I really love this fight. Not only is 2:10 an intense transition, but Nidhogg's repeated use of Akh Morn to buster the group over and over again really conveys the raw anger that he represents.
Something I thought was really neat, Akh Morn has really only been seen twice ( excluding a summoner's death flare ). Both times it was used by dragons that were consumed almost entirely by rage or revenge.
That being said (curse your mobile for not having an edit option), this is an easy fight since it's basically AoE dodging. People make it hard because they suck at dodging AoE or fail the DPS check when you go into the second phase
This whole sequence was incredible. From the opening cutscene, to the after scene, Square-Enix really stepped up their game with this one. Heck, the whole chapter was incredible!
I swear the goosebumps where real when the Ahk Morn starts landing and everyone just stands together against it as the song goes up in glory as you face him...
Just imagine what music they'll do for the next expansion! It's weird to think that a year or so from now I'll have completely different music stuck in my head.
Even better when you're wearing full Dragonslayer's-gear. :D ...And even better when you're the only Dragoon in you party. .....And land the killing blow with Dragonsong Dive. .......While equipped with the title "Azure Dragoon". Just sayin', yesterday was a good day for me.
When the dragoon in my party used the LB I was grinning for them! I can't even imagine how satisfying is to use Dragonsong Dive on Nidhogg, it's so fitting.
i ran Final Steps 100 times as a tank to farm the "first time bonus" out of 94/100 runs, a drg was the first to die. The remaining 6 there simply were no drg's in the party comp. drglol.
+pyroromancer In all my runs it was always a fucking blackmage cause they gained a logic that they had their lines down so no dodging for them even if it's a oneshot.
but ley lines is their home! if a dragon threatens your home, you stand and defend it! Lest Estinien burninate it along with all the small plot cottages.
What the Dragoon? I can tell you a year after this post. That I encountered a player who was playing a level 60 lancer instead of a Dragoon. It caused the Paladin to flip out so much the whiner bailed after the first pull and 5 minutes later the Lancer left...stuck for ten minutes to rebuild the group and well we did and moved on. Completed the dungeon.
@@Qardo Sounds like someone doesn't go outside very much. Yes it's stupid to play a level 60 lancer, but I have met a level 70 pugilist..and we completed alexander just fine. Especially in this time and age where Shire Gear is very strong for normal content. The Paladin has a valid point but being a whiny little bitch makes you lose credibility. I don't like whiny bitches. Tank the god damn thing and quiet down child. It's a video game.

Ultima was kind of a forgettable final boss, Thordan was pretty cool, but this? Holy SHIT. The context of the situation alone is badass enough, seeing your character march towards Nidhogg and then watching him from across the bridge with Dragonsong playing while you prepare to battle. Then the fight happens, and my god was it amazing.
Please dont nerf this fight please Square Enix. This >> My new favorite trial, the Ex version being not too different already shows how badass this fight normally is. Dragonsong is still ringing in my head all this time
+Orochimaru sama King Thordans Reign deefenitely is the trickiest but I'd say Sephirot Ex is easier to cause a wipe on. NidEx is really only memorizing a very set Pattern.
I respect your opinion but i can't agree with you. Thordan I found rather demanding than those two but Nihogg was stressfull. Maybe because my Main is a BLM and I first had to find my perfect spot to cast. I had to do it a few times before making decent damage and as a DPS class it isn't just my Job to survive (which wasn't the Problem) but to burn something down ;) I guess it depends a bit on your Job.

I love seeing other peoples huds. Makes me wonder how their mind works. Like mines fairly simple. I have my combos arranged in certain orders. Like 123, 1ctrl2ctrl3 etc. Looks almost like you have 2 hotbars set up for recast timer reminders or something in the top left.
Another Dee woo. Yeah mine's actually far messier than I'd like it to be, but then it works just fine. So long as I keep all the stuff out the centre of the screen I'm happy. And yeah, the extra hotbars up the top are mostly for Machinist so I can see procs/CDs easier, otherwise I spend my time watching my hotbar rather than the fight.
I've been got by early dungeon bosses because I was just looking at my hotbar. I just recently leveled my Machinist to 50 after experiencing the queues like holy shit. Glad I main tank and healer. I also like making hotbar pop-up menus. For example I have a hotbar that appears, allows me to select a job I want and then it disappears after a short time. I like to streamline stuff.
I recall that this fight was my greatest experience, not just because of the music or the boss... but because I went in with a full squad of my FC members. This, other than a certain raid, was my biggest FC battle. So on that note, remember the FC called Clan Miri, we are everywhere. Not just in this game.

