dynamics, that bridge jam? So glad I got to see it live and have my mind changed.
seen them play in a lil bar in Charlotown P.E.I. about 10 years ago. best show ever. seen ac/dc and the stones with 200k other people...... big in that lil bar with 500 peeps out shines the other 2 by far!
great great band! great music/songs.Ian Thornley....possibly the most gifted man I've seen/heard in the rock music industry.I only heard of these guys a month or so ago...I know! Where have I been hiding?!
+Mike Martin The only other guy I seen live with this much talent is Jeff Martin. Watched him go through over 20 instruments himself that night, dude is off the charts good...him and Thornley together would probably melt our brains.
I've heard a lot of guitar solos in my time and this is easily one of the best. those sweeps... If i can get to be half the guitarist of Ian one day i'll be happy.
Man why don't they release a studio version of this, incredible! One hell of a solo to boot! Thanks a ton for capturing this on video for those of us unable to see these guys live! The sound is damn good as well, thank you thank you thank you!
The most underrated frontman/lead guitarist of all time. Seriously. This man can sing with the greatest of them and shred with the greatest of them as well. It's a crime hes/they're not selling out the o2 or the garden.
It's like almost musicianship isn't valued anymore....I mean, screw the mainstream but this is incredible. Catchy and so music. I love how we areni't governed by the radio.... great music has no fences. This solo is gospel. One of the greatest Canadian/bands of our time. An inspiration to those few left that dare to pick up an instrument. And I pray kids in their bedrooms dream to do. \_.
I was standing right behind you as you were filming this. THANK YOU SO MUCH for recording and posting this!!! I live in Atlanta and my wife and I drove 17 hours to see this AMAZING show!! This was a birthday surprise for me from my awesome wife (whom I've converted into a HUGE Big Wreck fan) and now thanks to you, I can always revisit it!! What an amazing show!!! The added bonus was of course meeting Ian and the guys afterwards.....did you also meet them?
Love them. I saw them in Seabright New Jersey at a club called Tradewinds in 1997 or 1998. There was maybe 150 people there. But those there were into it. I wish the local station down here, 105.5, would play them but they're too busy playing Shinedown and Halestorm every 5 minutes. If they'll play Theory Of a Deadman I don't get why they won't play Big Wreck. I've requested a lot and they ignore me. They DID play In Loving Memory in the 90's when it came out, nothing since.
Harry, did you ever come to Guelph Ontario to see Big Wreck play at an old Theater? I believe I may have meet you and your wife or significant other at that time
Remember talking with Brian and Ian at a club in 98 when their shitty, unknown, opening band called _Nickelback_ was playing their derivative shite. I asked Ian, "WHY are you guys on your with Jesus and his wannabe Bush wannabe Nirvana band? Same management?" He smiled and then chuckled. I took that as a yes. Needless to say, BW made us forget about Chad Kroaker and his band 1/2 way thru the first song. In the next 2 years we'd have more proof there was no justice in the universe and that the music buying public is overrun by mouth breathers as BW's 2nd album stiffed, they broke up and Nickelhack became massive.
That one is good too but a bit cold maybe because it's in the studio. This one from 2012 he really let's loose, face contortions, everything. Solo at 3:23 ruclips.net/video/OjpptWQSTh4/видео.htmlsi=G5YP-TA1BqaqGXq1
Geez, you have completely no idea who you are talking about, #1 - Kirk Hammett is totally in an upper league than this guy.... #2 - This guy is so full of himself, his bandmates are better by far, but he wont let them shine.
I think Mustaine would be a better comparison than Hammett. Lead guitarist that sings. Hammett pales in comparison. Good guitarist, no question though.
Rest in Peace Brian, we will always miss you
Had no idea 😢

Easily one of the most under rated guitarists ever.
i keep watching this fckn video
idky but ya.
mabe 60 times now.
love the sound !
Took me 51 years to find one of the best bands I've ever heard!
Yee bro🤣

