South Africa has had immigration for hundreds of years and no one complained, but these immigrants are terrorising South Africa and people are speaking out. As a Nigerian, I remember in my university days we had many South African nationals in my university who had run away from apartheid and were given scholarships and free housing by the government of Nigeria. I'm Mozambican and my mom used to work in South Africa but Xenophibia made her stop. The problem with South Africans is that they complain about lack of jobs and opportunities but they don't want to take the simple jobs (not all of them), my mom was a maid and her friend is the one that got her a job because another lady from the neiborhood wanted a Mozambican lady to work there. Most rich families will hire Machanga (Mozambican) because they don't complain, they work or some do businesses. If the foreigners do business, you do too, here in Mozambique we suffer but the ladies will go to the market and sell things, they will open small businesses because unfortunately our governments are corrupt.

African unity, meaning that individual countries are subsumed into a pan African super-state, doesn't seem realistic, or necessarily desirable. African countries realising that they can achieve more collectively, by cooperating for their mutual benefit, in defiance of external parties who profit from their division, is a different matter. I sometimes wonder how African people I meet, in the UK, regard each other. Is it realistic to expect a person in Namibia to feel a sense of kinship with a person in Ethiopia or Tunisia? Perhaps not. Can governments trade and cooperate in a way which facilities development of the continent, for it's people? I hope so.

Pan-Africanism is an example of the Texas Sharpshooter Fallacy. It is cognitive bias where differences are ignored but similraties are overemphasised; just because someone has melanin in their skin it doesn’t mean that they are your ally & wish you well. Focus on content of character rather than colour of skin and foreigners do not have good characters; and, South Africans see this and do not stand for it. Not all skin folk are kinfolk. There's no violent targeting of migrants here; it's the migrant violently targeting South Africans.

So you're saying lack of education is the problem? If the South African people were all educated, millions of illegal migrants pouring into South Africa selling drugs and not paying rent or taxes wouldn't be a problem then? That's rather strange logic. How about this: Don't let migrants into your country who aren't educated and skilled and don't let people in who are criminals and/or deport those who engage in criminality. Problem solved. Look at countries like Denmark, Finland, Norway, Bulgaria, Hungary. They don't have problems with millions of illegal migrants pouring in from the human trafficking gangs, because they take a no-nonsense hard line stance on immigration with fixed quotas on the amount of genuine refugee asylum seekers they can take in each year which doesn't harm their economy or the standard of living for their own citizens. Until you can help your own people and have a functional prosperous country, you cannot be charitable to half the third world. Charity begins at home.

Three Malawians, broke in our home, gun point my husband, myself,my daughter who is 23 and my little son who was 2 by then.[ I struggled to conceive due to incompitent cervix that caused 6 miscarriages]. Hence the huge gap between my kids. We were traumatized, we thought its our last breath. This people took all our valuable things, at gun point including my son birth certificate 😢. And they kept looking at my daughter with lust eyes. My husband, my daughter and I ,were praying calling on the name of Jesus, they left. I was scared that they would rape my daughter, coz it's what usually happens when they find woman. This past September, they tried to brake in again and we called security. It's no longer safe no matter where u live, especially in suburbs on stand alone houses. It's better for a person to live in a estate or where there is security with a boom gate and long walls. If u're middle class u don't feel safe anymore.
Still I believe it's our government leaders and officials to blame. They're corrupt, they loot money, get bribes , leave our nation struggling . Poor people fights poor people. This people who are foreigners are poor, South Africans who fights foreigners are poor. Problems starts where these foreigners are running from their country, for better living, to find that also South African poor people have problems as well , living in poor conditions, with hunger and no jobs. Unfortunately u can't tell a person who is poor, and hungry or jobless anything that makes sense.

They derogatorily refer to fellow Africans as 'cockroaches,' a chilling echo of the Rwandan genocide. What's even more disheartening is the involvement of government officials and politicians who financially support these unemployed individuals (dudula) for their political gains. With less than a year remaining until the elections, it's alarming to note that South Africa's current Home Affairs Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi, has a well-documented history of hostility towards African migrants. During his tenure as Health Minister, he issued orders for public hospitals to deny medical care to sick migrants, resulting in a horrifying incident where a woman from the DRC had to give birth on the streets. Such ministers who promote hatred are gaining considerable attention, exemplified by a representative of the health from the province of Limpopo humiliating a sick patient in a hospital bed, further exacerbating the troubling situation.

