I just realised I never actually commented on this! It's an honour to be mentioned as having made one of your favourite videos, especially as a book review. I don't have a lot of confidence with reviewing as I don't think I'm a hyped critical reader, but I had a lot of fun making the Musketeers video and I guess there's no reason why reviews can't be super fun! You've inspired me to make more reviews this year. Hopefully fun, quirky ones with some interesting history thrown in... and maybe more skits...

I am honored to be mentioned as part of this curation of Booktube Bliss.
    Thank you so very much.
I was watching Booktube for years before I started actually making videos, and so now, to be a part of this community has been a wonderful experience.
May we have fun prancing and singing in the future :)

Ah, thank you for the mention! I'm still holding the rest of those daddy letters to read for a rainy day. ;) Wonderful mention of booktubers both big and small. Especially glad to see Laura Frey on this list. She is incredible!
Been a joy getting to know you better through booktube this year and look forward to seeing where your channel goes in the New Year!

This is great! What a lovely idea for a video. I've found a couple of new people here, and thanks for mentioning me - I'm glad we could bond over our differing George Eliot opinions :P

Great video. Happy to see Steve's Western Canon and Eric's Awkward Encounters on here. I enjoyed a lot of these and I am going to watch the others I missed.

This was a fun video! You listed a lot of my favs already - I love the literary intelligence-ness of Neil and Kate, the chatty openness of Mercedes and Jen, and YOU! Some other favs for me this year were Helene Jeppesen reading vlogs (so cozy!) and Ariel Bisset (especially her video of people reading on the tube, but that may have been last year).

One of my favourite book tube videos of this year is this one. You have collated a wonderful selection of book tubers and they are all worth watching with a another well crtiqued analysis. However do not forget the presenter of this video who is also up there with those you have mentioned. Here is to your next appearance.

I loved so many of these videos, too! Thanks for reminding me of some of the greats, and bringing a couple new videos to light. You are definitely one of the channels that makes my brain smarter and my days brighter. Keep doing you! :D

i love this idea for a video and some great choices! my favourite booktube video this year was one by The Bighaired bookworm, where she talks about book rating and why she does't use star ratings.

Great idea for a video! This may be one of my favorite videos of the year due to its introducing me to a lot of great new channels, as well as agreeing on so many of the videos you mentioned as great ones I watched.

This is such a great video! I’ve seen some of these but many I haven’t and many are new to me channels. I LOVED Erik’s video about awkward author encounters, I laughed so hard.

I've seen a few of the videos you mentioned and they are fantastic. And now I have so many new videos to look forward to with the rest of your list. And a couple of Booktubers I hadn't discovered yet in my still brief time in this realm. I laughed when I saw the title for this video as I had already started compiling a list of my Top 5 Favorite Booktube Videos for 2017 (since I've only been on Booktube for just shy of 3 months I figured 5 was a solid start). Spoiler: the first video I had put on my list is your Lincoln In The Bardo review.

We watch a lot of similar booktube, Jen ^^
That was a great video, thank you for spreading love for so many wonderful channels.
Adam never disappoints and once upon a time when I had a bad day I rewatched the letter video. Let's just say that word daddy has a slightly creepy undertone from now on xD
As a person who discovered booktube through the YA crowd, I got to tell you that her videos can be scary accurate.

It's so funny, because I really had no idea YA Booktube existed until months after I discovered the community! I found Booktube through Jen Campbell and MercysBookishMusings and then was like, why does everybody keep talking about these big YA booktubers like they're celebrities? Who are these people?

    • @gemma2275
      @gemma2275 6 лет назад

After finding the corner of booktube that suits me better it was interesting to notice how "the small" booktube and "the big booktube" almost seem like parallel universes with very little overlap. There appears to be a dissonance between the creator and the viewer with the apparent shift of connection from comment sections to Twitter. At times slightly weird - youtube allows you to write however long comments you want to (you've experienced that first hand with some of mine ^^) which is perfect for making points and sparking conversations, Twitter's word count just limits that aspect and turns communication to an exchange of statements on literature and books.
The other difference with connecting is that with channels I like most you get that personal touch let's call it that ^^ With people writing comments directly to the booktuber. With some bigger channels, there is a significant shift towards talking about the person making the video, not to them. Commenters are left to strike conversations between each other, reminiscing of the big channels on youtube where the community aspect isn't really a goal.
I don't think it's only due to numbers, though. You mentioned Francina who has a big following within YA community and still manages to diminish that alienation from a creator factor with the way she interacts with viewers.
Very much on the subject: I love your hair in this video. You look so nice

Great list. I'd watched most of these before (although I think I'm going to go and rewatch a few now) but Laura Frey was completely new to me, so I'm looking forward to watching those two videos and checking out more from her channel. Thanks for compiling this!

What a wonderful video idea 😊 I might have to do something similar. I haven't watched most of these videos, so I'll definitely be coming back for some video recommendations. I do agree with what you said about Francina Simone and mementomori's parody of reading vlogs.

I love a lot of the aforementioned book tubers and your channel especially! Alongside Kamil (WhatKamilReads), Britta Boehler, Melanie (Mel's Bookland Adventures), Victoria (Eve's Alexandria) one book tuber I really love mainly because all of her non fiction readings is Heidi (My Reading Life)...I wish she had more subscribers!!!

What are your fav booktube videos of all time?
Sadly some of mine have disappeared from utube.
We're near '18 now, hardly more 'n 2 years to 2020. Wonder what'll be considered the best booky vids 2010-19? Yes, some of 'em haven't even been made yet. :-)
As for booktuber awards, they did those at the end of '12, but not since. There's a lot more content creators to keep track of compared to the early days.

    • @InsertLiteraryPunHere

Not sure about my favorite of all-time - I've only been watching for about two years, and like you said, there are so many content creators to keep track of

  • @KevTheImpaler

I watched Katie's video on George Eliot. I thought about you because Mill on the Floss is your favourite book (isn't it?) and she particularly didn't like it because of the ending, which I have heard other people complain about. I was also a bit surprised Katie not liking her, because although her style is sometimes hard, she liked The Egoist by George Meredith, and his style is at least as hard.

    • @InsertLiteraryPunHere
      @InsertLiteraryPunHere  6 лет назад

I'm not a fan of the ending of The Mill on the Floss, either, but I loved the rest so much that I didn't care at all! And I think a big thing with Katie is that she doesn't find Eliot very entertaining - Meredith might have some equally hard passages, but I'm guessing she still finds his writing more fun

    Great video!
Another valereads video that made me cackle was the one in which she mocks booktubers mispronouncing book titles and authors. Love her dry humor! ruclips.net/video/SKj5EKK1w7c/видео.html