Eventually my Astrologian is going to attune to the Pole Star, an act that no one's survived, I just know it. Eventually, maybe when it's time to lay Zodiark low, Dragoons will be ready to embrace the dragon.
God- I remember when half the party wiped because we forgot to stack, and then this (3:52) started playing at precisely the right time. As though things were going smoothly until the tables were suddenly turned against us. This continued to play just as I (DRK), a Dragoon and a Scholar were struggling to survive.

Hey Mekkah, do you know the name of the music that plays at certain odd points. It plays when you head north out of the ceruleum processing plant, plays at the end of the alexander midas cs where the goblins are in the control room pressing buttons... plays when you travel pass the slyph camp into the deeper forest just across the bridge.. Plays in a cs when Azys La comes out of the clouds when the Pope summons the city with the key towards the end of heavensward. Just a bunch of different places.. I cant find it. Do you know of it?

Ironic to what you said in the description, I actually like it without the Dragonsong part. idk why but the weight of the situation definitely doesn't need some solo, worlds-smallest-violin type stuff. The best part of the whole fight is when the third phase music kicks on and he slams into the arena, makes you realize just who were messing with lol

Yeah, even the fact that the music stayed playing from cutscene, into the area and then into the instance. Thought that was awesome.
Everything is fuckin great....up until the boringbreaking Isle hard mode.

Official names are "Freefall" for Estinihogg and "Revenge of the Horde" for Nidhogg (on fire mode).
Man, that last Akh Morn at about 3% really looked like a desperate attempt to kill the WoL here. Made the attack that much more epic.
That final phase theme song still gives me goosebumps after all these years and expansions.

I've set my controls up to a grand organ so when I play dragoon I'm playing an organ version of Hit Me Baby One More Time as I stand in an aoe

The dragon hybrid needs to be a skill unlocked by Dragoons one day. Nael did it, Estinien's done it, it needs to be our turn to sprout wings!

I actually recommend playing the song Shadowlord from the Nier soundtrack while listening to this. Makes it an unreal experience
Soloing this fight as an overlevelled DRG makes more sense as you're granted hraesvlgr eye thus supposedly make you overpowered dragon slayer.

This fight is LEAGUES harder than Thordan. I could only wish our first bout with the Knights of the Round was this intense.

Being the True Final boss of Heavensward Arc I would be disappointed if it wasn't a bit difficult.
Yes normal mode is harder than Thordan normal definitely.
But the EX version is hella easy compared to even Sephirot EX
Ive not done Nidhogg Ex yet but no fight will be harder than Thordan EX according to the Devs when 4.0 comes out they will probably make a harder fight than thordan ex if they increase the level cap and give unsync to heavensward content.

Hey Mekkah, do you know the name of the music that plays at certain odd points. It plays when you head north out of the ceruleum processing plant, plays at the end of the alexander midas cs where the goblins are in the control room pressing buttons... plays when you travel pass the slyph camp into the deeper forest just across the bridge.. Plays in a cs when Azys La comes out of the clouds when the Pope summons the city with the key towards the end of heavensward. Just a bunch of different places.. I cant find it. Do you know of it?

Seemed to me that Niddy and Thordy were the only two bosses in the fucking game to take you seriously enough to seriously try to wipe you out.

Ironic to what you said in the description, I actually like it without the Dragonsong part. idk why but the weight of the situation definitely doesn't need some solo, worlds-smallest-violin type stuff. The best part of the whole fight is when the third phase music kicks on and he slams into the arena, makes you realize just who were messing with lol