I can't even imagine what harnessing that energy especially in young and unemployed youth can become! Because I saw what it did in Rwanda! Whats more shocking is the mothers behind the movement sometimes leading it by themselves ( the 3 'Mamas' that attacked the nigerian migrant fellow selling on the street) and Even more alarming backed by Gov. Agents.
It can't imagine what this whole energy can become if they don't watch out! A genocide or a Mass Civil revolt that is in the very near future if they continue as this rate!
And to think that this is a place with the history it has with Apartheid is just sad!
1 out 3 unemployed adult is alarming and really the route of all problems. Rwanda had a massive recession and high unemployment in the early 1990s to 1994, with so many people unemployed including youth it was easy to harness that much energy through hatred especially when you give them a purpose and a bit of money and then blame their struggles on somebody else and say " those people doing well are doing so because of XYZ.....that should have been You! Let's take it back!"
It's really sad to see but I'm pretty sure there is a bigger picture and someone playing chess on our continent! Sadly it just takes money to start all these revolts! Hungry and angry population will follow!
Africa as a whole might be experiencing another change in the tide. All over Africa we started fighting eachother like the 1980-90s. Mali, Niger, Gabon, Nigeria, DRC etc. The western is definitely coming back for our resources this time fighting the clock with Russia and China.

    Last take on this:
In all of these, where is the South African government?
Where is your SA immigration agency?
    Where is your police?
Where is your drug enforcement agency?
And where is accountability and taking responsibility for your own failings?
Why is South Africa so attractive to criminal elements from all over the world?
Could that be because many South Africans are criminals themselves and provide an enabling environment for crime?
Could the failings of your government agencies be a sign of a deep-rooted societal flaw?
I’m all for foreigners leaving SA, but do you think Operation Dudula victimizing all migrants is the way to go?
Are foreigners responsible for the over 30% unemployment rate?
Are they responsible for your world-record crime stats especially for a country not currently in a war situation?
Are foreigners responsible for the rate of femicide in SA?
Are they responsible for your high GBV?
Are they responsible for the load shedding?
Are foreigners the reason the ANC is underperforming?
Are they responsible for the white-only Orania?
Are foreigners responsible for stealing a car every 40 seconds?
Are they the reason why a significant share of your country’s wealth is in the hands of the white minority?
Are foreigners the reason for the wanton recklessness and corruption in South Africa?
Are they the reason your military is underfunded and crumbling?
Are foreigners the reason for the high rape cases in South Africa?
Are foreigners responsible for the rot in your prison system?
Are foreigners responsible for your gun violence?
If they are, would you give them credit for the positives in South Africa too or foreigners are only cockroaches and vermin and nothing good can come from them?
You South Africans need to ask yourselves very serious questions.
Every country has challenges, but the way to deal with them is not to simply blame and victimize migrants.
If a migrant/foreigner commits a crime, bring them to book in line with the law.
I bet Operation Dudula can mobilize and work with the police to bring confirmed drug peddlers and criminals to book? Why not focus on that?
Why not protest against and picket every government agency that is refusing to do its job?
    May God help Africans.
And to you the foreigners in South Africa, please go home. Leave SA.
I know many of you are there out of desperation, but do all you can to leave. Protect your dignity.
You are not in any way inferior to South Africans much less the Black ones who took control of a country in 1994 and have done a fantastic job of running it down and blaming it on foreigners.
Lastly, to the criminal foreigners in South Africa, you’re part of the problem and you deserve to rot in jail.

As a South African observer, it's crucial to address the prevalent global issue of xenophobia. This challenge transcends borders, impacting lives in various ways. However, the portrayal of the challenges faced by black South Africans in media narratives often remains misrepresented or downplayed.
The complexity of this situation deepens with illegal immigration, leading to forced assimilation, disrupting local businesses, and straining the social security system. The historical marginalisation of black South Africans intensifies due to the ongoing influx post-1994.
It is essential to uphold the rule of law and curb the tolerance of illegal immigration by State institutions. Strengthening these institutions becomes paramount to prevent mob justice and ensure public safety for all individuals. Proposing structured refugee camps for refugees, asylum seekers, and illegal immigrants awaiting deportation, instead of immediate community assimilation, could mitigate potential violence and secure the lives of all, irrespective of nationality.
It is also disingenuous to shame South Africans for wanting to live in their sovereign nation where their rules-based order is respected by all, whether from South Africa or outside South Africa. Equally disingenuous is to shame them for not supporting illegal immigration by using terms like 'xenophobic' or 'unafrican' arbitrarily so, or by virtue signalling that Africa should unify as one big nation. While we can unite under one continent in our vast diversities and identities, forcing a singular unified entity risks destruction without acknowledging the value of our sovereign nations.