@JohnReid Idk why they arent the biggest band in the world
Same here!
Seen them twice in Charlotte amos's South end back when they first started can't remember the bands that they opened for but man that's who I remember they were freaking awesome live is the best for this band
You know when Ian flicks out his ear monitor your in for a freakin crazy good solo!!!!!!!
I don't know if you noticed but this may have been the best live solo EVER! Best he's ever played and that's saying alot! they kinda do. from the dunlop sessions.
buddy this gave me pure chills.............
Holy shit!!! That solo.....Ian Thornley is amazing
Best guitar solo EVER! Just WOW!
How is this not at 1 Million views yet?? Seriously let's talk about it.
I've watched this over 20 times.. everything I love in a band... saw them live three times. always amazing. You're an inspiration Ian. and such a cool guy. way to be humble and awesome. killing it!
Seriously I don't even know what to say anymore about these guys/Ian ...just amazing 👏
that solo was indescribably f*cling amazing.
I'm typically not one for long indulgent solos, but Ian knows how to keep them tasteful and maintain melody. That Guitar Solo Though....
What a beautiful musician Ian is.... awesome guy too!! Class act!
WOW JUST WOW 😮😊❤
Incredible! Takes me back to 04
what a way to end a show - i lose my mind and piss my pants every time i watch this. My girlfriend won't let me watch this stunning performance in freshly laundered trousers
WOW I MEAN WOW
been loving BW since 2002! The Greatest Bands "nobody has ever heard of."
Charlotte, NC June 8, 2023 . . . . . It's been a while.
This version of this song makes me smile for various reasons, but especially since nobody that originally recorded it is playing here. They're still playing the shit out of it and having a great time doin' it and keeping the original vibe/ tempo/ flavour intact.

That jam in the middle was unreal!
There are no words.
This is light years better than the studio version and that Nickelbackish loudness compression. But here? Texture, dynamics, that bridge jam? So glad I got to see it live and have my mind changed.
RIP brother ! You are truly missed!
I am now convinced that Mr. Thornley is superhuman!
Absolutely unbelievable, I wish to God I could've seen this. Thanks so much for the video!
A well oiled, powerful machine, that's the best way to describe Big Wreck @ this juncture.
seen them play in a lil bar in Charlotown P.E.I. about 10 years ago. best show ever. seen ac/dc and the stones with 200k other people...... big in that lil bar with 500 peeps out shines the other 2 by far!
Wow...I cannot wait to see Big Wreck again!
Man this comment resonates with me so much given this effing pandemic madness... cannot wait!!!

holy freq
this just fits my brain

This song is on the first Thornley album.
I concur; thank you very much man! 👍🏻
i really want to up vote this about 1,000 times...
Ian's guitar solo is right up there with Terry Kath's 25 or 6 to 4 at Tanglewood. Pure passion and other-worldly.
YOUR'E A FREAK THORNLEY! In the best possible way!
The most underrated frontman/lead guitarist of all time. Seriously. This man can sing with the greatest of them and shred with the greatest of them as well. It's a crime hes/they're not selling out the o2 or the garden.
So effing beautiful ❤️
What a shame this Band didn't get more airplay, they rock,
Yeah took me a while too. When I was 15, it was BTO. So yeah finally.
Legend!
awhmahgawd freakin awesome... Ian just magical genious on them scales boy
Unbelievable… so fuckin good!

Jason Wilson Man it warms my heart that Americans can appreciate this(my favorite) band. Not too many Canadian bands do very well down there. V
Love them. I saw them in Seabright New Jersey at a club called Tradewinds in 1997 or 1998. There was maybe 150 people there. But those there were into it. @@sanchezzz1 they are easily one of the greatest bands of all time and I wish they'd come to South Texas
They’re going on tour in September! RIP Brian.
HOT DAMN!!! I love this video!!!
Big congrats on the production of this video. Best "Come Again" I've seen and 9:41 minutes! I think Ian hit never never land during his solo.
Great guitar player
Brilliant! Evocative of Mark Knopfler.
I was so lucky to see them at the note the week before! If they are within 500 miles of me I will go!
Un de mes meilleures show que vu tout d'un band à voir live....
That jam/solo part sounds so buckethead!
So fucking good
I will come again
Ian Thornley can shred his ass off.
Pittsburgh Pa @ The Altar Bar 2013
Thank you, from the heart of my soul, for this vid'!!!!!!!
Valerie K. The heart of ur soul..? 😆

they fucking nail this song, saw them live in London this year, fuck me
Please, for the love of god, come to the US with a tour!
The drummer looks like Lalo Salamanca from Better Call Saul.
Still looking for the Fuckin Love This multiplier button.
Ian is God!
I liked my own post because Ian is so damn bad ass.
We're not worthy
Playin' that Petrucci model!!
Jesus Herbert Christ… that was more legendary than The Ashbringer.
HOLY hell this band and Ian should be blowing up the fucking world!
YES ! I agree 100% ! they are amazing
WOW ! my guitar hero, 2nd only to David Gilmour :)
Perfection!! 🎸🎙🎶 F**k Elvis - Thornley is King! 👑
Harry, did you ever come to Guelph Ontario to see Big Wreck play at an old Theater? I believe I may have meet you and your wife or significant other at that time
dude doesn't need the other 2 guitarists lol! sick!
Is it me or does the first 1:50 of this song sound similar to U2's Sunday Bloody Sunday.
Indeed.