It's essential to approach the topic of illegal immigration, crime, and their impact on South Africa with a nuanced and empathetic perspective. Stereotyping and making uninformed conclusions can hinder progress in addressing these challenges. Engaging in open and respectful dialogue, considering the broader socioeconomic context, and advocating for effective policies are steps toward finding solutions to these complex issues.
Lack of FIRST-HAND experience: Many people form their opinions based on their own experiences and what they hear in the media. If they have not lived in or spent significant time in areas affected by these issues, they may not fully understand the situation on the ground.
Media portrayal: The media plays a significant role in shaping public perception. Depending on how the issue is covered, it can either highlight the challenges faced by South African citizens or focus on the difficulties faced by immigrants. Biased or one-sided reporting can contribute to misunderstandings.
Lack of information: People may not have access to accurate and comprehensive information about immigration, its causes, and its consequences. This can result in misconceptions and oversimplified views.
Economic and social factors: People's views on immigration are often influenced by their economic and social situations and where they live. Those who feel economically disadvantaged may be more inclined to view immigrants as competition for resources and jobs, while others may have a more empathetic perspective.

Zama Zamas who are terrorising our neighbourhoods when they have turf wars with each other and residents are killed in their cross fire. Women who are raped in their own homes by these people. Nigerians selling drugs to school children, kidnapping young girls off the street, drugging them and selling them into prostitution. Mozambicans, Indians, Bangladeshi's Pakistanis, Somalia's and Ethiopians kidnapping people for ransom and supporting terrorists organisations. we are grey listed because of them. Zimbabweans that are involved in Cash in Transit heists, smuggling explosive into South Africa to blow up our ATMS. 16 South Africans got massacred in a tavern in a case of mistaken identity, because of a turf war between Zimbabweans/Mozambicans and Lesotho nationals. South Africans should be fighting the colonialism of their resources not the fellow poor Africans. They should be fighting the multi international companies and the governments benefiting from their pain, not their poor neighbors, brothers and sisters. In Kenya, we have been fighting for our land that was grabbed since colonial period. Somehow the politicians convinced us that our enemies are our neighboring brothers and sisters. And Kenyans took up machetes and killed each other. Years later, the land is still in the hands of the few elites that are colonial gate keepers. And the British still reap so much from the land they stole from us. South Africans, stop fighting the wrong people, go after the real source of your misery.

@@aarontitan8393 I read you and thanks for painting a closer picture in your comment. I totally support the struggle of South Africans because as a Kenyan, you are my brothers and sisters and I think you should not be disrespected in your own house (land)
On the other hand, in Kenya we have a Swahili saying that says "mgeni njoo mwenyeji apone" (the visitor is welcome so that the local can relax/luxuriate). We have areas in Nairobi called small Mogadishu because Somalis have made it their home, and now Nigerians are more than welcome to make parts of Thikaroad a small Lagos. Isn't it strikingly intriguing that the same foreigners that are causing havoc in South Africa are contributing to the economy in Kenya? Think about it, the difference is not the people, the enemy is not the people but the system. That's why I wish this people power and anger in South Africa is directed to fixing the apartheid systems and ghosts that still disadvantage South Africans in their own land. What did the Germans gain by killing the Jews in the Holacost? What problem did the Ugandans solve by evicting all Indians? What did the Hutus gain by killing all the Tutsis? The problem is never the people, it is always the system of oppression that favors some over others. Also some evil power hungry individuals fuel and use the anger of the masses to get into power. We will see you back in the streets in future once you put the operation Dudula in power. Learn from your past and from the rest of us. In Kenya, we didn't solve any problem by electing Ruto "the hustler" "one of us". In any case we have more problems as a result. The solution to human problems are in fixing the erroneous systems we set up not in fighting each other.
